And we're off! Juventus get us underway, attacking from right to left.
Good afternoon and welcome to our live text commentary of today’s Serie A clash between Juventus and Udinese. My name is Ben Cullimore and I will be keeping you up to date with all of the action from Juventus Stadium.
Today marks the beginning of Juventus’ fourth consecutive Serie A defence after storming to the title in all of the previous four seasons, and they will be looking to get off to the best possible start at home to a Udinese side that struggled over the course of the last campaign. However, Bianconeri boss Massimiliano Allegri has been preaching caution ahead of the start of the new season, saying that it could take some time for his new-look team to gel. No fewer than seven new recruits have made their way to Turin over the course of the summer, including Paulo Dybala, Sami Khedira and Mario Mandzukic, all of whom are expected to play a part today. It’ll be interesting to see how they fair on a weekend that Roma, arguably their biggest rivals in the fight for the title, were only able to draw 1-1 against Hellas Verona.
Juventus have recent history on their side, as Udinese head into this afternoon’s clash winless in their last eight games against the Old Lady. Their last win, a 2-1 victory, came back in 2011, and since then they have managed to pick up just two points against the Bianconeri. Last season saw them end a difficult campaign in a poor 16th place, their lowest finish since gaining promotion back to Serie A ahead of the start of the 1995-96 season. Under new boss Stefano Colantuono, previously of Atalanta, they will be looking to start the new season in positive fashion as they aim to re-establish themselves near the top of the table.
There’s just over 15 minutes left to go until until kick-off, so let’s have a look at how the two teams will be lining up this afternoon…
Massimiliano Allegri has decided to make three changes to the Juventus side that started the 2-0 win against Lazio in the Super Cup, with Giorgio Chiellini, Roberto Pereyra and Simone Padoin coming into the squad to replace Martin Caceres, Stefano Sturaro and Claudio Marchisio.
Meanwhile, Udinese boss Stefano Colantuono has made just one alteration to the side that started the 3-1 Coppa Italia win at home to Novara, with Guilherme dropping out to be replaced by Manuel Iturra.
The two sides are making their way out onto the pitch, with just a few minutes to go until kick-off.
HALF-TIME: JUVENTUS 0-0 UDINESE
It's been a frustrating opening 45 minutes for Juventus, who have done everything right yet still have yet to find the back of the net. They have looked incredibly dangerous when pushing forward, with Evra, Lichtsteiner and Coman putting in great shifts in front of goal, but the visitors' defence have held firm and head into the half-time break with the scores level at 0-0.
The two teams are making their way back out onto the pitch ahead of the start of the second half. Neither side have made any substitutions during the half-time break.
FULL-TIME: JUVENTUS 0-1 UDINESE
Udinese hold on to pick up a truly excellent victory! They were on the back foot for 99% of the game, spending the vast majority of the evening camped deep inside their own half of the pitch, but they took advantage of the one chance presented to them and, as a result, leave Turin with three massive points.
Juventus look shell-shocked, and understandably so. They looked brilliant as they put the Udinese defence under an incredible amount of pressure but they just couldn't seem to find a way through the visitors' determined and well-organised back line, no matter what they tried to do. They really should have taken their chances in the first half, and their inability to do so has cost them dearly.
Udinese now go on to host Palermo in their next Serie A game, whilst Juventus will be looking to bounce back against Roma in seven days' time. It's going to be an incredibly difficult clash, however, and one that will be made even more difficult after today's defeat.
My name is Ben Cullimore and it's been an absolute pleasure describing all of the action to you this evening. Until next time, goodbye!
