The referee has seen enough and signals for full time.
90'
Boakye is booked, and it's been coming. Since he came off the bench, he's been snapping at ankles and bundling people over. His latest infraction on Medel leads the referee to take action.
89'
R. Boakye gets yellow.
That will do it for this match. Atalanta simply don't have the time to get two goals back. They had their moments in the second half, but couldn't apply the killer touch. Inter did. Twice.
87'
Hernanes has scored a goal for Inter Milan!
HERNANES CRACKS IN THE FREE KICK! Wonderful stuff from the Brazilian! He simply curls it into the top corner, with Sportiello beaten all ends up!
86'
Osvaldo does excellently to turn away from an initial challenge, then goes on a one-on-four run against the remaining defenders. He eventually loses the ball to Carmona at the top of the box, but the referee pulls the Atalanta midfielder up for a foul.
85'
Inter are doing a good job of holding onto the ball in these late stages, but their crossing is rushed and inaccurate. The home side can't afford to be that careless, they're so close to getting over the line.
83'
Hernanes frees himself for a shot after picking up possession just on the edge of the box. He lets fly, but can't keep his shot down. He's certainly got that sort of range in his locker, just not on that occasion.
81'
Under 10 minutes to go here at San Siro, and Inter have begun to reemerge towards the end of this game. Their increased endeavour is having the added effect of keeping Atalanta off the ball and out of their own half.
79'
Medel wins the ball deep in the opposition half but having gained control, he lacks the savvy to figure out his next move. Instead, he continues straight on his trajectory towards the byline, deciding too late to cut the ball back to Osvaldo inside the area, and Benalouane cleans up.
77'
The Inter fans aren't enjoying this, as their side are hanging nervously onto this one goal lead. A rare foray forward for the hosts in this second half ends with a careless giveaway.
Minute
Description
75'
A tireless but ultimately fruitless game for Palacio ends with his replacement by Yann M'Vila. The Argentine gets a commiserative pat on the head from his manager. Osvaldo will now be up top on his own, with M'Vila adding another body in midfield in a bid to regain control over this game.
74'
Y. M'Vila enters the game and replaces R. Palacio.
M. Kovačić gets yellow.
Gomez has really been the architect of this Atalanta turnaround since coming off the bench. He cuts in from the right flank, freeing himself for a shot from the top of the box, narrowly missing the target. Atalanta are knocking on the door.
73'
G. Denis enters the game and replaces R. Bianchi.
72'
Since Palacio hit the woodwork, Inter haven't been at the races in this game. Atalanta are slowly getting into their groove in the final third. The Nerazzurri will be kicking themselves if they concede in the last 18 minutes, after all their earlier dominance.
70'
Atalanta are certainly a better side in the last few minutes. Marcelo Estigarribia comes mightily close to converting at the far post from Gomez's cross, but it flashes out agonizingly for a goal kick.
68'
Boakye has put himself about a lot in the short space of time that he's been on the field. His latest infraction is to upend Medel in midfield, and the referee is just having a word with the Ghanaian to make sure that he doesn't go overboard.
66'
Hernanes enters the game and replaces F. Guarín.
Guarin does indeed depart for Hernanes. The Colombian had an excellent game, breaking up a number of attacks and spearheading a few of his own. He even registered an assist by crossing for Osvaldo - although the ex-Juve man did most of the hard work for the opener!
65'
Guarin cracks a 30-yard effort off target to the resignation of Inter fans, who are used to seeing the Colombian take aim from random angles on the pitch. That may be his last action of the game though, as Hernanes looks set to come on.
63'
HANDANOVIC WITH A LOVELY SAVE! Gomez adds an immediate spark off the bench, cracking a 25-yarder that forces the keeper to spread to his left to parry! Is this the beginning of an Atalanta revival?
62'
Poor Palacio can't buy a goal in this game. He's been denied by the woodwork and by Sportiello twice - including once from the penalty spot. At least he's not let his head drop, as he still has the appetite to chase every ball that comes his way up front.
60'
Osvaldo has been very effective as a point man up front for the home side on every break. He's been aware of those around him, and quick to pick out the right passes to keep up momentum. His latest feed though is just about intercepted by Cherubin before it reaches Palacio.
58'
Handanovic is put under pressure for the first time in this game, as Benalouane wins a header inside the six-yard area, with the goalkeeper slow to react to a corner. He's left helpless, but can breathe a sigh of relief as the ball goes out for a goal kick.
56'
Well, I'm not quite sure how Atalanta are still in this game. They've been riding their luck since 15 minutes in when Vidic first rattled the woodwork. Can their two changes make this a more competitive contest?
54'
OFF THE POST AGAIN! The referee plays the advantage after Palacio initially won the ball on the touchline, and Inter build down the right. Palacio continues his run into the box and latches onto Jonathan's reverse ball, only to see his shot rebound off the base of the far post!
52'
It didn't take long for Atalanta to pull the trigger on their first substitutions of the match. Colantuono makes a double change, bringing on Alejandro Gomez for Marco D'Alesandro, and Boakye for Moralez. A very attacking flavour to these changes.
51'
R. Boakye enters the game and replaces M. Moralez.
P. Gómez enters the game and replaces M. D'Alessandro.
50'
Inter force another shot through Kovacic, who ends a long spell of pressure with an acrobatic attempt from 20 yards that flies about two feet too wide. He's had himself a very assured game the Croatian.
48'
No changes at the break. Inter really need to take the game to Atalanta early in the second half, in effect picking up where they left off before the half-time whistle. A goal from Atlanta could come from anywhere at any time, so the Nerazzurri need to get themselves a cushion to show for all their dominance.
46'
Here we go again!
45' +4
The referee has seen enough for one half. He signals for half time.
45' +3
Medel earns a round of applause for a quintessential hustle play. He fights off two players on the far touchline, and ends up winning the throw in for Inter. He's the kind of guy that you want in the trenches with you.
45' +1
Dodo gets himself into an advanced position down the left flank, but despite having Kovacic drifting centrally for the cutback, he elects to go for goal himself, but misses the target. Better decision making needed there from the young wing back.
44'
Mazzarri will be a happy man at the break after watching this first-half display. Inter have been in complete control of the midfield areas, with Guarin in particular looking unstoppable - despite his tunnel vision when it comes to shooting. Atalanta have a lot of work to do.
42'
Exactly what Inter deserved, that goal. They've been completely dominant for the vast majority of this half. Osvaldo has his third goal for his new club. The hosts nearly break through again, but Benalouane needs to clear for a corner to prevent Palacio from getting space for the shot.
40'
D. Osvaldo has scored a goal for Inter Milan! Assist by F. Guarín.
OSVALDO OPENS THE SCORING SPECTACULARLY! The free kick from Guarin came in from the right to the top of the box. It was hardly the most ideal height, about knee level, but that doesn't faze Osvaldo! He reacts with a stunning scissor kick to slice the ball into the bottom corner!
39'
Ranocchia goes up high to win a corner, but he's upended in the process, leading to mass appeals for a penalty. The referee does blow his whistle, but it's for a foul against Vidic, who had pushed his marker in the back during the scramble. Free kick to Atalanta.
38'
An excellent threaded pass by Guarin finds Jonathan inside the box, but within a flash, Drame is on his back. The coverage is suffocating from the left back, who succeeds in preventing the shot, instead conceding a corner.
36'
GUARIN COMES CLOSE! The Colombian is trampling all over the Atalanta midfield. He wins the ball yet again and goes storming towards goal, letting fly from 25 yards. It whistles past the far post by inches, but it looked like Sportiello's sprawling dive had it covered anyway.
34'
Inter continue to dominate the ball as of late, with even their centre backs momentarily pushed beyond the halfway line. Mazzarri won't be a happy manager if they enter the half-time interval on level terms, given the chances that they've created in this game.
32'
That's the second time in this game that Sportiello has denied Palacio. It's turning into quite the individual duel between the pair. Inter had now hit the post and missed a penalty. Somehow, this match remains goalless. Will Atlanta make the most of their good fortune?
30'
Penalty saved by M. Sportiello!
HUGE SAVE! Sportiello denies Palacio with a terrific save! He guesses correctly, diving to his left-hand side to push the Argentine's spot kick around the post! Palacio looks frustrated with that miss.
29'
Y. Benalouane gets yellow.
28'
C. Carmona gets yellow.
PENALTY TO INTER! Careless stuff from Yohan Benalouane, who bundles over Ranocchia as they both tried to latch onto a short free kick. A clear foul, the defender is booked and Palacio steps up...
26'
Icardi hasn't recovered well enough after all, and his number is held up on the sidelines. He's replaced by Osvaldo, who will slot right into the vacated role up front. Can the ex-Roma and Juventus man make something happen?
25'
D. Osvaldo enters the game and replaces M. Icardi.
Carlos Carmona nearly pays the cost of carelessness. After a sloppy giveaway to Guarin, the Nerazzurri storm forward on the breakaway, with the Colombian feeding Kovacic on the edge of the box. The Croatian's curled finish is just shy of the top corner though!
24'
Atalanta win yet another corner, after Drame's testing low cross needs an intervention from Ranocchia to stop Bianchi from making contact on the slide. However, once again, the delivery comes to nothing.
23'
Things got a little too close for comfort for Atalanta's liking recently, so at the moment's they're quite happy to pass the ball among their more defensive players to restore tranquility via possession.
21'
Icardi is back with us as Atalanta win a pair of corners in quick succession. Neither is able to trouble Handanovic though, with his defenders taking care of the danger with authority.
19'
Now Mauro Icardi needs some treatment on the sidelines, as on a previous play, he flicked the ball on the turn, only to run right into the imposing figure of Cherubin. It looks like he's just winded from the collision though, and he should be alright to continue shortly.
18'
MORE TROUBLE FOR ATALANTA! Sportiello, so static a moment ago, has to spring off his feet to push away Palacio's low drive. The Argentine had broken free of the defence to latch onto Kovacic's neat through pass. Chances coming thick and fast for the hosts.
17'
INTER HIT THE POST! The corner bounces nicely for Vidic, who leans forward to guide a header towards goal, only to see it rebound off the far post! Marco Sportiello was rooted to the spot!
16'
Inter are starting to apply the pressure now, and Dodo causes mass problems in the Atalanta penalty area with a cross that flashes menacingly across the face of goal, with Jonathan just about missing the vital connection at the far post. It's shepherded out for a corner...
14'
Guarin decides to share the wealth this time, clipping one towards the far post for Ranocchia, but the Inter skipper can't direct his header on target, despite beating his man to the ball. He needs a moment to recover too, as he looked to have taken a blow to the ribs in the process.
13'
For the second time in this game, Guarin gets his ankles nibbled near the edge of the Atalanta box, and the referee pulls up the play to award Inter the free kick. Luca Cigarini was the offender, and Stefano Colantuono will definitely be unhappy that his side are coughing up set pieces so cheaply.
11'
Boukary Drame tries to get his side back on the front foot with a cracker from all of 35 yards, but though he manages to get it on target, Samir Handanovic saw it all the way and is able to smother with no difficulty. Still, another positive moment from the visitors.
9'
Atalanta really are in the ascendancy in this game, though their next play sees them give away a careless free kick on the edge of the area. Guarin pounces on the dead-ball scenario, but he misses the bottom corner by a foot or two. Open flow to this game early on.
7'
By this point last time out, Inter were already a goal behind against Palermo. It was a mistake by Vidic early on during that game, as he was robbed by Franco Vazquez, who them proceeded to score.
5'
Atalanta get their first foray into the opposition half, and it results in a corner. Inter have some big bodies in the box to defend against set plays. Names like Nemanja Vidic and Andrea Ranocchia usually take on all comers in the air.
3'
Confident start from the home side, who are looking to attack down the left-hand side in the opening exchanges. Kovacic has shown a propensity to drift across the midfield lines, already linking up with Dodo down the flanks. The full backs are so important in Inter's formation to provide width.
1'
We're off!
Hello, and welcome to our live coverage of Inter's Serie A clash with Atalanta at San Siro. I'm Keeghann Sinanan, your designated scribe for tonight's action.
Inter have been destroying everything in their path at home recently. They plundered seven unanswered goals against Sassuolo the weekend before last and a fortnight before that, hit Stjarnan of Iceland for six in the Europa League.
Home cooking has been just what the doctor ordered for the Nerazzurri, but that incredible Sassuolo result was only their first win of the new season. They've drawn their other two matches against Palermo and Torino, leaving them already four points behind early leaders Roma and Juventus.
Atalanta sit only a point behind Inter in the standings, having recorded one win, one draw and one loss so far in the new Serie A campaign. At least they like to keep it symmetrical. That defeat came last time out on Sunday, a 1-0 reverse againt Fiorentina.
Inter have not won against Atalanta in six games. To make matters worse, their last two meetings at San Siro ended in upset victories for la Dea. Tonight's hosts will take small comfort in the fact that Giacomo Bonaventura, the man who scored both goals in Atlanta's 2-1 win at San Siro last season, is no longer at the club, having left for Milan on transfer deadline day.
Tonight's visitors will be relishing their growing reputation as Inter's bogey team. That six-match undefeated streak I mentioned before includes three wins and three draws, and stretches all the way back to April 2010.
Inter (3-5-2): Handanovic; Ranocchia, Vidic, Juan Jesus; Jonathan, Guarin, Medel, Kovacic, Dodo; Palacio, Icardi.
Hernanes was dropped over the weekend by Walter Mazzarri and he remains on the bench, despite speculation that he might be re-inserted into the starting lineup tonight. It's still a strong midfield three of Fredy Guarin, Gary Medel and Mateo Kovacic for the Nerazzurri.
Mazzarri makes three changes after the 1-1 draw against Palermo, with Jonathan and Dodo replacing Yuto Nagatomo and Danilo D'Ambrosio in both full back spots. Dani Osvaldo was expected to maintain his place in the XI, but the Southampton loanee has instead been swapped out for Rodrigo Palacio.
Ghanaian Richmond Boakye drew a blank for Atalanta against Fiorentina, so he's been dropped to the bench in favour of Maximiliano Moralez. Also stepping out of the visitors' XI is Nicolo Cherubin, who is replaced in the back four by Giuseppe Biava.
German Denis has been the tormentor-in-chief of Inter recently, with six goals in his last four games against them. That's quite a hot hand, but it's not enough to keep him in the starting lineup, as former Manchester City striker Rolando Bianchi is thrusted up front in his stead.
So we head into the break with Inter up 1-0 against Atalanta. The Nerazzurri have dominated the midfield battle and have created chances aplenty. Having already hit the post through Vidic and watched Palacio spurn a penalty, it was a golazo from substitute Osvaldo that deservedly opened the scoring for the home side.
Atalanta started well, but as time went on, they found themselves increasingly unable to string passes together in the opposition half. They did win a bevy of corners, but poor deliveries and alert defending meant that they all came to naught. La Dea need to do a lot better.
Inter were probably disappointed to hear the half-time whistle, given that they had Atalanta on the ropes for the latter stages of the opening period. It took some fine goalkeeping from Sportiello (including a splendid penalty save) to keep the deficit down to only a goal.
Professional display in the end for Inter, who close out the win thanks to a pair of wondergoals. They were on the ropes at times in the second half, but their quality shone through in the end.
Atalanta's six-game unbeaten streak against Inter ends, along with their two-match winning run at San Siro. Simply put, the visitors could not come up with the quality when required.
That's all from me. I've been Keeghann Sinanan and it's been fun!
