We're off at St. James' Park!
Good afternoon and welcome to Goal.com's live play-by-play of the crucial Premier League match between Newcastle and Fulham. My name is Dale Jones and I'll be taking you through today's game.
First of all, the two teams. Newcastle: Krul; Simpson, S.Taylor, Yanga-Mbiwa, Santon; Marveaux, Sissoko, Cabaye, Gutierrez; Gouffran, Cisse.
Subs: Elliot, Williamson, Anita, Bigirimana, Obertan, Campbell, Ameobi.
And the Fulham team is: Schwarzer; Riether, Senderos, Hangeland, Riise; Manolev, Enoh, Karagounis, Duff; Ruiz; Berbatov.
Subs: Etheridge, Hughes, Richardson, Frimpong, Emanuelson, Frei, Rodallega
Alan Pardew's men are in real danger of being swamped into the relegation battle, sitting only three points above the dropzone. Whilst Martin Jol's men are unbeaten in their last four and just one point away from the magical 40.
The corresponding fixture earlier in the season ended with Fulham the victors in a 2-1 win at Craven Cottage. However, none of the scorers that day are playing this afternoon. Only Hugo Rodallega has a place on the bench with Steve Sidwell suspended and Hatem Ben Arfa injured.
Goal.com's man at St. James' Park Andrew Kennedy sums up the first half action: "An enjoyable but goalless first-half of football at St. James' Park, with the hosts slightly edging it in terms of possession and chances. Papiss Cisse has failed to hit the target with a number of opportunities, but the intent is there, and Alan Pardew will be hopeful his side can take advantage in the second 45. However, the same clumsiness that has lead Newcastle to be just three points from the relegation zone has also reared its head, which will definitely give Fulham hope of snatching victory."
After a total of 20 shots throughout the game, Newcastle finally broke through at the depth for a much needed win that moves them further away from the relegation zone. Fulham defended valiantly throughout the game and a solitary piece of magic by Cisse proved to be their undoing,
Newcastle move onto 36 points, six clear of the relegation zone. Fulham remain on 39. Thanks for joining me today, I hope you enjoyed the match. Feel free to find me on Twitter: @DaleJones20
