THERE IT IS!!! The referee blows his whistle and victory belongs to Valencia!
90' +3
J. Ferri gets yellow.
90' +2
TWO VITAL SAVES! Domenech initially shows great reflexes to turn away Tolisso's instinctive volley before, seconds later, he springs brilliantly to his left to tip Umtiti's drilled effort around the post.
90' +1
Jaume Doménech gets yellow.
THREE MINUTES! That is how long Lyon have to find an equaliser as the fourth official raises his board on the touchline.
90'
It seems like it is just not meant to be for Lyon. They work the ball nicely again before looking to get it into the box, but it is overhit and runs aimlessly behind for a goal kick.
87'
NO PENALTY! Jallet makes a huge appeal to the referee claiming his cross struck the arm of Santos. The official is not interested, however, and replays show it would have been harsh to award the spot kick.
86'
Lyon patiently build towards the Valencia penalty area with some neat one-twos, but the visitors defend very well once again to make an interception and clear the danger.
84'
Danilo Barbosa enters the game and replaces E. Pérez.
Santo makes his final change of the evening and it is a very defensive one as Danilo Barbosa comes on in place of Perez. He is definitely looking to just protect this lead.
82'
Lyon have certainly lost a lot of the impetus they were carrying throughout most of this second half. That needs to change if they are going to snatch a point from the game.
80'
We are into the final 10 minutes here and Valencia still lead 1-0. You would fancy them to hold out for the win given the way the play has balanced out over the last few minutes.
Minute
Description
78'
R. Ghezzal enters the game and replaces J. Morel.
77'
Fatigue is starting to creep into the hosts' game as they have made several basic errors over these last couple of minutes, like not passing the ball to feet and running out of ideas in the final third. That will suit Valencia down to the ground.
75'
While Lyon's attacking threat must be applauded this evening, Valencia have produced some wonderful defending to counter their opponents and are just 15 minutes away from victory.
74'
C. Beauvue enters the game and replaces A. Lacazette.
73'
The hosts get bodies in the box as Valbuena whips in another dangerous corner, but they are penalised for a high arm which sees Parejo go down holding his head.
71'
Rodrigo enters the game and replaces Álvaro Negredo.
Lacazette shows some very neat footwork around the penalty area before trying to thread the ball through, but he just overhits his pass and sends it behind for a goal kick.
69'
Lyon do not need to rush things. Yes, they must find an equaliser but they just need to keep playing their own game rather than try and force it to happen. The goal will come eventually if they carry on as they are.
67'
A. Kalulu gets yellow.
OUCH! Kalulu catches Cancelo late as he desperately tries to win the ball back and is shown a yellow card by the referee. That looked very painful for the right-back but he is back on his feet soon enough.
65'
Umtiti is next to try his luck for the hosts after some space opens up for him outside the area. Once again, though, his shot is way off target and never going to bother Domenech.
64'
The ball falls to Jallet in the box, but he fails to trouble the goalkeeper as he sends his effort way over the bar. Similarly to the opening matchday against Gent, he has had a very positive impact on proceedings.
63'
E. Pérez gets yellow.
62'
Lyon will be keen to make a mark in the competition this season, as it is their final campaign at Stade de Gerland before they move to a new stadium next season.
61'
M. Gonalons gets yellow.
59'
Aderllan Santos enters the game and replaces A. Abdennour.
Valencia make their first change of the game as Abdennour makes away after being unable to shake off an earlier knock. He is replaced in the heart of defence by Aderlan Santos.
57'
We have a slight break in play as Feghouli goes down holding his ankle. He was accidentally caught on the follow through as he went to close the ball down, but should be OK to continue.
55'
Lyon need to keep this momentum going. They are very much on top in the opening exchanges of this second half, but just need to provide better service for the likes of Lacazette.
53'
CLOSE! Valbuena whips in a vicious delivery that is met by the head of Tolisso, but he cannot keep his effort down and sends it flying over the crossbar. That was a good chance.
52'
Javi Fuego gets yellow.
Lyon now have a free kick just outside the box on the right hand side. You feel that the equaliser is not too far away here, it is a matter of when it comes as opposed to if.
50'
GOOD PRESSURE! The hosts almost get in behind following some neat play. Ferri races onto a neat backheel and shoots, but his effort is brilliantly blocked by Mustafi.
48'
Fournier must have got his message across at the break because Lyon have made a very strong start to this second half. They are playing with a lot of purpose as they search for the equaliser.
46'
KICK OFF! The referee blows his whistle and Lyon get us going once more.
45' +3
Valencia deal with the subsequent corner and the referee blows for half time.
45' +2
THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN LEVEL THIS TIME! Lyon work the ball into the area well with Kalulu laying it into the path of an unmarked Ferri, whose side-footed shot takes the slightest deflection to direct it past the post.
45' +1
ALMOST THE EQUALISER! Lacazette works some space in the area before seeing his deflected shot loop over Domenech and bounce off the crossbar. Morel follows it up but blasts his rebound over from six yards.
44'
Los Che deserve to be in front on the balance of play over the last few minutes. They have already hit the woodwork three times and it only a matter of time before they made their superiority tell.
43'
J. Ferri enters the game and replaces Darder.
42'
S. Féghouli has scored a goal for Valencia! Assist by P. Piatti.
VALENCIA LEAD!!! There is no denying the Algerian this time as the visitors take a quick free kick and Piatti races away before pulling the ball to the edge of the area, where Feghouli races in unmarked before unleashing a powerful strike that Lopes can only help in off the underside of the bar.
40'
OFF THE BAR! Good work from Valencia down the right sees Cancelo pull the ball back in the area for Feghouli, whose controlled side-footed effort rattles against the crossbar.
38'
We have a slight break in play here as Darder goes down. He is clutching his knee but nobody was near him when he went to ground. The medical team are giving him some attention now.
35'
OFF THE POST! Piatti's corner is met by the head of Abdennour in the area. The centre half has provided a decent threat from corners and he very nearly opens the scoring when he towers over the defence, but sees his header bounce back off the upright.
33'
Some neat and intricate play from the visitors sees them work the ball to the byline and Morel has to make a very important defensive challenge at the expense of a corner.
31'
Good defending from Abdennour. Kalulu looks to use his pace to get in behind the centre half, who keeps up brilliantly and makes a vital interception for his side.
29'
We are definitely getting closer to finding the breakthrough here. You feel that the deadlock being broken would certainly open this game up a lot more. There is plenty of time yet, though.
27'
WHAT A SAVE! Valbuena whips in a wonderful free kick that is destined for the top corner but Domenech produces his hands from nowhere to tip the ball onto the post.
25'
The Spaniards need to get more men in the box. They just got into a good position to cross from the left, but had just two players to aim for in the area and Lyon are able to easily clear.
23'
Valencia put a neat spell of play together before looking to slide the ball through for Parejo, but Jallet recovers brilliantly to tidy up the situation for the French side.
22'
The last five minutes have produced undoubtedly the two best chances of the game so far. It was good goalkeeping from Domenech to deny Piatti, but Kalulu should have put his foot through his opportunity when he had it.
20'
WHY DIDN'T HE SHOOT?! Kalulu is played in by a through ball from Lacazette but, rather than shoot first time, he looks to cut inside Bisevac and Valencia recover to intercept.
17'
CHANCE! Valencia work the ball into the box and some good persistence from Parejo sets up a chance for Piatti, who drills his effort straight at the legs of Lopes.
15'
Valencia have a slight psychological advantage coming into this game, having already beaten French opposition in Monaco to qualify for the group stages. By contrast, Lyon have won one of their last four against Spanish sides.
13'
The game has become more balanced over these last few minutes with both teams now falling into their strides. Lyon have probably just shaded the opening 13 minutes in terms of possession.
11'
Goals have been hard to come by for Los Che in La Liga this season. They have managed just three from their six games so far, but have conceded just two along the way.
9'
NOT FAR AWAY! Valencia force a corner from their first attack and it is met by Abdennour from Piatti''s delivery, but his header for the far post glances just wide of the target.
7'
These two sides have met twice before in this competition; both back in the 2000/01 season when Valencia did the double on their way to reaching a second straight final.
5'
The hosts have settled into their rhythm the quicker of the two sides inside the opening five minutes. They are knocking the ball around nicely and Valencia are yet to get out of their own half.
3'
Lyon almost got in behind the Valencia defence as Jallet looked to latch onto the ball following some neat play. The Spaniards hold firm on this occasion, though.
1'
KICK OFF! The referee blows his whistle and Valencia get us underway.
GOOD EVENING LADIES AND GENTLEMEN! This is Jonathan Davies welcoming you to LIVE text commentary of the UEFA Champions League. We’re at Stade de Gerland as Olympique Lyonnais take on Valencia in Group H.
Both sides endured frustrating opening nights on their returns to Europe’s premier competition; Lyon were held to a 1-1 draw by nine-man Gent, while Valencia went down 3-2 at home to Zenit St Petersburg.
Hubert Fournier declared himself angry following Lyon’s 3-1 defeat to Bordeaux in Ligue 1 at the weekend and has made five changes, with Claudio Beauvue dropped to the bench despite scoring in that game. The French side are without the likes of Clement Grenier, Nabil Fekir and a host of defenders including Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa through inury.
Valencia ended a run of three games without a win by beating Granada in La Liga on Friday. Nuno Espirito Santo makes three changes with Javi Fuego, Aymen Abdennour and Pablo Piatti all coming into the starting 11. Andre Gomes and Jose Gaya are sidelined with injury.
The teams are coming out onto the pitch and kick off is just moments away.
HALF TIME: LYON 0-1 VALENCIA
A cracking strike from Sofiane Feghouli separates the two sides at the break. Lyon controlled most of the earlier stages, but Valencia grew into the half and finished it strongly.
Elsewhere in Group H this evening, Zenit lead Gent by a goal to nil. Artem Dzyuba's goal on 35 minutes is the difference between the two sides at the break in Russia.
The teams are coming back out onto the field and the second half is imminent.
FULL TIME: LYON 0-1 VALENCIA
Sofiane Feghouli's first-half goal proved to be the winner as Valencia got their first points on the board in this season's UEFA Champions League. Lyon are still searching for their first win despite a valiant effort this evening.
That's all for this evening. I've been Jonathan Davies - thank you for following the LIVE text commentary of the UEFA Champions League, hope you've enjoyed it. Until next time, goodnight!
