And there it is! The USA wins Group A. It may not have been pretty, but a win is a win in the Gold Cup. 1-0 your final.
90' +3
That just may do it. Nazon heads out for a goal kick, and there can't be much time left.
90' +2
Late, late danger and Johnson has to clear his lines. Good effort from Haiti, still fighting to try and get something out of this.
90' +1
We're into the three minutes of stoppage time.
90'
Norde with a decent effort that Guzan is forced to keep out, but Haiti has been largely limited to long shots in the late going.
89'
More from Zardes.. He got in behind there, really nice ball to find him, but he takes it out of play as he rounds the keeper.
87'
Zardes again tries to get to the end line and cuts it back, but the pass is cut out.
86'
Zardes, now playing up top, is still finding space down the left.
84'
The U.S. being forced to defend again. I've been very impressed with the counterattack this Haiti side brings.
83'
K. Beckerman enters the game and replaces A. Jóhannsson.
S. Nordé enters the game and replaces R. Goreux.
Minute
Description
82'
Klinsmann bringing on Beckerman to try and salt this away. Johannsson coming off.
80'
Brad Evans has put in a very decent shift at right back. Jurgen may be getting some answers for the rest of the Gold Cup just on comparing tonight and the Honduras match.
79'
Louis takes a hit, and it's going to take something special to beat Guzan from there.
76'
This is getting kind of fun. Dempsey with some brilliant play to set Zardes free, then to set up a half chance on Johannsson, who went for the bike and just missed the clipped cross.
74'
Guerrier with a wild shot after taking on Evans.
72'
Another nice move from Haiti. Jaggy down the left plays a very dangerous ball across the face of goal, but a foul on the back post is called as the attacking player went through his defender.
71'
S. Thuriere enters the game and replaces K. Lafrance.
70'
Ream has a foul called on him. The USA still far from safe here. Haiti has looked very dangerous, but the U.S. has largely dominated the run of play in the second half.
68'
Johannsson in for Dempsey! Nope! Just high, over Dempsey's head as he tried to flick it over the keeper.
67'
F. Johnson enters the game and replaces G. Garza.
Garza taken off. Johnson coming on to deal with this final quarter or so of the game.
66'
J. Louis enters the game and replaces J. Maurice.
65'
Garza has had a tough night. Guerrier has just been a force on the right for Haiti.
63'
Guerrier again with the head! Just wide. Wow. He beat Garza to the ball, but the defender did enough to make it tough and the shot is wide of the mark.
62'
D. Nazon gets yellow.
61'
Nazon showing some frustration. Took a challenge on Evans and is called for a foul, then smashed the ball into the side boards. Silly.
60'
Another nearly moment for Haiti. Guerrier went way up to win a header but Garza did enough to put him off. Guerrier is down on the ground after the fact, and the USA breaks the other way only to see a Zardes header behind for a goal kick.
59'
Johannsson draws a foul. Dangerous spot for Haiti. Bradley likely to give it the service, and it's a similar spot from the Honduras match when Dempsey scored, but this one is cut out.
57'
GUZAN! He's come up huge for the USA. Nice break from Haiti and Nazon was in free and clear, but Guzan came out, made himself large and made a massive stop to keep it 1-0.
55'
Nice hit from Diskerud, and the save is made with no rebound. Zardes is giving Haiti fits out on the wing. More good work from the USA, and this is more what you would have expected from one of the Gold Cup favorites.
54'
Johannsson just playing the shoulder of the defender, but once again he's caught offside.
52'
Dempsey pulled down near midfield. USA looks sharp and has some width, which I think has been key to the shift in the run of play.
51'
USA trying to get in the attack again but Johannsson was caught offside.
50'
So Dempsey gets his third of the Gold Cup and the USA's third as well. A 1-0 lead is far from comfortable, but Zardes came right on the pitch and made a play. Halftime change is already paying off in a big way.
47'
C. Dempsey has scored a goal for United States! Assist by G. Zardes.
The USA gets on the board early, and look who it is! Dempsey with the finish, and Zardes set him up after just coming into the game.
46'
G. Zardes enters the game and replaces J. Altidore.
Second half is under way
45' +1
That should be just about it for the first half. We're still 0-0.
45'
Soft foul given for Haiti. Garza was trying to press the ball and it looked like dive. Either way, Haiti gets to work it out.
43'
Much better. Dempsey and Bradley combine in midfield, with Bradley playing for Johannsson's head at the back post. Header back across is just behind Dempsey.
41'
Haiti making life tough on the U.S. Some better ball movement ends with an Altidore shot after Dempsey is taken down at the top of the box.
40'
Dempsey tries to play in Johannsson, who goes to ground trying to win it and commits a foul.
39'
Bradley with a shot. Not a good shot, but a shot. There really isn't much going right for the U.S. right now.
35'
What an odd run of play. First, Diskerud is just taken out in midfield after breaking up a counter. Bradley picks it up and breaks forward, plays in Altidore who... I don't know what he was doing to be honest. But in the long run, Johannsson gets on the end and finishes it, only to be ruled out. Plenty of action to enjoy here, but not the best look for the home side.
34'
D. Guerrier gets yellow.
33'
A third foul in three minutes earns Guerrier a booking.
32'
Guerrier with another foul, this time on Dempsey. That was a bad one. Bradley goes fast trying to catch the keeper out but sent it just over.
31'
Guerrier takes down Garza, but I'm betting the USA left back is tired of seeing him around.
29'
Nazon with another really, really nice run. He's been very good so far, along with Guerrier. They are seriously dangerous on the break.
27'
USA wins a corner. First one for either side so far. Here's where having Gonzalez in the lineup can be a huge advantage, but the ball goes all the way through.
26'
Betin was the man down. He's up and walking off the pitch. We'll see if it requires a change.
25'
A shot from Dempsey was blocked by a head and now we've got a player down on the pitch after taking the shot off his ear.
23'
J. Alexandre gets yellow.
Dempsey on the break earns a foul and the defender, Alexandre, picks up a booking.
21'
There's another example. Haiti could be a goal up after that chance, with Gonzalez beaten near midfield and Ream and Garza trying to cover and odd breakout. The shot fizzed just wide of the mark.
20'
Ugly start to the game for the USA. The passing is very slow, and Haiti looks comfortable just waiting for a mistake, which the home side has made more than a few of.
17'
Dempsey looks very frustrated. Johannsson over-hits the pass into a bad area. The USA's front three really haven't figured it out yet and aren't getting much punch from the three midfielders.
15'
If you're being honest, Haiti has looked the better side over the last 10 minutes. The USA trying to build slowly and every giveaway is turning into a break for the Haitians.
12'
Haiti caught offside, but showing some signs here, much like in the Panama match, of really being up for the match and a threat to the favored team.
11'
Bradley goes long this time, and that's not what the USA is really looking for.
10'
OFF THE BAR! Jerome with the strike and it glanced just off the top of the bar. Haiti looking dangerous when the USA gets sloppy on the ball.
9'
Diskerud has the ball just taken off him, pocket picked, and gives up a foul in a dangerous area as he chased back.
8'
Nice little move there from the U.S. Zusi picks out Johannsson who in turns plays in Altidore. The cross is not a good one, but a nice little run of play to get to that point.
7'
Altidore with a driving run forward and has it taken off of him before giving up a foul.
5'
Good bit of hustle there from Greg Garza who couldn't keep the ball in play. Haiti takes over, but the U.S. wins it back quickly and is back trying to build.
3'
USA pinging the ball around the back nicely. This should be the way of things for a good bit of the match. Haiti sitting back a good bit already.
2'
Haiti sure came out of the blocks quickly. Trying to strike one early, but the USA gets it dealt with, Zusi draws a foul, and now the USA is on the ball.
1'
We're off and running. USA in the all white moving right to left, Haiti in the all blue kit tonight.
Here we go USA fans and those picking this live call up around the world tonight. What we have is the second match for the home side in Group A, with Haiti standing in front of the USA's attempt to win the group tonight.
For those who haven't been following, one counterattack and a strong defensive showing helped Haiti to a 1-1 draw with Panama their group opener, so already one slight upset on the record. The USA, on the other hand ground out a 2-1 win over Honduras on the strength of two Clint Dempsey goals.
Jurgen Klinsmann has decided to shake things up tonight after that less-than-stellar showing. Clint Dempsey will drop back behind two strikers tonight, with Zusi, Bradley and Mix Diskerud making up what amounts to a three-man midfield. It will be interesting to see what kind of freedom Dempsey takes. Jozy Altidore will be joined up front by Aron Johannsson. At the back, it's a completely new group. Omar Gonzalez and Tim Ream will be in the middle, and I think you can assume Greg Garza and Brad Evans will be asked to get forward a good bit from their left and right back spots.
Just a few minutes out from the opening kick. Ground crews are working on the field between matches in New England. Hopefully they can make some improvements.
Teams are out on the field and the songs are ready to be sung.
Four changes for Haiti. Nazon is the danger man up top, along with LaFrance. But it's Jaggy, Jerome, Bertin and Goreuz across the back who did so well against Panama.
Very entertaining first half. Strong showing from Haiti with the USA coming into the flow better over the final few minutes. We'll be back with the second half shortly.
