We're underway at the Allianz Arena.
Good evening and welcome to the live commentary of the Bundesliga clash between Bayern Munich and Schalke at the Allianz Arena.
Bayern are on the charge towards another Bundesliga crown. The club have won their last eight league matches on the bounce, including their 2-0 triumph over Mainz last week. Jupp Heynckes' men hammered Paderborn during the week 6-0 to advance to the semi-finals of the DFB-Pokal, highlighting their current level of excellence in the final third.
The team news has been announced and we'll start with the home side.
Schalke's hopes of securing a Champions League place were knocked off course last week in a 2-1 defeat to Werder Bremen on home soil. Matija Nastastic's dismissal was the turning point as goals from Max Kruse and Zlatko Junozuvic secured a comeback win for the visitors, with the latter scoring at the death. The club did advance to the semi-finals of the DFB-Pokal with a win over Wolfsburg during the week, but will need to bring their best this evening.
BAYERN (4-1-4-1): Sven Ulreich; Joshua Kimmich, Jerome Boateng, Mats Hummels, David Alaba; Arturo Vidal; Arjen Robben, Thomas Muller, James Rodriguez, Franck Ribery; Robert Lewandowski.
SCHALKE (3-4-3): Ralf Fahrmann; Benjamin Stambouli, Naldo, Thilo Kehrer; Daniel Caligiuri, Leon Goretzka, Max Meyer, Alessandro Schopf; Franco Di Santo, Guido Bergstaller, Breel Embolo.
Schalke subs: Yevhen Konoplyanka, Marko Pjaca, Cedric Teuchert, Bastian Oczipka, Amine Harit, Bernard Tekpetey, Alexander Nubel.
Bayern have made two changes from the side that hammered Paderborn during the week. Boateng replaces Sule in the back four, while Coman drops to the bench for Ribery on the left flank. Lewandowski continues to spearhead the attack.
Nastastic serves his suspension this evening therefore Stambouli drops into the back three to replace him. Caligiuri, Di Santo and Embolo also get the nod to start as Oczipka, Harit and Pjaca drop to the bench from the win over Wolfsburg during the week.
Heynckes is missing from the bench this evening due to a bout of flow. Assistant coach Peter Hermann will be giving the orders from the touchline.
HALF-TIME: BAYERN 2-1 SCHALKE
Bayern take a narrow lead into the break of their Bundesliga clash against Schalke. Robert Lewandowski put the home side ahead as he tapped home from close range after Thomas Muller's thunderbolt was saved. However, the visitors hit back through a fine effort from Franco di Santo. Parity lasted just seven minutes as Muller scored by squeezing the ball between Ralf Fahrmann and the post. Intentional or not, the forward's strike is the difference between the two teams at the interval.
FULL-TIME: BAYERN 2-1 SCHALKE
Bayern continue their march towards the Bundesliga crown as goals from Robert Lewandowski and Thomas Muller secure the three points. Schalke displayed fight this evening, but just lacked the quality at times in the final third even after Franco Di Santo's strike to level in the first half. The home side did enough to edge the contest to please their manager Jupp Heynckes on his sickbed.
Thanks for joining our commentary this evening. Until next time, goodbye.
