Referee Felix Zwayer blows his whistle and this match is underway!
Hello, and welcome to our live coverage of this Bundesliga match between Fortuna Dusseldorf and Bayern Munich!
Fortuna will be very pleased with how this season has gone considering they are functionally safe. No side has been relegated after securing 37 points or more through 28 Bundesliga matches.
Now, let's take a look at the players who will be involved in today's match.
Fortuna Dusseldorf (4-1-4-1): Michael Rensing; Matthias Zimmermann, Kaan Ayhan, Marcin Kaminski, Andre Hoffmann; Marcel Sobottka; Benito Raman, Kevin Stoger, Aymen Barkok, Dawid Kownacki; Rouwen Hennings.
Bayern Munich (4-2-3-1): Manuel Neuer; Joshua Kimmich, Mats Hummels, Niklas Sule, David Alaba; Thiago Alcantara, Javi Martínez; Serge Gnabry, Thomas Muller, Kingsley Coman; Robert Lewandowski.
Bayern Munich substitutes: James Rodriguez, Alphonso Davies, Leon Goretzka, Renato Sanches, Sven Ulreich, Lars Lukas Mai, Jerome Boateng.
No changes from Niko Kovac after his sides massive 5-0 win in the Revierderby last weekend. Obviously, the player at the top of the formation, and the front of people’s minds, is Robert Lewandowski. The Polish striker is having another sensational season with 21 goals, 43 shots on target, and 237 touches in the box, all of which lead the league. In support, Kimmich is a constant creative force from his right back spot, having provided 10 Bundesliga assists thus far.
The players are walking out of the tunnel. Not long to go until kick-off now!
In the second half, you have to assume that Fortuna will come out with more attacking impetus as they chase the match and, from their perspective, hopefully, a result. In that vein, it's likely that we'll see Lukebakio off the bench sooner rather than later. Of course, as Fortuna open up, Bayern could well take advantage of the open spaces in midfield and defence and turn this into an even less flattering scoreline for the hosts.
As for what's next for these clubs, Bayern will continue their march to a potential seventh consecutive league title when they host Werder Bremen on Saturday. Fortuna, on the other hand, will hope to recover from this loss ahead of their match against Mainz next weekend.
That will do it for our coverage of this Bundesliga match between Fortuna Dusseldorf and Bayern Munich. We hope you enjoyed following along and will join us again soon!
