We're underway in this Europa League contest.
Good evening and welcome to the live commentary of the Europa League clash between Viktoria Plzen and Roma.
Viktoria Plzen missed out on a place in the Champions League after being defeated by Ludogorets in their playoff encounter, forcing the Czech outfit to compete in the Europa League this term. They will face no easy task in this tournament, having being placed alongside Roma, Austria Wien and Astra Giurgiu in Group E.
Roma were also dumped out of the Champions League before the group stage, losing on aggregate to Porto, suffering a heavy 3-0 defeat to the Portuguese club at the Stadio Olimpico. They reached the quarter-finals of the tournament in 2015, but will be eyeing a better performance this time around.
The team news has been announced and we'll start with the home side.
Both teams have enjoyed strong starts to their respective league campaigns, with Viktoria currently third in the Czech Liga after taking 13 points from their opening six matches. Meanwhile, Roma are third in Serie A, having recorded two victories and a draw in their three matches thus far.
Roma: (4-3-3): Alisson; Bruno Peres, Manolas, Fazio, Juan Jesus; Gerson, Paredes, Nainggolan; Iturbe, Perotti, El Shaarawy.
Roma subs: Seck, Dzeko, Strootman, Szczesny, Florenzi, Salah, Totti.
Viktoria have made three changes to their side from their victory over Liberec at the weekend. Petr Bolek starts between the sticks, while Martin Zeman and Ergys Kace also come into the line-up.
Roma have made five changes to their line-up from their weekend win over Sampdoria. Daniele De Rossi, Alessandro Florenzi, Mohamed Salah, Wojciech Szczesny and Kevin Strootman all drop out of the team as Alisson, Federico Fazio, Leandro Paredes, Gerson and Juan Iturbe get the nod to start.
The players are out on the pitch, so we should be underway shortly.
It's all square at the break in this Europa League group stage contest. Roma enjoyed the perfect start to the game when Diego Perotti handed them the lead from the penalty spot with the coolest of finishes. However, their lead would last only seven minutes as Marek Bakos brought Plzen level, leaving the game delicately balanced at the interval.
The players are back out for the second half, so we should be underway shortly.
FULL-TIME: VIKTORIA PLZEN 1-1 ROMA
Both sides earn a share of the spoils as they cannot produce a moment of quality in the second half to break the stalemate. Viktoria Plzen will be pleased with the point as Marek Bakos strike cancelled out Diego Perotti's early penalty, meaning the two teams are off the mark in the competition in Group E.
Thanks for joining our commentary. Until next time, goodbye.
