Description

Aranguiz darts towards the Germany penalty area before shooting, but Ter Stegen is there to tip the ball round the far post and behind for a corner. The strike looked to be going wide but the goalkeeper didn't want to take any chances.
79'
E. Can enters the game and replaces T. Werner.
Germany have made their first change of the night, and it's a defensive one, with Emre Can coming on to replace Werner.
77'
After a quick check of the VAR by the referee to make sure that Sanchez wasn't fouled, the corner is eventually fired into the box. It isn't fully dealt with by Germany and allows Isla to get a shot away from just outside of the penalty area, but his low effort fails to find a way through a sea of white shirts and can't test Ter Stegen.
75'
E. Vargas gets yellow.
And now Vidal goes close! A deflected Beausejour cross isn't dealt with by the Germany back line and rolls out to Vidal, who immediately unleashes a rocket of a shot that's deflected just over the top of the crossbar by an outstretched leg.
The Chile players were adamant that Sanchez was fouled just as Vidal's shot flew over the crossbar, but the referee isn't interested and shows a yellow card to Vargas for his protestations.
74'
Big chance for Vargas! Aranguiz is left alone in the middle of the pitch and can spin quickly before setting up Vargas. The forward takes a quick touch and then shoots, but his low effort is easily saved by Ter Stegen in the middle of the goal.
72'

68'
Vargas battles with Mustafi deep down the right wing before having to settle for a corner. It's curled into the penalty area and into a dangerous position, but, once again, Ter Stegen is there to punch the ball away.
66'
The resulting free-kick is whipped into the middle of the box and causes plenty of problems for the Chile defence, but they're just about able to deal with the ball after a few nervy moments in front of goal.
65'
G. Jara gets yellow.
Big call by the referee! The man in charge decides to go to the VAR to view the incident between Jara and Werner. The replays show that the Chile defender clearly led with his elbow and gave his opponent an almighty whack, but, somehow, the referee decides it was only a yellow card offence, much to the surprise of the clearly baffled Germany players.
63'
Werner, who hasn't seen much of the ball since the break, charges down the left flank and latches on to a long pass forward. He loses out to Jara and immediately falls to the ground holding his jaw, and it certainly looked as if he received a shoulder to the face.
61'
A slight mistake by Ter Stegen results in the ball bouncing out for a Chile corner. Valencia steps up and curls a dangerous cross into the heart of the box, but the Germany goalkeeper is there to punch it far away from goal.
59'
A. Vidal gets yellow.
J. Kimmich gets yellow.
Kimmich also receives a booking for his part in the coming together.
It's all kicking off! There's a little coming together between Bravo and Kimmich as they battle for the ball, resulting in an almighty fracas taking place. Vidal charges into his Bayern Munich team-mate and pushes him away, earning him a yellow card from a clearly unimpressed referee.
57'
Joshua Kimmich is caught from behind by Beausejour, leaving the referee with no choice but to award Germany a free-kick over on the right wing. It's swung over to the far post by Hector and almost finds Ginter, but Vidal is just about able to blast the ball away from danger at the vital moment.
55'
Draxler goes close! Beausejour loses possession over on the left wing, allowing Germany to counter-attack quickly. Draxler flies through the middle of the pitch and into the penalty area before shooting, but Jara gets a foot on the ball to send it wide of the far post.

Chile have made their first substitution of the game, with Diaz making way for Leonardo Valencia.
51'
Aranguiz is left in a pocket of space in the middle of the pitch and manages to pick out Isla over on the right flank. The full-back then quickly sends a cross into the box and over to Vargas, but the forward's first touch is poor and denies him the opportunity to spin and get a shot away.
49'
Werner breaks down the left flank and latches on to a great pass from Goretzka before cutting inside and taking on Isla, but the defender comes out on top with a great sliding tackle on the edge of the penalty area.
47'
Vidal is caught from behind midway inside the Germany half of the pitch and wins a free-kick for Chile in a promising position. It's sent hort and worked over to Diaz, who is quickly closed down by white shirts and has to settle for a throw-in.
46'
We're underway once again!
45'
The resulting corner is well cleared by Chile, who then try to counter quickly. Sanchez is unable to do so, though, as he's cynically fouled before the referee brings an end to what has been an excellent first half.
44'
Almost another costly mistake by Chile! This time it's Gonzalo Jara who gifts the ball to Germany and allows Goretzka to test Bravo from close range, but this time the goalkeeper is able to get a foot on the ball to stop the Schalke midfielder from making it 2-0.
42'
Isla and Vargas link up really well over on the left flank before the latter swings a dangerous cross over to the far post. Sanchez rises high and manages to reach the ball, but he can't make decent contact with it and Ter Stegen eventually cuts out the danger.
40'
Draxler goes close! Jonas Hector manages to wriggle away from two Chile players before setting up Werner deep down the left wing. The striker heads towards the penalty area before spinning and finding Draxler, who then beats Bravo with a thumping shot that flies just wide of the near post.
38'
Once again, Germany hit Chile on a quick counter-attack. This time it's Goretzka who sets up Werner inside the penalty area, but the latter's first touch is slightly too heavy and results in him being dispossessed by Isla before he can shoot.
36'
Goretzka almost makes it 2-0! Rudy side-foots a beautiful pass into the right-hand side of the Chile box and straight to Goretzka, who takes a quick touch before firing a great strike just wide of the far post.
35'
Vargas drifts out to the right wing and takes on Antonio Rudiger, but he can't get the better of the defender has to settle for a corner. It's whipped into the penalty area and towards Medel, but Werner beats the Inter man to the ball with a towering header.
33'
A poor attempted clearance by Bravo sails out of play for a Germany throw-in. It's sent short before eventually being worked down to Stindl over on the right flank, but he can't get the better of Pablo Hernandez and loses out to the Chile midfielder.
31'
Space opens up for Vidal just outside of the Germany box and he quickly gets a shot away, but, not for the first time this evening, there's slightly too much power behind the midfielder's effort and it sails high over the top of the crossbar.
29'
Beausejour picks up the ball in a pocket of space over on the left flank and quickly whips a cross into the box. It's poorly hit by the full-back, however, and Germany are easily able to clear the danger without too many problems.
27'
Werner breaks into the Chile penalty area once again after a slight mix-up between Isla and Medel at the back, but the linesman's flag is raised as soon as the striker is about to test Claudio Bravo.
25'
Another attempted Chile attack breaks down and allows Julian Draxler to bomb forward on his first attacking move of the evening, but he's unable to penetrate the penalty area and instead loses out to a great sliding tackle by Gary Medel.
24'
Almost a great chance for Aranguiz! Chile move the ball around wonderfully just outside of the Germany penalty area before Isla side-foots a dangerous cross into the middle of the box. It looks set to find Aranguiz, but the midfielder can't make contact with the ball and lets it bounce narrowly past him.
22'
Germany quickly win the ball back from the restart and Stindl tries to pick out Werner inside the penalty area, but the striker's run into the box is slightly mistimed and the linesman's flag is raised as soon as he darts towards it.
20'
L. Stindl has scored a goal for Germany! Assist by T. Werner.
Werner did well to set up Stindl for one of the easiest goals of the midfielder's career, but that was all down to an awful error by Diaz, who completely fell asleep and gifted possession to the Germany number 11.
GOAL! Completely against the run of play, Germany have taken the lead! A truly terrible mistake by Marcelo Diaz sees him run the ball into the feet of Timo Werner on the edge of the Chile box, allowing the RB Leipzig striker to square a pass over to Stindl, who then comfortably slots the ball into the back of an empty net.
19'
Huge opportunity for Sanchez! More poor play by Germany allows Chile to fly forward once again. A 20-yard shot from Vidal is pushed away by Ter Stegen and into the path of Sanchez, who should tap the ball into the back of the net from close range but somehow scuffs his shot wide.
18'
Vidal is bundled over from behind by Leon Goretzka, resulting in a free-kick for Chile in a dangerous position 30 yards away from goal. It's sent short and worked over to Isla, who pulls the trigger from inside the penalty area but isn't able to make decent contact with the ball.
17'
Chile cause plenty of problems on the edge of the Germany box before Jean Beausejour is eventually able to side-foot a cross into the penalty area, but it's turned behind by Matthias Ginter before it can find a red shirt in front of goal.
15'
A bit of space opens up for Stindl, allowing the midfielder to bomb forward on Germany's first attack of the game. He does well to swing a dangerous cross into the penalty area, but Aranguiz is there at the near post to the head the ball behind for a corner that Shkodran Mustafi fails to hit the target with.
13'
Germany look really nervous in possession, particularly in the final third of their half of the pitch. This time it's Sebastian Rudy who loses possession, allowing Vargas to get away another shot that is well saved by Ter Stegen.
11'
A lofted pass flies up towards the Germany penalty area and finds Sanchez, who quickly tees up Vargas. The forward then immediately unleashes a rocket of a strike from 20 yards out, but there's slightly too much power behind it and it sails high over the top of the crossbar.
9'
Chile continue dominating possession as they put Germany under plenty of early pressure. Sanchez eventually sprays a lofted pass over Mauricio Isla on the right wing, but the full-back is quickly slosed down and can't pick out a team-mate in front of him.
7'
More good play by Chile, who are doing well to find pockets of space available in the middle of the pitch, sets up Vidal to unleash a shot from distance, but this time his effort is slightly wayward and bounces wide of the near post.
5'
Big chance for Chile! Lars Stindl falls asleep on the ball in the middle of the pitch, and he loses possession in an incredibly dangerous position. Chile break forward quickly through Charles Aranguiz, who can't get a shot away but sets up Vidal, and the midfielder does well to force Ter Stegen into making a smart save with his feet.
3'
Eduardo Vargas slips into the left-hand side of the Germany penalty area after playing a quick one-two with Arturo Vidal, but his run into the box is slightly mistimed and the linesman's flag is quickly raised.
2'
Chile enjoy a bright start to the game as they press high up the pitch to put Germany under pressure. Alexis Sanchez is able to wriggle through a group of white shirts before shooting from 25 yards out, but his strike fails to trouble Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
1'
We're off! Chile get us underway, attacking from left to right.
Good evening and welcome to our live text commentary of today’s Confederations Cup final between Chile and Germany at the Zenit Arena.
Joachim Low took a risk when he decided to leave many of Germany’s star players at home for this summer’s tournament, but the young squad he’s assembled have thoroughly impressed so far and are now just one victory away from winning the whole thing. Fittingly, only Chile have managed to avoid defeat against Die Mannschaft in Russia, with their group stage clash ending in a 1-1 draw.
A semi-final tie against Mexico initially looked to be a tough ask for a young and relatively inexperienced Germany side, but they comfortably saw off their opponents to reach their first ever Confederations Cup final. Schalke midfielder Leon Goretzka scored twice in the opening eight minutes to hand his team a dream start, and from then onwards it never looked as if the win was in any doubt.
Chile’s route to the final proved to be a slightly more nervy one, as they had to rely on the heroics of Claudio Bravo to see them squeeze through. Neither they nor Portugal were able to score during 120 minutes of action, but the Manchester City goalkeeper was on hand to save all the penalties he faced to book a place in the final for his side in their first ever Confederations Cup appearance.
A victory here this evening would see Chile get their hands on their third major tournament crown in as many years. La Roja won their first ever Copa America in 2015 before following it up with success at the Copa America Centenario last year, showing just how talented the side at Juan Antonio Pizzi’s disposal is. Experience counts for a lot, meaning Germany could be in for another tough time tonight.
There’s just over 15 minutes left to go until kick-off, so let’s have a look at how the two teams will be lining up this evening…
Juan Antonio Pizzi has decided to name an unchanged Chile side to the one that started the semi-final victory against Portugal, whilst Germany boss Joachim Low has made just one alteration to the team that featured in their last outing, with Shkodran Mustafi coming into the starting line-up to replace Benjamin Henrichs.
The two sides are making their way out onto the pitch, with just a few minutes to go until kick-off.
HALF-TIME: CHILE 0-1 GERMANY
It's been a frustrating game so far for Chile, who have looked dangerous every time they push forward but haven't yet been able to beat Ter Stegen. Vidal, Vargas and Sanchez have all enjoyed themselves inside the final third of the pitch, and that's largely been down to the impressive level of pressure they've put on the Germany back line, who haven't looked entirely comfortable.
However, it's Germany who head into the half-time break with a one-goal lead. They're clearly set up to sit deep and soak up the pressure before countering quickly, and they've managed to do so really well so far. They were gifted their goal by a terrible mistake by Diaz, but since then they've looked dangerous almost every time they push forward.
The two teams are making their way back out on to the pitch ahead of the start of the second half. Neither side have made any substitutions during the half-time break.
FULL-TIME: CHILE 0-1 GERMANY
The referee blows his whistle for the final time and confirms that yet another piece of silverware will be heading to Germany! Joachim Low's young squad performed incredibly well throughout the evening, despite Chile bossing possession for most of the evening. La Roja kept attacking in waves as they desperately tried to break down their opponents, but they just couldn't find a way through the sea of white camped in front of them.
