Another booking for Atleti, and it's Thomas Partey who is on the receiving end for upending Juanmi.
90'
Fernando Torres gets yellow.
The excellent Zuruzuta, who has been absolutely everywhere in the middle of the park, is tripped by Torres, and the Atleti substitute finds himself in the referee's notebook.
89'
Juanmi enters the game and replaces Willian José.
Juanmi has been brought on for Willian Jose, and both goalscorers are off the pitch.
88'
Atletico are completely out of ideas, and it looks like time has run out on them as well. Simeone's expression has not changed in quite a while - I won't want to be a Rojiblancos player in that dressing room at full time though.
86'
SAVE BY RULLI! La Real's goalkeeper finally has something to do in the second period, as Carrasco cuts in from the right flank to crack an effort on goal, but the keeper pushes it just away from a few onrushing attackers.
84'
Simeone's first few years in charge of Atleti were nothing but praise, but now that he's established this side as one of the best in Europe, he has faced some criticism for failing to get them firing in attack. We've seen evidence of that aplenty this afternoon.
82'
David Concha enters the game and replaces C. Vela.
Vela, job done and then some, is brought off for Concha.
80'
Sergio Canales gets yellow.
Canales has been booked for a foul on Partey.
79'
Atletico Madrid are on course for a second consecutive away defeat, unless something changes in the 11 minutes or so that remain. La Real don't have to do anything more than stand pat.
77'
A poor pass in midfield presents Sociedad with the chance to counter. Oyarzabal has the ball and is on his bike down the right, but had he got his head up in time, he would have seen Willian Jose unmarked in the centre.
Minute
Description
75'
Penalty goal scored by Willian José for Real Sociedad!
INTO THE BACK OF THE NET! Vela went bottom-right, so Willian Jose goes top-right. Oblak guesses wrong again, and the home side have what looks like an unassailable lead!
73'
Sergio Canales enters the game and replaces Xabi Prieto.
T. Partey enters the game and replaces Gabi.
Partey will replace Gabi.
Canales is also on for Xabi Prieto.
ANOTHER PENALTY FOR LA REAL! Vela takes the ball in stride inside the area and has Godin fooled, before he beats Correa, who trips him up clumsily. For the second time in the game, the hosts turn to the spot.
71'
DECENT OPENING! Atletico finally fashion something positive as the ball is hoisted into the area by Correa, but some good defending from Mikel Gonzalez gets the ball clear ahead of the forwards.
69'
Just over 20 minutes to go here, and there seems to be little adjustment coming from the visitors. They normally rely on Griezmann to create something out of nothing in these situations, but he's been flat as a puncture this afternoon.
68'
Juanfran gets yellow.
Juanfran is the latest player to be booked.
67'
Fernando Torres enters the game and replaces K. Gameiro.
Torres has indeed been chosen to replace Gameiro, who has fallen off after an active first period.
66'
Vela is in the thick of the action again, going in for the ball against Filipe Luis, with the full-back catching him from behind. Another booking looks to be following, but the referee stands pat.
65'
C. Vela gets yellow.
Rulli has been a virtual spectator, and gets one of his first touches of the second period from a back-pass. Moments later, Xabi Prieto goes inside Savic and tries to free Oyarzabal down the blind side of his man, but it's intercepted.
Vela gets carded for failing to pull out of a challenge on Godin.
63'
Carlos Vela tries to skip past Godin, but couldn't quite manage it as the defender puts in a commanding challenge to get rid of the danger. Atleti need something to change, and fast.
61'
Á. Correa enters the game and replaces Saúl.
Vela is on the attack for the home side and he doesn't go too far away from causing Oblak to worry! At the moment, it's looking more likely for the hosts to get a second than the vicitors to tie things up.
Correa has been summoned in place of Saul.
59'
D. Godín gets yellow.
Surprisingly it's taken nearly an hour for the referee to reach into his pocket to fish out the yellow card for the first time. Godin is the guilty party after he upended Xabi Prieto.
56'
An opening goal was just what this game needed. Given how tight it's been, it's no surprise to see it come from a dead-ball situation. Now Atleti have no choice but to respond in attack.
54'
Penalty goal scored by C. Vela for Real Sociedad!
CALMLY DONE BY VELA! The Mexican rolls the ball into the bottom-right corner, with Oblak completely wrong-footed by that, not even diving, but hopping in the opposite direction!
53'
PENALTY TO LA REAL! Yuri was the man who made inroads into the penalty area, and he took Gabi on for pace, and the veteran midfielder had no choice but to trip him up. Vela steps up...
52'
GOOD CHANCE! Koke schemes on the ball and spots Carrasco making a run down the blindside of the full-back. He puts the pass in a good place, but the wide man slams it off the mark!
50'
There's not a great deal of change to the script from what we saw in the first half. It's been very even, give-and-take, with both sides swapping attacks without really troubling either keeper.
48'
No changes at the break from either manager, although there's attacking options in reserve like Canales and Torres if they feel like opening things up a little more. Slow restart to the game.
46'
Off we go again!
44'
Savic just does enough to put Willian Jose off a shot, getting his head to the ball to block the striker, who was also challenging for the cross. Gabi then gets in position to clean up the scraps.
41'
Sociedad are keeping very compact with their defensive four, with the winger on the weak side also dropping deep, essentially forming a back five. It's contributing to the tight nature of this game.
39'
Possession evens itself out as it's split 50-50 as we approach half time. Earlier in the game, it was almost 70-30 to the home side, but Atleti have seen a lot of the ball during the last 10 minutes.
37'
Just a reminder that Atletico Madrid were three points behind Real Madrid at the start of play. If results go the way of Sevilla and Villarreal this week, los Rojiblancos could potentially drop out of the top four.
34'
Good response this from the home side, who did not let Atleti keep them under pressure for long. You get the feeling that Juanfran's flank is a bit of a weak link for the visitors at the moment.
32'
VELA! The game is really starting to open up here as the Mexican takes aim from 20 yards after striding forward, but he can't find the target, with the ball whistling the wrong side of the post!
30'
Gamiero has also clipped the post here. Atletico have been relentless in the last five minutes or so, and they feel that they should be ahead. Sociedad need to be extremely careful here.
28'
BIG CHANCE FOR ATLETI! Gameiro scampers down the left side of the pitch and manages to squeeze a finish past the keeper, but it's cleared off the line by the defence under significant pressure!
26'
Moment of panic for the home side in the area as Rulli flaps at a cross, which is cleared, but Atleti keep the pressure up. Gameiro has a snap shot from the top of the box, and the keeper does better this time, pushing it away.
24'
Atletico haven't really been able to get Griezmann involved in the game, with the Frenchman often finding himself pinned between the two centre-backs when his side have been in possession.
22'
The ball is taken forward by Xabi Prieto down the left-hand side. He hooks a good early cross into the area that's above the head of Savic, but it's ultimately too close to Oblak, who shows good command of his area.
20'
Atleti win a free-kick just outside of shooting range, so Koke decides to clip it into the area. It's headed only as far as Godin outside the area, but just as he volleys wide, the whistle blows for an offside.
18'
How much longer until the referee decides that he can't keep his yellow card sheathed any more? There's not really been any terrible challenges, but more an accumulation of fouls from both sides.
16'
The game is starting to open up a little now, with la Real finding space out on the left-hand side to get some crosses into the penalty area. However, Oblak is sure with his handling from the high ball.
13'
We haven't seen a good chance yet, with the ball getting bogged down in midfield. Both teams are defending in an accomplished manner, and it already appears that there will only be the odd goal in this.
11'
The challenges are starting to come in thick and fast. With the waterlogged pitch, players need no second invitation to slide in on tackles that they would normally remain upright for.
9'
It started raining yesterday evening in Basque country, and the effects of the weather on the pitch are clear, with the ball's movement being hampered by the extent of water out on the field.
7'
Zurutuza sees the ball present itself near the top of the box, and he decides to let fly, but curls his effort over the bar. Sociedad are starting to string some passes together, with Vela getting involved.
5'
It's been a very measured start from Atletico Madrid, who are controlling the ball in better areas than the opposition. but reluctant to get their full-backs forward in order to protect their defensive shape.
3'
FIRST CHANCE OF THE GAME! The visitors create an opening right away, although they could have done with a little more accuracy from Godin, who failed to keep his header down.
1'
And we're off!
Hello and welcome to our live coverage of the Liga encounter between Real Sociedad and Atletico Madrid. Five points and three places separate the sides in the table in what is sure to be a closely fought clash.
Since losing at home to Real Madrid on matchday one, Sociedad have yet to taste defeat at the Anoeta. They've won their last two games in the league, keeping a pair of clean sheets to boot.
A 1-0 loss to Sevilla two weeks ago was Atleti's first defeat of the domestic campaign, and dropped them to third place, four points off leaders Real Madrid. With only six goals conceded, they're the league's best defensive side, although they've only won two of five away from home.
Real Sociedad (4-3-3): Rulli; Carlos Martinez, Raul Navas, Mikel Gonzalez, Yuri; Xabi Prieto, Illarramendi, Zurutuza; Vela, Willian Jose, Mikel Oyarzabal.
Atletico Madrid subs: Tiago, Barragan, Vrsaljko, Correa, Partey, Torres, Hernandez.
Inigo Martinez is suspended for the hosts after picking up his fifth yellow of the season, while Markel Bergara also misses out due to injury. The match also cones too soon for Esteban Granero and Joseba Zaluda. Xabi Prieto and Asier Illarramendi are therefore the chosen midfield pair.
Stefan Savic had his ban overturned after a sending off against Malaga last time out and starts in defence, with Koke also returning to the team from suspension. Antoine Griezmann leads the line against the club where he first made his name as one of the league's most exciting attackers.
Right on the 45-minute mark, the referee signals for half time. No goals at the Anoeta in a game between two very evenly matched teams. Both sides will fancy their chances in the second half given how close it's been, and you get the sense that there won't be more than a goal in this. Stay tuned for the restart shortly.
And that will do it from the Anoeta, with Real Sociedad clinching a massive win against Atletico Madrid, thanks to penalties in the second half from Vela and Willian Jose. That keeps them knocking on the door of the top four, while los Rojiblancos face the prospect of losing further ground on Barcelona and Real Madrid. That's it from us, thanks for tuning in!
