Hi, good afternoon and welcome to our live text coverage of today’s Premier League clash between Stoke City and Burnley. I’m Kyle Hancox and I will be talking you through the action at the Britannia Stadium as both sides look to build on positive wins before the international break.
Injuries to Marc Wilson and Erik Pieters have forced Stoke City manager Mark Hughes to make two changes to the side that beat Tottenham 2-1 at White Hart Lane. Wilson, who is out with a hamstring injury and Pieters, achillies, are replaced by Geoff Cameron and Marc Muniesa with Glenn Whelan and Oussama Assaidi stepping up to the bench. Mame Biram Diouf, the clubs top scorer with three goals this season, starts up front.
For the away side manager Sean Dyche makes one change to the side that picked up their first win of season last time out against Hull. Scott Arfield misses out with a calf injury and is replaced by Michael Kightly on the right side of midfield, Ross Wallace comes on to the bench. Striker Ashley Barnes who scored the goal in the 1-0 win starts upfront alongside Danny Ings.
Stoke will be looking to continue a run of home form that has seen them pick up seven points in their last three games. The Potters are currently ninth in the table after a positive start and will be looking to push higher up the table as they face the Premier League's bottom side. Burnley on the other hand could move out of the relegation zone with a win. They currently have seven points in 11 games and sit two points behind Aston Villa in 17th.
HALF TIME: Stoke City 1-2 Burnley
It's been an end-to-end opening half at the Britannia Stadium with both sides looking capable of scoring goals. Burnley flew into an early lead as Danny Ings grabbed two, to stun the home crowd. However, Stoke grew into the game the longer it went on and halved the deficit through a Jonathan Walters header.
The next goal will be vital in this game and Stoke looked the more likely in the final 20 minutes of the first half. Bojan and Moses caused the Burnley defence problems as Stoke looked to get back into the game. The away side have defended well to protect their lead and still pose a threat on the counter as Kightly and Boyd showed in the first half with dangerous runs.
The Stoke players are out early for the second half as they look to get back on level terms early on. I imagine Hughes had some choice words for his players at half time following their performance in the opening 20 minutes. However, they are definitely still in with a chance of turning this game around.
FULL TIME: Stoke City 1-2 Burnley
Despite have just 27% of possession Burnley have held on for a fantastic win. Two early goals from Danny Ings put the visitors in control but a Jonathan Walters header made it 2-1 before the break. Stoke dominated the second half as they looked for a way back in to the game. However, they rarely tested Heaton, thanks to some great defending from the rest of his side.
A second successive win for Burnley lifts them to 18th in the table ahead of Crystal Palace and QPR. Next up for Sean Dyche's side is a home game against fellow strugglers Aston Villa. Having not won in ten games they have now won two on the bounce and will be full of confidence heading in to that game as they continue to adapt to life in the top flight.
It is a poor result for Stoke and Mark Hughes will be less then happy as they go into a run of games that sees them play Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal in the next three matches. The Potters drop one place to 10th with this loss but could find themselves as low as 12th by the end of the weekend.
That is all from the Britannia Stadium as Burnley pick up their second win in a row and lift themselves off the bottom of the table. I've been Kyle Hancox and thanks for joining me for our live text coverage of this game.
