That sums up their night! Mbokani and Yakovenko end up challenging each other at the back post and neither manages to make an effective connection with a cross from the left.
90' +1
Into the first, of an additional two, minutes of stoppage time.
90'
Kanu gets a chance to run at the Malaga defence but his attempted pass up to Mbokani is read by the visitors' defence and diverted behind for a corner. Wasilewski is the target once more but he fails to hit the target from the resultant set play.
88'
Well it has been a very frustrating night for Anderlecht. After an impressive draw against AC Milan, they have struggled for coherency tonight despite being at home. They seem eager to just get this one over and done with.
87'
M. Iturra gets yellow.
85'
Last-ditch defending from Weligton as he manages to block Mbokani from shooting with a stretching challenge inside the area. It was good work by Anderlecht to engineer the chance but Malaga will be keen to hold onto the clean sheet.
83'
Anderlecht are caught with too many men in up top again and Malaga break through Fernandez. He holds the play up well and the ball is worked across to Eliseu. The Portuguese tries to find the striker again but he is closed down by Nuytinck before he can turn and shoot.
81'
S. Fernández enters the game and replaces Isco.
Gillet sends a header just wide but once more the referee's assistant raises his flag. Malaga's defence has been supremely organised tonight, keeping a straight line at the back continually.
80'
Kanu finally shows a glimpse of his attacking talent as he scoops a brilliant pass over the top of the defence to Mbokani. The striker chases it down but he fails to catch the ball. That was the first sign of any cohesion up front.
Minute
Description
78'
Duda does well to win a free kick for his side as a rapid break loses momentum. He steps up to take it and manages to clear the wall but his attempt sails straight into the chest of Proto.
77'
Anderlecht have the ball in the Malaga half but they just are not clicking together. The ball is finally moved out wide to Deschacht but the full-back's cross into the box is capably dealt with.
74'
Duda enters the game and replaces Joaquín.
Joaquin makes way after a brilliant shift for the Andalusians. The former Valencia man was given a free role and used it brilliantly, always pushing beyond the defence and finding space to trouble the hosts. Duda comes on in his place, who is no less attack-minded.
72'
JUST WIDE!! Yakovenko's corner is met by Wasilewski inside the area and the Pole diverts a header towards goal. Caballero can do nothing but a deflection sends the ball wide for another corner. From that one, the keeper comes out and punches away to clear the danger.
71'
Sergio Sánchez gets yellow.
Malaga have a chance to break but as Eliseu's lofted cross-field pass sends Santa Cruz too far wide on the left, the Paraguayan is forced to slow it down and the momentum is lost. Anderlecht pack bodies behind the ball and the visitors are forced into an error.
69'
Anderlecht show the visitors that they are not the only team capable of playing some impressive football as they work possession across the pitch well. It ends up with Yakovenko and he curls a cross into the area but the flag is raised for an offside decision.
67'
ITURRA!! So close! More mouthwatering football from the Andalusians as the defensive-midfielder plays a give-and-go with Isco. He receives the second pass in space in the area but fails to pick out one of the corners, shooting straight at Proto.
66'
R. Santa Cruz enters the game and replaces J. Saviola.
Malaga have been fantastic tonight and that third goal embodied all of their best aspects. Tenacity in the middle, sublime play-making and awesome finishing.
64'
Eliseu has scored a goal for Malaga! Assist by Isco.
GOOOOAAAALL!! Eliseu scores yet another brilliant goal for his second of the night! Iturra wins possession in the Anderlecht half and Isco picks it up, dribbling forward before slipping a pass to Eliseu. The Portuguese clips a wonderful lob across Proto with his first touch that seems to hang in the air for an age before bouncing inside the post. Pure class.
62'
In their debut Champions League campaign, Malaga will be delighted should they secure back-to-back wins from their first two games.
60'
Joaquin flights the ball in from the left but his delivery is headed away by the hosts' defence. Anderlecht cannot afford to lose their heads here or their goal difference could take a severe battering.
59'
M. Wasilewski gets yellow.
O. Yakovenko enters the game and replaces M. Jovanović.
Fantastic play from Isco as he glides past the frustrated Anderlecht players. The 20-year-old dribbles past a pair of yellow shirts before Wasilewski charges in and brings him down.
58'
Dieumerci Mbokani gets yellow.
M. Demichelis gets yellow.
Mbokani picks up a needless booking after going down far too easily following minimal contact from Demichelis. The Argentine has a few words for the striker and talks himself into the book too.
56'
Penalty goal scored by Joaquín for Malaga!
C. Kouyaté gets yellow.
JOAQUIN SLOTS IT AWAY!! The midfielder has had a cracking game so far and he shows great composure to bury the spot-kick. He gets plenty of height and pace on it, sending it to the right of Proto who cannot stop it despite diving the correct way.
55'
PENALTY TO MALAGA!! Monreal pushes on down the left with another brilliant run and he is picked out with a top-drawer pass. He cuts inside of Kouyate and the Senegalese scythes him down and the referee points to the spot.
54'
Isco is pulling all the strings when Malaga attack, but Anderlecht are seeing a lot more of the ball in the early stages of the second half. His link-up with Monreal has been quality.
52'
Elsewhere in Group C tonight, AC Milan secured their first win of the tournament as they rode their luck to a 3-2 win against Zenit. As it stands, the Rossoneri will end the night in second, behind Malaga, while the Russians prop up the group from the bottom.
49'
Poor decision from the assistant referee, adjudging Joaquin to be offside when sent through one-on-one. The replays show he clearly was not and Malaga can feel robbed of a decent opportunity to double their lead.
48'
Sloppy pay from Biglia there as he hesitates on the ball and is pickpocketed by the Malaga midfield. The switch play to the left but Monreal is unable to get the better of Gillet, only earning his side a throw in deep in the opposition half.
47'
Kljestan's first involvement is to pick up a loose ball at the top of the Malaga box and fire a shot at Caballero. Under pressure, he struggles to pick out a corner and the keeper is faced with a relatively simple save.
46'
S. Klještan enters the game and replaces M. Bruno.
We are back under way in Brussels. The Paars-wit have made one change, bringing Kljestan on in place of Bruno.
45' +1
Eliseu has scored a goal for Malaga!
UNBELIEVABLE!!! ELISEU!!! What an astonishing goal! A corner from the left is headed away by Kouyate at the near post. It only travels as far as the Portuguese though, and with the ball bouncing up perfectly, he rockets an absolutely magnificent strike into the top corner. Unstoppable.
45'
Gillet is letting far too much past him at right-back tonight. This time Saviola gets into the space but he is hesitant to shoot. He rolls a half-hearted ball into the centre of the box but Kouyate intercepts and the hosts get it away.
42'
Good play from Anderlecht. It is Jovanovic again who is the source of danger, drifting inside from the left once more. He feeds Mbokani, who stays onside and lashes an effort for the far corner from an acute angle. He puts it too close to Caballero though, and the keeper gets a hand to it to swat it away.
41'
The game turns a bit scrappy there for a moment as a number of passes by both teams are misplaced. Proto manages to stop a back pass from rolling behind for a corner and slows down the pace to avoid any such mistakes again.
40'
Eliseu is being booed by a section of the crowd for a little bit of playacting he did earlier in the game. He is unperturbed though and links up well with Joaquin from the right. The pass through to the Portuguese has too much weight on it though and Proto comes to claim.
37'
Handball from Kouyate earns Malaga a free kick 35 yards from goal. Eliseu is going to take it...
BEAUTIFUL FOOTBALL!! Eliseu feigns to drive a shot at goal but instead passes to Joaquin at the top of the box. He flicks the ball with his trailing leg into the path of Saviola but the former Barcelona man stabs it straight at Proto. That deserved a goal, what a move.
35'
Anderlecht are enjoying a decent spell with possession in the opposition half here. Malaga are being penned back but the Belgians are struggling to engineer any opportunities to test Caballero. They will need to be wary of the counterattack now, though.
33'
Interestingly, Malaga have never lost to Belgian opposition. However, you cannot read too much into that little statistic though, they have only ever come up against Gent in the 2002 Intertoto Cup, earning one win and one draw across two legs.
31'
An ambitious effort from Kanu as he tries to bend in a shot from 30-yards. He gets the direction right but puts too much elevation on the ball. Caballero is unsure and scrambles back towards his goal line but simply watches it drop behind his goal.
30'
Good hands from Proto! Joaquin against find acres of space behind the defence on the left and he picks out Isco at the top of the box. The 20-year-old shifts the ball back onto his left foot with a top first touch and rifles a low shot at goal. The keeper gets down to it once more and absorbs the power from the shot to clutch it to his chest.
27'
HOW DID HE MISS!! Bruno puts a low cross into the box from the left and the Malaga defence are caught static. Mbokani meets the ball at the near post but he fails to steer it on target, only diverting it into the hording behind the goal. To spare his blushes though, the assistant referee had raised his flag, awarding an offside.
26'
WHAT A CHANCE!! There he is again! Isco initiates the play, feeding Saviola who in turns slot a pass to the feet of Joaquin. His first touch takes him too close to the onrushing Proto, who blocks the wingers effort. Saviola follows in for the rebound but his header is cleared away by Deschacht.
25'
We saw just how devastating Isco can be on matchday one when he put two goals past Zenit St Petersburg in a 3-0 win. Anderlecht have not picked him up yet today and he is influencing the play brilliantly so far.
23'
HE SHOULD HAVE DONE BETTER! Joaquin is picked out at the far post with a huge amount of time and space. He ducks inside onto his right foot but is heading away from goal at an angle. He eventually shoots, clearly searching out the opposite corner, but Proto is equal to it and holds the ball.
21'
Neither side has really got into their full stride yet. Anderlecht have been a bit sloppy in possession while Malaga are being restricted by the hosts' compact defence. But both teams do have personnel who could well change all that in a matter of seconds.
19'
A superb pass from Isco, through the eye of a needle, sets Monreal in behind on the left. The former Osasuna man cuts the ball back to Saviola who takes a good first touch, but just as he looks to pull the trigger he is muscled off the ball by Nuytinck.
18'
The last time Anderlecht came up against Spanish opposition was in the 2009-10 Europa League. The Paars-wit came out on top, defeating Athletic Bilbao 5-1 on aggregate, including a 4-0 win at home against the Basque side. A similar result does not really look on the cards though.
16'
G. Gillet gets yellow.
15'
GREAT STRIKE!! Eliseu comes into the middle of the pitch and picks up the ball in acres of space. He sets himself for a shot and drills a low effort at goal from 35-yards. It is superbly struck, with tremendous power, and although Proto dives to his left it goes narrowly wide.
14'
A great ball in from the left by Deschacht finds the space between the keeper and the defenders in front of him. Demichelis lets in run past him and Mbokani decides not to gamble, meaning the cross goes untouched and out behind for a goal kick.
12'
Monreal and Isco combine well but after initially being beaten to the ball by the attacking-midfielder, Gillet recovers to win possession and then clear it away. It has been a fairly cagey start to this one, though Malaga's fluidity in attack does look very impressive.
10'
Kanu and Mbokani try to scythe through the Liga side's defence with some quick interplay at the top of the box. The latter's past back to the Brazilian is misplaced though and Malaga manage to collect the ball. Both sides looking very compact in defence.
8'
Top interception from Wasilewski to stop Saviola from threading a pass up to Joaquin. The winger would have been through on goal there so it was absolutely vital the the Pole got something on that. A positive start from the visitors here.
7'
Good play from Jovanovic! The former Liverpool man drifts in off the left, cutting inside of Sergio Sanchez all too easily. He attempts to play in Mbokani but his pass runs through to Caballero. It would not have counted anyway as the referee's assistant has raised his flag for an offside decision against the striker.
6'
Anderlecht are already setting out to contain the Andalusians, forming a line of six players across the defence to restrict the space for the likes of Saviola and Isco to run into. They press Malaga quickly and force an error to relieve the pressure.
4'
The delivery finds Demichelis unmarked at the back post and he powers a header back into the danger area. It arrives at an awkward height and Camacho struggles to bring it under his control. Van den Brom will be disappointed with the poor marking there.
3'
A free kick for Malaga as Nuytinck goes in hard on Eliseu. It is in a wide-of-centre position and Joaquin looks set to swing it in...
2'
The fluidity of Malaga's attack is already proving evident. Joaquin pops up on the left and passes the ball to Isco. He looks to wriggle his way between a couple of defenders but Biglia puts in a good challenge and dispossesses him. Anderlecht counter but a poor final ball from Bruno wastes the chance.
1'
We are under way at the Constant Vanden Stock. Anderlecht in their alternate kit of purple begin the game shooting from left to right.
Good evening and welcome to Goal.com's LIVE text commentary on tonight's Champions League match-up between Anderlecht and Malaga. My name is Tom Webber and I will be guiding you through all the action.
Anderlecht, who lifted the Belgian league title for the 31st time earlier this year, are at full fitness tonight. However, the Andalusian outfit cannot call upon Jeremy Toulalan, Diego Buonanotte and Julio Baptista, all of whom did not travel to Brussels due to injury.
Here are how the teams line up tonight starting with the hosts, Anderlecht (4-2-3-1): Proto; Wasilewski, Kouyate, Nuytinck, Deschacht; Gillet, Biglia; Bruno, Kanu, Jovanovic; Mbokani. Subs: Kaminski, Juhasz, Kljestan, Praet, Canesin, Yakovenko, De Sutter.
The Paars-wit have a changeable record against Spanish opposition. Having won their initial seven home games against Liga visitors, they have failed to match that record in their most recent fixtures, losing three of the past four.
Both of these sides have started their respective domestic seasons in positive fashion. Anderlecht currently sit second in the Belgian top-flight whilst Malaga occupy third place in La Liga, remaining unbeaten so far.
The handshakes are being completed and kick off is just a few short moments away. Can Isco provide another sublime Champions League performance or will the physical Belgians hold out and steal a positive result in front of their home crowd? Let me know your thoughts on Twitter, @thwebber.
What an end to the half that was! Eliseu's emphatic strike gives Malaga a 1-0 lead over Anderlecht at half time. The Andalusians have been the better side by and large, though the hosts have had their moments also. They will need to be more adventurous in the second half if they want to rescue a point. Join me in 15 minutes to find out if they can.
Welcome back! The second half the Constant Vanden Stock is just a few moments away. Anderlecht need to go at Malaga now if they want to take something from this game, while the visitors will be desperate for maximum points ahead of their double-header against Milan.
It is all over at the Constant Vanden Stock and Malaga have secured an impressive 3-0 win, with a Joaquin penalty adding to two fine goals from Elisue, to maintain their 100 per cent record in Group C. They offered some fantastically fluid attacking play and the hosts never really stood a chance.
Thank you for joining us at Goal.com for tonight's Champions League coverage. Be sure to stick with us for all the post-match news and analysis from all of this evening's games. My name is Tom Webber and it has been a pleasure, as always, to guide you through the action.
