There's one final minute to be added as Madrid have a corner. Correa heads clear.
120'
Madrid are well on top, but there's no way through Atleti. Simeone's men delight in defending and all 10 outfielders are on the edge of their own area.
118'
Modric has three opportunities to deliver and finally picks out Oblak. Atleti lead 4-2 and look set to claim the UEFA Super Cup.
117'
A much better ball from Marcelo, drilled into the six-yard box, forces a corner. Ramos is now playing up front.
115'
Madrid have looked aimless in extra-time. Vazquez wins a free-kick, but Modric's delivery is easily cleared. Further attempts to cross are poor and Vazquez's foul grants Atleti a soft free-kick in their own area.
114'
SAVE! A rare opening for Madrid, but Oblak saves from Modric. The midfielder brings the ball down nicely and strikes hard and low, but it's a simple stop.
112'
Sergio Ramos gets yellow.
SUB: It is perhaps a surprise it took Ramos 112 minutes to pick up a booking, but it duly arrives. He clatters into Saul.
111'
Vitolo must go down! Surely! Varane's error lets him in and he's away, dancing past Carvajal three times and taking a kick inside the area on each occasion. Vitolo stays on his feet, though, and cannot get a shot off.
109'
J. Giménez enters the game and replaces Diego Costa.
SUB: That's more like the Atleti we know. Costa, a forward, makes way for centre-back Gimenez.
Minute
Description
108'
Correa is enjoying himself - at least until he's chopped down by Ramos. The Argentina international has been the game-changer.
107'
Sure enough, Atleti want a fifth. Correa picks out Vitolo, but his control lets him down on the left of the area.
106'
KICK-OFF: Atleti kick off, 15 minutes away from the first trophy of the season.
105' +4
HALF-TIME IN ET: Real Madrid 2 Atletico Madrid 4
Oh dear! Thomas is haring away in pursuit of a fifth Atleti goal, beyond the last defender, but comically stumbles to the ground around 40 yards from goal.
105' +3
Vitolo gets yellow.
YELLOW: Vitolo talks himself into a booking as Madrid struggle to muster a response before the break.
105' +2
Costa clashes with Carvajal now. He does not need to get involved, but that's just what he does. Atleti keep the ball in the corner, seeing out this first period.
105' +1
There will be two minutes added on, as Vitolo goes down under a challenge from Vazquez on the left.
105'
The Madrid players and supporters look defeated. This is a fine start to the season for Atleti.
104'
Koke has scored a goal for Atletico Madrid! Assist by Vitolo.
Vitolo's measured pass tees up Koke, but Costa - once again - deserves credit. He wrestles a defender off the ball to lead the attack. Brilliant play.
GOAL!! Another wonderful strike! Koke makes it 4-2! Atleti should be home and dry now as the midfielder sidefoots Vitolo's lofted pass beyond Navas. That's a sublime finish.
103'
Benzema nudges the ball clear of the Atleti defence, but Oblak is across to claim the ball and kill the pace of the game again.
102'
Borja Mayoral enters the game and replaces T. Kroos.
SUB: An attacking switch for Madrid. Mayoral replaces Kroos.
101'
L. Modrić gets yellow.
YELLOW: Modric, frustrated at Atleti's time-wasting, jumps in front of Hernandez and goes into the book as the France international goes down.
100'
What do Madrid have left to give? Atleti will thrive on defending a one-goal lead with around 20 minutes remaining.
98'
Saúl has scored a goal for Atletico Madrid! Assist by T. Partey.
GOAL!! What a hit from Saul! It's 3-2 and Atleti lead again! A stunning volley flies off the midfielder's left boot from the edge of the area and Navas has no chance.
Thomas deserves great credit for the assist, pinching the ball and picking out his team-mate, but the Madrid defending is woeful. They give the ball away in their own third twice in quick succession and are punished for it.
96'
Madrid's delivery has lacked somewhat in this one. They go short yet again from a corner on the right, before Marcelo skies a cross over everyone.
95'
Madrid have remained on the front foot in the opening stages, with Marcelo and Vazquez causing problems. The former wins a corner.
Fairly comfortable stop for Oblak from Carvajal's volley. Benzema got to the byline but could not pick out a man, the clearance falling kindly for the full-back's very speculative 25-yard shot.
92'
Madrid, kicking towards the Atleti fans again, keep the ball with ease early on. Bale has more of a free role from the left with Vazquez on the other side.
91'
KICK-OFF: Benzema gets extra-time under way for Madrid.
90' +4
CHANCE! Marcelo nearly scores a spectacular strike! Madrid, in the final seconds, break and Bale teases a cross in for his team-mate to scissor-kick goalwards. He gets it horrible wrong and handles as the full-time whistle blows.
FULL-TIME: Real Madrid 2 Atletico Madrid 2 - extra-time to follow.
90' +2
We are halfway through three minutes of additional time. Another 30 seemingly await.
90' +1
Dani Ceballos gets yellow.
T. Partey enters the game and replaces T. Lemar.
SUB: Lemar's Atleti debut comes to an end as Thomas enters the action.
YELLOW: Ceballos is late on Correa, who has turned the game, and the Madrid man is cautioned.
90'
Costa cannot get his shot off! Correa does so well to shield the ball from Ramos and tee up the two-goal forward in the area, but he shimmies past Varane, then Marcelo and then runs out of space.
88'
The pace has slowed somewhat and the two teams appear content to move the ball around rather aimlessly. Playing for extra-time may not be the wisest choice given the obvious fatigure.
85'
This time the foul goes Atleti's way. There does not appear to be much in that one, but Atleti receive some respite.
84'
Vazquez's first action is to force a corner on the right. Can Madrid net again in front of the Atleti supporters?
83'
Lucas Vázquez enters the game and replaces Isco.
SUB: Isco's influence has waned and he's off for Vazquez.
82'
Costa has been involved in just about everything. Two goals, one yellow card and he is snapping at the officials again after an offside call. The Atleti fans are in great voice.
80'
Not often does Modric get his pass wrong and Atleti are breathing a sigh of relief. He has Bale through ahead of him, but rolls the ball straight to Oblak. Atleti are on the attack.
79'
Diego Costa has scored a goal for Atletico Madrid! Assist by Á. Correa.
Correa's arrival in place of Griezmann pays off. He has looked lively and does so well to squeeze the ball into Costa's path.
GOAL!! There's the equaliser and it's Costa again! 2-2! Marcelo bizarrely keeps the ball in for Juanfran on the flank, allowing the full-back to pick out Correa, who in turn squares to Costa. Open goal, easy finish. Madrid are back to square one.
77'
It's defence against attack right now, just how Atleti like it. Only they usually prefer to be on the back foot, standing firm. There is no way through the white wall.
76'
Dani Ceballos enters the game and replaces Casemiro.
SUB: Casemiro is not fit to continue and Ceballos comes on. Given the youngster was already stripped and ready, Casemiro may have been carrying a knock for a couple of minutes.
75'
A slightly nervy moment for Godin and Oblak sees Bale nearly nip in. Atleti clear, but their momentum is checked as Casemiro goes down.
74'
There looks to be a few tired legs out there, leading to a couple of sloppy touches. The ball is currently ricocheting around the middle third.
73'
Easy stop for Navas. Lemar does well to find Juanfran on the right and he slips in Correa, but the cross-cum-shot from a tight angle is tame and saved comfortably.
71'
Vitolo enters the game and replaces Rodri.
SUB: Rodri makes way as Atleti seek an equaliser, as Vitolo comes on.
BLOCK! Big block from Saul to deny Varane! Madrid work the set-piece short and Kroos picks out Varane, whose strike is nodded away in front of Oblak. Modric shimmies into space and curls over.
70'
So wasteful from Hernandez. Lemar wins a free-kick, which is easily cleared, and a second delivery from the left-back is high and long.
Bale's audition under the new boss is going to plan. He skips past three Atleti players in the final third and forces a corner.
68'
It really is no surprise that Madrid have taken complete control since Modric's arrival. He would be some miss for Lopetegui were he to leave Spain.
66'
SAVE! Benzema works an angle on the left and shoots low, forcing a save from Oblak. Atleti are struggling a little.
65'
Costa is still not best pleased - and now neither is Ramos. The pair clash and the Atleti man, challenged for the ball, tramples all over the Madrid captain. No cards for either man...
64'
What do Atleti have to offer now? Madrid are the next side to attack, but Isco's low ball is cut out.
63'
Penalty goal scored by Sergio Ramos for Real Madrid!
GOAL!! Ramos tucks it away! Madrid have turned it around and lead 2-1! In Ronaldo's absence, the captain steps up and sends Oblak the wrong way, celebrating with a Conor McGregor strut.
62'
Diego Costa gets yellow.
YELLOW: Costa is into the book as he complains about the decision. It looks like a good decision, Juanfran having denied Benzema a shot on goal from Kroos' corner.
PENALTY!! Benzema jumps for the ball with Juanfran and the referee points to the spot for handball. Big chance for Madrid!
60'
Á. Correa gets yellow.
Savic and Godin each save Atleti. The former picks off a Modric pass in behind to Benzema, before the latter times his tackle on Bale as the Madrid winger flies forward following a stray ball.
YELLOW: Correa is the latest player into the book, the first for Atleti, as he tangles with Casemiro.
59'
Atleti move forward and Costa gets up towards a right-wing cross. Madrid clear. The game is just growing a little stretched once more.
58'
A sloppy couple of moments for either side, with Bale unable to pick out a team-mate in the Atleti box and the defenders then gifting the ball away again.
57'
Á. Correa enters the game and replaces A. Griezmann.
L. Modrić enters the game and replaces Marco Asensio.
SUB: A change for either side and Asensio is first off. There's a huge roar for Modric.
SUB: Griezmann, very quiet for Atleti, makes way for Correa.
56'
Madrid have been frustrated since the restart. Koke wins a free-kick from Kroos for handball around 30 yards from goal.
54'
Marcelo gets yellow.
YELLOW: Marcelo goes into the book rather bizarrely as he nudges Juanfran to the floor. Another Atleti man had been writhing in pain following an off-the-ball clash with Bale moments earlier.
53'
Costa belatedly is sought out, but he runs the ball behind. Modric readies himself on the Madrid bench.
52'
Atleti are working the ball really nicely at the start of this second half, stringing the passes together, but it all feels a little aimless. Their best work has come when, as with the goal, they have hit Costa early.
50'
Hernandez launches in a long throw, but Madrid clear and Varane stands tall time and again as Atleti look for an aerial route to goal. Madrid just need to lift themselves again.
49'
Lovely footwork from Lemar takes him past two or three challenges before he is fouled by Bale. The France man stays down for a moment, but he is soon back on his feet.
48'
Atleti have played with renewed hope since the interval. Juanfran commits a foul as they attack on the right, but Simeone's men swiftly win the ball back.
47'
Griezmann looks to feed Costa in behind, but his strike partner is not entirely sure of where the ball is and turns the wrong way. Varane clears.
46'
KICK-OFF: Off we go again. Madrid get us back under way.
Atleti keep the ball for the first minute of the second half as the supporters continue to make their way back to their seats.
45' +2
HALF-TIME: Real Madrid 1 Atletico Madrid 1
45' +1
There will be one minute of additional time. Atleti are moving forward.
45'
This has been a half of few chances, but it remains a very even game. Atleti dominated early, Madrid hit back. It's 1-1 as we approach half-time.
43'
Atleti win a corner on the left but Lemar, his first effort blocked, tricks himself into moving onto his unfavoured right. Madrid easily clear when the consequent second cross is low.
42'
Rodri charges through the centre of the Madrid midfield, beating two or three men, but his options are limited and he is forced to go backwards. That should have resulted in an opening.
41'
Juanfran feeds Koke on the right, but a drilled low cross is easy for Navas. Madrid build from the back once more.
40'
Wide from Bale! He cuts in from the right and lets fly with his left, but Oblak is never remotely concerned.
39'
Comfortable for Navas. Godin meets Koke's set-piece, but a looping header drops into the goalkeeper's hands.
38'
Big challenge from Casemiro! Madrid just overcomplicate it this time, twice giving the ball away in dangerous areas. Costa looks to work an angle in the area, but Casemiro steps in. Corner.
37'
Griezmann looks to prompt an Atleti break, but Ramos steps in. Marcelo cannot quite reach the ball to deliver at the byline at the other end.
36'
Madrid are enjoying themselves in possession now. Bale and Asensio each execute neat flicks as they seek space in the final third.
35'
Marco Asensio gets yellow.
YELLOW: A first moment of controversy. Isco is denied a free-kick on the edge of the area at one end and Costa is dragged down by Asensio as Atleti break. Booking for Asensio.
34'
Corner to Madrid but they really should make more of a counter! Benzema feeds Bale on the left, prompting a marvellous switch out to Asensio. The Spaniarrd dallies on the ball, though, and Marcelo ultimately sees his shot blocked.
33'
World Cup winning team-mates they might be, but Hernandez and Lemar twice fail to link up in quick succession on the left. Atleti have missed a couple of chances to push Madrid back.
32'
Lopetegui is urging Madrid forward. Marcelo miscontrols and Juanfran, wisely, takes a moment to get the ball back in play from the throw-in. Atleti need to slow the game.
30'
Griezmann has had a quiet opening half an hour. Atleti's latest long ball sails over his head. They may well need to get their talisman on the ball as Madrid build momentum.
29'
CLOSE! Asensio almost completes the turnaround! The Spain international gets away from Lemar on the edge of the area and goes for the curler into the bottom-right corner. Oblak is beaten, but the ball creeps wide.
28'
This back-and-forth match sees Atleti press on again immediately after conceding. Madrid might prefer to play on the counter.
27'
K. Benzema has scored a goal for Real Madrid! Assist by G. Bale.
The two men who decided the Champions League final were at the heart of that strike. Bale raced away on the right and delivered with his weaker foot.
GOAL!! There's the leveller! Benzema makes it 1-1! Bale's cross from the right looks a little deep, but Benzema nips in behind Savic and nods down and past Oblak. Great header.
25'
Over the top from Marcelo. Atleti have so many men back that the left-back is left with little option but to go for goal from 25 yards. With his right foot, he cannot hit the target.
24'
Even without Ronaldo to support him, Marcelo remains Madrid's chief threat on the left. Savic cuts short a foray.
23'
Varane is the latest man to be caught in possession. This is a two-minute better spell for Atleti, who still lead.
22'
One thing Atleti are still doing effectively is pouncing on Madrid mistakes. Kroos fails to reach a pass in his own half and Saul is straight on it. Koke darts left and looks for Hernandez, but Madrid get the ball clear.
21'
Bale takes another kick - this time from Hernandez - as Atleti fail to pen Madrid in. A scrappy game might suit Atleti right now.
20'
Where Atleti were intentionally knocking the ball up to Costa early on, they now have little choice. The clearances are just getting a little desperate.
18'
There is a short stoppage as Ramos and Costa clash again in the air. Isco is just starting to turn the screw. He is finding space behind the Atleti midfield.
17'
SAVE! Great stop from Oblak! Asensio flicks Marcelo's low cross goalwards but the goalkeeper gets down, somehow turning the ball away from a waiting Madrid man in the centre.
16'
It's not a good set-piece from the new man. Lemar looks to drill a pass in to Griezmann but overhits the ball. Madrid build again.
15'
Lemar has settled into this Atleti side right away. He's playing from the right, working hard and looking to get Atleti on the attack quickly wherever possible. He will deliver a free-kick after Kroos fouls Koke.
14'
Kroos delivers, Saul gets up to nod clear. Madrid have Atleti pinned back for the first time. It remains 1-0 to Simeone's side.
13'
Crucial interception from Ramos. A poor Madrid pass falls to Costa, who tees up a ball to free Lemar on the right. Ramos steps in and Bale then wins a free-kick at the other end.
12'
Madrid win their first corner on the left, a cross from deep blocked, but Marcelo goes short and quickly loses possession. The European champions are looking to get the ball moving at speed.
11'
Simeone is still serving a touchline ban and can instead be seen prowling a boxed-off space in the stands in the opening stages. He looks tense, anxious, but he must be delighted.
10'
Great tackle from Savic! Isco spins in midfield and looks to free Bale again on the right. Savic slides across.
9'
A penny for the thoughts of Ronaldo? Or Modric, sat on the bench? It looks as though Atleti have sensed a weakness in their rivals and moved swiftly to capitalise. This has been a scintilating start.
8'
Madrid are really struggling with the long ball. Isco's cross is knocked away and a volley high towards Costa is met by Ramos, the Madrid man fouling the goalscorer. Free-kick.
7'
Brilliant defending from Hernandez. Bale sets off at pace on the right flank for the first time, nutmegging the left-back, but then cannot find a way to the ball and commits a foul.
5'
Hernandez almost wriggles clear in the box after the corner is nodded up but not away at the near post. Marcelo's clearance is poor and Atleti remain on the front foot.
4'
Juanfran leads another attack and crosses from the right. Ramos nods behind. Corner...
3'
Atleti are hassling, harrying and Madrid have no room to breathe. Simeone's men have hit the ground running.
2'
Madrid finally have the opportunity to get a foot on the ball. An already lively atmosphere has just turned up a notch.
1'
Diego Costa has scored a goal for Atletico Madrid! Assist by D. Godín.
KICK-OFF: The 2018 UEFA Super Cup final is under way! Atleti get us up and running.
GOAL!! What a start for Atleti! 1-0! Costa beats Ramos to a long ball and chases his own header, rifling the ball past Navas from a tight angle on the right. The ball clips the post on the way in. Sensational.
Godin supplies the assist, but this goal is all Costa's. Atleti had looked for a couple of early long balls before that one and their tactic quickly paid off.
Hello and welcome to our live text commentary of the UEFA Super Cup final between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid!
The first European trophy of the season is on the line in Tallinn as Julen Lopetegui's Madrid reign gets started with a derby against local rivals Atleti.
Of course, Lopetegui's arrival is far from the only big change in the make-up of these two sides ahead of the new season. The former Spain boss replaces Zinedine Zidane, while Cristiano Ronaldo has departed for Juventus. Luka Modric is still on board for now, though, as Thibaut Courtois leads the acquisitions.
Courtois knows today's opponents well, having previously enjoyed a lengthy loan spell with Atleti, but there are new faces in Diego Simeone's camp, too, including Thomas Lemar. Antoine Griezmann's stay provides perhaps their biggest boost.
REAL MADRID (4-2-3-1): Keylor Navas; Dani Carvajal, Raphael Varane, Sergio Ramos, Marcelo; Toni Kroos, Casemiro; Gareth Bale, Isco, Marco Asensio; Karim Benzema.
ATLETICO MADRID (4-4-2): Jan Oblak; Juanfran, Stefan Savic, Diego Godin, Lucas Hernandez; Saul, Koke, Rodri, Thomas Lemar; Diego Costa, Antoine Griezmann.
SUBS: Kiko Casilla, Andriy Lunin, Nacho, Luka Modric, Lucas Vazquez, Marcos Llorente, Borja Mayoral, Dani Ceballos, Federico Valverde, Vinicius Junior, Sergio Reguilon, Javier Sanchez.
SUBS: Antonio Adan, Alex dos Santos, Filipe Luis, Santiago Arias, Jose Gimenez, Thomas Partey, Gelson Martins, Vitolo, Roberto Olabe, Nikola Kalinic, Angel Correa.
Modric is notably on the Madrid bench amid interest from Inter, while Courtois is not involved. World Cup winners Hernandez, Lemar and Griezmann all start for Atleti, facing France team-mate Varane.
There's no Ronaldo, no Zidane, but Madrid remain a real threat. They were shell-shocked by Costa's blistering strike in the first minute, but Bale led the response and crossed for Benzema to equalise.
Can Madrid press on again and get a winner? Will Atleti rally and muscle through the opposition defence once more? The second half is coming up.
As at half-time, the UEFA Super Cup is all square. Costa scored early in the first half and late in the second, with Benzema and Ramos, through a penalty, netting in the mean time.
Both sides looked to be tiring. It will be interesting to see who can go the distance and clinch this first piece of silverware of the season. It looks very even right now.
A pair of magnificent goals from Saul and Koke have Atleti out of sight. Madrid will do well not to concede more in this final 15 minutes based on that first half.
Atleti win the UEFA Super Cup!
A thoroughly deserved triumph for Atleti, with Costa (twice), Saul and Koke on the scoresheet. Benzema and Ramos netted for Madrid, who are already reeling in the absence of Ronaldo and Zidane.
That's all from this one after a difficult day for the European champions. Thanks for joining us and, until next time, goodbye!
