88'
D. Yedlin gets yellow.
DeAndre Yedlin is shown a yellow for giving the referee his thoughts on the lack of a card produced for the Arteaga challenge.

The referee blows a stop to play as Bobby Wood is treated for an apparent head injury. Wood is not happy with the challenge from Arteaga during an aerial duel but grudgingly makes his way off to be inspected further.

Oswaldo Alanis is substituted out in additional time, Jesus Angulo his replacement.

82'
Mexico are piling forward looking for an equaliser, but they are running out of time and have not looked cohesive since going down to 10. It looks to be a poor finish for the side who controlled much of the match.
80'
B. Wood enters the game and replaces G. Zardes.
J. Gallardo enters the game and replaces V. Guzmán.
Gyasi Zardes’ night is done as Bobby Wood comes on for the final 10 minutes.

Minute
Description
79'
Arteaga stops Moore’s run down the right and lets the ball roll out for a goal-kick, though the challenge from the Mexico full-back did seem to be direct more at Moore than at the ball.
77'
Only two Mexico players in this squad remain from the 2018 World Cup – Edson Alvarez and Hugo Ayala.
75'
E. Hernández enters the game and replaces D. Lainez.
Diego Lainez has had a wonderful match, but Ferretti is opting for experience, sending on Elias Hernandez.
74'
A. Pulido enters the game and replaces R. Alvarado.
Roberto Alvarado is recalled by the manager who sends Alan Pulido into the fray.
73'
The goal is slightly unfortunate for Gonzalez in the Mexico goal as he did very well to twist his body to get a hand to it, but Adams’ aim was perfect to put it under the outstretched glove.
71'
T. Adams has scored a goal for United States! Assist by A. Robinson.
Substitute Antonee Robinson makes his impact on the match with a great assist for Adams' goal.
TYLER ADAMS PUTS THE UNITED STATES UP! 1-0 to America two minutes after Mexico had a man sent off as Acosta carries the ball through midfield before spraying it to Robinson on the left. The Everton left-back puts in a fantastic cross which Mexico do not deal with, and Tyler Adams jumps on the loose ball and slots it past Gonzalez!
69'
The United States captain seems to be okay after that terrible challenge, and he restarts the match from a free-kick following some time allowed for Zaldivar to make way from the pitch.
67'
Á. Zaldívar goes off after a red card!
ZALDIVAR WALKS! Angel Zaldivar goes into an absolutely horrible challenge on Trapp in the centre-circle in which he goes over the ball with his studs showing. In his first appearance for the Mexico XI – he’s given his marching orders!
66'
E. Álvarez gets yellow.
Edson Alvarez is shown a yellow card for intervening in a fracas between Miazga and Lainez after the Mexico winger gave the America defenders jersey a pull. There seems to be some needle in this match now!
64'
Green has been very influential since coming on for the injured McKennie and given a bit more creativity and endeavour. Though Mexico are still clearly on top, the US have come out much better since the half.
62'
Green is bundled over in central midfield and he chooses to play it quickly to Robinson on the left who swings a cross into the near post for Zardes who doesn’t manage to get there before the goalkeeper.
61'
Acosta takes a US corner and doesn’t manage to beat the first defender stationed at the near post.
60'
Alvarado gets forward well but his cross is put far too close to Steffen who lays out to make the catch ahead of the approaching Zaldivar who has not been involved much in the match despite Mexico’s somewhat continuous attack.
58'
Moore goes on a venturous run from right-back but goes shoulder-to-shoulder with Arteaga and can’t outmuscle his Mexico counter-part, who dispossess him.
56'
A. Robinson enters the game and replaces E. Lichaj.
Antonee Robinson takes over Eric Lichaj’s position at left-back in Sarachan’s second substitution.
55'
Lichaj puts a cross into the area which is batted away immediately by Alanis. A poor effort, but at least the home side are coming forward a little bit more now.
53'
The ole’s continue at Nissan Stadium as Mexico continue to direct traffic and force America to chase. It shouldn’t be long until we begin to see a number of substitutions made by both sides – with the US having one less due to McKennie’s injury.
51'
Weah gets on the ball at left wing but passes to Green instead of taking on two Mexico defenders. After a slaloming run, Green puts a cross into the back of the box which doesn’t trouble El Tri.
49'
Lainez plays a beautiful pass to his left for Arteaga who is constantly penetrating, but Moore puts in a great tackle and wins his side the throw.
48'
The United States look to be putting a bit more pressure on Mexico when out of possession early after the restart; positive signs to say the least.
46'
Mexico get the second half underway!
45' +1
HALF TIME: UNITED STATES 0-0 MEXICO.
44'
The referee indicates one added minute at the end of the first half.
42'
Weah has a powerful strike at goal from a central position just outside the penalty area which hits a stooping Gonzalez in the chest. The goalkeeper bobbles it for a second, but manages to get it under his control.
41'
Weah shoots from questionable distance but gets a fortunate deflection and wins his side a corner. Mexico defend the set-piece well with Alvarez first to the ball on the penalty spot.
40'
J. Green enters the game and replaces W. McKennie.
The United States are forced into an early change as Weston McKennie limps off with what appears to be a knee injury. Julian Green is on to replace him.
38'
M. Miazga gets yellow.
Matt Miazga is shown the first yellow card of the match for pulling Zaldivar’s kit back just inside the United States half.
37'
Lainez shimmies and dangles around Trapp, leaving the America captain on the floor in the penalty area before pulling it back for Alvarado who waits in the centre of the area, although his contact isn’t clean and Steffen can make the save.
34'
El Tri are passing far too easily around, and through, the America team. The US midfield is simply not closing down efficiently, allowing a lot of passes through the centre of the pitch down the channels. Sarachan will need to make changes at half-time to get his side back in it.
33'
Mexico’s set-piece is poor as the intended cross smashes into the well-placed America wall.
32'
Steffen comes all the way outside his penalty area to catch a ball that is played down the right for Alvarado. The referee awards Mexico a free-kick but chooses not to card the goalkeeper who seems to have caught it and let it go close to the penalty area. Ultimately, the referee’s decision is the correct one.
30'
Alvarado’s take is a lot better this time, but Miazga rises highest and deals with the trouble.
29'
Brilliant chance as Arteaga gets free and passes it to Guzman who immediately crosses it for Zaldivar. The ball comes to Lainez outside the penalty area where he is fouled immediately. It’s another set-piece for Mexico in a crossing position on the right.
28'
Acosta takes with his left and smacks it right into the wall. He immediately claims a handball, but the ricochet comes back to him and he fizzes a second effort wide of the goal.
27'
Adams looks to start something and chips it over the midfield for Zardes who manages to pull it down and get fouled just outside the penalty area. This will be the US’s first real chance of the match.
25'
It’s a spectacular failure from Alvarado whose intention seems to be a curler into the far-post. He miscues his effort and skies the shot into the stands as the US get away with one.
23'
Abella plays Lainez into the penalty area with a wonderfully disguised pass but Lainez’s poor first touch takes him out of the 18-yard box. Miazga fouls unnecessarily, however, giving Mexico a free-kick on the right-hand side of the area.
21'
Abella for the third time tonight gets into a wonderful position on the right and puts a delightful cross right to the penalty spot for Guzman to get a head on it – which he does, sending his effort right to Steffen.
18'
Every Mexico pass is met with an ole as the travelling fans make their voices heard. They should be happy with the way the match is going so far for their side, as El Tri have been in the ascendency.
16'
Steffen makes an incredible save diving backwards to save an Alvarez header from a corner-kick. He tips the ball just over the bar – keeping the clean sheet but offering Mexico a second chance, which they do not take as Steffen catches the second set-piece easily.
14'
Trapp takes Alvarado down just outside the penalty area which gives Mexico a dangerous set-piece. Alvarado curls it into the box well but after some poor decision-making by the US defenders, they finally get some breathing room as Guzman misses his shot.
13'
A cross-pitch pass is sprayed once again to Abella, but this time Moore does just enough to get back into position to put it out for a throw. This switch to a system with full-backs is working wonders for Mexico on the right.
12'
The set-piece is taken to the near post for Zardes, but a defender is stationed in the correct position and he makes the easy clearance.
11'
Zardes gets the ball after a knock-down from a Lichaj long pass and feeds Weah through on goal, but Alvarez recovers well to put it out for a corner.
9'
Abella gets forward and finds himself in an open position on the right flank. He receives a pass with incredible touch, bringing it down in the air before firing a cross which is a tricky low delivery, but Steffen smothers.
7'
The United States are moving from defence to midfield with ease, but face trouble in the teeth of the Mexico press in the middle of the pitch. The away side’s central pairing are not allowing the US play-makers to turn and play a pass, which is constantly forcing Sarachan’s team to spray it to the wings.
5'
It seems Mexico have changed their shape early in the match under instructions from Ferretti on the sideline. El Tri have dropped into a back-three, with Abella and Arteaga operating as attacking wing-backs. The additional flankers may provide more support for lone-striker Zaldivar.
3'
Mexico are enjoying the early possession, building up slowly and getting a foothold in the match. It’s a hostile atmosphere in Nashville which may play an important part in the nerves of the players – many of whom are experiencing their first USA – Mexico fixture.

The United States get the match underway from the kick-off!
Despite making it to the World Cup, Mexico find themselves in an oddly similar position to their northern counterparts. A 2-0 loss to Brazil in the round-of-16 stage led to former manager Juan Carlos Osorio’s resignation from the post - with Ricardo Feretti his interim replacement.
Since missing out on the World Cup, the US side have been stuck in limbo – with interim coach Dave Sarachan still managing the side almost a year after the departure of Bruce Arena in the aftermath of a dismally poor qualification campaign to reach Russia. Sarachan’s contract has been extended to the end of the calendar year, which gives the United States organisation more time to find their permanent successor before the 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
The term friendly is used in the very loosest of contexts when it comes to any meeting between these two historical North American rivals. The United States enter the match this evening without a win in their last three – with friendly losses to Republic of Ireland and Brazil sandwiching a 1-1 draw with France in the pre-World Cup build-up – a tournament they did not participate in.
Feretti’s start to life in the job could not have been worse, with his admittedly understrength side falling to a 4-1 hammering by Uruguay four days ago. Despite dominating possession stats, Uruguay looked comfortable in attack, with Luis Suarez netting twice. The pressure could really pile onto El Tri tonight if they were to lose to their bitter adversaries – though the atmosphere tonight will certainly not help their cause.
With 15 minutes to go before kick-off, the team news has been confirmed! Let's start with the United States!
Mexico Starting XI (4-2-3-1): Hugo Gonzalez; Jose Abella, Hugo Ayala, Oswaldo Alanis, Gerardo Arteaga; Edson Alvarez, Victor Guzman; Diego Lainez, Roberto Alvarado, Erick Aguirre; Angel Zaldivar.
United States Substitutes: Tim Parker, Julian Green, Andrija Novakovich, Bobby Wood, Ethan Horvath, Antonee Robinson, DeAndre Yedlin, Marco Delgado, Cristian Roldan.
United States Starting XI (4-1-4-1): Zack Steffen; Eric Lichaj, Matt Miazga, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Shaquell Moore; Wil Trapp; Timothy Weah, Weston McKennie, Tyler Adams, Kellyn Acosta; Gyasi Zardes.
Mexico Substitutes: Jonathan Gonzalez, Jesus Gallardo, Elias Hernandez, Luis Rodriguez, Alan Pulido, Jesus Angulo, Jonathan dos Santos, Gibran Lajud.
Dave Sarachan makes six changes to the side that lost 2-0 against Brazil in a friendly four days ago. Eric Lichaj, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Shaquell Moore make the starting XI in defence, replacing Antonee Robinson, John Anthony Brooks and DeAndre Yedlin. Captain Wil Trapp retains his position as the holding midfielder, but Timothy Weah and Kellyn Acosta replace Paul Arriola on the wings in front of him. At lone striker, it’s Gyasi Zardes who gets the start over Bobby Wood.
Ricardo Ferretti counters with a whopping 10 alterations to his XI that were hammered by Uruguay 4-1, with Hugo Ayala the only one to retain his place. Hugo Gonzalez replaces Guillermo Ochoa in goal, while Jose Abella, Oswaldo Alanis and Gerardo Arteaga take the places of Jesus Gallardo, Jesus Angulo and Luis Rodriguez. In midfield, Erick Gutierrez and Jonathan dos Santos drop out, allowing Edson Alvarez and Victor Guzman earn a start. The trio behind lone striker Angel Zaldivar – who takes Raul Jimenez’s position – will consist of Diego Lainez, Roberto Alvarado and Erick Aguirre. They get their chance in the line-up over Hirving Lozano, Alan Pulido and Elias Hernandez.
Mexico have thoroughly dominated the match so far, without getting the goal they deserve. Ferretti’s tactical change early in the match – switching to a back-three – has worked wonders for his side, allowing Abella and Arteaga at wing-back to get forward and cause the United States a whole host of problems, the likes of which they have not managed to solve.
The United States simply cannot get anything going via any other means except Zardes knock-downs. Weah has slowly gotten into the match more and more as the half came to a close, but his involvement, on the whole, has been much less than required. Sarachan must figure out a way at the half to get his midfield more involved – both to supplement the attack and provide support for the defence.
Ricardo Ferretti’s switch to a back-three at the start of the match gave Mexico the edge until they gave their opponents a man advantage. Abella and Arteaga were constantly penetrating the United States defence, though they could not get the centre-striker more involved – the reason for their inability to score. Overall, it’s a poor defeat which leaves this Mexico side under increased pressure to perform.
The United States take their win tally to 20 in the 68th meeting between these two rivals, thanks to an opening goal from Tyler Adams – two minutes after Mexico had Angel Zaldivar sent off. El Tri had been the side in ascendancy up to that point, but a reckless challenge in midfield by the striker required a sending off.
