The referee blows the final whistle and it is honours even here.
90' +3
Daniel Carriço enters the game and replaces É. Banega.
Sevilla make their final change of the match, as Daniel Carriço comes on in place of Banega.
90' +1
THREE MINUTES! That is the length of stoppage time that has been added on at the end of this game. Can either side find a winner?
90'
D. Høegh enters the game and replaces W. Samuel.
R. Steffen gets yellow.
The referee reaches into his pocket again, this time showing Steffen a yellow card.
Basel make their final change of the night with Samuel going off to be replaced by Daniel Hoegh.
89'
Can Basel capitalise? They are playing with a man extra for the closing stages of this first leg and should look to make their numerical advantage count here.
87'
S. Nzonzi gets a second yellow card and is sent off.
N'ZONZI SENT OFF! Sevilla are down to 10 men as the midfielder receives his second yellow card for catching Fransson in the face.
85'
B. Trémoulinas gets yellow.
Trémoulinas catches with a trailing arm as he jumps for the ball and goes into the referee's notebook.
83'
A. Fransson enters the game and replaces M. Delgado.
Basel make their second change of the evening, as Delgado goes off to be replaced by Alexander Fransson.
81'
Can either side find a winner? It is looking extremely unlikely as the clock ticks down, but just one goal would surely be enough to settle this first leg and bring a huge advantage going into the second leg.
79'
GOOD SAVE! Konoplyanka springs the offside trap as he darts into the area. He tries his luck with a drilled effort from a tight angle, but Vaclik gets down well to smother.
Minute
Description
77'
CHANCE! Nothing comes of the free-kick but Basel continue to pressure their opponents. The ball breaks for Janko in the box, but his effort is brilliantly turned away by Soria. It would not have counted anyway, as the offside flag had been raised.
75'
S. Nzonzi gets yellow.
Basel have a free-kick right on the edge of the penalty area after N'Zonzi is judged to have clipped the legs of the surging Steffen. He is shown a yellow card by the referee.
73'
Fernando Llorente enters the game and replaces K. Gameiro.
A like-for-like change by Emery, who introduces Fernando Llorente in search of a winner at the expense of Gameiro.
Delgado is given space to advance with the ball and he has a go from distance. He cuts right across the shot, however, and sends it well wide of the target.
72'
The eventual shot may not have troubled Soria but they were certainly positive signs for Basel. They need to hold their own with Sevilla and take their opportunities when they come.
70'
Traore has been lively since coming on. He plays a neat one-two with Xhaka and gets in behind the Sevilla defence. The angle is too tight, however, and he sends his shot high and wide.
68'
GOOD SAVE! Gameiro gets in behind the defence to latch onto a neat through ball. He lets fly with a powerful effort from a tight angle and Vaclik is forced to get strong hands to push it away.
67'
The visitors are very much on top as we enter the final quarter of this contest. This is where they need to turn their superiority into goals, as they aim to improve their poor record away from home.
65'
Y. Konoplanka enters the game and replaces Vitolo.
Sevilla make their first change of the evening, as Vitolo is withdrawn to be replaced by Yevhen Konoplyanka.
63'
Janko drifts in behind the defence after Bjarnason neatly helps the ball into his path. He just started is run too soon, however, and the offside flag is quickly raised by the linesman.
61'
Vaclik showed wonderful reflexes to deny N'Zonzi but he will be disappointed with the defence, as they allowed the Sevilla midfielder to drift unmarked into the area.
59'
GREAT SAVE! That was Sevilla's first clear opening of this match. N'Zonzi latched onto a neatly lofted ball over the top of the defence by Banega, but Vaclik was quickly out of goal to make a good block.
57'
CHANCE! Basel build a nice move down the right flank and the ball is fizzed into the area. Traore is unmarked but completely misses his attempted shot with a wild swing at it.
55'
There is a worrying sign for Basel as Janko goes down after being charged into from behind by Kolodziejczak. He is quickly back on his feet, however, after a quick bout of treatment.
53'
Bjarnason has wasted two very good opportunities now for Basel following his poor touch when one on one with the keeper in the first half. The hosts need to take their chances ahead of the second leg.
51'
WHAT A CHANCE! Steffen cuts in from the right onto his left foot. His blocked shot breaks kindly for Bjarnason, who is unable to keep his effort down from 10 yards out.
50'
The start of this second half is following a similar pattern to the first. Once again, Sevilla are looking good in possession but they must start asking more questions of the Basel defence.
48'
Vitolo slips in midfield and Zuffi emarks on a strong run into the heart of the Sevilla defence. He lets fly from 30 yards but sees his effort drift well wide of the target.
46'
A. Traoré enters the game and replaces M. Lang.
KICK-OFF! The referee blows his whistle and Sevilla get the ball rolling once again.
Basel made a change at the break. Lang was unable to continue following his knock at the end of the first half and is replaced by Adama Traoré.
45' +2
Mr. Taylor blows his whistle and brings the first half to an end.
45'
The ball is whipped into the box but evades everybody before going out for a goal-kick. Meanwhile, the fourth official raises his board to indicate that there will just a single minute of stoppage time.
44'
Sevilla have a free-kick by the near touchline in the dying minutes of this first half. They should look to make the most of this just before the break.
42'
Interestingly, Basel are the only reigning domestic champions left in this season's UEFA Europa League. Barring a monumental collapse, their 17-point cushion should be enough to see them over the line in the Swiss Super League this term.
40'
S. Cristóforo gets yellow.
Cristoforo is the second Sevilla player to be shown a yellow card. He must now tread carefully.
39'
We are still goalless as we approach the last five minutes of this first half. Apart from the Janko chance in the seventh minute, neither side have looked particularly threatening in the final third.
37'
É. Banega gets yellow.
Banega is the first Sevilla man to have his name taken by Mr Taylor after tripping Xhaka near the far touchline.
35'
Lang shows good determination as he makes his way back onto the pitch following lengthy attention from the physio. He is moving a lot more freely compared to when he limped to the sidelines.
33'
Basel are a man light for the moment as Lang receives treatment on the sidelines. Sevilla should look to make the most of their numerical advantage.
31'
There is a break in play here as Lang receives attention following a strong challenge from Tremoulinas. It was a fair tackle, but the Basel right-back is struggling here.
29'
Samuel needs to tread carefully! He is already on a yellow card and is late with his challenge on Krohn-Dehli. The referee gives him the benefit of the doubt on this occasion.
27'
Basel are awarded a free-kick just inside their own half and, once again, they use the opportunity to slow the game right down to their own pace. They are looking to level their opponents out and gain a foothold in the contest.
25'
While Sevilla have been very effectively in keeping the ball so far this evening, they are yet to truly threaten Vaclik in the Basel goal. Taking a lead back to Spain for the second leg would stand them in good stead.
23'
Basel may have been strong at home on the continent this season, but their record against Spanish opposition leaves a lot to be desired. They have lost 10 of their 16 matches, winning just two of them.
21'
The free-kick is dealt with by Basel, but only at the expense of a couple of corners. They stand firm, however, and are eventually awarded a free-kick which gives them the opportunity to settle back into their rhythm.
19'
Sevilla now have a free-kick near the touchline after Delgado bundles over Cristoforo. The visitors will look to make their superiority over the past few minutes count.
17'
Emery's men are beginning to gain the upper hand in the contest. They are passing the ball around very nicely and keeping their opponents waiting.
15'
JUST OVER! Sevilla are awarded a corner and have their first decent opportunity to get the ball into the box. Basel are slow to respond from the subsequent delivery, but the visitors are able to keep a shot down.
13'
POOR TOUCH! Sevilla clear from a throw-in but the ball is pumped back into the box. Bjarnason springs the offside trap and the flag stays down, but he is unable to get it under control and Soria smothers.
12'
The long ball into the box is causing problems for Sevilla in their own penalty area. Lang's diagonal centre is met by a Basel head, but the visitors just about manage to scramble away on this occasion.
10'
Basel have lost just once in their six European home games this season and, given Sevilla's poor record on the road, they will fancy their chances of continuing that run this evening.
8'
W. Samuel gets yellow.
Yellow cards have never been far away in the career of Samuel. He picks up the first one of the night and will now miss the second leg.
7'
SO CLOSE! Steffen advances down the left flank for Basel. He whips a dangerous ball into the box which is met by the head of Janko, who directs it just wide of the far post with Soria beaten.
5'
It has been a game of possession inside the opening five minutes. Both sides are keeping the ball well, but action has been fairly limited in each of the final thirds.
3'
Sevilla did not have a touch of the ball inside the opening minute but, since then, they have enjoyed the vast majority of possession, as they look to gain the upper hand in the early stages.
1'
KICK-OFF! The referee blows his whistle and Basel get the match underway kicking from right to left.
Good evening and welcome to LIVE text commentary of the UEFA Europa League! We're at St-Jakob Park tonight for the Round of 16 clash between runaway Swiss Super League leaders FC Basel and defending champions Sevilla.
This should be an interesting contest between the side who will host the final of this year's competition and the team that are aiming to defend the title for a third consecutive year. These two are certainly among the favourites to go far in the tournament.
Basel come into this match following an 11-day break after their scheduled league showdown with Lugano on Sunday was postponed. Urs Fischer makes six changes to the side that drew 1-1 at Thun last time out, one of which sees veteran Walter Samuel return in the heart of defence. The 37-year-old won the Champions League with Internazionale in 2010, while the creative Granit Xhaka takes his place in midfield.
Sevilla have lost each of their four matches on the road in Europe this season. Unai Emery makes four changes from their draw at Getafe on Saturday, as he looks to set the record straight. David Soria replaces Sergio Rico in goal, while Benoit Tremoulinas comes in at left-back. Sebastian Cristoforo takes his place in the defensive midfield duo and Michael Krohn-Dehli starts in the attacking midfield trio behind Kevin Gameiro.
SEVILLA SUBS: Sergio Rico, Daniel Carrico, Iborra, Juan Munoz, Konoplyanka, Llorente, Mariano.
The teams make their way out onto the field and kick-off is just moments away. Barclays Premier League referee Anthony Taylor is the man in the middle this evening.
HALF-TIME: BASEL 0-0 SEVILLA
There are no goals at the break and, apart from Janko's header that drifted just wide of the far post, neither side have been all that threatening in front of goal.
The players are making their way back out onto the field and the second half is about to get underway.
FULL-TIME: BASEL 0-0 SEVILLA
It was a goalless stalemate in the first leg of this Last 16 clash at St-Jakob Park. The two sides will try again in Spain next week with a place in the Quarter-Finals up for grabs.
That's all for this evening. Thank you for following the LIVE action of the UEFA Europa League - hope you've enjoyed it. Until next time, have a very good evening!
