There is a low shot from former Arsenal man Ozyakup from 20 yards but it is straight at Lloris and that is the final action of the game as Besiktas grab what is, in truth, a deserved point.
90' +3
And now it's Besiktas that look the more likely team to go on and win the game. They have Spurs with their backs against the wall once again but Ramon's ball into the box is overhit and Lloris gathers.
90' +1
Chiriches has looked like doing something like that all night, in all honesty. It is harsh on Lloris but Besiktas never looked out of this game and Ba has been tireless in his pursuit of a goal and eventually he has been rewarded.
89'
Penalty goal scored by D. Ba for Besiktas!
GOAAALLL! Ba does it. He rolls in the penalty as cool as you like, waiting for Lloris to commit to a side and finally the French stopper is beaten. That is really unfair on Lloris, who has been outstanding tonight. But what was Chiriches thinking? Surely that is two points dropped now.
88'
V. Chiricheș gets yellow.
PENALTY Besiktas! Handball against Chiriches, he is caught out once again, allowing Mustafa Pektemek to get the wrong side - and this one could really cost his team.
86'
The pressure is mounting on the Spurs defence with a sequence of corners but Lloris is able to turn one behind before Ba heads harmlessly over from the next delivery.
84'
Besiktas are showing some nice touches to play out from the back however they are not forcing the openings they would be looking for at this stage of the game. Ba is becoming slightly more isolated in attack but it only takes one ball forward to fall into his path.
82'
K. Frei enters the game and replaces G. Töre.
Spurs are dropping deeper onto the edge of their own box now, inviting pressure from the visitors. Tore creates a good position for himself to shoot but makes the wrong decision in back-heeling for an opponent, and that is his last action of the evening as he is replaced.
80'
Here comes Adebayor in place of a sullen Soldado, who hasn't really looked like scoring tonight. Pochettino provided a staunch defence of Adebayor's performances in the lead up to this game. Will his striker repay him?
79'
E. Adebayor enters the game and replaces Soldado.
Minute
Description
77'
LLORIS DOES IT AGAIN! Ba loses Chiriches and shows great control to bring down a ball over the top with his toe before attempting to fire past the keeper from 10 yards. But Lloris stands up long enough to get a hand on it and preserve his clean sheet.
75'
There are 15 minutes to play and the gaps are beginning to appear all over the park, affording both sides opportunities to launch attacks. Spurs are still having the better of it, taking their time whenever possible, but Ba is always waiting on the shoulder of Chiriches.
73'
That's the end of Sahan's evening, which could have been so different had he taken that chance in the first minute. He is replaced by Mustafa Pektemek, who immediately heads over from a corner.
72'
M. Pektemek enters the game and replaces O. Şahan.
Another great save! This time it's Tolga Zengin in the Besiktas goal. He dives smartly down to his left to stop Kane's powerful half-volley from 18 yards after nice play down the left by Davies to get to the byline before cutting back for the goalscorer.
70'
A couple of times now Chiriches has been found wanted positionally and it is down to the other Spurs defenders, this time Dier, to bail him out with a last-ditch clearance to prevent a goalscoring opportunity.
68'
A mazy dribble from another substitue Dembele, is unceremoniously ended by Sivok. The referee tells the Belgian midfielder to get up however, and the fans, and manager, are incensed, feeling they should have had a free-kick right on the edge of the box.
66'
Changes for both sides and it is the former Arsenal man Ozyakup who is introduced for the visitors. What a night it would be for him if he could put one over on his former employers' fiercest rivals.
65'
M. Dembélé enters the game and replaces B. Stambouli.
O. Özyakup enters the game and replaces V. Kavlak.
Sahan goes close again. He splits the two centre-backs to find space in the box and is picked out by Tore's cross. Sahan comes up with an acrobatic volley that this time would have left Lloris with no chance but it finished up just wide of the post.
63'
It's getting towards the time when the manager's might look to their bench for a game-changer. Pochettino has replaced the ineffectual Paulinho with Aaron Lennon, who could profit as legs tire. But what can Bilic do in response?
61'
Besiktas come straight back at Spurs however. A ball is clipped into the box towards Ba and the striker comes up with an improvised back-flick effort in the air but it sails harmlessly wide.
60'
A. Lennon enters the game and replaces Paulinho.
And just like that it could have been 2-0 Spurs. Soldado drove at the heart of the Besiktas defence in a manner not unlike that of Ba moments earlier. He teed up Bentaleb on the left side of the box but the midfielder drags his effort wide across goal.
58'
Ba and Sahan could be forgiven for thinking this just isn't going to be their night. A couple of times they have been found off-balance when the vital touch was required but when they do fire on target, they are finding Lloris in inspired form.
56'
WHAT A SAVE! Lloris once again comes to Spurs' rescue producing a strong palm to divert Sahan's strike over the bar after Ba drew all the defenders towards him before laying off for his team-mate to shoot from 14 yards.
54'
Spurs eventually peg Besiktas bag with a prolonged period of passing and the ball reaches Townsend on the right. He cuts in once again and exchanges passes with Stambouli, but fires over on his left foot from 20 yards.
52'
The game is starting to get a bit scrappy now, which seems to be suiting the visitors as Spurs can't find their passing rhythm. The hosts just need to keep their heads and stick to their task, not get drawn into anything silly.
50'
F. Fazio gets yellow.
There is a bit of handbags in the box as Ba and Faizo get into some shoving at corner. The defender continues and is booked, before the corner, and the delivery is easily headed away when it eventually comes in.
48'
Atiba Hutchinson snaps into a challenge with Bentaleb, wins the ball, and the Spurs man is forced to pull him back and collect a booking. Besiktas waste the free-kick but demonstrate their intent to win every loose ball.
47'
N. Bentaleb gets yellow.
46'
The second half is under way and an early ball is sent into the box for Ba to control. He brings it down well but then loses his balance and Spurs are able to clear and get their first touch of the half.
45' +1
There goes the half-time whistle and Spurs withstand Besiktas' late push for an equaliser and take their lead into the break having looked in real danger of falling behind in the opening stages. Kane just came up with that bit of quality when his side needed it
45'
Tomas Sivok does well to strech and stop a through ball reaching Soldado. Roles are almost reversed now as Spurs are the team threatening on the break while Besiktas are frustrated by men behind the ball.
44'
Besiktas enjoying a bit more possession now as the half approaches its climax but they are struggling to break Spurs down as effectively as when they get out on the break.
42'
Spurs are beginning to find a bit more space between the lines of Besiktas' rigid defence and this allows them to work the ball into the wide positions for their danger men. Townsend wins another corner but Besiktas clear. Townsend whips in another ball but Paulinho can't apply the finish.
40'
Townsend's move to the right flank seems to have brought him into the game a bit more, going both ways, as he is able to tackle back and provide a bit of cover for Dier.
38'
Kane is slipped in again, this time by a nice cut in from the right by Andors Townsend. Kane fires in a powerful shot from a tight angle but the keeper saves well at his near post, as you would expect.
36'
Benjamin Stambouli was almost played into trouble in front of his back four by his defence but showed great skill to manouvere a pass out to Davies who gets Spurs moving down the left. Kane is picked out in the centre bbut his header lacks direction.
34'
But, just as I say that, Jose Sosa is the latest player to get in behind Spurs on their left and he drills a low ball across that evades a sliding Ba before Sahan directs back across goal only for Lloris to somehow turn it wide with an out-stretched trailing foot.
32'
That goal has really settled Spurs. Their passing still lacks a bit of pace but, knowing they have that vital first goal, they are patient and refusing to force the pass where it won't work, as was the case before Kane's opener.
30'
Now what impact will that have on Bilic's approach? Will his team continue with the bodies behind the ball stance they have employed since kick-off and look for chances on the break, or could this force them to play a more expansive game?
29'
Just moments before Fazio looked like losing possession in a dangerous area but Bentaleb took on the challenge and slipped a couple of tackles before finding Kane in space, cutting in from the flank. It's against the run of play but Spurs will definitely take it.
27'
H. Kane has scored a goal for Tottenham Hotspur! Assist by N. Bentaleb.
GOOOAAALLL! Out of nothing Harry Kane finds the bottom corner from 23 yards with a low left-foot after good work from Bentaleb to tee him up.
25'
Besiktas just appear to be moving the ball with more purpose than Spurs at the moment. The hosts' passing has lacked pace too, only when it reaches the flanks do Spurs look like causing problems going forward.
23'
The involvement of Spurs' full-backs Davies and Eric Dier seems to dictate how threatening their forays into the Besiktas half are. However, it is when they roam forward that the gaps appear for the visitors to break. Gokhan Tore drags his shot just wide from 10 yards after a promising run into the box from the right.
21'
Spurs appear to have recovered somewhat from that shakey start and are making inroads into the opposition half but they must be wary of Ba's pace on the break. He is looking to link up with Sahan whenever possible.
19'
Nabil Bentaleb shows some quick feet to avoid a couple of challenges on the edge of the box but the final ball is just lacking. Besiktas are not able to hold onto the ball for long periods when they win it back however and this could be a factor as the game goes on, if they are required to defend for long stretches.
16'
Davies applies some pressure deep in the Besiktas half and wins the ball back high up the pitch. It's an encouraging sign for the hosts but the full-back's cross is woefully under-hit and easily cleared.
15'
Ba is causing all sorts of problems for Chiriches at the moment. The defender is turned one way then another before Ba squares for Sahan but his touch lets him down and another opening goes begging.
13'
Ba hits the bar! Spurs are really struggling to clear their lines here and the former Chelsea man unleashes a shot on the turn from inside the box that beats Lloris but cannons back off the woodwork.
10'
Besiktas are now making their own moves forward, sharing the ball at pace when they win it back. A cross is delivered from the left but Demba Ba can't make contact and Ben Davies volleys clear.
8'
Besiktas are happy to let the hosts have possession in their own half but as soon as they cross into the visitors' territory the space is squeezed and Spurs can't find any way through. A solid start from Besiktas.
7'
B. Davies gets yellow.
6'
D. Ba gets yellow.
5'
Spurs are just trying to control a bit of possession and get into the game on their terms but Besiktas have every man behind the ball and each is sticking to his task manfully, leaving no gaps for Spurs to move the ball forward.
3'
Olcay Sahan wastes an early chance, firing wide from 18 yards when through on goal after being allowed to latch on to his own through ball, following poor defending from Fazio.
1'
German referee Manuel Grafe gives a short blast on his whistle and they're off. Spurs, in their traditional all-white strips, get us under way with the visitors, in a changed all-black kit, defending the goal in front of their vocal travelling support.
After four wins from their first four games under Mauricio Pochettino, Spurs had been struggling for form before following up a 3-1 League Cup success against Nottingham Forest last week with a 1-1 draw at rivals Arsenal on Saturday. Besiktas reached this stage after defeating Feyenoord in the qualifying round for the UEFA Champions League before being beaten by Arsenal. They are unbeaten since then, however, they have drawn three of those five matches, including Saturday’s clash with Eskisehirspor, and have struggled in front of goal of late.
TEAM NEWS: Former West Ham defender and current Besiktas boss Slaven Bilic starts Demba Ba up front. But it looks like the ex-Chelsea striker might be relying on the energy and ambition of those behind him for his service if he is to repeat the brace he scored against Spurs for Chelsea back in March. The visitors line-up in what looks like a 4-1-4-1, which appears designed to frustrate Spurs. Arsenal academy product Oguzhan Ozyakup starts on the bench.
TEAM NEWS: Pochettino continues to rotate with wholesale changes once again although Hugo Lloris continues in goal behind his 'cup centre-back pairing' of Vlad Chiriches and Federico Fazio. There is no shortage of attacking options however with Harry Kane named among three forwards behind Roberto Soldado. The manager can also call on Mousa Dembele, Erik Lamela, Aaron Lennon and Emmanuel Adebayor from the bench, if needed.
The teams are filing out on to the pitch and we are just moments away from kick-off at White Hart Lane as these two teams prepare to do battle for a victory which could kick-start their season and put them in a strong position to emerge from Group C.
Good evening everyone and welcome to tonight’s live coverage of Tottenham v Besiktas from Group C of the Uefa Europa League at White Hart Lane. Both teams drew their opening match of this year’s group stage, Spurs battling to a goalless draw with Partizan in Belgrade while Besiktas were denied victory at home by a late equaliser from Greek side Asteras Tripolis. Three points for either side will therefore make a big difference to the way the group looks by the end of tonight and we'll be here to guide you through it.
These two sides have only met once before, in the 2006-07 Uefa Cup group stage, when goals from Hossam Ghaly and Dimitar Berbatov drove Spurs to a 2-0 victory in Istanbul. Pochettino would surely love a repeat of that scoreline tonight, but can Soldado provide the firepower Spurs are looking for? We’ll find out in less than 15 minutes...
Well Pochettino's pep talk will be a lot more upbeat then it seemed it would be after the first 20 minutes. Spurs seemed to be playing into Besiktas' hands in the early stages, moving the ball slowly and leaving gaps for the counter-attack. But Kane's moment, following good work from Bentaleb, turned the tables and now it is the visitors who must come up with something special.
For Bilic, he will wonder how his team are behind but there are positives to be taken from the opening 45 minutes. Not only did Besiktas look by far the better side for 20 minutes but Ba struck the bar and it needed an incredible save from Lloris to deny Sahan, who had earlier wasted another fine opening.
Bilic has his team back out on the pitch early, waiting for Spurs, and Ba appears to be leading some sort of inquest aimed at Sahan. The Croatian coach won't have been shy in sharing his feelings at the break, let's find out whether it has the desired effect on his team.
Well what a game. Lloris looked unbeatable at times tonight and it took an error from one of his defenders to give Ba the chance to snatch something, which he gleefully accepted. Having hit the bar and been denied by at least four fantastic saves from Lloris it is difficult to say Besiktas didn't deserve something but Pochettino will be livid to have thrown away two points from that position.
That leaves Group C wide open too. The group's least-fancied team Asteras Tripolis are now the leaders following a 2-0 home win against Partizan, while Spurs and Besiktas are locked on two points from as many games. Spurs face the Greek side home and away in their next two games while Besiktas enter a double-header with Partizan.
That's all from us tonight, thanks for joining us. I hope you enjoyed the game as much as we did and we hope to have you with us again soon. Joe Hewison signing off.
