120' +7
BAYERN ARE THROUGH TO THE SEMI-FINALS! As cheeky as it gets from Thiago, who arguably should have been sent off in the 90th minute! He rolls it just off to the right and sends Leverkusen packing!
120' +6
NOT OVER YET! It's the perfect penalty from Calhanoglu, blasting it into the top corner, while sending Neuer the wrong way.
120' +5
GOTZE SCORES! Leno came very close to keeping that one out, but Gotze sneaks it in and Leverkusen must score now to stay alive!
STRAIGHT DOWN THE MIDDLE! Castro takes a risk but it pays off big time as Neuer dives to his left. Bayern lead 3-2 after three rounds.
Minute
Description
120' +4
THE VET RESTORES THE LEAD! Alonso walks up cool as a cucumber and slots it low and into the corner, sending Leno the wrong way.
120' +3
NO DOUBT ABOUT THAT! Leno guesses wrong and Lewandowski fires it into the top corner. Bayern lead 2-0 and this is a massive kick coming up for the hosts...
AS CALM AS YOU'D LIKE! Bender puts it in the exact same spot as Lewandowski, and this time Neuer guesses wrong. Leverkusen are back within one.
120' +2
NEUER SAVES! Drmic steps up first for the hosts but he leaves it a bit too close to the centre, allowing Neuer to stretch out and fist it away! Great goalkeeping!
120' +1
PERFECTLY PLACED! Muller steps up first for Bayern, and though Leno guesses the right way, the striker places it just inside the post to give the visitors the early lead.
120'
IT'S ALL OVER! Well, not quite yet... as we are headed now to a penalty shootout!
Remember, Leverkusen lost their most recent penalty shootout - and it was a heartbreaking one at that - against Atletico in their Champions League round of 16 tie. Can they exorcize those demons?
Bayern, meanwhile, have not been involved in a penalty shootout since their defeat to Chelsea in the 2012 Champions League final.
119'
ABYSMAL EFFORT! Drmic does brilliantly to hold the ball up just inside the attacking half and play a tremendous ball through for Brandt on the right. The winger breaks into the area and the crowd roars in anticipation, but the end result is such a letdown as he lifts his shot well over the bar!
117'
H. Badstuber enters the game and replaces J. Boateng.
T. Jedvaj gets yellow.
Meanwhile, it's all boiling over here! Something must have happened behind the play as a cluster of players from both teams come together and get after one another. Tempers are starting to flair with penalties approaching, and it looks like yellow cards will be handed out to Papadopoulos and Jedvaj, who had a few choice words from the bench - though I'm not so sure who they were aimed at!
116'
K. Papadopoulos gets yellow.
T. Müller gets yellow.
115'
THUNDEROUS DRIVE! Bernat gets on the end of a quick-passing move and unleashes a terrific shot at the near post, but Leno gets his hands up to make the save.
114'
Penetrating play, but no end result! That has been the story for much of the night for Leverkusen. Brandt does well on the left to get into space and deliver in a cross. He picks out Castro at the top of the area, but the attacker's half-volley is sent well wide of the far post.
112'
STAT ATTACK: Bayer Leverkusen have lost just one of their last six home meetings against Bayern Munich, a 2-1 defeat in March 2013 (W2, D3).
110'
Headed over! The hosts win a free kick on the right from 35-yards out. Calhanoglu delivers and picks out Drmic in the centre, but the striker scuffs his contact and sends his header over the bar.
108'
Exhaustion is beginning to set in as play becomes increasingly sloppy. The ball is being contained largely in midfield and possession is being squandered far too cheaply.
106'
It's no more than a 90 second break for these two teams before the second half of extra time gets underway. A quick stretch and gulp of water and we are back!
105'
The deadlock has yet to be broken as the referee sounds his whistle to bring an end to the first half of extra time.
104'
Ö. Toprak gets yellow.
Toprak picks up a yellow and it is a bit of a careless one as he lunges into the side of Muller in an attempt to win the ball back at the halfway line. That's much too far away from his own goal to be picking up a caution at this stage of a match.
103'
Into the dying stages of this first half of extra time and the pace is really starting to pick up. Tired legs have made for a few sloppy errors, as both sides have found a bit more space in attack. Still no breakthrough, however, as we approach the final 15 minutes.
101'
JUST TOO HIGH! Muller has really come to life as this match has gone on, which is a real testament to the striker's physical attributes. He links up well with Bernat and beats a defender before curling a cross just a fraction to high for Lewandowski to get on the end of.
99'
H. Çalhanoğlu enters the game and replaces S. Rolfes.
Leverkusen boss Roger Schmidt has made his last change of the match and it is a positive one. Hakan Calhanoglu is the one to come on and he should provide a much greater attacking threat, with the more defensive-minded Rolfes giving way.
97'
SIDE NETTING! Tremendous play by Muller to hold the ball up inside the area before sliding a ball through for Rafinha on the right. The wing-back sends a magnificent cross in to the far post, but Gotze's sliding effort is sent just wide of the post from a near identical spot to where Brandt missed from just 10 minutes ago.
95'
Clever idea! Bayern nearly find their breakthrough and it comes at the end of their best passing move of the night. Muller and Gotze link-up well, before the striker works a one-two with Lewandowski. Papadopoulos intervenes at the vital moment, however, to knock the return pass away from harm.
93'
Bayern are awarded a questionable corner and it only adds more fuel to the fire already lit under these home fans, who feel the visitors should be down to 10 men. The corner results in nothing, however, as Leno rushes off his line to claim it.
91'
Extra time is officially underway!
90' +6
That's it! The corner is cleared and we are headed for extra time!
90' +5
Bellarabi is trying to will his side to victory here in the dying moments! He's covering every blade of grass in search of a late winner and he nearly finds one as his shot deflects just wide for a corner.
90' +4
J. Drmić enters the game and replaces S. Kießling.
90' +3
Thiago Alcântara gets yellow.
DREADFUL CHALLENGE! Kiessling jumps to keep a ball in play near the touchline and head it back into the centre. Thiago arrives and lunges in with a ridiculously high boot, getting his cleats into the face of the striker whose night appears to be done. The referee shows a yellow card only, prompting a massive roar of disapproval from the home supporters.
90' +1
THAT WAS THE CHANCE! That had to be the winner! Another giveaway in midfield presents the chance for Leverkusen to break. Bellarabi has so much pace and is proving near impossible to stop. He gets into space and plays a tremendous ball across the face of goal that Neuer can't get to. Brandt arrives at the far post but he slides in a fraction too late and knocks the ball wide!
90'
K. Papadopoulos enters the game and replaces E. Spahić.
WAIT A MINUTE! We may not be destined for extra time just yet. The fourth official has put up the board, indicating there will be five minutes of stoppage time.
88'
Bayern are controlling possession with the clock winding down. They are building patiently in attack, but it's all too innocent from them. They're showing little intent to try and carve open the Leverkusen defence in search of a dramatic, late winner.
86'
Extra time surely beckons now. Both teams are down a man with Spahic and Gotze off recieving a bit of treatment. Neither are serious, in fact it looks like they each may be issues with taping around the ankle. The pace has slowed again and these players appear to be waiting for extra time.
84'
STAT ATTACK: Bayer Leverkusen have kept clean sheets in each of their last six domestic matches (league and cup), all of which resulted in victories. The last time they conceded a goal against German opposition was back on February 21, a 2-2 draw away to Augsburg.
82'
Look at the passion! With less than 10 minutes remaining, you can cut the tension inside the stadium with a knife! A ball is played over the top for Muller and he tries to run onto it, but Leno arrives to punch clear just ahead of the striker before the duo collide hard inside the area.
80'
Bernat tries to atone for his mistake, sprinting down the left flank in possession. He tries to pick out Lewandowski with an early cross, but Wendell, who continues to defend admirably, makes up ground and heads it behind well for a corner.
78'
NEUER HAS IT AGAIN! A careless giveaway in midfield by Bernat presents Bellarabi with a chance to break. The winger takes on Dante and has two teammates making runs to his left, but opts to go at it on his own. He nudges the ball onto his right and drives a shot across goal, but Neuer looks so comfortable in making the save!
76'
The crowd is getting loud again as we enter the final 15 minutes. The hosts have played a wonderfully disciplined match and they are sensing this could be a special occasion. Extra time and possibly penalties still beckon, however, as we continue to await the first goal.
74'
Play has yet to resume following the injury, with Spahic only just up from the ground. He's receiving plenty of attention from the medical staff, and as previously mentioned, you can never be too sure with head injuries. He walks off under his own power, however, so if Wendell can still play it would be a surprise to see Spahic's night end.
72'
The pace has fizzled out yet again, following the two glorious chances at both ends. Play is halted as Bayer have another player go down after a clash of heads, this time Spahic feeling the effects of a collision with Muller. The Leverkusen centre-half has been a top performer tonight and they can ill-afford to lose him.
71'
Dante gets yellow.
70'
STAT ATTACK: Bayern Munich are looking to win their third consecutive DFB-Pokal title, a feat which has never been accomplished in the history of the competition. They have won eight times (out of 15) since the turn of the century.
68'
Thiago Alcântara enters the game and replaces P. Lahm.
Bayern are going to go for it now, and in order to do so they need an added threat in attack - cue the introduction of Thiago Alcantara. The Spaniard becomes Guardiola's second change, replacing Lahm.
66'
LENO MATCHING NEUER SAVE FOR SAVE! Bayern mount a counter attack of their own and it nearly results in an opener! Muller gets into a threatening position atop the area and lays it off for a wide-open Lewandowski. The striker surely has to score from there, but Leno sticks out a leg and turns it over the bar! Absolutely sensational from the Bayer keeper!
64'
REMARKABLE STOP! The best keeper in the world is at it again! A superb attacking move sees Bayer carve through the heart of the Bayern defence. Bellarabi and Brandt work a lovely one-two, and the former takes a return pass and hits a first-time shot at goal, but Neuer makes himself big and manages to keep it out! Spectacular goalkeeping!
62'
BAYERN SCORE BUT IT WON'T COUNT! It's a horrendous decision by the referee who calls a foul on Lewandowski for a push in the back of Spahic, but there was minimal, if any contact made! The striker did well to run onto the end of Lahm's corner and sent a thumping header into the top corner.
60'
STAT ATTACK: Bayer Leverkusen needed penalties and extra time to win their last two DFB-Pokal matches and advance to the quarter-finals, defeating Magdeburg (fourth division) and Kaiserslautern (second division). We could be headed for a similar fate tonight, barring a breakthrough in the last 30 minutes.
58'
Well I can't believe my eyes! Wendell looked like he didn't know where he was for a brief moment after the collision and required a stretcher to get off the pitch. BUT, he's up and back on the touchline now, ready to re-enter the match. Perhaps it was worse than it looked, but with head injuries is it really worth the risk?
56'
Worrying moments for Leverkusen as Wendell, who has been superb tonight, goes down after a clash of heads in midfield with Lahm. The left-back smacked his forehead off the top of the Bayern midfielder's head and appears to be out cold here as the stretcher comes on. His night is undoubtedly done, but hopefully for his sake it isn't any worse than that.
54'
Well that sums up Bayern's night! Following the corner, they break with pace on the counter. Lewandoski gets it in space and should have got a shot on goal, but can't get the ball to sit for him, so he plays it across for Gotze, who also fails to get his footing right, before the ball is finally cleared.
52'
Crafty build-up play from the hosts as the ball is worked through midfield en route to Castro. The attacker finds a pocket of space atop the area and drives a shot at goal, but Rode does very well to slide in and block it behind for a corner.
50'
L. Bender gets yellow.
Bayern win a free kick from 40-yards out and commit their big men forward from the back in an attempt to cause havoc in the penalty area. The ball is then inexcusably played short before the eventual cross in is poor and ushered safely behind by Spahic.
48'
GOOD HIT! Dante slides in to try and intercept a pass, but Bellarabi manages to flick it on just in time, leaving the centre-half out of position. Brandt picks it up and drives forward, trying his luck from 25-yards out, but his curling effort sails just over the bar.
46'
The second half is underway!
45' +1
EXCEPTIONAL TECHNIQUE! Bayer issue a late warning to Bayern, again exploiting space along the flanks. Brandt makes a good run into space and his cross to the far post is met by Bellarabi, who unleashes a volley at goal. It's great technique from the winger to make clean contact there, but his effort lifts over the bar as the first half comes to an end.
44'
Kiessling picks up a knock and goes down at the halfway line, but he appears to be alright. In the meantime, Pep Guardiola picks up the ball and shows off his dribbling skills - basketball, that is - before taking a jump shot to give the ball back to the referee. He lets out a big smile and the fans cheer about as loud as they have all half.
43'
In a match like this, with so few chances being created by either side, those that do come to fruition have got to be taken! It is uncharacteristic of Muller to miss those, and it's a wasted opportunity for Bayern to snatch the lead right before half time. That would have been very harsh on Bayer, so credit to Leno for keeping this match scoreless.
41'
STAT ATTACK: These two teams last met in the DFB-Pokal in March 2009, also in the quarter-finals. Leverkusen ended the night as 4-2 victors, with goals from Tranquillo Barnetta, Arturo Vidal, Patrick Helmes and Stefan Kiessling.
39'
STUNNING SAVE! It took close to 40 minutes but we finally have our first shot on target! Bernat's cross in from the left finds Muller at the far post. The striker brings it down with a superb first touch, but Leno gets across to not only make a spectacular save, but prevent a rebound as well!
37'
It looks as though Xabi Alonso has taken Benatia's spot in the back three, with Rode assuming his regular position as a defensive midfielder. Bayern are dominating possession here, but the majority of it is coming back in their own end, with Neuer seeing more of the ball then their two strikers.
35'
Pep Guardiola is jumping up and down on the sidelines trying to spark some energy into his side. It has been an extremely dull first half and there are no signs of it changing at the moment. A goal would do wonders to help liven things up.
34'
S. Rode enters the game and replaces M. Benatia.
33'
Medhi Benatia has picked up a knock and he may not be able to continue. The last thing Pep Guardiola needs is another injury, and you can see the stress this causes him as he rubs his face in despair. It looks like Sebastian Rode is preparing himself to come on to replace the injured centre-half.
31'
Past the half-hour mark now and still no shots on target for either team. With the exception of a few back-passes, Bernd Leno and Manuel Neuer have been starved of action. It's a compliment to the back lines, but hardly entertaining for the fans that took time out of their week to make the trip.
29'
The visiting fans have made the trip in numbers, and their vocal duel with the home supporters ahead of the match made for a wonderful atmosphere. It has quieted down a great deal since then, however, and the Bayern fans especially are growing a bit restless. This is not the team they are used to watching.
27'
Leverkusen have undoubtedly been the better team in transition. Bayern have been far too negative in possession, while Muller and Lewandowski have been starved of service. The hosts are doing an excellent job of opening up space with their runs off the ball, but the final pass has not been there as of yet.
25'
STAT ATTACK: Bayern Munich have won 15 consecutive matches in the DFB-Pokal, keeping nine clean sheets over that span, while outscoring their opponents 52-7. Their last defeat in the competition was against Borussia Dortmund, in the 2012 finals.
23'
WONDERFUL DEFENDING! A Bayern corner falls kindly to Muller near the far post. He tries to volley it back into the centre, but Wendell flings himself in front of it to stop the cross from going through, then gets in the way of the follow-up shot. Bellarabi looks to break quickly on the counter and covers plenty of ground to get into a shooting position, but blasts his effort well over the bar.
21'
Bayern are missing many key players tonight, but arguably the most under the radar absence is that of David Alaba. The Austrian has scored in all three of Die Roten's cup matches this season and his versatility would prove vital in these difficult times.
19'
SPLENDID CHALLENGE! Julian Brandt makes a lovely run off the ball to open up the Bayern defence and Castro picks him out with a clever through ball. The winger breaks into the area and has a look at goal, but Dante slides in with the tidiest of challenges to knock the ball behind for a corner.
17'
Bayern seem insistent on building through the middle, but Leverkusen have been more than up to the task in midfield. Rafinha and Juan Bernat have offered good outlets on the flanks, but Die Roten seem reluctant to move it out wide. The lack of width has really prevented them from creating anything in attack thus far.
15'
Leverkusen have done most of the running up to this point and have looked the sharper side without question. Bayern hardly look up for the occasion and they are starting to pay for it. Roberto Hilbert makes a good run down the right to link up with Karim Bellarabi, before crossing it in for Stefan Kiessling, but the striker sends his header over the bar.
13'
APPEALS FOR A PENALTY DENIED! Leverkusen mount the first dangerous attack, and it's quite encouraging from their standpoint. Wendell on the overlap gets behind the Bayern defence and plays a lovely cutback ball into the centre. Gonzalo Castro runs to get onto the end of it but goes down following a slight coming together with Philipp Lahm. Contact was minimal, however, and the referee is having none of it.
11'
Over 10 minutes gone now and we still await the first attempt at goal. There has yet to even be a threatening attack posed by either side, with the match adopting a bit of a sluggish pace here at the start.
9'
STAT ATTACK: Bayer Leverkusen have not won the DFB-Pokal since 1993. They have reached the finals twice since then – in 2002 and 2009 – but were defeated both times by Schalke and Werder Bremen respectively.
7'
Leverkusen's back line has looked very comfortable in the early stages of the match. Bayern have tried to play plenty of long balls forward from the back, to either Thomas Muller or Robert Lewandowski, but the hosts are sniffing everything out and dealing with it confidently.
5'
Neither side has managed to do much of anything in possession through the first five minutes. The match has something of a sloppy feel, with the ball bouncing an unusual amount, making for some rather untidy moments in midfield. There is plenty at stake so it could take a bit of time for the game to spring to life!
3'
It has been a cagey start to the match, with possession being squandered often by both teams in midfield. Bayern have seen a greater share of the ball but have yet to poke and probe their way into the attacking third.
1'
We are underway at the BayArena! Bayern are in white, attacking right to left. Leverkusen are sporting their all red home strip. Here we go!
Hello football fans around the world and welcome to Germany! The BayArena is our venue today, as Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich do battle in the DFB-Pokal, with a place in the semi-finals on the line. I am Alex Moretto and I will be your in-game host, guiding you through the match LIVE as it happens!
Bayern still have every chance at the treble, but need a victory at the always noisy BayArena today to keep that dream alive. They have the Bundesliga title close to wrapped up, while they are in the quarter-finals of both the Champions League and DFB-Pokal. While a treble would certainly be a fantastic accomplishment for Die Roten, it seems to be more of an expectation than a possibility amongst the players and fans alike in Munich.
Leverkusen find themselves in a heated battle for the Bundesliga’s third and final automatic qualification spot for the Champions League. They will have to be in fine form through the season’s final seven games if they are to secure a top three finish, while the DFB-Pokal is their only remaining chance to win a trophy. It has been a long wait – 1993 to be exact – since Bayer’s last league cup triumph, but a victory today would be a big boost to their title hopes.
Roger Schmidt has kept his team fairly in tact as well, keeping the same midfield and attack following a 4-0 thumping of Hamburg on the weekend. The hosts have made two changes to their back line, however, with Roberto Hilbert replacing Tin Jedvaj at right-back and Emir Spahic slotting in at centre-half in place of Kyriakos Papadopoulos.
Pep Guardiola has made just one change to his starting XI, following their 1-0 victory away to Borussia Dortmund on the weekend, with Mario Gotze replacing Bastian Schweinsteiger - who picked up an ankle injury - in midfield. He should help provide a greater attacking threat from the centre of the pitch, with Philipp Lahm and Xabi Alonso able to do more of the dirty work. Die Roten have a long injury list and their bench is weaker as a result, so extra time could work against them in this cup match.
It's a match worthy of a cup final, but one of these heavyweights will be packing their bags by the end of the night. This promises to be a highly entertaining, closely-contested match, and it gets underway in just a minute!
HALF TIME: LEVERKUSEN 0-0 BAYERN. We end the first half as we started, and the scoreline hardly looked in jeopardy of changing to be quite honest. It's been a tense and cagey first 45 minutes at the BayArena, which will hopefully change in the second frame after the coaches make their half-time adjustments.
Well what an eventful evening this was at the BayArena! It certanly was not the most entertaining of matches, but it picked up as time wore on and what better way to finish it off than with the drama of the penalty shootout?
I am Alex Moretto and I would like to thank you all for joining me here today. Good bye!
