On comes Mkhitaryan in Mourinho's first change. Can he earn himself a starting spot in this brief cameo?

74'
Pogba, Mata and Blind all make important clearances as Southampton produce a good spell of pressure.

Southampton continue to edge possession (53%), but have still only had one shot on target. United have been far more purposeful in attack and a third goal looks possible.
69'

Manchester United get the match under way at Old Trafford!
Manchester United have enjoyed a great start to life under Jose Mourinho, defeating Leicester City in the Community Shield before recording a 3-1 win at Bournemouth last weekend.
Hello and welcome to our live coverage of the Premier League match between Manchester United and Southampton at Old Trafford.
Striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has hit the ground running, netting in both of those matches. Tonight, we look forward to the second United debut for another of their star signings, world-record buy Paul Pogba.
Southampton, meanwhile, have had another off-season of heavy staff turnover. Claude Puel has replaced Ronald Koeman at the helm as he attempts to re-build a squad that has lost key trio Sadio Mane, Graziano Pelle and Victor Wanyama.
The Saints drew 1-1 at home to Watford last week to kick-off their season and face a tough task to register their first victory tonight, although they did win 1-0 at Old Trafford the last time these two teams met in January.
BREAKING TEAM NEWS: Paul Pogba starts for Manchester United. The world-record signing will make his second debut for the club from the starting XI.
So, United's only change sees Pogba come into the team at the expense of Herrera. Key centre-back Smalling returns to the bench, where new signing Mkhitaryan remains.
Southampton make two alterations. In come Hojbjerg and captain Fonte – who has been linked with United in rumours discussed by Puel in his pre-match media conference - in place of Ward-Prowse and Yoshida.
Ibrahimovic's 36th-minute header from an excellent Rooney cross has United 1-0 up at Old Trafford after 45 minutes.
OPTA STAT: Three of Ibrahimovic's last five league goals have been with his head - this after none of his previous 19 had come through headers.
A relatively quiet first period was lit up by the goal. Otherwise, possession has been relatively even (Southampton have 53%), while United have had three attempts on target compared to the Saints' one. Pogba has looked increasingly lively and enjoyed some good moments.
Another interesting nugget from Opta: Manchester United have never lost a Premier League game that they have been leading at half-time at Old Trafford (252 games before tonight - W238 D14).
FULL-TIME: Manchester United 2-0 Southampton
Manchester United record a comfortable victory thanks to a goal in each half - a header and a penalty - from Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Despite having less of the ball, United were deserving winners and Paul Pogba played the full match, putting in a strong performance on his return to the club. Jose Mourinho will have little to complain about when he reviews the match. Southampton, meanwhile, will look for a response next time out when they face Sunderland after a tame display.
That concludes our live coverage this evening. Thank you for joining us!
