Time is almost up here at St Mary's and it looks like Liverpool have run out of ideas. Coutinho plays a pass that's too heavy for Sturridge, and that looks like it will be that as it goes out for a goal-kick.
90' +1
D. Origi enters the game and replaces S. Mané.
Origi is thrown on late for Mane.
90'
A late counter-attack for the home side has the visiting fans sweating. Redmond has the ball in a good position on the edge of the area bur despite being urged to shoot by the crowd, he takes too long and the momentum disappears.
88'
Every time Liverpool throw the ball into the area, it's repelled by the home side. All 11 players are back in the defensive half. All eyes in the ground are on the game clock and the assistant referee.
86'
Southampton have had one or two counter-attacks in the latter stages that have briefly given them hope of nicking a winner. More importantly, it gets the ball far away from their own goal.
84'
Southampton are so very nearly there. Liverpool continue to try and play their way through the opposition, but it's just not happened for them. Would be cruel on the Saints to concede at this stage.
82'
GOOD SAVE AGAIN FROM FORSTER! The ball set up nicely for Coutinho at the top of the box but Romeu, aware of his prowess from there, makes the block. It falls to Firmino, who angles it for the top corner, but it's pushed away!
80'
SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE OPENER! Another golden chance for Liverpool. Sturridge shows great feet to beat Redmond to the byline and he stands a cross to the back post where Clyne arrives ahead of a sleeping Long, but he heads it wide!
78'
D. Sturridge enters the game and replaces E. Can.
Philippe Coutinho gets yellow.
H. Reed enters the game and replaces P. Højbjerg.
Coutinho picks off Redmond in plain view of the referee and is booked.
Sturridge is also on for Can.
Reed has been introduced for Hojbjerg.
77'
Seventh corner of the game for the Reds as a cross from Milner is deflected clear. Once again, the home side deal with the dead-ball delivery. Time starting to run out for Klopp and his team.
Minute
Description
75'
J. Rodríguez enters the game and replaces C. Austin.
Austin, who had that knock early in the first half, has lasted until the 75-minute mark, but he's clearly run out of gas. Puel has chosen Jay Rodriguez as his replacement.
73'
It's all hands to the pump for Sunderland as Liverpool win corner after corner. Their defence is standing firm though, and in truth, the visitors haven't managed as many chances as their dominance of the ball suggests.
70'
The good news for Liverpool is that Manchester City and Crystal Palace are also locked at 1-1 at Selhurst Park. With Arsenal also dropping (or salvaging) points at Manchester United, the opportunity is there for the Reds to solidify their status as league leaders.
68'
Dangerous times for the home side to navigate as Liverpool continue to swarm all around them. The presence of Long has given them another outlet on the counter-attack however.
66'
S. Long enters the game and replaces S. Boufal.
Boufal has been brought off and on comes Long.
65'
TERRIBLE MISS! Firmino really should have put Liverpool ahead. Coutinho burst down the left-hand side and his pass into the box saw Mane take Fonte out of the equation. The former Hoffenheim man had acres of space but put it wide.
63'
WIDE OF THE MARK! Can takes aim from the far side but misses the target. It sums up the visitors at the moment - creating their fair share of openings but lacking a finishing touch.
61'
Cédric Soares gets yellow.
I've already sung the praises of Cedric in this game, but he makes his first mistake after an hour, tugging back the shirt of Coutinho and earning himself a yellow card.
59'
Just a reminder from Southampton on that last chance that they do have something to offer on the counter attack. Still, you get the overwhelming feeling that this game is going to be first goal wins.
57'
Southampton survive two dangerous balls into the area and then launch an attack of their own down at the other end of the field. Cedric gets forward to deliver a cross that Austin really should have hit the target from.
55'
It's been a strange performance from Southampton. There's been some excellent individual displays from Van Dijk and Cedric, but some glaring individual mistakes from the likes of Boufal.
52'
Klopp will be pleased with what his side have offered in the second half. What the opening period probably made clear is that the home side were not offering anything in attack.
50'
BIG CHANCE! Probably Liverpool's best opening of the game, but Coutinho failed to capitalise. A turnover presented the ball to Firmino, who slid it to his compatriot, but he scuffed his shot under pressure from Fonte from close range!
48'
Liverpool get on the attack right away at the start of the second half, with Firmino tussling with Van Dijk but losing their appeals for a penalty. Moments later, Mane drifts to the left and angles a low shot that Forster saves.
46'
And we're back.
45'
Milner bides his time on the ball before laying it off to Wijnaldum, who hits an effort that's always rising, and ultimately doesn't trouble Forster. Looks like we'll be ending the first half goalless.
43'
The problem for Southampton is that there's no one in support on the few occasions when they've broken forward with one of their attackers. Austin and then Redmomd were both isolated on successive counters.
41'
MAGNIFICENT DEFENDING! Mane beats Austin for pace far too easily, and it appears that he's in the clear. But just as he winds up for the shot, it's blocked on the slide by the excellent Van Dijk.
39'
Claude Puel will be pleased with what his side has done in defence so far, with Liverpool's only chances coming from obvious and seemingly fixable mistakes. They have done basically nothing in the final third though.
37'
Turnover here from Boufal leads to a chance for the opposition. Coutinho is sent down the line and dinks a cross back into the box, but it's cleared away from trouble by Cedric, who has done that well in this game.
34'
Austin is labouring on here, doing everything he can to continue after picking up a knock. Shane Long would be the natural replacement if he does go off, but I feel that he'll wait until half-time.
32'
Another shot attempt for Liverpool as Coutinho shifts the ball into space before letting fly, but he cut under his shot too much and it was well wide in the end. Southampton not too worried about that.
30'
A small turnover in the centre of the park almost lets Boufal in, but he just could not bring it into his stride. The play from both sides is a bit disjointed at the moment as we pass the half-hour mark.
28'
GOOD SAVE! Mane shifts his body to run into a pocket of space at the top of the box, and he lashes an effort on goal, which is tipped over the crossbar at full stretch by Forster. Commendable save.
26'
Van Dijk runs Firmino off a pass and Southampton try to turn that momentum into an attack, but Hojbjerg loses the ball, and soon after, Wijnaldum wins a free kick off Romeu. Competitive out there.
24'
Van Dijk has been a figure of composure so far, getting first to every attempted killer ball. He's one of the best defenders in the league in my book, and he's showing it here - can he keep it up though?
21'
Liverpool are back on the ball and are slowing it down as they attempt to snuff out that Southampton flurry. Klopp knows that his side can't go at full throttle for 90 minutes, although their best stuff comes at a considerably higher tempo then this.
19'
Nervous times in the back four for Liverpool as a cross from Cedric is sent to the centre of the area, where Austin is pinned between two defendes, leading to an awkward punch clear for Forster.
16'
Southampton manufacture their first attack as Boufal drifts to the left-hand side, turns on a dime and tries to hook a ball beyond the defence, but it was well-read by Lovren, who headed clear.
14'
The crowd has gone a bit flat here as they witness their side struggle to string passes together in the final third. Karius has not had a single thing to do so far, with the ball mostly in the opposite half.
11'
Mane links well with Can to send the ball down the line for Clyne, who continues the momentum with a first-time pass into the box that is nearly left for Firmino before the defence clears.
9'
Southampton continue to sit back and invite Liverpool onto them. They're apparently confident in their ability to spring forward on the counter, and are also very wary of the pace in Liverpool's front three.
7'
The fitness of Coutino and Firmino in the Liverpool frontline will be important after a taxing international break. The latter has scored six times so far this season and is thriving under Klopp.
5'
Liverpool have settled into some decent possession, although it's generally been a slow progress forward for them. They've retained the ball well but Southampton's defensive shape is good.
3'
Good energy by Liverpool to start the game, although the first glimpse of a chance falls to the home side, as a cross from Cedric Soares floats into the area but doesn't find any takers.
1'
Off we go!
Hello and welcome to our live commentary of the Premier League fixture between Southampton and Liverpool at St Mary's. The hosts have lost two straight, and face a side that started the matchday on top of the table.
Southampton are well on their wya to the knockout stages of the Europa League, while they've also progressed to the last eight of the EFL Cup. However, they're only in 10th place in the league on 13 points - which is their deficit to tonight's opponents at the start of play.
Liverpool have made their best start to the season in eight years, and top the table for the first time since May 2014. Thirty goals in 11 games have seen the Reds on a tear under Jurgen Klopp, although there are eight sides in the league that have a better defensive record than their 14 goals conceded.
Liverpool subs: Sturridge, Grujic, Klavan, Moreno, Lucas, Mignolet, Origi.
Dusan Tadic's broken nose against Wales has ruled him out of this match. Maya Yoshida and Jordy Claise also drop out of the XI, with Cedric Soares and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg coming into the team.
Adam Lallana picked up an injury during the international break and will miss out, with Georginio Wijnaldum entering the side in his place. Philippe Coutinho also starts, while Dejan Lovren is back in the centre of defence.
And that will do it for the first half, as Southampton frustrate Liverpool and hold them to a stalemate. Chances have been few and far between, falling exclusively to the visitors, with the Saints' defensive efforts resulting in an abandonment of their attacking interests. Is there to be a breakthrough in the second half?
And that will do it from St Mary's as Southampton grind out a goalless draw against a frustrated Liverpool. The Reds have no one but themselves to blame after missing their fair share of chances. It may still be enough to keep them top, depending on results elsewhere. That's all from us, thanks for tuning in!
