It's finished 2-2 in Durban. Sangweni's late strike coupled with Cape Verde's late, late win Port Elizabeth means that the hosts are staying, and staying in Durban for the quarter-final.
90' +7
IT'S FULL TIME! MOROCCO ARE OUT! BAFANA BAFANA ARE THROUGH!!!!!!!!!!!
90' +5
Into fifth minute of added time, four signalled. This is immensely mad. South Africa holding on near the corner flag, and Lamyaghri goes down..
90' +3
Tons of injury time added on for an injury to Khune. Unbelievable timewasting, Morocco furious.
90' +2
K. Dikgacoi enters the game and replaces M. Mahlangu.
Dikgacoi goes on for Mahlangu. It's FT in Port Elizabeth - Cape Verde 2-1 Angola - a night of drama in Africa. Cape Verde qualify for now. For a minute at least.
90'
INTO FOUR MINUTES OF ADDED TIME. Drama - Morocco need a goal thanks to Cape Verde's late winner.
89'
UPDATE - GOAL IN PORT ELIZABETH! GOAL FOR CAPE VERDE! MOROCCO GOING OUT! SOUTH AFRICA GOING THROUGH!
87'
In a little over five minutes - Morocco have gone from topping the group, to exiting the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations. AS IT STANDS - Morocco going through on goal scored.
86'
Siya. Sangweni has scored a goal for South Africa! Assist by M. Mahlangu.
GOAL! SOUTH AFRICA EQUALISE! WHAT DRAMA! Superb drama, superb goal. Sangweni - up front, bends a FANTASTIC strike past Lamyaghri. BAFANA BAFANA ERUPT! IT'S 2-2!
85'
Sangweni forward as South Africa attack mercilessly in search of an equaliser. What a game, and what a tense ending. SA fans in silence, and despair as Igesund roars his team through. As it stands, it doesn't matter, they're still through.
Minute
Description
84'
UPDATE: GOAL IN PORT ELIZABETH! Cape Verde 1-1 Angola - AS IT STANDS: Morocco would top the group, South Africa second, Cape Verde in third.
83'
Morocco celebrate, and South Africa are in despair. At the moment, they are all right, but things could change. It's so tense here in Durban. Rachid Taoussi and his men celebrate on the touchline.
82'
A. Hafidi has scored a goal for Morocco! Assist by Z. Bergdich.
GOAL! MOROCCO TAKE THE LEAD! Fantastic finish by Hafidi, who takes control of a cross, chests it down, and fires past Khune. So much time for the substitute. Durban is silenced.
79'
Mahlangu chases a loose ball as Lamyaghri bides his time seeing the ball out harmlessly for a goal-kick. Entering the last ten minutes in Durban, and also in the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
77'
Ngconga makes progress down the right wing, and again the cross is threatening with Serero waiting down the middle. Beautifully cleared away by Benatia with the overhead kic.
76'
R. Letsholonyane enters the game and replaces B. Parker.
FUN FACT: If Cape Verde equalise in Port Elizabeth. We will have a situation where Morocco and Cape Verde have same points, same goal difference and goals scored. It will then be decided on fair play results. Morocco's three bookings in this game will now look rather silly!
Substitution for South Africa: Bernard Parker is off for Reneilwe Letsholonyane - Bafana Bafana are going for the winner!
75'
M. El Hamdaoui enters the game and replaces A. Barrada.
Abdel Barrada - who has tailed off performance-wise in the second half, is replaced by Mounir El Hamdaoui - of Fiorentina in Serie A. Can he send Morocco into the next round?
74'
B. Parker gets yellow.
73'
PARKER! That goal has rejuvenated Morocco. It's a superb chance for Bernard Parker, who heads over Lamyaghri's goal. Morocco activity on the bench, Rachid Taoussi's men are readying a substitution to counter this setback.
72'
AS IT STANDS - South Africa top Group A, Morocco will be heading out as Angola lead Cape Verde in Port Elizabeth 1-0. Morocco need a goal, either here or in Port Elizabeth.
71'
M. Mahlangu has scored a goal for South Africa! Assist by T. Rantie.
GOAL! BAFANA BAFANA SCORE! DURBAN HAS COME ALIVE! Fantastic goal by Mahlangu who takes advantage of static defending to curl a strike into the top corner. A real fantastic goal.
Stupndous goal from May Siphwe Mahlangu. The Moses Mabidha Stadium roars in joy as South Africa equalise. Morocco's Kamel Chafni is reprimanded for another tackle, this time on Serero.
68'
CHAFNI! Poor finish. Morocco break with gusto, through substitute Hafiid, who tees up the Stade Brestois midfielder on the right flank. Finish from Chafni is high, wide and not very handsome.
67'
Well, Lamyaghri's gone down here - for no apparent reason. Looks like due to a grazed elbow, but he's gone down looking like he's been tackled. Very weird, and possibly a time-wasting technique.
66'
K. Chafni gets yellow.
PHALA! Delivered in well by the number 18, whose delivery evades everyone, forcing Lamyaghri to turn it around for a corner, very late. The goalkeeper rages fury at his team-mates.
65'
Yellow card to Kamel Chafni, after a challenge on the South African player. Third booking for Morocco here, and a free-kick will be awarded to the hosts.
64'
Substitution: Chakhir Belghazouani off for Zakaria Bergdich.
Sangweni with another poor header, this time from a South African corner, which pings harmlessly wide of Lamyaghri's goal. About 25 minutes to go in this one.
63'
Z. Bergdich enters the game and replaces C. Belghazouani.
Parker finds Ngcongca on the overlap, and the cross in from the right flank is headed away by the brilliant Benatia, who has not put a foot wrong in this game at the moment. Morocco ready a substitution.
62'
Chance for South Africa, who are now active in the Moroccan box. The loose ball falls to Serero, who controls well, before firing a low effort towards Lamyaghri. It's somewhat tame, but it's a shot on target. Improvements for Bafana Bafana.
61'
Khune has now denied Morocco three gilt-edged chances in this Group A encounter. How it is 1-0, is anyone's guess. Brilliant goalkeeping from Khune, who looked poor in the opening stages.
60'
EL ARABI! Another brilliant save for Khune. Morocco have spurned YET another golden opportunity. Sangweni with a weak header, with the Granada striker one on one with Khune - much like Chafni in the first half - and the little chip does not faze the goalkeeper, who palms it away.
58'
Worth noting out that there are very few seats that are empty inside the Moses Mabidha Stadium - with South Africa's organising committee declaring the match a sell-out earlier today. A real coup for 2013 AFCON organisers.
57'
A. Hafidi gets yellow.
CAF president Issa Hayatou looks a little bored as he watches on with Rantie is penalised for an overzealous push in the Morocco box. The number 23 looking a little ineffectual for Bafana Bafana.
56'
Yellow card to Hafidi, the substitute after a shirt-pull. Poor from the 20-year-old, who appears in CAF's register as Namli, for some reason.
55'
Serero attempts to pick out Rantie down the left wing, but the attack is thwarted by Lamyaghri once more. The Atlas Lions look unbelievably comfortable as both coaches exhibit their fury as a throw-in is contested on the touchline.
53'
A. Hafidi enters the game and replaces Y. Kaddioui.
PHALA! Superb free-kick from Bafana Bafana, and it's a fantastic save by 36-year-old veteran Nadir Lamyaghri. It's got a brilliant curl on it, and met with a great save from the goalkeeper.
Hafidi's first introducton into the game sees him clipped by Dean Furman, as Morocco are awarded a free-kick. Got a good pace, this game.
52'
Free-kick for South Africa in a great position. But before it's taken, Morocco counter with a substitution of their own. Kaddioui off for Hafidi.
51'
T. Serero enters the game and replaces K. Mphela.
Substitution for South Africa: Mphela has gone off in favour of Serero - the highly rated youngster who plies his trade in the Eredivisie with Ajax. Igesund's first change.
50'
Lamyaghri calm once more, as the goalkeeper picks out another cross from the right by Phala. The urgency is there for South Africa, but other results are, once again, not against them.
49'
Ngcongca feeds Phala on the far side of the pitch. Lovely progress made by the right midfielder who holds off Kantari with a few quick steps on the ball before delivering in a low cross.
47'
Early chance by Barrada, who goes down easily under the challenge of Masilela. No penalty at all awarded by Gassama.
Khune gets behind a decent shot from distance by Barrada. Morocco again, have started the better out of the two sides as Parker gets a shot blocked by Benatia.
46'
UNDERWAY IN THE SECOND HALF! No changes at the break.
45' +2
HALF-TIME: Morocco 1-0 South Africa (El Adoua 10')
45' +1
Lovely defending from Benatia, who could've been penalised for a high foot after making that defensive intervention. Clock winding down towards half-time, but a final chance for South Africa following a handball from Belghazouani.
45'
Igesund fury on the touchline after another brilliant Moroccan piece of defending. South Africa attack furiously, but the ball into the box is well cut out by Benatia. Superb. Absolutely superb. TWO ADDED MINUTES.
44'
CHAFNI! Fantastic save by Khune, and a superb piece of play from Morocco. A delightful through ball carves out a gaping hole in the SA defence leaving Chafni all alone, one against one against Khune who races out and successfully tackles Chafni. Lucky it didn't touch him on his hands, or that would've been a red card!
43'
Phala sprays a pass left towards Masilela, but it's played back all the way to Sangweni as South Africa seek to keep possession before mounting an attack. Edging towards half-time here in Durban.
42'
Igesund's men in the ascendancy at the moment. Benatia lectures Achchakir after a bit of play-acting following that Mphela chance. Great work from the captain. Slight delay in play, but we're away again.
40'
Parker drifts in a lofted pass into the box, helped on and Mphela attempts the audacious overhead kick. Benatia at the ready to hurriedly clear as Bafana fans howl in frustration.
38'
Mahlangu combines with Parker, threading the pass to Mphela on the right. Ngcongca advances on the right hand side, but the play is again limited by an over hit cross. Igesund taps his watch on the touchline. Urgency is required.
37'
UPDATE - In Port Elizabeth it is ANGOLA 1-0 CAPE VERDE - as it stands, Morocco would still top the group, South Africa second, Angola third - the latter two on four points. SA have a better head to head courtesy of Wednesday's 2-0 win. Stay with Goal.com for live coverage of that.
36'
Poor. Absolutely poor. Fantastic run by Rantie who launches down the left wing, beating his marker. He can't find the support on the other side of the attack, as Morocco regroup. Should've passed earlier, but fantastic sprint.
35'
El Arabi causes a nervy moment for Bafana Bafana at the back as he chases a loose ball, before being beaten to it by Khumalo. Great defending, but again, they shouldn't be in that position.
34'
A. Ngcongca gets yellow.
33'
Getting a bit physical out there now. Ngcongca booked for Bafana Bafana for a rash challenge on Belghazouani. A slight melee ensues, but the referee makes up his mind. Fiercely competitive.
32'
Gambian referee Gassama is warning Chakhir Belghazouani again over that Phala tackle. The Ajaccio star is already on a yellow card, with the referee ticking him off.
31'
More progress - albeit, slight - being made by South Africa. Phala skips past the challenge of Belghazouani and runs to the by-line before prodding a cross into the box. Ball just went out of play, with the referee awarding a goal-kick.
29'
Frustration settling inside the Moses Mabidha Stadium in Durban as another free-kick awarded against the hosts brings a collective exasperation from the fan. Almost half an hour in, and it's Morocco who are comfortable.
28'
C. Belghazouani gets yellow.
Needless yellow card dished out to Morocco's Chakhir Belghazouani. That's their eighth of the tournament. Should Morocco and Cape Verde both draw their respective games 1-1, we could have a situation where qualification is decided on bookings. Fun fact, there.
27'
Few more tweets: @Nick4Cesc I get an awful feeling bafana went into this with the feeling they where through and now i feel its gonna spit in our face. @Moriri88 predicts: 3-1 to South Africa, no way Morocco is going to win...
26'
PARKER! Better again from South Africa. Their first real chance. Lovely build-up, involving Mphela with an unselfish pass out left. The shot, low, and from the left-foot is dragged just wide as Lamyaghri breathes a sigh of relief.
25'
@Jubby_w9 tweets in: Their defending has been below par, especially from corners, El Adoua is getting easy free headers.
24'
Phala and Rantie combine down the right as they seek to correct their early setback. The ball is aimed for Mahlangu, but the pass is underhit, meaning Achchakir is best placed to nullify the threat.
23'
No is the answer. It's a horrendous free-kick, played short. No trouble at all for Lamyaghri as the defensive wall clears the ball at the first attempt, with Morocco breaking instantly. Very poor decision from South Africa.
21'
Better from Bafana. Mahlangu races forward, and is charged down by Kamel Chafni. Free-kick awarded to the hosts, and it's in a really decent position. Can they make this work?
20'
EL ADOUA! Almost there a second. Substitution required for Bafana Bafana? Another corner. Another problem. Another chance wasted by Taoussi's sie. This time, Issam El Adoua's header pings wide off Masilela.
19'
BELGHAZOUANI! Almost 2-0 there for Morocco. South Africa just cannot get the ball clear from the corner as the Ajaccio striker has a pop at goal. Turned away at the post by Khune, who also - like his team - looks rather unconvincing.
18'
El Arabi again! It's deflected behind by Khumalo. South Africa are really in danger of going further behind. Another chance afforded to the opposition results in a corner to the North Africans. They really are on a downward spiral.
17'
Ngcongca with a free-kick, but it fails to find a team-mate, as South Africa regroup at the back. Coach Gordon Igesund will be wary of his side's deficiencies as El Arabi powers forward.
16'
Don't forget to get involved Bafana Bafana and Atlas Lions fans - what are your predictions? Can Morocco see this out, or will the hosts roar back? Tweet me @mohammedali_93.
15'
Mehdi Benatia is slightly hurt with blood pouring out of his mouth. The Atlas Lions captain should be fine nonetheless as the North Africans start another attacking move. Phala meanwhile, concedes another free-kick.
14'
The vuvuzela noise has considerably died down after such a lethargic start by Bafana Bafana in this crucial Group A encounter. How SA would love for Majoro to be fit for this game. As it stands, their position isn't fatal to their chances.
12'
PERMUTATIONS: AS IT STANDS - Morocco would top the group with five points, with South Africa second in four. Both would go through.
In Port Elizabeth - it's currently Cape Verde 0-0 Angola (live also on Goal.com) - Cape Verde currently sit 3rd in the table.
11'
It's a superb goal for Morocco, and the best possible start. Barrada with the assist, and he has had a brilliant impact in the opening ten minutes. At the other end, South Africa are appealing for a penalty after Parker goes to ground.
10'
I. El Adoua has scored a goal for Morocco! Assist by A. Barrada.
GOAL! MOROCCO TAKE THE LEAD! It's a fine inswinging delivery from the corner. El Adoua gets his head on it, and Khune is absolutely nowhere to defend the ball. It goes in off the crossbar, and MOROCCO ARE AHEAD!
8'
Barrada providing the spark early on, as he lifts a ball in towards the middle, but Dean Furman is again there to cancel it out and concede a corner. Morocco have really started this well - testament to Taoussi's shaking fists on the touchline.
7'
PENALTY?! No. Senegalese referee Gassama waves play on as Rantie goes down under the challenge of Ahmed Kantari. Good decision too, with Rantie going down just a bit too easily for the referee's liking.
6'
Free-kick delivered in well, but Dean Furman clears the danger hurriedly. Rachid Taoussi's side have begun this with far more gusto compared to their lethargic opening two draws against Angola and Cape Verde.
5'
Free-kick to Morocco after Phala lunges in on Abdel Barrada. The midfielder, who plies his trade in Spain with Getafe, is writhing in agony and the pain is clearly heard on camera. He should be alright, however.
4'
EL ARABI! Brilliant save from Khune. It's Morocco who have the first real chance on goal. A lovely lifted ball into the striker sees Khune race off his line and bat the ball away before holding the ball at the second attempt. South Africa are yet to race out of the blocks.
3'
Nervy moments for Khune who strikes a loose ball against El Arabi. Luckily for the Bafana goalkeeper, it didn't harm him too much as the ball dropped away from the goal. Both sides on the edge a little.
2'
Good start from Morocco who earn a set-piece in the opening exchanges. Delivered in towards the edge of the area, Kaddioui strikes - but it's flown just wide of the post.
1'
KICK-OFF! The referee gets the match started as a tense 90 minutes commences at the Moses Mabidha. Morocco or South Africa could be out in little under two hours.
Good afternoon, and welcome to Goal.com's LIVE! text commentary from the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations! We've just past the halfway stage of the tournament, and now enter the business end of the competition. Group A concludes today, and I'll be bringing you Morocco v South Africa from the Moses Mabidha Stadium in Durban.
I'm Mohammed Ali, and I'll be guiding you through today's events for the next two hours. Don't forget to use Twitter to send us your predictions, musings and comments and tell me what you think throughout the 90 minutes to @mohammedali_93. Get involved!
Well. The Rainbow Nation takes note as Bafana Bafana aim to reach the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations. Here in beautiful Durban, coach Gordon Igesund will be hoping that his side can position themselves well for tougher tests as they face a struggling Morocco side who are yet to set the tournament alight.
The big blow for South Africa is the injury suffered by Lehlohonolo Majoro - scorer in the 2-0 win over Angola a couple of days ago. The forward will miss today's encounter, as well as a possible quarter-final, while fellow forward Tokelo Rantie is doubtful after twisting an ankle.
The Atlas Lions of Morocco, meanwhile are in danger of following North African rivals Algeria at exiting the competition. Whilst a defeat for South Africa won't be fatal in their quest to reach the last eight, Rachid Taoussi's men require victory (or even a draw, but that's a whole different thing, altogether. Stay tuned for permutations) to progress. They'll be without influential playmaker Younes Belhanda of Montpellier, who is suspended.
Nevertheless, the Maghreb side will be at full strength otherwise, and are expected to name almost, the same line-up that were held to a shock 0-0 draw with Cape Verde Islands on Wednesday evening. Defeat here, would mirror their shock elimination this time last year in Libreville, when Bruno Zita Mbanangoye's 97th minute stunner from a free-kick, condemned Morocco to an early exit.
Taoussi however, is wary of his side's deficiencies: "What is important for us is to reach the knockout stage. We have talented footballers, but sometimes lack team-work. It is a bitter reality I am striving to change."
Meanwhile, Bafana Bafana head coach Igesund vows to be balanced in this crucial encounter. "I was very happy with the team that started [against Angola] and I was very happy with the team that finished. Playing defensive football is not my style. However, I cannot go out there and open up, leaving us vulnerable to counter-attacks."
So, who will join Ivory Coast in the next round, and who will join Algeria on the first plane out of Johannesburg? Don't forget to send your tweets in (to @mohammedali_93), and you can also catch LIVE coverage of today's other game running simultaneously - Cape Verde v Angola, also on Goal.com.
PERMUTATIONS
You might need to give this a read over two or three times.
SOUTH AFRICA will advance if: they do not lose to Morocco, OR Cape Verde do not defeat Angola.
MOROCCO will advance if: 1.) they defeat South Africa
2.) OR they draw with South Africa AND Cape Verde draw with Angola AND Morocco outscore Cape Verde,
3.) OR Morocco and Cape Verde score equal goals AND Morocco have a better booking record than Cape Verde,
4.) OR Morocco and Cape Verde have an equal booking record AND Morocco win by drawing of lots.
MOROCCO: Lamyaghri, Achchakir, Kantari, Benatia, Barrada, El Arabi, Kadioui, El Kaoutari, El Adoua, Belghazouani, Chafni
The sides are out as Durban descends into sunset. The biggest game so far at the Africa Cup of Nations is five minutes away. The national anthems play.
The beautiful South African anthem is met with loud cheers by Bafana Bafana's delirious fans. We've seen some empty seats at this year's AFCON, but there are no such problems in Durban for a huge encounter.
Half-time in Durban. And South Africa really do need to take advantage of the interval following a nervy and tenacious first 45'. Morocco were all over them in the first 20 minutes following Issam El Adoua's headed opener. Chafni, Belghazouani and El Arabi all had brilliant chances to extend the lead with Bafana Bafana's back four appearing too timid to make important challenges. All to play for in a massive 45 minutes coming up.
In Port Elizabeth, Angola are 1-0 up against Cape Verde. As it stands, Morocco would stay top with five points, followed by South Africa on four. Angola would also be on four, but Gordon Igesund's side have a better head to head record.
From a logistical point of view, a win for either Morocco or South Africa would see them remain in Durban. The second quarter-final will be played there next Saturday against the runners-up of Group B.
It has been the best match in the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, and one of the most memorable finishes in AFCON history. Morocco, who went from going out, to going top, to going out in seven minutes - are eliminated. Hosts South Africa through, and the smallest nation in the competition - Cape Verde qualify. It truly has been dramatic.
Well, I don't think anything can top this in the remaining group fixtures. South Africa remain in Durban, and await the Group B runner-up next weekend. Stay with Goal.com for more AFCON news, reports and reaction. From me, Mohammed Ali, good night!
