The counterattack breaks down and there is the final whistle!
90' +2
Blind attempts to get a shot away from 25 yards but it is blocked by an Azzurri shirt and they break towards the other end.
90'
There will be two minutes of added time at the end of this half.
88'
Verratti attempts to pick out Giovinco with an audacious pass from the centre of the park but he gets it all wrong and sends it straight to Cillessen!
86'
L. Fer enters the game and replaces G. Wijnaldum.
Wijnaldum is replaced by Fer for the closing stages. The PSV midfielder put in a very mature display this evening.
84'
Manchester United fans should note Blind has been moved into the centre of midfield, where he will reportedly feature for the Red Devils. However, with his team down to 10 men there is very little he can do to help his team get back into this one.
82'
Giovinco tries to worm his way through a host of Oranje shirts at the top of the box but he is unable to do so. The loose ball falls to Verratti who attempts to flick a pass in behind for his team-mate, but they aren't on the same wavelength and Cillessen is left with an easy collection.
81'
L. Narsingh enters the game and replaces R. van Persie.
80'
OVER THE TOP! The ball is sent out to Pasqual on the left and he whips a great cross into the middle. Destro beats Cillessen to it but fails to keep his header down and sends it flying over the roof of the net.
78'
The large number of changes in the second half has done very little to raise the tempo of the game. However, they will surely want to make a lasting mark in the closing stages so perhaps we still have some drama in store.
Minute
Description
77'
S. Giovinco enters the game and replaces C. Immobile.
76'
Conte has been very animated on the sidelines all evenings and he is quick to gesticulate once more as a long pass out to Candreva on the right goes awry.
74'
M. Verratti gets yellow.
Ranocchia tries his hand at a mazy dribble into the opposing half but ends up giving it away. Sneijder is the man who picks up possession and as he looks to launch a break he is caught late by Verratti, who goes into the book for his challenge.
73'
M. Destro enters the game and replaces S. Zaza.
72'
A. Candreva enters the game and replaces M. Darmian.
G. van der Wiel enters the game and replaces D. Janmaat.
A little bit of play acting from Veltman following a tussle with Immobile brings a break to proceedings as Cillessen throws the ball out so he can receive treatment. There was minimal contact between the two so he quickly gets to his feet and continues.
71'
Bonucci clips a pass into the box for Pasqual to run onto, but Janmaat intervenes. The Italy wing-back claims for a handball but the referee clearly doesn't agree and allows play to continue.
69'
It is miles over, and it wouldn't have counted anyway! Parolo was illegaly blocking Wijnaldum from charging the free kick down after the first touch so the Dutch are awarded one of their own.
68'
Italy are awarded a free kick 30 yards from goal after a late challenge. Bonucci looks like he fancies this...
67'
M. Pasqual enters the game and replaces M. De Sciglio.
M. Parolo enters the game and replaces D. De Rossi.
66'
Oranje pass the ball around at the back but cannot find a route forward so it is sent back to Cillessen. Immobile races in to challenge the keeper who attempts a Cruyff turn and is brought down illegaly by the striker so the referee awards a free kick.
64'
Conte makes his first subsitution of the night, introducing Marco Verratti in place of Claudio Marchisio.
63'
M. Verratti enters the game and replaces C. Marchisio.
E. Pieters enters the game and replaces N. de Jong.
62'
This half has struggled to get going so far. Italy are in no rush to attack their 10-man opponents, and the Dutch themselves do not want to overcommit and become exposed to a potential counterattack.
60'
A nice move from Italy ends with Zaza dribbling into space from which he can have a go at goal. He manages to direct his shot from 25 yards on target but it is close to Cillessen and the keeper is able to dive to his left and make the save, collecting at the second time of asking.
58'
Oranje are not looking anywhere near as confident in possession in the second half. Italy have asserted themselves and now the Dutch are just trying to ping long passes up to Van Persie whenever they get to chance. Up against three centre-backs, it will be difficult to do anything with them!
56'
Bonucci! That was better from the centre-back! Rather than pass he opted to shoot from around 35 yards and boy, does he hit it! His effort arrows towards goal and has Cillessen backtracking but the keeper does well to leap up and pluck it out the sky. That could have been embarrassing, but it needed to be really special to go in from there.
54'
Following his assist for the opener Bonucci clearly fancies his chances of spraying another great pass, this time out to Darmian on the right. However, he truly overhits it and only manages to give the visitors a goal kick!
52'
A moment of madness from Sirigu as he fails to hold Sneijder's effort from 35 yards out. The ball bounced just in front of him, but there can be no excuses for not holding that. Fortunately for him he did not have an orange shirt chasing that down!
50'
VAN PERSIE!! WHAT A CHANCE! Ranocchia's headed clearance is poor and Blind immediately nods it in behind the defence for the striker. He hits the bouncing ball, looking to guide it inside the far corner but he narrowly misjudges his shot and sends it agonisingly wide.
49'
SIDE NETTING! Zaza shuffles the ball away from De Vrij and then from Janmaat, but every time he touches the ball he moves further away from goal. He manages to squeeze in a shot but he fails to test Cillessen as it only ripples the side netting.
48'
Italy have quickly settled on the ball and are using it well at the moment, playing a very simple brand of passing football. It is forcing the Dutch to race across the pitch and chase the ball, something they will be keen to avoid.
46'
We are back underway in Bari!
45' +1
There is the half-time whistle!
45'
There has been some bright link-up play in the Italy attack tonight, but this time Immobile is offside when Giaccherini angled a pass his way and so the move is brought to a premature end. Zaza had been involved beforehand, too.
Just one minute of added time will be played.
43'
An errant pass offers the Dutch the chance to break, with Sneijder passing the ball quickly up to Kuyt on the right. His touch is poor and it allows De Sciglio to race in and make a great recovering tackle to stop the attack in its tracks.
42'
Italy have managed to get on the ball and slow the tempo again, and Hiddink won't be happy about that. If they continue to just move possession simply the 10-man Oranje will find it extremely tiring to try and get it back!
40'
Good hands from Cillessen! The keeper anticipates Darmian's drilled cross from the right and gets down low, killing the pace of the ball with one hand and then bringing into his body in one movement. No chance for the Italy strikers there!
38'
Lovely from Zaza, but he is unable to make it count! He dummies Darmian pass and spins behind De Vrij to receive Immobile's subsequent through-ball. However, the imposing centre-back manages to stay close to him and stops him getting inside the area with a good show of strength.
36'
Marchisio does well in the middle before sending the ball over to De Sciglio on the left. The wing-back shifts it onto his right foot and lashes an effort at goal but it lacks the pace or direction to get the better of Cillessen, who holds it at the first attempt.
35'
That is an awful pass from Kuyt! There is confusion between De Rossi and Ranocchia, resulting in the latter kicking the former in the eye as he attempts a clearance, and the ball is sent loose. Van Persie picks it up and moves it wide to Kuyt before making a run into the box. The attempted cross from his team-mate, though, is awful and dribbles into the hands of Sirigu.
33'
Netherlands are going to need to up the tempo if they want to find a route through this compact and organised Italian defence. They are not moving the ball quick enough so the hosts are able to adjust with every pass they make.
31'
GREAT MOVE!! Italy finally manage to put together a decent spell of possession inside the Dutch half and don't they use it well! De Sciglio clips a ball in from the left and Zaza nods it in behind for Immobile. With the defender closing in he has to shoot before the ball has fully dropped and so is unable to steer it on target.
29'
Sneijder takes the corner on the far side but he only manages to flight his delivery straight into the arms of Sirigu. There was no challenge on the keeper as he came off his line to claim the ball.
27'
A pass is played back to Astori but he's down on the ground so it ends up going out for a corner kick. He seems to be feeling the effects of a collision with Bonucci after the pair attempted to keep Kuyt off the ball on the right.
26'
Netherlands have had 66% possession so far tonight! You wouldn't have thought that they were the team playing with 10 men.
24'
Good defending from De Vrij, there. He showed his strength to hold off Zaza and beat him to Giaccherini's long pass. He then reacted quickly to move it on to a team-mate so the danger could be removed.
22'
Oranje are going to have to be careful not to be caught on the counter or this could get embarrassing. Both De Vrij and Veltman went on some fairly risky runs in the moments preceding the goal, so they will need to be more reserved otherwise spaces will open for the hosts to break into.
20'
IT SHOULD BE THREE! Italy eventually steal possession from the visitors and Immobile breaks away with a great run down the left. He squares to Zaza, alone in the box, but after taking a touch he places his shot too close to Cillessen, who makes a good save.
19'
Italy are getting large numbers behind the ball when without possession and it is making it difficult for Netherlands to break them down. Blind is pushing up on the left, offering Sneijder a chance to move inside, but there just isn't the room for them to threaten.
18'
Immobile receives the ball in space by the half-way line and turns to see Zaza running towards goal. He attempts to play a pass over the top for his strike partner but he completely mishits it and De Vrij has an easy task of mopping it up.
16'
Netherlands are refusing to let the loss of a player halt them from playing type of football they did in the opening moments. They are keeping possession well and are drawing whistles from the home crowd, who clearly don't want to see their side sit back.
14'
Veltman has taken his place in the centre of defence with Sneijder moving to left midfield and Kuyt taking up position on the right. Van Persie will operate alone in attack now. It could be a long night for Oranje!
12'
J. Veltman enters the game and replaces J. Lens.
Well, that red card will force Hiddink into a change and Lens is the man to be sacrificed, with Veltman entering as his replacement. A bit of an early reshuffle for the Dutch!
10'
Penalty goal scored by D. De Rossi for Italy!
GOOOOOOAAAL!! ITALY GO TWO UP! De Rossi is given the responsibility of taking the spot kick and he saunters up casually before sliding it into the bottom corner, sending Cillessen the wrong way.
9'
B. Martins Indi goes off after a red card!
PENALTY TO ITALY! AND A RED CARD! Zaza gets in behind Martins Indi and the Porto centre-back catches him, sending him to ground. The referee points to the spot and sends the Dutchman for an early bath.
8'
OVER THE TOP! Sneijder releases Lens down the left with a great pass but the winger is forced to hold the ball up with options limited in the middle. He eventually cuts it back to Sneijder on the top of the box but his right-footed curler sails over the bar.
6'
Darmian surges down the right flank and squares the ball into the middle, looking for Zaza's run to the near post. The striker is unable to beat Martins Indi to it, though, and the danger is cleared away.
5'
Well, the Azzurri started positively and they have got their reward early on. The home crowd are audibly delighted and will want their team to consider in the same vein.
3'
C. Immobile has scored a goal for Italy! Assist by L. Bonucci.
GOOOOOOAAAL!! Immobile opens the scoring! The Borussia Dortmund striker latches onto a pass over the top of the defence, rounds Cillessen and slides the ball into the vacant net. A great start for Conte's men.
2'
Netherlands are moving the ball across the back well but are being pressed very high up the pitch by the hosts. When they move into the opposition half they are rapidly closed by a swarm of Azzurri shirts and are forced to go back the way they came.
1'
We are underway in Bari!
Hello and welcome to tonight's live text commentary on the international friendly between Italy and Netherlands. This potentially mouthwatering fixture pits new coaches Antonio Conte and Guus Hiddink, who both lead their nations for the first time this evening, head-to-head. The venue is the Stadio San Nicola in Bari and I, Tom Webber, will be guiding you through all the action.
Italy suffered a humiliating elimination from the World Cup this summer, crashing out at the group stages. Cesare Prandelli subsequently resigned and so Conte, who ended a successful spell at Juventus by resigning during the off season, takes charge of the national team for the first time this evening.
Conversely, Netherlands fought their way to the World Cup semi-final where they were finally defeated by Argentina on penalties. A 3-0 win over Brazil in the third-place play-off brought an end to Louis van Gaal's time in charge of Oranje, so tonight begins the Hiddink era.
ITALY TEAM NEWS: Giorgio Chiellini is out with a calf injury, joining Andrea Barzagli and Andrea Pirlo on the sidelines. Gabriel Paletta and Pablo Osvaldo pulled out of the squad and have been replaced by Angelo Ogbonna and Fabio Quagliarella, though neither feature in the starting XI. Simone Zaza, however, is handed a debut with the Azzurri as he joins Ciro Immobile in attack.
NETHERLANDS TEAM NEWS: Hiddink is unable to rely upon Arjen Robben, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, Rafael van der Vaart, Jordy Clasie and Ron Vlaar who have all withdrawn due to injury. The coach has therefore called Virgil van Dijk, Gregory can der Wiel and Luciano Narsingh into the squad which changes from the 3-5-2 used under Van Gaal tonight.
Italy (3-5-2): Sirigu; Bonucci, Ranocchia, Astori; Darmian, Marchisio, De Rossi, Giaccherini, De Sciglio; Immobile, Zaza.
Netherlands (4-3-3): Cillessen; Janmaat, De Vrij, Martins Indi, Blind; Wijnaldum, De Jong, Sneijder; Kuyt, Van Persie, Lens.
The last two matches between these nations both finished as a draw. Both coaches will surely be hopeful of a debut win in their new roles, but of course the most important factor will be the performance.
Oranje have only been victorious once in their last 11 meetings with the Azzurri, a 3-0 win in Euro 2008. Will their previous struggles against the Italians continue tonight?
The teams are making their way out onto the pitch now, so kick off is just a few short minutes away! Stay tuned!
HALF TIME - Italy 2-0 Netherlands: Conte could not have dreamed of a better start as Immobile sent his side into the lead after just three minutes. Things got better as in the 10th minute Martins Indi was shown a red card for a foul on Zaza inside the area, and De Rossi slotted home the subsequent penalty. Oranje have had the lion's share of possession, but the tempo is too slow and the organisation of the hosts is making it difficult for them.
Be sure to join me in 15 minutes for the second half as Hiddink will surely want his 10-man side to give the Azzurri a real test.
Welcome back! The teams are making their way back out onto the pitch so the second half will be underway shortly.
FULL TIME - Italy 2-0 Netherlands: Antonio Conte gets off to a winning start as Azzurri coach thanks to goals for Immobile and De Rossi, who scored from the spot following Martins Indi's dismissal. From then on it became more of a training ground game as the hosts saw out the result with minimal fuss.
Guus Hiddink may feel he hasn't had an opportunity to learn anything from the game having had to play the majority of it with 10 men. But the performances of De Vrij, Veltman and Wijnaldum may offer him some relief.
That is it from me, Tom Webber, for this evening. Thanks a lot for joining me!
