Another great chance for Bale. He jinks past several defenders before letting fly on the edge of the area. Krul dives full stretch to his left and palms his effort around the post.
90' +6
Shola Ameobi gets yellow.
Great chance for Bale's hat-trick. The ball finds it's way to the Welshman in the area and his shot is blocked by Krul, before he smashes the follow-up over the bar.
90' +5
Spurs almost claim a third, but Jake Livermore can't find the right finish to round off the scoring today.
90' +3
J. Livermore enters the game and replaces M. Dembélé.
Almost an equaliser for the visitors. Cabaye plays a ball forward but it is over hit and not particularly accurate until it takes a defection off Assou-Ekotto which sends it straight into the path of Ameobi, but Lloris comes flying out of goal to smother the striker's shot and send the ball behind for a corner.
90' +2
Dembele is giving a hearty handhake from Cabaye, and an apology for that earlier tackle. But that won't make up for the Belgium midfielder having to go off injured.
90'
Y. Cabaye gets yellow.
There will be seven minutes of added time at White Hart Lane, mainly due to the injury to Yoan Gouffran earlier in the half.
88'
I spoke earlier of the need for Moussa Dembele to improve in the second, and he certainly has done that. A strong force in midfield, he has negated the threat of Moussa Sissoko and allowed very little to get past him. Cabaye has just lunged in late, and the Belgian looks in some pain.
86'
Shola Ameobi enters the game and replaces J. Gutiérrez.
Bale is inches away from a hat-trick! A long ball is played up from the back and Bale, cutting in from the right, takes it in his stride and drives across the pitch before belting a shot at goal from the edge of the area which is palmed over by Krul. Good save, and great play from Bale.
85'
They shouldn't be to dispirited though, Newcastle have played well, and before Gouffran left the field with that suspected broken leg, they looked very dangerous on the counter with their pace and quality.
84'
Newcastle, understandably, look a little flat after conceding that goal. Taylor and Coloccini have been rocks at the back all day, but the sheer pace of Bale (along with the introduction of Adebayor) may well cost them all three points.
Minute
Description
82'
C. Tioté enters the game and replaces J. Perch.
That Bale goal really was of the highest quality, to be able to move at that pace and produce such a calm and clinical finish shows the class of the man. His double may take Tottenham to third in the league tonight.
80'
That goal has sparked some life in to Tottenham, and they now look far more punchy in attack, with a series of corners causing Krul some trouble in the Newcastle goal.
78'
G. Bale has scored a goal for Tottenham Hotspur!
GOAL! Tottenham score - and it's that man Bale again! A long ball is aimed for Adebayor on halfway, he holds off Taylor and flicks the ball on but before it reaches Coloccini out of nowhere comes Gareth Bale, who storms towards goal at full pace before slotting past a helpless Krul. Great pace, great composure, great finish.
74'
B. Assou-Ekotto enters the game and replaces K. Naughton.
I just wonder whether Newcastle might pinch three points here. Tottenham are throwing everything at the visitors, but are not getting very far, while the Magpies are soaking up all the pressure, and seem perfectly happy to hit Spurs on the counter, and they may find some luck, with the hosts throwing more bodies forward.
73'
Having praised Scott Parker for his defensive work earlier, I have to report that his play when in an advanced position has not been up to scratch today. He tries another forward pass which is wide and over hit.
71'
Newcastle seem to have won a fair few corners and free kicks today, but they really haven't look like scoring from any of them. More often than not, Yohan Cabaye's delivery's have been very good, but no one has got anywhere near attacking them.
70'
Little surprised that it is Holtby and not Dempsey who has been replaced, however the most important thing is the introduction of Adebayor. He given that option of going in the air, over the top, or on the floor which should give Newcastle food for thought.
69'
E. Adebayor enters the game and replaces L. Holtby.
68'
Greg Stobart at White Hart Lane for Goal.com: "Emmanuel Adebayor is about to come on for Tottenham as the crowd here grow increasingly anxious with their side’s performance. There has been no improvement in the second-half and they don’t look like scoring a second goal against Newcastle’s stubborn defence."
67'
Gareth Bale is now suffering from an injury. He's down off the pitch, however, so the game can continue (although how Spurs will manage anything without him is open to extreme guessing).
65'
Spurs fans are just starting to get a little restless. Scott Parker plays a ball through to Dempsey that was almost impossible to control, and alas, the American is unable to do so, and the ball runs through to Tim Krul. They need a change in tempo here Tottenham.
63'
They never get a good cross into the area, however, and Newcastle are able to clear with relative ease, although Dempsey does well to win another corner on the other side.
62'
Lewis Holtby tries to inject some energy into Tottenham by winning a corner after good work down the left.
61'
Spurs are just struggling to get going here. Dempsey does well up front holding off several defenders, but when he lays the ball off the chance to build an attack is wasted as a Newcastle man wins a throw-in off Bale. All a bit sloppy from the home side.
60'
We're back underway after that extended delay due to Gouffran's injury.
59'
Greg Stobart at White Hart Lane for Goal.com: "A sad end to the afternoon for Newcastle goalscorer Yoan Gouffran. The suggestion from the medical staff here is that he has suffered a suspected broken leg in that rather innocuous challenge with Kyle Walker."
58'
S. Marveaux enters the game and replaces Y. Gouffran.
56'
Gouffran is now being secured onto the stretcher and is being taken from the field. All concerned will wish him a speedy recovery from what could be a nasty injury.
54'
A nasty gash to the shin, and the stretcher is out for Gouffran. Will Pardew stick or twist here? He could bring on another striker and go for the win, or shore up midfield in the hope of securing a point.
53'
Yoan Gouffran is down with a problem, it looks like he may be forced off with this knock.
51'
Greg Stobart at White Hart Lane for Goal.com: "Generous applause from the Tottenham fans as Emmanuel Adebayor warms up on the touchline. Spurs look like they are going to need him this afternoon."
49'
First chance of the half falls to Newcastle. A corner from Cabaye is cleared to the edge of the area where is finds Taylor, and the defender improvises as he spins and belts a shot towards goal. He gets a good, clean connection, however it straight down the throat of Lloris, and the Frenchman easily claims it.
48'
Well, so much for that exciting, high tempo. Tottenham look a little ponderous and predictable in attack, and are struggling to hold possession high up the pitch. Newcastle are happy to soak it up and then attack down the flanks on the counter.
46'
The second half has started in much the same way as the first did, with both sides prepared to attack each over at pace. The tempo dropped dramatically in the first half, will the same happen here?
45'
Newcastle kick-off, and the second period is underway.
44'
Greg Stobart at White Hart Lane for Goal.com: "The atmosphere has gone very flat here as Spurs struggle to create opportunities. The hosts are playing the ball too slowly and lack a focal point in attack. I don’t think Andre Villas-Boas will wait too long after the break to introduce Emmanuel Adebayor from the bench."
43'
Dembele springs into life, a little. He drives forward from the centre of midfield before the ball finds its way to Dempsey, who tamely shoots wide of the far post. The USA player has had a frown on his face all afternoon, and that effort did little to change that.
42'
Aaron Lennon has been a little quiet in this opening half, but he now wins a corner down the right after a good run at Davide Santon. The corner is not great, and Newcastle break in numbers, but a poor pass from Debauchy sees the move fall dead.
41'
It's a poor corner, nothing changes.
40'
We're five minutes from half-time. No side look particularly like scoring at the moment, but that could all change with this Tottenham corner...
38'
Andre Villas-Boas may well be tempted to bring on Emmanuel Adebayor at the break here. His side have lacked a spearhead to their attack so far, with midfielder Clint Dempsey doing a good job, but you feel a specialist in that role could offer more.
36'
Moussa Dembele has been a little sloppy in midfielder today. Perhaps he's missing his enforcer Sandro? In any case, he hasn't been the driving force of old in the centre of the park, and Spurs will need him to improve if they want to claim all three points today.
34'
Anything Spurs can do, Newcastle can do...well, at least as well. They now have an extended period of possession, and they win themselves a corner when the excellent Cabaye sees a shot at goal deflected behind.
32'
Tottenham are just enjoying some time on the ball here. They move the ball to one another quickly and with ease, but are unable to break through the strong-looking partnership of Coloccini and Taylor. Bale is having more luck down the left, though.
30'
The game just seems to have died down a little since Newcastle scored. That said, the pace beforehand was very quick, and could surely not be sustained for the whole half.
28'
Greg Stobart at White Hart Lane for Goal.com: "It needed a touch of luck with the deflection off Michael Dawson, but Newcastle’s equaliser rewards the attacking ambition they are shown so far here. Mousa Sissoko made an excellent run from midfield to set up that goal to continue is excellent start to life on the Toon. The away fans are now in fine voice in the Park Lane end to my right side."
26'
Tottenham fans will probably feel they deserve to be ahead, but Newcastle showed really clinical skill to work a goal out of that opportunity. They have been quick on the counter (as have Tottenham), and they merited that strike after Cisse went so close just a few minutes earlier.
24'
Y. Gouffran has scored a goal for Newcastle United! Assist by M. Sissoko.
GOAL! Newcastle are level. They've been quick on the counter, and that has paid off for them here. Moussa Sissoko has powered down the right and crossed into the area where his pass has been met just inside the area by Yoan Gouffran. He's taken a touch, readied himself, and powered a shot past Lloris with the aid of a healthy deflection off the back of Michael Dawson. Game on!
22'
Scott Parker has been at his stealthy best today: marshalling midfield in an unnoticed role. He has slotted into this team very well in the absence of Sandro.
21'
Greg Stobart is at White Hart Lane for Goal.com: "Newcastle have settled into the game now should have drawn level here with that chance for Papiss Cisse. Alan Pardew is certainly the louder of the two managers - we’re barely 20 yards away from the touchline in the press box and the Newcastle manager is going bonkers at his players, roaring instructions from the touchline."
20'
Another chance for Spurs. They speed forward down the right, before Lennon pulls the ball back for Holtby on the edge of the area, but his side-footed effort goes over the bar. He perhaps should have hit the target there - he was under minimal pressure.
19'
First real good chance for Newcastle. They build-up play from the back, with the ball eventually being crossed into the penalty area by Coloccini, his deep effort is met by the head of Cisse, but his diving header is wide of Hugo Lloris' back post.
17'
The ball really is travelling at some pace today, with both side's trying to move forward quickly, in an attempt to catch their opponents cold. Really good contest so far.
16'
Cabaye takes it, and finds Coloccini but he can't get enough power in his header.
15'
Newcastle win their first corner of the afternoon as Caulker holds off Gouffran and then flicks the ball behind.
13'
Steven Taylor concedes a foul on Moussa Dembele after rather jumping in with elbows flying. I suspect he just wanted to let the big Belgian know he was there.
11'
Tottenham's pace on the counterattack is already posing problems for Newcastle. The away side are trying to build attacks, but with Lennon and Bale such speed merchants, they always have to be wary of being exposed at the back.
10'
Greg Stobart is at White Hart Lane for Goal.com: "Well, he’s been in sparkling form recently and that is just the latest stunning goal from Gareth Bale for a Spurs side that have started very brightly here at White Hart Lane. Newcastle goalkeeper Tim Krul is still moaning to his bench about the wall for that 25-yard free-kick but the Dutchman appeared to leave far too much space for Bale to pick his spot."
9'
Lewis Holtby goes close for Tottenham now. The new signing from Schalke finds a bit of space on the corner of the penalty area and curls and effort towards goal with his left foot, however it's comfortably over Krul's crossbar.
7'
It is end-to-end stuff already at White Hart Lane. Newcastle attack well down the right, but a cross from Debauchy is too long for Papiss Cisse, and Tottenham break through the pace of Aaron Lennon, but the move breaks down as the visitors get defenders back.
5'
G. Bale has scored a goal for Tottenham Hotspur!
GOAL! And Gareth Bale punishes them from that free kick! It's a wonderful effort from the wideman, as he curls his effort from around 25 yards out over a static four-man wall into the corner of Tim Krul's net.
3'
More great stuff from Tottenham. They pass the ball well for an extended period, before the ball reaches Kyle Walker who has tucked in from right-back. His forward pass finds Dempsey, but he is cynically tackled by Coloccini who concedes a free kick.
1'
Great start from Spurs. Gareth Bale completes a one-two down the left and speeds past a helpless Gutierrez who cannot live with his pace. The Welshman then fizzes a cross into the six yard area, but Clint Dempsey fails to get a connection, and Steven Taylor clears.
Good afternoon and welcome to Goal.com's LIVE play-by-play coverage of Tottenham v Newcastle with me Rhys Turrell.
The team news is in ahead of this afternoon's clash at White Hart Lane, so here it is, starting with the home side.
Lewis Holtby is handed a full debut for Spurs after two previous substitute appearances at Norwich and West Brom. Steven Caulker and Kyle Naughton also return to the starting XI with Jan Vertonghen and Benoit Assou-Ekotto dropping to the bench. Emmanuel Adebayor is in the squad, but only a substitute after a late return from the African Cup of Nations.
Newcastle are unchanged after back-to-back wins over Aston Villa and Chelsea, although influential midfielder Cheick Tiote is named on the bench.
These two sides met on the opening day of the season, with Newcastle recording a 2-1 win at St. James' Park. The line-up's are vastly different now, however, with the French influence really taking a stranglehold over the Magpies' transfer policy in January. And yet despite all the mickey-taking headed their way, Newcastle will not care one jot, particularly when they appear to have uncovered a gem in Moussa Sissoko.
Tottenham have really kicked on since the opening day, and have established themselves as prime candidates to finish in the top-four, and maybe even third place. They start without a striker today - could their failure to land a frontman in January come back to haunt them?
We're five minutes away from kick-off at White Hart Lane, so it must be time for some predictions. I'm going to go with a reverse of the opening day score, and say Tottenham will take it 2-1. What do you think? Let me know via Twitter @rhysturrell.
Tottenham will kick-off and get this match underway...
And that's all for the half, and the two sides go in level. Tottenham started at great pace, and took the lead through a wonderful effort from Gareth Bale. Newcastle were able to withstand the pressure, however, and drew level through Yoan Gouffran's deflected effort. From then on the pace of the game slowed down, which has suited the away side far more than the hosts.
Bale remains Spurs' danger man, with his pace and power causing problems for Newcastle's backline. Moussa Sissoko is the main threat for the visitors, however they also have the class of Cabaye, and pace of Gouffran to call upon.
Tottenham look like they need a focal point of their attack, and Adebayor could provide that. How long will Andre Villas-Boas wait before giving calling on his Togolese striker?
And that is all, and Bale is denied a hat-trick. He won't be to disappointed though, as his double has lifted Tottenham up to third in the league.
Bale was Tottenham's star man today, and without him you have to wonder if they would have got anything out of the contest. Newcastle will certainly be cursing the presence of the Welshman, however they should not be to dispirited with their performance, as they more than matched one of the Premier League's better sides for large parts of the game.
The Magpies may have lost one of their Frenchmen to injury today, with goalscorer Yoan Gouffran suffering a suspected broken leg, but with Cabaye and Sissoko in their attack it won't be long until Alan Pardew's men return to winning ways.
That's all from the live play-by-play blog, head over to Goal.com's main site for all the coverage from today's big Premier League games, as the chasing pack look to catch-up with Tottenham. From me Rhys Turrell, until next time, goodbye.
