Penalty shootout: A. Esswein (Hertha Berlin) scored!

Penalty shootout: C. Pulišić (Borussia Dortmund) missed!
121'
Penalty shootout: O. Dembélé (Borussia Dortmund) scored!
120'
Penalty shootout: F. Lustenberger (Hertha Berlin) missed!
That dismissal will not affect Dortmund too much, as Sokratis was probably right at the bottom of their preferred penalty takers.
119'
S. Papastathopoulos gets yellow.
S. Papastathopoulos gets a second yellow card and is sent off.
Sokratis is booked for complaining.
SOKRATIS HAS BEEN SENT OFF! That was pure petulance from the Greek defender. He was booked for dissent and continued to jaw away at the referee, leading to a second booking straight away.
118'
S. Allagui enters the game and replaces J. Schieber.
Interesting. The substitute Schieber has himself been substituted for Sami Allagui. He must be one hell of a penalty taker.
115'
Aubameyang drops deep to pick up possession, but his throughball is easily cleared away. Moments later, he loses a header against a defender.
113'
Penalties continue to loom large over the horizon as neither side seem to have the will or the way to create a final chance to find a winner.
Minute
Description
111'
Castro tries to bend the ball with the outside of his right boot into the area. Brooks looks to have it covered, but mistimed his jump and concedes a corner with his clearing header.
109'
A little bit of a revival from Hertha in the second period of extra time here. They manage to force Dortmund into some defending for a few minutes.
108'
G. Castro gets yellow.
Castro sees yellow for an agricultural challenge on Esswein.
106'
Off we go again. Good news for Dortmund is that Dembele appears fit enough to play out the remainder of the game.
105'
Dembele is stretchered off to receive further treatment. Dortmund have used all three of their subs, plus the extra one allotted in the additional 30 minutes, so they will be down to 10 men unless the 19-year-old comes back on.
104'
The game is halted as Dembele is down on the deck in need of treatment after pulling up in the middle of a run. He appeared to have slipped, and the referee is signaling for the stretcher.
101'
Magnificent defending again from Brooks, who steps in between Aubameyang and Schurrle to intercept what would have been a pass to put the substitute in the clear.
99'
Hertha have been dreadful in possession whenever htey look to attack, turning the ball over almost instantly in two consecutive plays. This game is there for the taking if Dortmund have the energy to find a goal.
97'
NOT TOO FAR OFF! Dembele's terrific early pass is nearly touched home by Durm, and then comes within inches of slipping past Jarstein anyway.
96'
A. Esswein enters the game and replaces G. Haraguchi.
Haraguci is off and Esswein is on.
95'
This extra-time period is going to be a test of endurance, with both sets of players already exhibiting visible signs of fatigue. One gol will surely do it.
93'
Castro keeps the forward momentum going as he drives from the right into the centre, but his low pass to Dembele is intercepted.
91'
Here we go again.
90' +2
Another poor decision from Reus. He had the ball just on the edge of the area and time and space to let fly, but tried to squeeze it into a teammate, only to see the ball intercepted and cleared.
90'
A. Schürrle enters the game and replaces M. Reus.
The Dortmund players are absolutely exhausted. The hosts have a good chance on the counter as Aubameyang pings the ball towards Reus, but the forward lacks the legs to beat Pekarik.
Schurrle is on for Reus in the extra-time period.
87'
Dortmund win a corner that finds its way to Reus at the back post, but the attacker took his eye off the ball for a second and slices it high into the stands.
85'
Five minutes remaining and all signs are pointing to extra time. Hertha have abandoned all attacking interest but are doing a great job of limiting the genuine chances for BVB in the closing stages.
84'
F. Lustenberger enters the game and replaces P. Skjelbred.
Fabian Lustenberger has been brought on for Skjelbred.
82'
DEMBELE MISSES THE TARGET! That should have been the tie done and dusted! A cross from Reus is deflected into the path of the youngster, and he opens his body up to side-foot the ball the wrong side of the post.
80'
Ten minutes plus stoppage time to go now. That's all the time that someone has to find a winner before we head into an additional 30 minutes. The chances have dried up the longer this has gone on.
78'
Marc Bartra gets yellow.
Darida feels the full force of a Bartra challenge on the inside of his thigh, and the defender goes into the book.
77'
G. Castro enters the game and replaces Raphaël Guerreiro.
Guerreiro is withdranw and on comes Gonzalo Castro.
76'
The crowd feel incensed as another call goes against Dortmund. Brooks and Reus both go for the ball, and the BVB attacker goes down just inside the area. The referee deems it a foul in favour of Hertha.
74'
Tuchel will not like how the match appears to be petering out. There's a moment of excitement as Pulisic appears to nip the ball off Haraguchi on the byline, but the referee calls a foul.
71'
Aubameyang is brought down from behind by Langkamp, but the referee will take no further action other than awarding Dortmund a free-kick. Moments later, the home side turn it over.
69'
Guerreiro tries to spread a pass with the outside of his boot for Aubameyang to race clear on goal, but not for the first time this evening, Brooks shows impeccable timing to intercept it.
67'
STINGER! Guerreiro takes aim from at least 30 yards, and his effort is heading for the top corner, but a fingertip save from Jarstein thwarts him! Hertha scare themselves when defending the resulting corner but they survive.
65'
A cross from the right-hand side is put well over the top and Hertha can outlast another Dortmund attack. The ball is soon right back at them though. One-way traffic at the moment.
63'
Not a whole lot happening out on the pitch at the moment. Tuchel's substitutions did provide Dortmund with a noticeable boost, and the question is, can they sustain it and find a winner?
62'
M. Mittelstädt gets yellow.
Mittelstadt is booked for a challenge on Pulisic.
60'
J. Schieber enters the game and replaces V. Ibišević.
GOAL RULED OUT! Reus is put through again, and Aubameyang's low finish is saved by Jarstein. They both get up for the rebound, but the keeper claws it back from the line before the striker illegally stabs it out of his hands and into the back of the net.
Ibisevis is taken off as Julian Schieber makes an appearance off the bench against his former club.
58'
WIDE OF THE MARK! Haraguchi takes aim from the edge of the area but drags his effort around the post. We haven't seen much of Hertha as an attacking force in a long while now.
56'
Poor decision making from Reus. Durm played a lovely reverse ball to give him a clear sight on goal, but he was too unselfish, sending a wayward pass to the back post when he should have picked out the target himself.
54'
Reus combines neatly with Pulisic, and finds Dembele inside the D. The youngster lays the ball off to no one in particular before he's challenged, but the referee doesn't see fit to award a foul.
52'
V. Darida gets yellow.
That was a pretty obvious foul from Darida, who grabbed a handful of Guerreiro's shirt to stop a counter-attack. Yellow card for the midfielder.
51'
DORTMUND ATTACK BUT IT'S DIVERTED OVER! Dembele attacks at pace once again, cutting this way and that before laying the ball off for the onrushing Reus to hit, but it's deflected over the crossbar!
49'
That goal came so fast that I didn't even have time to look at Dortmund's two changes. It looks like Tuchel has reverted to a back four, setting his team up in a 4-3-3 shape. The net sum of their double substitution is an extra attacker and one less defender.
47'
M. Reus has scored a goal for Borussia Dortmund! Assist by C. Pulišić.
Good awareness from the youngster.
DORTMUND DRAW LEVEL! Well that didn't take long, did it! A pass from the back is threaded in for Dembele, who cracks his finish onto the post. He recovers though, and gets the ball to Pulisic, who tees up Reus for the equaliser!
46'
M. Ginter enters the game and replaces M. Schmelzer.
C. Pulišić enters the game and replaces Ł. Piszczek.
Matthias Ginter is on for Schmelzer.
Pulisic has also been introduced for Piszczek.
We're underway again.
45'
Haraguchi does well to evade the pressure of two players in the centre and shift play to the right flank. He bides his time before feeding Skjelbred on the overlap, but his low cross to Kalou is taken by Burki.
43'
Time is running out fast in the first half, and Dortmund have not come close to drawing level since conceding the opening goal via Kalou. Darida sends another warning their way with a drive from distance that skids wide.
41'
The flag is raised as Weigl's ball over the top is headed across goal by Reus and stroked into the back of the net by Aubameyang. Replays show that the decision was spot on.
39'
N. Stark gets yellow.
Stark becomes the fourth Hertha player to get booked as he went in late on Guerreiro, who had his back turned.
38'
Dembele, playing centrally today, beats his man on the counter again. He's been effective at doing that all game, but again, he releases an ill-timed ball that is intercepted before Reus can run onto it.
36'
That's three yellow cards in as many minutes as the referee has become heavily involved. There's no love lost between these two sides, and the tenacity is also helping to fire up the players to increase the tempo.
34'
P. Skjelbred gets yellow.
Skjelbred wrestles for possession with Dembele in the centre, and after the players exchange some words, the referee comes over to book the Hertha man for committing the initial foul.
33'
J. Weigl gets yellow.
Just as Darida is about to spin and set his side away on the counter, he's fouled by Weigl. Another booking.
32'
Reus whips in the free-kick and Bartra wasn't too far away with a header! There may have been a touch off a defender that wasn't spotted.
31'
P. Pekarík gets yellow.
Pekarik's clearance rebounds off Schmelzer and the Hertha defender, in his haste to clean up the mess, fouls the left-back. He picks up a booking for his troubles.
30'
What will the response from Dortmund be? Hertha will be delighted with taking the lead, allowing them to redouble their defensive efforts at least until half-time. Half-hour gone now and Kalou's goal is the difference.
27'
S. Kalou has scored a goal for Hertha Berlin! Assist by N. Stark.
HERTHA ARE AHEAD! Dortmund were warned, but didn't heed it. Stark has the time and space on the right after being put through by Haraguchi, and sweeps in a cross that Kalou guides home!
Great early ball to catch Dortmund out.
26'
WHAT A MISS. Ibisevic should be ashamed of himself. A corner was headed down by Brooks and met by a solid Burki save, but the striker had the goal at his mercy to convert the rebound, but nodded it over.
24'
Interesting battle developing between Durm and Mittelstadt on the near side, with the Hertha left-back so far doing what has been required to keep his Dormtund counterpart in check.
22'
The tempo of the game has slowed down somewhat as the ball becomes bogged down in the middle of the park. Hertha are still not registering much of a tremor in the attacking third so far.
20'
Two warning signs there for Hertha as Dortmund carve their way right through their centre. Jarstein has been on his game so far, and he'll need to keep it up with the defence looking a little vulnerable.
18'
SPLENDID SAVE! Weigl plays a tremendous throughball that finds Aubameyang peeling away from his marker, but the Gabonese's low finish is diverted around the post by the fingertips of the keeper.
16'
PENALTY? Dortmund go direct as Dembele flicks the ball into the path of Aubameyang, who races through on goal, before tumbling under a challenge from Rune Jarstein. The referee spotted that there was little contact though, and BVB get nothing.
13'
J. Brooks gets yellow.
Dembele spreads the ball ahead to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and is immediately clattered by Brooks. After some consideration, the referee gives the American the first yellow of the game.
12'
IBISEVIC! Sokratis dallies on the ball and is stripped of possession by the striker, who advances on goal but is put off by a recovery challenge from the Greece international and the presence of Roman Burki.
10'
Dortmund continue to dominate the ball and put Hertha under occasional pressure. John Brooks reads an attack well to put Marco Reus off a run into the penalty area.
7'
Dortmund win a free-kick on the right side of the pitch, and it's the first opportunity for Marc Bartra and Sokratis to get forward. They didn't need to bother because Dembele's delivery went right into a Pekarik-sized wall.
5'
Good movement from Weigl to burst through the centre and feed Dembele, who does the same. The ball finds its way to the feet of Aubameyang, who turns into trouble and surrenders possession.
3'
Guerreiro is barged out of the way by Haraguchi, which concedes the first free-kick of the game. It's been almost uninterrupted possession for Dortmund in front of their home fans to start.

Off we go!
Hello and welcome to our live commentary of the DFB-Pokal match between Borussia Dortmund and Hertha Berlin at Signal-Iduna Park. A place in the quarter-finals is up for grabs as the Bundesliga rivals do battle.
Dortmund are coming off a massive victory off RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga over the weekend, which has left them in fourth place. However, they trail leaders Bayern by 12 points - making the title a pipe dream at this point.
Hertha bounced back from back-to-back Bundesliga defeats on the road to Bayer Leverkusen and Freiburg to beat Ingolstadt 1-0 at home, which puts them in sixth, two points behind tonight's opponents.
It's a 3-5-2 from Thomas Tuchel this evening, with Raphael Guerreiro and Ousmane Dembele in midfield, with Julian Weigl anchoring. Erik Durm and Marcel Schmelzer are the wing-backs, with Lukasz Piszczek further behind in the back three.
Vedad Ibisevic leads the line for the visiting side, with veteran Salomon Kalou and Genki Haraguchi on either side of Vladimir Darida in attacking midfield. A lot will depend on Maximilian Mittelstadt and Peter Pakarik in the full-back slots to counter Durm and Schmelzer.
That's a wrap for the first half. Hertha are ahead thanks to a well-taken goal from Kalou. Dortmund have not been at their best, with a double chance for Aubameyang when the score was still goalless about the best that they've managed. A lot to play for in the second half with a place in the quarter-finals on the line. Stay tuned.
And that will do it as the referee calls a halt to proceedings. We're going to extra time to decide who reaches the quarter-finals of the cup. I'll be back shortly for the restart.
The referee calls a brief halt to proceedings as the teams swap sides.
The players crowd around their respective benches to organise for the final stretch.
The referee checks his watch and sends the match into penalties!
Both managers remind their players of the kicking order and we're about set to start.
DEMBELE BURIES IT! He stroked it down the middle as Jarstein dived out of the way.
LUSTENBERGER MISSES! The substitute crashes his kick off the crossbar!
ESSWEIN SMACKS IT HOME! Burki came within inches of saving that powerful kick.
JARSTEIN SAVES IT! Pulisic's penalty lacked confidence and was pushed away.
DARIDA DENIED! Burki gambles and gets the bounce as he makes a fantastic one-handed save!
ALLAGUI GETS LUCKY! Burki saved his terrible penalty but it spun back into the net!
AUBAMEYANG SMOKES IT! Dispatched with ease high into the back of the net.
A marathon night for all concerned is at an end as Dortmund book their spot in the last eight of the DFB-Pokal, thanks to a penalty shootout win over Hertha. It wasn't pretty, but BVB have the chance to reach another cup final. That's the end of our coverage as well, thanks for reading!
KALOU SKIES IT! The veteran can't keep his cool and sends it over the bar! Dortmund are in the quarter-finals!
CASTRO MAKES NO MISTAKE! Slotted into the bottom-right corner and Jarstein did not move.
