Good afternoon and welcome to live match coverage of this Premier League fixture between Bournemouth and Southampton at the Vitality Stadium.
Bournemouth come into this clash against Southampton having confidently enjoyed back-to-back wins over Crystal Palace and Watford respectively. Southampton, however, will be looking to end their run of three matches without a win.
BOURNEMOUTH (4-4-2): Asmir Begovic; Simon Francis, Steve Cook, Nathan Ake, Adam Smith; David Brooks, Jefferson Lerma, Lewis Cook, Ryan Francis; Callum Wilson, Joshua King.
SOUTHAMPTON (4-4-2): Alex McCarthy; Cedric Soares, Jack Stephens, Wesley Hoedt, Ryan Bertrand; Nathan Redmond, Pierre-Emile Hojberg, Mario Lemina, Mohamed Elyounoussi; Danny Ings, Charlie Austin.
BOURNEMOUTH SUBS: Artur Boruc, Diego Rico, Andrew Surman, Dan Gosling, Junior Stanislas, Jordon Ibe, Jermain Defoe.
SOUTHAMPTON SUBS: Angus Gunn, Maya Yoshida, Jannik Vestergaard, James Ward-Prowse, Stuart Armstrong, Manolo Gabbiadini, Shane Long.
Bournemouth are enjoying a fine start to the new campaign and find themselves sitting in sixth place having only lost two games this season to Chelsea and Burnley. Southampton, on the other hand, are seeking their second win of the season having only beaten Crystal Palace in their first eight games.
The teams are out in the tunnel and kick-off will soon be upon us here at the Vitality.
Southampton will be the happier side at the break following that first half of football. The best opening of the game fell to Austin, but his touch was too heavy as he tried to take the ball around Begovic. Bournemouth have yet to create a clear-cut chance for themselves and failed to find that attacking spark.
Fraser has been the brightest spark for Bournemouth in the opening half, but his end product has been lacking thus far. Cedric and Bertrand have offensively committed at times and that is something Bournemouth may look to target going forward. Southampton, on the other hand, will look to continue playing as they are. Redmond and Austin will be the key to them breaking the deadlock.
Southampton had the better of the opportunities, and they will feel that they had the quality of opportunities to take all three points today. Austin, Long and Gabbiadini all had good chances to win the game for the Saints but it just wasn’t meant to be. Bournemouth will be pleased with the point given the quality of their play as they struggled to reach top gear.
Bournemouth go away to Fulham next weekend as they look to respond and pick up their sixth win of the season to continue their high-flying start. Southampton face Newcastle at St Mary’s next time out and will be seeking to win only their second league game of the season against a fellow Premier League struggler.
That brings an end to our coverage of the Premier League game between Bournemouth and Southampton at the Vitality. Thank you very much for joining us. Goodbye!
