And we're off! Tottenham get us underway, kicking from left to right.
Good evening and welcome to our live text commentary of tonight's Europa League group stage clash between Partizan and Tottenham Hotspur. My name is Ben Cullimore and I will be keeping you up-to-date with all of the action from Stadion Partizana.
Tottenham have become a regular name in the Europa League in recent years, and tonight sees the north London club make an appearance in the group stage of the competition for the fourth consecutive time. A comfortable 5-1 win on aggregate against Cypriot side AEL Limassol in the play-offs last month helped to send them through to the group stage, where, facing Partizan, Besiktas and Asteras Tripolis, they are arguably one of the favourites to top Group C.
As for tonight's hosts, their European adventure this season started in the second qualifying round of the Champions League, where they thrashed HB Torshavn of the Faroe Islands 6-1 on aggregate, but a defeat on away goals against Ludogorets in the following round condemned them to the Europa League play-offs, with a 5-3 win on aggregate against Azerbaijani side Neftci earning themselves a place in the group stage of the competition for the second time in the last five seasons.
There's just over 15 minutes left to go until kick-off, so let's have a look at how the two teams will be lining up this evening...
Partizan XI (4-4-2): Lukac; Volkov; Vulicevic, Stankovic, Cirkovic; B. Ilic, Grbic, Drincic, S. Ilic; Pantic, Lazovic.
Tottenham XI (4-2-3-1): Lloris; Naughton, Fazio, Vertonghen, Davies; Bentaleb, Stambouli; Lennon, Paulinho, Townsend; Kane.
Tottenham substitutes: Vorm, Chiriches, Dier, Capoue, Eriksen, Lamela, Soldado.
Partizan have had a perfect start to the new Serbian SuperLiga season, winning all of their opening five games and scoring 18 goals in the process. Lazovic has scored five of those, and he starts up front for the hosts, who are without fellow in-form striker Skuletic after he picked up a red card in his side's heated 2-1 win away to Neftci last month.
As for Tottenham, manager Mauricio Pochettino has decided to make 10 changes to the side that were held to a 2-2 draw against Sunderland on Saturday, with only goalkeeper Lloris retaining his place. New captain Kaboul has been left behind in London, allowing recently-signed Fazio to make his debut in the centre of defence, whilst Davies and Stambouli have also been handed their first starts. Meanwhile, Naughton, Vertonghen, Lennon, Paulinho, Townsend, Bentaleb and Kane all come in to complete a heavily changed Tottenham starting 11.
The two teams are making their way out onto the pitch ahead of kick-off, with Partizan in their white and black home strip and Tottenham kitted from head-to-toe in yellow.
HALF-TIME: PARTIZAN 0-0 TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR
It's been a frustrating half for Tottenham, who have had the bulk of possession but have found it almost impossible to find a way past the Partizan back line. Bar Kane's early attempt that hit the crossbar, they have struggled to create any clear-cut chances, with Stankovic and Branko Ilic putting in strong and disciplined performances in the centre of defence.
At the other end of the pitch, Partizan have looked dangerous, with Lazovic and Grbic looking particularly threatening. Both Davies and Naughton have struggled when having to deal with the Serbian side's swift counter-attacks down the wing, whilst Fazio has also had a tough opening 45 minutes.
The two sides are making their way back out onto the pitch ahead of the start of the second half.
FULL-TIME: PARTIZAN 0-0 TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR
Under the circumstances, a point tonight for Tottenham seems not only a fair result but a good one. Partizan were fantastic throughout, defending resolutely whilst also causing the Tottenham back four a plethora of problems when they broke away on swift counter-attacks. Grbic was particularly impressive, and Davies struggled against him from start to finish.
At the other end of the pitch, Tottenham struggled to cause many problems for Lukac, as the central defensive duo of Stankovic and Branko Ilic proved to be too strong for the often isolate Kane. Things changed slightly when Soldado and Lamela were introduced midway through the second half, but they still seemed to lack that all-important creative spark in front of goal.
My name's Ben Cullimore and it's been an absolute pleasure describing all of the action to you. Until next time, goodbye!
