Konate goes down in the penalty area, but Handanovic does just enough to grab the ball away from the substitute. Genoa look to be nearly over the line now, with Perin able to clear a long ball by Inter upfield.
90' +1
KOVACIC! NAGATOMO! Both players have half chances, but their strikes are blocked. The rebound is back out to the Japanese wing-back, but a header from Antonini denies Inter again. The hosts look set to grab their fifth home win of the season.
89'
GREAT SAVE BY PERIN! Excellent save by the keeper, who reaches out a right hand to beat away a bouncing Palacio header! He is up off his feet quickly to race out and claim at the second attempt. His defenders congratulate him.
88'
Palacio rises well in the penalty area, but the Argentine can only flick the ball on, and out of play. Inter are running out of ideas, with their long balls not having the desired effect, and the pitch not being in a good enough state to play intricate football.
86'
E. Calaiò enters the game and replaces A. Gilardino.
Less than five minutes on the clock, and Genoa are in a very good position to beat Inter, which they haven't managed in a very long time. De Ceglie wins a corner for his side, which helps the hosts to run down the remaining minutes. He's impressing his new fans this afternoon.
85'
M. Konaté gets yellow.
84'
R. Botta enters the game and replaces Juan Jesus.
A bizarre decision by the referee, as Konate is booked for a dive, despite being absolutely flattened by Juan Jesus. The Brazilian defender is lucky, he was already on a yellow card, and the substitute was driving towards goal.
83'
L. Antonelli has scored a goal for Genoa! Assist by A. Bertolacci.
GOOOOOOAL! ANTONELLI HEADS HOME FROM THE CORNER! Juan Jesus' block proves to be for nothing, with Antonelli nodding home after a brilliant jump, to head beyond the helpless Handanovic! They've been dangerous from set pieces all game, and finally have a goal.
82'
EXCELLENT BLOCK! Juan Jesus throws himself in front of a shot by Gilardino, who looks to find the near post on the turn, but the Brazilian saves his Inter side! Yet another corner for Genoa, however.
81'
PALACIO! Palacio is fed the ball by Cambiasso, after a smart cross from Milito. Palacio fires towards goal, despite the ball being bogged down, but Perin is just about equal to it. A poor finish, rather than a great save.
Minute
Description
80'
Good goalkeeping from Perin! The Italian keeper races out, anticipating that the ball would be held up in the mud, smothering the ball narrowly ahead of the arriving Palacio. The conditions are really playing havoc in the hosts' penalty box.
79'
Antonini did excellently to deflect a cross away from its target of Guarin, with the Colombian poised to try and hook a volley towards Perin's goal. Genoa are dropping deeper, inviting Inter on somehow, but Mazzarri's side aren't looking to possess the quality to score.
77'
Genoa make what could arguably be a negative change, taking off their main threat of Fetfatzidis. Gasperini may be targeting a mere share of the spoils now, given his side's woes in front of goal. Just over ten minutes for either outfit to find the back of the net.
76'
M. Konaté enters the game and replaces G. Fetfatzidis.
75'
Important clearance for Genoa! Antonini manages to hoof the ball away, after Perin fumbled the ball awfully. He was equal to the weak shot, but so nearly spilled the ball out to a lurking Inter player.
74'
GILARDINO! The experienced striker is found offside once again, by a looping crossfield ball, despite his strike only finding its way down the throat of Handanovic. Inter break, and De Maio makes an important clearance to deny Guarin.
73'
MILITO! The Argentine striker pivots on the penalty spot, beating De Maio with his smart turn, but the shot lacks power and Perin is able to gather with ease. Things aren't quite clicking in attack for the Argentine duo of Milito and Palacio.
72'
P. De Ceglie enters the game and replaces S. Sturaro.
Gasperini chooses to take off one of his booked players, Sturaro, as the former Inter manager presumably doesn't want to end this game with ten men and make it harder than it needs to be. Recently signed Juventus left-back Paolo de Ceglie makes his first appearance for the club.
71'
Juan Jesus gets yellow.
70'
Four bookings now for Genoa, in a game which is being forced to be scrappy by the weather. Jonathan whips in a cross from the right hand side, but it loops behind for a goal kick. He apologises to his teammates, with Mazzarri looking on with despair from his dugout.
69'
S. Sturaro gets yellow.
68'
FETFATZIDIS! He has another half chance, after beating Rolando and getting to the byline! He drags his effort wide of the post, having almost none of the goal to aim at. He's proving to be a real handful.
67'
GUARIN! Perin beats away a powerful volley by Guarin! A goal mouth scramble follows in the Genoa penalty area, before the ball is looped back into the space in between Perin and his defensive line. The Italian keeper is quick off his line to smother the ball which was held up in the mud.
65'
FETFATZIDIS! The Greek forward tries his luck again, firing between Rolando and Cambiasso, but can only drag his eventual shot wide of the near post. He's been very lively in this game, and could prove to be the difference between the two sides.
64'
GREAT SAVE BY HANDANOVIC! Fetfatzidis cuts inside from the right hand side, carving a yard for himself as Rolando is fooled by a drop of the shoulder. His effort is powerful and dipping, but the Slovenian international goalkeeper beats the effort over the bar.
63'
F. Guarín enters the game and replaces Z. Kuzmanović.
62'
Inter are looking to make the first change of the second half, with this game getting away from them a little bit. The Colombian Guarin is set to be the man to liven things up, with Mazzarri recognising that his deep midfield two have been very anonymous.
60'
A. Bertolacci gets yellow.
Half an hour left to play, and it remains hard to predict who will come out on top. Gilardino has another half chance, as the experienced striker flicks a well-placed cross into the grateful arms of Handanovic. So close, but yet so far, for the hosts.
58'
Š. Vrsaljko gets yellow.
Vrsaljko is booked for a terrible challenge on Campagnaro, raking his studs down the leg of the Argentine defender. A few dangerous tackles have been made in this weather, and neither manager will want to see a red card, or a key player injured as merely a result of this weather.
56'
Genoa haven't had a great deal of luck in recent fixtures against Inter, in front of goal, and they look likely to continue this theme this afternoon. Milito is penalised for a push on De Maio in the Genoa penalty area, as Inter continue to employ quite direct tactics.
54'
Inter haven't quite got going in this second half, with Gilardino and Fetfatzidis combining well in the opening stages. A looping cross from Nagatomo doesn't find its way to anybody in the Genoa penalty area. A second 45 minutes devoid of quality so far.
52'
FETFATZIDIS! Handanovic does just enough to palm away a flick on by the Greek forward, after a good cross by Vrsaljko, allowing for Campagnaro to clear Inter's lines. Bertolacci then has a go from range, but Handanovic is able to pat down the strike with ease.
50'
GILARDINO! The Italy international races through on goal, beating Rolando and Campagnaro, after the Portuguese slips. As he bears down on Handanovic, the water has its say once again, keeping the ball bogged down under the striker's feet. That was a big chance.
49'
A rather cagey start to proceedings in the second half, oddly, after an all-action first half. The surface water on the field has already had an effect, with the rain starting to pour down again as we speak. These conditions could have a profound effect on this result today.
47'
PALACIO! What a miss from the Argentine against his former club! The ball is held up by the surface water, allowing for the Inter striker to have the opportunity to find the far corner, but he blasts wide from eight yards out. A positive start by the visitors.
46'
We are underway in the second half, after constant work on the field by the groundsmen during the half time break. The forks have been in heavy use, and we look okay to continue. Inter have got plenty of work to do if they are to get the better of this hardworking Genoa side.
44'
Only a few minutes left, before the groundstaff can come on and ensure that Handanovic's penalty area is in better condition in the second half. Genoa are having a strong last ten minutes, winning plenty of corners, but Handanovic remains relatively untested.
42'
Two corners in quick succession for Genoa, but the home side fail to convert on both occasions. Fetfatzidis tries to skip into the penalty area, but Palacio slides in well to clear for him another set piece. Rolando is able to clear this time, before Antonini is penalised for trying a dangerous overhead kick.
40'
Five minutes until the break, and Gasperini will be pleased with how his side have fared thus far. Their pressing has kept the likes of Milito quiet, with their wide men stretching Inter and winning a few corners as a result of the lively Fetfatzidis. Gilardino has been anonymous, however.
38'
Another goalmouth scramble for Inter to deal with, as Handanovic palms away a close range effort from Marchese. The rebound falls to Cofie, but the midfielder couldn't get a shot away, and Inter clear their lines.
37'
Another niggling foul, with Fetfatzidis once again being brought down. The former Olympiakos man has looked very lively in this first half, skipping away from challenges and winning fouls in dangerous areas for the hosts.
35'
Ten minutes until the break, and this game continues to be hard fought as predicted. In recent months, both sides have lacked the quality to grab them all-important victories, and the same is ringing true here. Palacio in particular has had real chances, but the Argentina international just couldn't find the back of the net.
33'
Great clearance from Campagnaro, as the Argentine hoofs away a dangerous cross which was held up by a puddle on the edge of the penalty area. The referee ignores fouls on both Sturaro and Fetfatzidis in the build up, choosing to play advantage despite there not being any.
32'
Genoa continue to frustrate, with Nagatomo unable to have any effect on the game. Wing-backs are important in Mazzarri's formation, but the home side aren't allowing them to have much impact. Marchese clears a cross flighted in by Kuzmanovic, with Genoa looking solid.
30'
Half an hour has passed, with neither side able to take the lead, despite a handful of good chances for either team. The weather has been the main talking point, given how the downpour has affected the run of the ball at times, but the game will be continuing. An even half, thus far.
29'
Another potential injury problem for Inter, after Milito grips his ankle following being caught by a stray stud. The conditions are really affecting this game, with challenges becoming potentially dangerous and the run of the ball being affected massively in Inter's half.
27'
STURARO! The pitch saves Inter! Jonathan tries to clear a loose ball on the edge of the area, but the surface interferes and the Brazilian misses his clearance. Sturaro picks it up, firing towards goal, but a puddle in front of Handanovic takes all of the power off the strike.
26'
Inter's dominance has dwindled in the past ten minutes, with Genoa coming right back into the game. Bertolacci receives a throw-in from Antonelli, before firing a half volley wide of Handanovic's near post. Plenty of half chances in the early stages.
24'
PALACIO! The former Genoa man fires the ball across the face of goal, but can't find either the bottom corner, nor Milito at the back post. He robbed the ball brilliantly from Antonini, but couldn't capitalise.
22'
Gilardino has the ball in the back of the net, but the linesman has his flag raised! The linesman takes a moment to make his decision, but it's clearly offside. The Italy international passes the ball home, though the surface attempts to slow the finish slightly. Rain continues to worsen this pitch.
21'
M. Kovačić enters the game and replaces R. Álvarez.
20'
MARCHESE! The Genoa man finds himself in the penalty area, before looking to find Gilardino with a perhaps unintentional flick back towards the penalty spot. Ricky is unable to continue after clashing with Cofie, with Kovacic the man to replace him.
19'
Ricky picks up a knock, after being caught by a late challenge. Inter's corner which resulted from Jonathan's strike comes to nothing, before Kuzmanovic loops another cross into the box. Perin claims with ease. Direct football seems to be the order of the day, given the conditions.
18'
JONATHAN! A golden chance for the Brazilian, despite high pressure from Cofie! Milito swivels in the area, before clipping an excellent cross to the back post for the wing-back, but the surface prevents him from having a good first touch. Cofie throws himself at the eventual strike, saving Perin, as Jonathan strikes from eight yards out.
16'
Genoa win the first corner of the game, but Rolando rises with determination to head the cross as far away from goal as possible. Inter then have a half chance, as a poor Perin clearance falls to Palacio. The Argentine strikes from 20 yards out, but can't keep it down.
14'
MARCHESE! A very ambitious effort from the defender, who lets fly from 35 yards, but Handanovic is equal to it. The Genoa man may have wanted to test the Slovenian goalkeeper in these conditions, given the puddles which are appearing in Inter's penalty area.
12'
The rain continues to pour down, on a pitch which will probably start to deteriorate rapidly. Vrsaljko goes down heavily under a challenge from Palacio, after the Argentine threw himself into the Serbian. A slightly dangerous choice in this weather.
10'
JONATHAN! Great save from Perin! The opening ten minutes have been bright and lively, with Inter continuing to have the better of the action! The Brazilian wing-back drove into the area after being played in behind Marchese, but was denied by a reflex stop by Perin.
9'
I. Cofie gets yellow.
ANTONELLI! The wing-back has Genoa's first chance of the game, after a combination of Vrsaljko and Cofie work the ball across the pitch to the edge of the area. The Italian strikes at a bouncing ball, but scuffs it horrifically to give a throw-in to the away side.
7'
Inter's defenders haven't been afraid to drive forward in the opening minutes, with both Juan and Campagnaro pressing into the midfield third to commit Genoa players to the ball. Ricky has been floating dangerously in between the lines, but Milito is yet to be involved for the visitors.
5'
RICKY! The young midfielder is fed down the channel, getting in between two centre-halves, before unleashing an effort across Perin. The Genoa goalkeeper gets smartly down to his right to palm the strike away from the danger zone.
4'
A good start from the visitors, with Inter spreading the play well and looking to get their wing-backs in behind. The pressing continues to be intense, with neither side prepared to concede ground. Much of the early possession has been within the midfield third, but rarely further in either direction.
2'
A bright start to the game, with both sides keep to press intensely and force the opposition long whenever possible. A couple of niggling challenges in the early stages, with Rolando fouling Gilardino, and Kuzmanovic having his ankle taken from underneath him.
1'
We are underway in the first half! A warm welcome for Rodrigo Palacio in the tunnel, with the Argentine returning to his former club, but it remains to be seen as to whether the home crowd will share the players' sentiments. Inter aren't at full strength after dropping players linked with moves away from the club, but certainly aren't lacking any quality in forward areas.
Hello and welcome to live coverage of Inter's visit to Genoa, as Walter Mazzarri's men look to right their faltering form. One win in the last five games has left Nerazzurri well off the pace in Serie A, with three points required to keep their season competitive. Genoa have had similar recent fortunes, picking up merely four points out of their last 15 available.
I'm Simon Harrison, and I will be keeping you up to date with all of the action, as two out of sorts sides clash. The home side were thrashed 4-0 at the hands of Roma last week, with Inter's last three matches including a draw to lowly Chievo, and losses to Udinese and Lazio. Something has to give for Mazzarri's men this afternoon, with Inter being deemed to be in a little crisis.
TEAM NEWS: Mattia Perin starts in goal for the hosts after being rushed back from injury, with Francelino missing out through suspension. Alberto Gilardino is back from his own ban, however, and new loan signing Paolo de Ceglie is on the bench. Daniele Portanova and Alessandro Gamberini remain sidelined for Gasperini's side.
TEAM NEWS: Ex-Genoa forwards Diego Milito and Rodrigo Palacio start in attack for the away side, with Fredy Guarin starting on the bench despite returning from suspension. Ricky is preferred in behind the two strikers, as Mazzarri opts for a Argentine-heavy forward line. No place for Ranocchia in the starting eleven, as the Italian defender is replaced by Rolando.
Inter haven't managed to find a win since November, which has left the Nerazzurri floundering in fifth place, five points off the pace of Fiorentina in fourth, seeing them slowly absorbed into the chasing pack. Mazzarri's side may be performing better than their Milanese rivals, but this will be of little comfort for a club who have recently entered new ownership. Inter need a win, and fast.
With both Fredy Guarin and Andrea Ranocchia omitted from the starting line-up this afternoon, transfer speculation surrounding both players will intensift, with both being heavily linked with a move away from San Siro during the January transfer window. If things don't go according to plan, however, the Colombian midfielder could be used to change the game.
Just over five minutes until kick off, in front of a sizeable crowd. Both sides need a win to kick-start the new year, meaning that we should have a competitive and hard fought fixture on our hands. Neither outfit can afford to leave without any points, especially Genoa, given how tight the lower half of the table is becoming this season.
HALF TIME! A wet, but interesting first half! Inter have had some good chances, with Palacio and Jonathan going close on several occasions, but Genoa have had the better of general play. They've kept the ball well, but haven't quite carved out the opportunities required to really test Handanovic.
High on effort, but somewhat low on quality, as can be expected from two sides in poor form. Be sure to join us for the second half in 15 minutes, as Inter will presumably look to use Milito and Nagatomo more in the second 45 minutes. Genoa will be pleased, they've looked solid.
FULL TIME! That's Genoa's first win over Inter in Serie A since 1994, with Inter continuing to struggle in the league. The game's solitary goal from Antonelli settles proceedings with Mazzarri's men having no luck in front of goal. Poor conditions, but no complaints from Inter with regard to the outcome.
An Antonelli header was enough to settle it, with goal-shy Genoa finding the breakthrough late in the second half. The hosts have their goalkeeper to thank, after two good saves from Perin, but the win was generally deserved.
That's all that we have time for, after a soggy 1-0 Serie A win for Genoa over struggling Inter. Antonelli scored the only goal to give Gasperini the victory over his former employers. I've been Simon Harrison, and I hope to see you all again next time.
