FULL TIME! That's the whistle to end this tie as Ireland finish 1-0 winners over Switzerland.
90' +2
Ireland look set to continue their ratio of goals to games at the Aviva Stadium. They had 17 in their last 18 internationals at home and another solitary strike looks enough to have secured the win here tonight.
90'
Three minutes of added time have been given to end this clash.
89'
CHANCE! So close from O'Kane as he carries the ball forward from the edge of the box and lets rip with a curling effort, only to see it drop agonisingly wide of the post. Sommer would have been beaten there had he got his shot on target and was glad to see it fall wide of the goal.
87'
McClean embarks on a late Irish attack but, as he lifts his head up for a pass, there are few options ahead of him as Switzerland regain possession. The West Brom winger is a converted striker here at the moment as Ireland play out the final few minutes.
85'
CHANCE! Confusion at the back for Ireland as Randolph challenges Embolo in his six-yard box, only for the ball to bobble free to Kasami on the edge of the box. He plays it along to Tarashaj to fire a low shot on goal but it trickles just wide of the post after taking a slight deflection off Clark and Embolo once more.
84'
J. McClean enters the game and replaces S. Long.
SUBSTITUTION! Long is replaced by McClean in another late change for Ireland.
82'
S. Widmer enters the game and replaces M. Lang.
SUBSTITUTION! Widmer comes on for Lang for the visitors with 10 minutes remaining.
79'
W. Hoolahan enters the game and replaces D. Murphy.
SUBSTITUTION! Murphy, who came on for Doyle in the first half, is taken off himself as Hoolahan replaces him.
78'
F. Moubandje enters the game and replaces R. Rodríguez.
SUBSTITUTION! Another change for the visitors as Rodriguez comes off for Moubandje.
Minute
Description
77'
Randolph does well to read the danger and is brave in rushing out to punch the ball away from the corner, allowing Ireland to break at the second attempt of a counter-attack, only for Long to draw a foul near the half-way line. A chance to slow the play down again here for the hosts.
75'
Switzerland win a corner at the other end after O'Kane nips in ahead of Embolo inside the area, with the towering striker looking to bring the ball down from an aerial ball.
73'
Ireland have been resolute in their defensive play tonight but, of course, that is perhaps expected from O'Neill's side at home. He is unbeaten in his last nine home matches as the manager of the Republic of Ireland.
71'
S. Tarashaj enters the game and replaces B. Džemaili.
P. Kasami enters the game and replaces A. Mehmedi.
G. Fernandes enters the game and replaces V. Behrami.
SUBSTITUTION! Mehmedi comes off for Kasami in a change for the visitors.
SUBSTITUTION! Another change for the Swiss as Dzemaili is replaced by Tarashaj.
SUBSTITUTION! Behrami is also off for Fernandes for Switzerland.
69'
Very little space in the Irish penalty box as Embolo holds up play just inside the area, turns Clark, yet his ball towards Dzemaili is misplaced and rolls to Randolph. That pass is a little tricky to play but Coleman looked to have had that covered even if it had crept through.
68'
Another few changes look likely for Switzerland as they ready a host of players from the bench. They need something in this game as they haven't got going at all in this second period, with Ireland happy with the 1-0 scoreline.
66'
Typical play from Long there as he chases a long-ball forward, closing down Sommer in the Swiss goal to force a wild clearance into the stands. A throw-in now for Ireland just past the half-way line.
64'
Strong play from Brady at left-back to track the run of the Swiss attack following a quick interchange of play, forcing a goal-kick for his side after holding his ground. A tidy performance at the back from the hosts here tonight.
62'
R. Steffen enters the game and replaces H. Seferović.
SUBSTITUTION! A change for the Swiss as well now as Seferovic makes way for Steffen.
61'
E. O'Kane enters the game and replaces D. Meyler.
J. McCarthy enters the game and replaces S. Quinn.
J. Hayes enters the game and replaces A. McGeady.
SUBSTITUTION! Another debut here now for Ireland as Aberdeen winger Jonny Hayes comes on for McGeady.
SUBSTITUTION! Meyler comes off for Eunan O'Kane in a change for the hosts.
SUBSTITUTION! O'Neill makes his third change in this spell, and fourth in the game, as Quinn is replaced by McCarthy.
60'
G. Xhaka gets yellow.
59'
YELLOW! Xhaka is the second player to pick up a caution for a late foul near the half-way line on Quinn.
57'
Ireland still on course for a morale-boosting victory here then ahead of the Euros. Their last win over Switzerland, incidentally, came some 24 years ago in March 1992 - a 2-1 friendly win against Roy Hodgson's then Swiss side.
55'
Great play from Switzerland! Rodriguez again is at the heart of it, starting the move from left-back as he plays a ball forward into the feet of Dzemaili. He in turn flicks a pass towards Embolo inside the area yet Clark reads the danger well, sweeping across to get his toe to the ball and draw a foul from the Swiss striker as he over-stretches to get a shot away, only to catch his marker on his shin.
53'
Rodriguez does well on the other side now to skip past a couple of Irish challenges on the left and play a pass off to a team-mate, yet Ireland close down the space in the final third and force Switzerland to retreat with the ball back to the half-way line. Solid defending from O'Neill's side here.
51'
It is Rodriguez who hits it, yet the full-back opts for a cross swung towards the back-post rather than a shot himself. It's a little too close to the keeper though as Randolph comes off his line to claim and smother the danger. Ireland can restart from the back here.
50'
Judge flies into a challenge on Lang at the other end and, despite winning some of the ball, concedes a free-kick in a decent crossing position from the right - just outside the area. Rodriguez stands over the ball looking to shape for a shot.
48'
Great strength from Murphy to hold off the Swiss defence near the byline and float in a cross towards Long inside the area. It is ever so slightly over-hit though, dropping back out wide to the right, but the second attempted ball from the other flank fails to cause any danger.
47'
No changes at the break for either side then, despite a combined 25 players on the substitute's bench for the two tonight - 15 of them for the hosts. Murphy is the only enforced change we've had so far following that first-half injury to Doyle.
46'
SECOND HALF! We are back underway for the final 45 minutes at the Aviva Stadium!
45' +4
HALF TIME! And that's the whistle to signal for the interval here at the Aviva Stadium.
45' +3
Switzerland are ending this half the stronger of the two sides, as they have been for most of this game, yet cannot break down a resolute Irish defence. A chance had earlier fallen to Embolo but Coleman swept away the danger before he could get his shot away.
45' +1
We're heading into the second of four added minutes to end this half.
44'
This has not been a classic by any means despite perhaps threatening to produce a fair few goals after Clark's strike just minutes in. But it is at least an improvement on the last meeting between these two sides. Their last fixture, in 2005, ended in a 0-0 draw at Lansdowne Road.
42'
CHANCE! Decent effort for the Irish at the other end as a corner is clipped in from the right. Judge, looking for a debut goal, is the man to get his head to the ball at the back-post ahead of Long, yet his effort drops just wide of the post.
40'
B. Džemaili gets yellow.
YELLOW! Dzemali is the first player to be booked in this game after attempting to win a penalty - only for it to be perceived as a dive. Behrami appeals to the officials but to no avail.
39'
Lovely play from the visitors! Seferovic shows great awareness inside the box to flick a quick pass around the corner of the Irish defence and into the feet of Embolo. He has the chance to shoot yet looks to cut a cross back, only for Ireland to clear. He perhaps should have gone for goal himself there.
37'
OFF THE BAR! Wonderful play from the hosts! Coleman has Rodriguez in all sorts of trouble at left-back as he runs directly towards the edge of the penalty box, twisting and turning before floating in a cross for Long. He rises well to meet it yet cannot keep his header down as it bounces off the underside of the bar. He has a second stab at it yet Sommer saves with ease. Desperately unlucky!
35'
CHANCE! Switzerland counter at the other end after that earlier Irish attack is quelled. Xhaka is handed the ball with space on the edge of the area, unleashing a shot. It deflects off Seferovic and could go anywhere but, luckily for the hosts, it diverts straight into the path of a grateful Randolph.
33'
A moment of excitement for the Irish though as Long picks up a knock-on from Judge. Inside the area, he looks to pick his head up and drill in a low cross but there is nobody on the end to meet it. Not much about the hosts in an attacking sense thus far, despite the goal.
32'
The Aviva Stadium is a little low on atmosphere at the moment - partly due to the injury of Doyle, but also due to the fact Switzerland have given their side very little. Space in the attacking third is hard to come by for the hosts, with the Swiss quick to close down.
30'
McGeady wins a corner on the right-hand side, which Brady comes across to take, yet his delivery is over the heads of everyone and cleared by the Swiss defence. Embolo was the man quick to meet the cross ahead of Everton full-back - and captain for the day - Coleman.
29'
Behrami is involved in a confrontation with Long now after chasing the Irish striker down from his defensive third and bringing him down midway through the Switzerland half. The referee is quick to intervene and hands the hosts a free-kick.
27'
D. Murphy enters the game and replaces K. Doyle.
SUBSTITUTION! We are back underway after that short stoppage in play with Murphy indeed coming on to replace the injured Doyle.
25'
We'll have a decent chunk of injury time added to the end of this first half as well as Doyle is still lying down on the ground, receiving treatment for that collision of shins. He has his hands in his heads as he is now carried off to a warm applause from concerned home supporters.
23'
An unfortunate injury here for Doyle as it looks like this will be the end of his game. Physios are on the pitch - as well as a stretcher - as Daryl Murphy readies himself from the substitute’s bench. A big blow for manager O'Neill as, should he utilise this 4-4-2 formation in the Euros, the former Wolves forward is sure to be an option.
21'
High pressing from Long and Doyle in the Irish attack allows the hosts to win the ball back high in the Switzerland half. A ball is played forward yet a little too far ahead of Doyle, who has to stretch to meet it. It ricochets out for a throw-in but it looks like the Colorado Rapids striker may have to come off here as he hobbles to the ground in pain.
19'
CHANCE! Should be doing better! We have already seen Lang provide Switzerland with attacking impetus in this game so far and he does so again, bursting into a good position inside the box to meet a corner. He has plenty of time to pick his spot from a header yet it is weak and straight at Randolph in goal. A decent chance has gone missing.
17'
A bit of a waste from Dzemaili though as Switzerland earn a free-kick in a decent crossing position, midway through the Irish half. His cross fails to beat the first man though as Coleman hacks a clearance away. Still, it has been all the visitors so far - despite the score-line.
15'
JUST WIDE! Again, Embolo is lively in the final third and does well to hold-off the Irish defence to earn a corner on the right. It is whipped in towards the centre of the goal and Seferovic rises above Clark to meet it. His header is aimed at the back-post and narrowly misses by inches! Unlucky!
13'
Embolo is proving a handful for the Irish defence early on, despite not really having a chance to threaten in front of goal himself. Yet Seferovic - one of three in attack for the visitors - gets a shot of his own off after twisting inside the area, only to miss the target.
11'
McGeady fires in the corner towards the near-post with Doyle rushing in to get on the end of it, yet Switzerland manage to turn his effort behind - conceding another set-piece in the process. Yet a second delivery is dealt with better by the visitors.
10'
Some smart play from McGeady at the other end for Ireland as he throws in a few step-overs near the byline to play his cross off a defender, earning another corner.
8'
CHANCE! A decent scoring opportunity there for the Swiss and again, play builds down the right-hand side. Behrami is the man who starts is, looking to play the ball short towards the edge of the box to Mehmedi. He knocks it on once more to Dzemaili with acres of space to angle an effort on goal yet he slices it high and wide over the bar. A let off there for Ireland.
6'
The visitors have settled into a decent rhythm on the ball since going a goal down and are happy to spray the ball across the midfield. Play is patiently built up down the right-hand side with Lang overlapping from right-back, not for the first time in this passage of play, but the ball into his path is over-hit and rolls out for an Ireland goal-kick.
4'
It's worth noting that ahead of this tie, Switzerland had been beaten just twice in their last 13 international games - winning nine of those. Plenty of time for this scoreline to change, though.
2'
C. Clark has scored a goal for Republic of Ireland! Assist by S. Duffy.
An early corner here for the host after an attack from McGeady down the left-hand side. Brady steps up to float in a delivery towards the near-post, with Doyle the target, but Xhaka rises high to knock it out for another set-piece.
GOAAAAL! And we have our first goal! A second delivery is whipped in from the corner by Brady and Duffy knocks it towards goal. Clark is ahead of him inside the six-yard box and guides a header into the net. A super start for the Irish!
Duffy does well to rise above his marker in the build-up to that goal, but how Ireland managed to get not one - but two heads to the ball in that move - is anybody's guess. Poor marking.
1'
KICK OFF! And Switzerland get the game underway!
Hello and welcome to our LIVE text commentary in this international friendly between the Republic of Ireland and Switzerland at the Aviva Stadium. We have kick-off for this one fast approaching in around 35 minutes.
A big game for both sides here tonight then as they prepare for their Euro 2016 preparations. Martin O'Neill will look to assess his squad in two close fixtures in this international break - hosting Switzerland tonight and then Slovakia next Tuesday. That's followed by a visit of the Netherlands on May 27, ahead of a tricky group at France this summer as they face Sweden, Belgium and Italy.
Switzerland also have three games ahead of their Euro 2016 campaign, facing Bosnia and Herzegovina and Belgium ahead of June. They are wedged in a group containing hosts France, Albania and Romania, so will fancy their chances of stealing second place at least ahead of the latter two. Victory tonight would only increase their confidence in the run.
Brentford midfielder Alan Judge is handed a senior Republic of Ireland debut. He lines up ahead of a central defensive partnership of Ciaran Clark and Shane Duffy, while Martin O'Neill opts for two up top with the ever-energetic Kevin Doyle and Shane Long. Switzerland coach Vladimir Petkovic, on the other hand, selects an attacking 4-3-3 formation. Yet no place for Gokhan Inler in the squad after losing his place at Premier League leaders Leicester City. He misses out for the first time in 10 years.
National anthems have been completed and a minute's applause for Johan Cruyff - who died yesterday - and those who lost their lives in the attacks in Brussels have also just finished. We are now moments away from kick-off here at the Aviva Stadium.
We have a goal in this tie - an Irish one at that - but chances have been few and far between in a tightly contested clash. Clark's header on two minutes was expertly guided into the net from inside the area, helped by some slack Swiss marking. Long may have doubled the lead for O'Neill's side only to see his effort hit the underside of the bar. Yet despite those attacks, the visitors have generally been in control of this match. A failure to turn possession into real chances to test Randolph in goal has been their downfall.
A win for the Republic of Ireland ensures they begin their Euro 2016 preparations with the best possible start. A tricky fixture was perhaps guaranteed between two tightly matched sides, but O'Neill's team took their one real chance in front of goal - courtesy of a Clark header - and restricted Switzerland to very little. They face Slovakia next Tuesday in an attempt to repeat tonight's result at the Aviva Stadium, while the Swiss play Bosnia and Herzegovina.
