Antonio Conte is under slightly more pressure than Jose Mourinho to deliver success after missing out on the Champions League for next season. Speculation has surrounded his future at Stamford Bridge, with reports suggesting that it could be his final match in charge of the Blues. The Italian will be determined to sign off on a high note if it is the case.
Good afternoon and welcome to the live commentary of the FA Cup final between Chelsea and Manchester United at Wembley.
The team news has been announced and we'll start with Chelsea.
CHELSEA (3-5-1-1): Thibaut Courtois; Cesar Azpilicueta, Gary Cahill, Antonio Rudiger; Victor Moses, Cesc Fabregas, N'Golo Kante, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Marcos Alonso; Eden Hazard; Olivier Giroud.
Chelsea subs: Willy Caballero, Ross Barkley, Alvaro Morata, Pedro, David Zappacosta, Willian, Trevoh Chalobah.
Manchester United subs: Eric Bailly, Juan Mata, Romelu Lukaku, Anthony Martial, Sergio Romero, Matteo Darmian, Scott McTominay.
Conte has made three changes to his side that were beaten on the final day of the Premier League season by Newcastle. Rudiger, Fabregas and Alonso all come into the fold this afternoon.
Mourinho went for a changed line-up for his side's final day win over Watford. There are only three survivors from that starting line-up - Rashford, Sanchez and Young. De Gea returns between the sticks, while Valencia, Jones, Smalling, Herrera, Pogba, Matic and Lingard are also recalled.
Lukaku starts from the bench as he has not been deemed fit enough by the Portuguese to make his return from injury after suffering his ailment in his side's win over Arsenal in April.
This is the last chance for silverware in the English domestic season and both of these clubs are in dire need of success after failing to compete with Manchester City in the Premier League and the EFL Cup.
Chelsea's recent form had been brilliant entering the final week of the Premier League season, reeling off five wins on the bounce. However, their draw against Huddersfield and loss to Newcastle has sent them into the final without momentum.
United have been up-and-down in recent weeks. Their impressive performances in their wins over Tottenham and Arsenal have been overshadowed by poor displays against Brighton in a 1-0 defeat and a goalless draw with West Ham. They were good enough to see off Watford in the final game of the term, but will need to raise their standards this afternoon.
Mourinho also needs the victory to take something away from an underwhelming campaign where his side were blown away by their nearest rivals. United appeared to be on a collision course with City at the top in the early stages of the season, but could not match their intensity over the course of the term. The season also featured disappointing losses to Bristol City in the EFL Cup and Sevilla in the Champions League.
Chelsea return to the final one year removed from their defeat by Arsenal. The Blues had to overcome a stubborn Norwich side in the third round, needing penalties to see off the Canaries. There were routine wins over Newcastle and Hull, but Leicester provided a tough test in the last eight. However, Pedro's goal sent them through to the last four, where they overcame Southampton by a two-goal margin to advance to the final.
United were beaten by Chelsea in the fifth round of the competition last season. However, Mourinho's men have eased their way into the final this term. They overcame Derby, Yeovil, Huddersfield and Brighton without conceding a goal to reach the last four. Tottenham provided a tough test of their credentials as the Red Devils fell behind to a Dele Alli goal, only for Sanchez and Herrera to guide them through to the final.
MANCHESTER UNITED (4-3-3): David de Gea; Antonio Valencia, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Ashley Young; Ander Herrera, Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba; Jesse Lingard, Marcus Rashford, Alexis Sanchez.
HALF-TIME: CHELSEA 1-0 MANCHESTER UNITED
Chelsea take a 1-0 lead into the break against Manchester United in the FA Cup final thanks to Eden Hazard's strike from the penalty spot. It was a quiet first half in terms of chances, with the first of the game going to Chelsea when Hazard was denied by the legs of David de Gea. The Blues took the lead when Cesc Fabregas lifted a pinpoint ball over the top for Hazard to control and surge forward. Phil Jones tried to make a challenge, only to foul the Belgian. Hazard calmly slotted his penalty away, which has been the decisive moment in the contest. United have been poor in the final third, with Jones boasting their best opening when he headed wide of the post.
CHELSEA WIN THE FA CUP!
FULL-TIME: CHELSEA 1-0 MANCHESTER UNITED
Thanks for joining our commentary this afternoon. Until next time, goodbye.
Chelsea have won the FA Cup for the eighth time in their history. Eden Hazard's strike from the penalty spot was enough to secure the victory over Manchester United after the Belgian was brought down by Phil Jones in the box. The Red Devils put forward a decent performance in the second half, but the Blues' rearguard was stoic throughout the contest. United were unable to find the breakthrough, allowing Chelsea to hold out for the crown. Antonio Conte secures his second trophy in English football in his second season in charge at Stamford Bridge. Jose Mourinho's men end the campaign without silverware for the second time in four years.
