Huddersfield are bottom of the Premier League and 10 points from safety. Recently appointed manager Jan Siewert will need to put together a remarkable run of results if the Terriers are to retain their Premier League status. Huddersfield have won two matches all season and lost nine of their last 10 league outings.
Hello and welcome to the live commentary of the Premier League match between Huddersfield Town and Everton.
Everton manager Marco Silva is under increasing pressure. The Toffees are on a poor run and suffered an embarrassing loss to Millwall in the FA Cup at the weekend. Recent struggles have seen Everton drop down to 11th, having won just two of their last 10 Premier League matches. Silva needs a result tonight and will be hoping Huddersfield do not benefit from a new manager bounce.
SUBS: Tommy Smith, Laurent Depoitre, Chris Lowe, Erik Durm, Ben Hamer, Alex Pritchard, Aaron Mooy.
EVERTON (4-2-3-1): Jordan Pickford; Seamus Coleman, Michael Keane, Kurt Zouma, Leighton Baines; Tom Davies, Andre Gomes; Bernard, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Richarlison; Cenk Tosun.
HUDDERSFIELD TOWN (4-2-3-1): Jonas Lossl; Florent Hadergjonaj, Mathias Jorgensen, Christopher Schindler, Terence Kongolo; Juninho Bacuna, Jonathan Hogg; Elias Kachunga, Jason Puncheon, Adama Diakhaby; Steve Mounie.
SUBS: James McCarthy, Jonjoe Kenny, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Maarten Stekelenburg, Lucas Digne, Ademola Lookman, Theo Walcott.
Everton lead Huddersfield 1-0 at half-time thanks to Richarlison’s early goal. The hosts have had plenty of possession but have not created anything of note. Everton have not looked like scoring a second, despite several opportunities to counter-attack.
Silva will be pleased his side are ahead at half-time, though he will be disappointed that they have not created more. Bernard has not been involved in the game enough and Tosun has been isolated at times. The defence has been solid, though, with Zouma and Keane doing a great job against Mounie. Huddersfield have had a lot of the ball but are lacking invention in the final third. It will not be long before Siewert introduces Mooy. Silva has plenty of options on the bench, we could see Walcott or Lookman replace Bernard early in the second half.
Victory pulls Everton up to eighth. The Toffees play their next two matches at home, facing Wolves at the weekend and Manchester City next week. This win eases the pressure on Silva for now at least. Huddersfield are six points adrift at the bottom of the table, and face Chelsea and Arsenal in their next two. It will take a miracle for Siewert to guide the Terriers to safety.
Thanks for joining our commentary this evening. Until next time, goodbye.
