44'
Once again, Uruguay push forward in numbers but just can't seem to penetrate the Jamaica back line. The ball then falls at the feet of Gimenez, who unleashes an audacious 35-yard effort that, unsurprisingly, sails well over the top of the crossbar.
43'
Cavani goes close again! Maxi Pereira stops the ball from going out for a goal kick before teeing up the Paris Saint-Germain striker with a volleyed cut-back, but the forward's acrobatic scissor kick ends up flying a few yards wide of the near post.
41'

Mattocks is barged to the ground by Godin just outside of the Uruguay penalty area, resulting in a free kick for Jamaica in a very dangerous position. Austin steps up and curls a low cross that is poorly hit and, once again, fails to beat the first man.
20'
Nervy moments at the back for Uruguay! Godin spends far too long on the ball deep inside his own half of the pitch, allowing Mattocks to muscle him off the ball before Barnes joins in and earns Jamaica a throw-in. That easily could have gone horribly wrong for the reigning champions.
18'
Cavani embarks on a blisteringly quick run forward before unleashing a low strike from the edge of the penalty area that is deflected out of play for a throw-in on the left wing. Uruguay keep the pressure firmly exerted on Jamaica but the latter are just about able to deal with the danger before clearing the ball back towards the halfway line.

3'
Jamaica embark on an impressive attack down the right flank, with Mattocks doing well to muscle his way towards the edge of the penalty area. McCleary then twists and turns just outside of the Uruguay box before trying to set up Dawkins, but his through-ball is slightly overhit and can only find Muslera at the near post.

And we're off!
Good afternoon and welcome to our live text commentary of today’s Copa America clash between Uruguay and Jamaica. My name is Ben Cullimore and I will be keeping you up to date with all of the action from Estadio Regional Calvo y Bascunan.
Reigning champions Uruguay kick-start their title defence against a Jamaica side making their first appearance in the competition, but, despite coach Oscar Tabarez’s claims that this team is just as strong as the one that won four years ago, they are without several high-profile players. Luis Suarez and Diego Forlan, both of whom scored in the 3-0 final victory against Paraguay, are unavailable due to suspension and international retirement, respectively, whilst Diego Lugano, Sebastian Abreu and Martin Caceres are all injured. As a result, the pressure is on Paris Saint-Germain forward Edinson Cavani to deliver against a Reggae Boyz side with a point to prove.
Alongside Mexico, Jamaica are one of the two invitees to this edition of the tournament, making their first appearance in the competition after impressing at last year’s Caribbean Cup. Whilst Winfried Schafer’s side are arguably the underdogs in Group B, which also includes Argentina and Paraguay, they are in good form at the moment, winning all of their last five games, including a 2-1 win at home to Venezuela in March. They have also triumphed against Uruguay before, albeit 11 years ago when goals from Onandi Lowe and Jermaine Johnson helped them to a 2-0 victory against La Celeste in Kingston.
There’s just over 15 minutes left to go until until kick-off, so let’s have a look at how the two teams will be lining up this afternoon…
Uruguay XI (4-4-2): Muslera; M. Pereira, Gimenez, Godin, A. Pereira; Sanchez, Arevalo, Lodeiro, Rodriguez; Rolan, Cavani.
Uruguay substitutes: Fucile, Hernandez, Stuani, Munoz, G. Silva, Corujo, Coates, Gonzalez, Rodriguez, M. Silva, G. Pereira, De Arrascaeta.
Oscar Tabarez has decided to name an unchanged Uruguay side to the one that started the 5-1 thrashing of Guatemala last weekend, whilst Jamaica boss Winfried Schafer has made five alterations to the team that won 3-0 at home to Cuba in March, with Dwayne Kerr, Michael Hector, Jobi McAnuff, Simon Dawkins and Garath McCleary coming into the squad to replace Ryan Thompson, Daniel Gordon, Je-Vaughn Watson, Romeo Parkes and Joel Grant.
The two sides are making their way out onto the pitch, with just a few minutes to go until kick-off.
HALF-TIME: URUGUAY 0-0 JAMAICA
Uruguay will not be happy with how that first half went, as Jamaica were arguably the better of the two sides from start to finish. The Reggae Boyz have defended incredibly well, keeping La Celeste at bay with resolute defending, whilst they have also impressed whenever they have been able to push forward, with Barnes, McAnuff and Mattocks looking dangerous in front of goal. Things need to change if Oscar Tabarez's side are going to find a way back into this clash in the second period.
The two teams are making their way back out onto the pitch ahead of the start of the second half. Neither side have made any substitutions during the half-time break.
FULL-TIME: URUGUAY 1-0 JAMAICA
Despite coming away with all three points, Oscar Tabarez will no doubt be disappointed with the way in which his players performed today. They were arguably second best to an impressive Jamaica team for the majority of the game and are only able to leave with a victory thanks to an instinctive close-range strike from Rodriguez. The Reggae Boyz will feel hard done by, and rightly so, after putting in such a strong and admirable performance at both ends of the pitch.
Uruguay now go on to face the 2011 runners-up Paraguay on Tuesday, whilst Jamaica are in action against the favourites Argentina later that same evening.
My name is Ben Cullimore and it's been an absolute pleasure describing all of the action to you today. Until next time, goodbye!
