And we're off! Arsenal get us underway, attacking from left to right.
Good evening and welcome to our live text commentary of today's Premier League game between Arsenal and Newcastle United. My name is Ben Cullimore and I will be keeping you up to date with all of the action from the Emirates Stadium.
After picking up back-to-back wins against West Bromwich Albion and Southampton, Arsenal suffered another set-back last weekend when they were beaten 3-2 by Stoke City, with all three of the Potters' goals coming in a first half to forget for Arsene Wenger's men. As a result, they head into this afternoon's game with three defeats from their last five league games, leaving them in sixth place in the table and with an impressive Newcastle side breathing down their necks.
In stark contrast to Arsenal, last weekend proved to be a magical experience for Newcastle, as they became the first side to win against Chelsea in a competitive game since Atletico Madrid in April when they beat the league leaders 2-1 in a brilliant game at St. James' Park. The win, their third in their last five Premier League games, will no doubt have filled them with confidence ahead of today's game against an Arsenal side that have shown signs of weakness this season, and a victory here at the Emirates will see them leapfrog the North London side and climb up to sixth place in the table ahead of next Sunday's Tyne-Wear derby.
There's just over 15 minutes left to go until kick-off, so let's have a look at how the two teams will be lining up this evening...
Arsenal XI (4-2-3-1): Szczesny; Bellerin, Debuchy, Mertesacker, Gibbs; Oxlade-Chamberlain, Flamini; Cazorla, Sanchez, Welbeck; Giroud.
Arsenal substitutes: Martinez, Ajayi, Coquelin, Maitland-Niles, Campbell, Sanogo, Podolski.
Newcastle United XI (4-2-3-1): Alnwick; Janmaat, Coloccini, Williamson, Dummett; Tiote, Colback; Gouffran, Perez, Ameobi; Cisse.
Newcastle United substitutes: Woodman, Haidara, Anita, Vuckic, Armstrong, Riviere, Cabella.
Arsene Wenger has made made three changes to the Arsenal side that started the 3-2 defeat against Stoke last weekend, with Wojciech Szczesny, Mathieu Debuchy and Danny Welbeck all returning to the starting line-up to replace Damian Martinez, Callum Chambers and Aaron Ramsey, respectively.
Meanwhile, Newcastle boss Alan Pardew has made four changes to the side that won 2-1 against Chelsea in their last Premier League outing, with Rob Elliot, Steven Taylor, Remy Cabella and Moussa Sissoko making way for Jak Alnwick, Mike Williamson, Yoan Gouffran and Papiss Cisse.
The two sides are making their way out onto the pitch, with just a few minutes to go until kick-off.
HALF-TIME: ARSENAL 1-0 NEWCASTLE UNITED
It's been a very good opening 45 minutes for Arsenal, despite the fact that Newcastle have slowly but surely got themselves back into the game after an encouraging display in the final 15 minutes of the half. Sanchez has been superb, linking up well with Giroud on several occasions, which was evident when the hosts took a well-deserved lead after just 15 minutes, but, to the visitors' credit, they have fought back extremely well, and Alan Pardew will be confident about their chances of finding that all-important equalising goal if they are able to start the second period in a similar fashion to the way that they finished the first.
The two teams are making their way back out onto the pitch ahead of the start of the second half. Neither side have made any substitutions during the half-time break.
FULL-TIME: ARSENAL 4-1 NEWCASTLE UNITED
Arsenal record a badly needed win that not only takes some of the pressure off Arsene Wenger but also moves them equal on points with fifth-place Southampton ahead of next weekend's clash against Liverpool. Despite Newcastle's best efforts, they fully deserve the win after a fantastic performance all-round, particularly from Sanchez, Giroud and Cazorla, who caused the Newcastle back four plenty of problems from start to finish.
As for Newcastle, their second defeat in their last four league games leaves them in seventh place in the table, although they could drop as low as ninth depending on tomorrow's results. They go on to face Sunderland next weekend in what is sure to be a fierce and exciting clash.
My name is Ben Cullimore and it's been an absolute pleasure describing all of action to you this evening. Until next time, goodbye!
