Liverpool push forward on one last attack as they try to carve out one last chance on goal, but a swinging cross from the right flank fails to pick out a red shirt and is just about dealt with by Derby, who do well to defend the danger to avoid suffering any more misery on what has been a very tough night for them.

It's thumped towards the edge of the Liverpool penalty area, where it's knocked on towards Bent, but Lucas is there to cut out the danger with a volleyed clearance.
35'
Derby keep getting caught out by the linesman's flag, and it's making life incredibly tough for them on the rare occasions that they push forward. Both full-backs have been pegged back by the visitors whilst both Weimann and Bent have seen very little of the ball thus far.
33'
Firmino is causing the Derby defence all sorts of problems with his pace and trickery, and this time it's Christie who is forced into thumping the ball out of play under pressure from the Brazilian. Again, a curling cross flies into the heart of the penalty area from the resulting corner, but it fails to result in a chance on goal for the Reds.

Clyne, who has been one of Liverpool's most dangerous attacking players thus far, once again peels off over on the right before swinging a dangerous cross into the middle of the penalty area. It looks set to find one of three red shirts in front of goal, but Baird is there to head the ball over the top of the crossbar and out for a corner.
22'
Sloppy play by Liverpool allows Derby to pick up the ball over on the left wing before Weimann pokes a dangerous pass into the path of Bent. The striker charges towards Matip and tries to beat the centre-back to the ball, but before he's able to do so the linesman's flag is quickly raised for offside.
21'
After bossing possession in the opening minutes and looking like the most likely team to score, Liverpool seem to have taken their foot off the pedal slightly and are now struggling to find a way through Derby's resolute back line. The hosts look well organised and are making life very tough for their opponents, who have created little since Firmino's long-range strike.
19'
Clyne picks up the ball in a pocket of space deep down the right wing and immediately pokes a lovely pass into the path of Coutinho. The Brazilian makes a great run into the Derby penalty to reach the ball before heading towards the byline, but he holds on to it for far too long and ends up running it out of play before he can unleash a cross.
17'
Henderson makes his way back on to the pitch and the game resumes once again. Liverpool revert to playing the ball around patiently inside their own half of the pitch before a bad ball almost tees up Bent, but Karius does well to read the danger before thumping the ball back up the pitch.
16'
There's a brief break in play as Henderson receives medical treatment after being clattered into by Bent. The Liverpool captain doesn't look entirely comfortable after going down heavily, but he should be able to continue after a few moments on the sideline.
14'
Lucas drags Hughes down from behind and gives away a free-kick in a dangerous position over on the left wing. Butterfield steps up and sends a deep cross into the heart of the penalty area, where it finds Johnson, but the midfielder's downward header isn't powerful enough to trouble Karius.
12'
Derby do well to get deep down the left flank, with Hughes busying himself with a battle against Matip. The Liverpool defender initially comes out on top but the hosts quickly win back possession and push forward once again, but Olsson gives Johnson plenty to deal with by sending a poor pass his way and the midfielder is just about able to stop the ball from finding Origi.
10'
A poor pass from Coutinho is easily cut out by Johnson, who then immediately kick-starts a Derby counter-attack. Butterfield charges down the right wing on a wonderful run before trying to take on Grujic, but the youngster sticks to the midfielder well before dispossessing him with a great sliding tackle.
9'
Derby lose possession on the halfway line, allowing Liverpool to hit them on a quick counter-attack. The visitors move the ball around well before Firmino finds himself in a pocket of space just outside of the penalty area, but the Brazilian's swerving strike ends up curling just wide of the far post.
7'
After spending the opening seven minutes camped on the back foot, Derby are finally able to win possession and push forward on their first attack of the game. It quickly fizzes out, however, and the hosts are forced into working the ball all the way back to Mitchell, who then sends a pass right on to the chest of Klavan.
5'
Liverpool come back once again and win themselves a corner over on the right wing. It's taken quickly and sent short to Coutinho, who then swings a deep cross into the penalty area, but, once again, the hosts do well to deal with the danger.
4'
The throw-in is taken quickly and immediately worked over to Henderson, who is in a good position on the edge of the Derby box. The captain immediately rifles a rocket of a shot that flies towards the roof of the net, but there's slightly too much power on the effort and it ends up sailing over the top of the crossbar. The midfielder screams for a corner claiming that it had taken a deflection, but the referee doesn't agree and awards a goal-kick.
3'
Liverpool embark on a patient attacking move as they slowly pass the ball from one flank to the other in search of a pocket of space. Lucas eventually decides to send a lofted pass over towards Moreno, but Christie is there to cut out the danger with a headed clearance that results in a throw-in for the visitors.

And we're off! Liverpool get us underway, attacking from left to right.
Good evening and welcome to our live text commentary of today’s EFL Cup third round game between Derby County and Liverpool at the iPro Stadium.
That narrow win was the last for Derby, who are without a victory in their previous four Championship games. Three of those - against Burton, Newcastle United and Ipswich Town, respectively - ended in defeats, whilst last weekend saw Bristol City hold Nigel Pearson’s men to a frustrating 1-1 draw.
The second round of the EFL Cup couldn’t have gone any differently for the two sides that meet here today. For Liverpool, it was a comfortable and enjoyable affair that ended in an easy 5-0 thrashing of Burton Albion. But for Derby, they were taken to penalties by fourth-tier Carlisle United, resulting in an epic shootout that the Rams eventually won 14-13.
It’s over 17 years since Derby last beat Liverpool, whilst only one of the last eight meetings between the sides has failed to result in a Reds victory. The two clubs haven’t met one another since the Rams last featured in the top tier back in 2007, and that game, on this very ground, ended in a narrow 2-1 win for the visitors thanks to a last-minute Steven Gerrard goal.
It’s been a completely different month for Liverpool, however, as their comfortable win in the last round was followed by victories against Leicester City and Chelsea as well as a hard-fought draw away to Tottenham Hotspur. The Reds’ positive start to the Premier League season has sent them up to sixth place in the table, and they will be confident about their chances of being able to continue their EFL Cup run with another win here tonight.
Nigel Pearson has decided to make five changes to the Derby side that started the draw against Bristol City on the weekend, with Jonathan Mitchell, Chris Baird, Bradley Johnson, Andreas Weimann and Darren Bent coming into the starting line-up to replace Scott Carson, Craig Bryson, Ikechi Anya, Matej Vydra and James Wilson, respectively.
Meanwhile, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has made just seven alterations to the team that featured against Chelsea in their last outing, with Simon Mignolet, Dejan Lovren, James Milner, Adam Lallana, Georginio Wijnaldum, Sadio Mane and Daniel Sturridge all making way for Loris Karius, Ragnar Klavan, Alberto Moreno, Lucas Leiva, Marko Grujic, Divock Origi and Roberto Firmino, respectively.
The two sides are making their way out onto the pitch, with just a few minutes to go until kick-off.
HALF-TIME: DERBY COUNTY 0-1 LIVERPOOL
Bar the last five or so minutes, it's been a relatively comfortable first half for Liverpool, who have bossed possession for Derby and made life difficult for the Championship with plenty of slick passing in advanced areas. However, the hosts enjoyed a short positive spell at the end of the period and will be hoping to build on that after the break as they desperately try to find a way back into the game.
The two teams are making their way back out on to the pitch ahead of the start of the second half. Neither side have made any substitutions during the half-time break.
FULL-TIME: DERBY COUNTY 0-3 LIVERPOOL
In the end, it was a very comfortable evening for Liverpool, who were given little to think about by a Derby side that failed to cause their opponents any real problems. Up front, Firmino and Coutinho constantly ran riot in front of goal to make life incredibly difficult for the hosts, whilst, at the other end of the pitch, Karius had little to deal with due to Derby's struggles in front of goal. As a result, the Premier League side are deserved victors and head into the fourth round of the competition.
