This game looks to be fizzling out. Armstrong is booked for a poorly timed challenge on Matic.
90' +5
Young is booked for dissent after doubting the extent of Soares' injury. The full-back is back on the pitch now.
90' +4
A. Young gets yellow.
90' +2
United's pressure on Southampton looks to be easing off now. United's youngsters look promising, but they'll need to clear out the dead wood first.
90'
United come again and win a corner off Bednarek. There will be *four* added minutes. United can't create anything and Romeu calmly heads back to his keeper. That gives Southampton a much-needed opportunity to wind down the clock.
87'
United are peppering Southampton's goal now, but they're not achieving much. Matic has an effort from the centre of the box blocked, then Lingard bounces a shot wide.
85'
Lingard foolishly ignores Greenwood in space on the right and instead decides to blast the ball straight at Vestergaard. Not the type of decision-making United need if they want to win this.
84'
Southampton are understandably camping in their half. A rogue Pogba pass gives Armstrong the chance to hold the ball up down the left flank. He looks for Long, but Maguire is there to put a stop to it.
82'
M. Greenwood enters the game and replaces S. McTominay.
The talented teenager Greenwood comes on for McTominay. Will he give United the flair they need to break down Southampton?
Minute
Description
81'
United probe on the edge of Southampton's box, trying to find an opportunity. Matic tries to slide a pass through for James but it's intercepted. The ball soon comes back to James whose cross bounces harmlessly out of play.
79'
McTominay finds Wan-Bissaka marauding down the right for United. The full-back crosses towards Rashford but can't quite find him. United are knocking on the door now.
77'
M. Yoshida enters the game and replaces D. Ings.
Southampton use their final change to shore up their defence after Danso's red card. Yoshida comes on for Ings.
73'
K. Danso gets a second yellow card and is sent off.
RED CARD FOR SOUTHAMPTON! Danso picks up his second yellow for scything down McTominay. That was spectacularly stupid. United may have a chance to regain control of this game.
71'
S. Armstrong enters the game and replaces S. Boufal.
The lively Boufal is replaced by Armstrong.
70'
Matic shoots from range after United keep the ball for a long spell without doing very much with it. They're looking short of ideas now.
68'
J. Lingard enters the game and replaces Andreas Pereira.
N. Matić enters the game and replaces Mata.
Now Matic comes on for Mata, who's been one of United's brighter sparks today. Maybe Solskjaer thinks United need more solidity at the base of midfield.
United make a double change. First, the underwhelming Pereira is replaced by Lingard.
67'
Hojbjerg has a pop from outside the box but it's way over. It's hard to call which side will win this at the moment, if either of them.
66'
Pogba turns past Romeu and slides through a pass for Rashford down the left channel. Vestergaard dives in to block the shot.
64'
Southampton get another corner as Young heads out Boufal's excellent cross. Maguire heads the ball as far as Boufal, whose shot is blocked by McTominay.
62'
S. Long enters the game and replaces C. Adams.
Southampton make the first change of the game. Adams is replaced up front by Long. They sense this game is winnable.
58'
J. Vestergaard has scored a goal for Southampton! Assist by K. Danso.
GOAL! 1-1 SOUTHAMPTON! Ings forces De Gea into a save from a corner conceded by Lindelof but United can't fully clear their lines. Boufal drifts a cross back in towards the far post and Vestergaard rises high to nod it into the net!
Clever thinking by Danso there, who had too much time to pick out the cross. United were slow to react and they've been punished.
56'
Southampton are playing a very high line now which is giving Rashford a chance to dart in behind it. Gunn gambols out of goal to clear a pass which almost finds the United striker again.
52'
Southampton need to be careful here. They have a chance of getting back into this but can't afford to leave the back door open. United look menacing on the counter.
48'
James twists and turns down the left for United, tying Soares in knots. He can't shake Ward-Prowse off though and the Southampton man wins a free-kick.
46'
We're underway again for the second half!
Danso checks Pereira's run down the right early on, conceding a foul. The ref gives the Austrian the benefit of the doubt. Man Utd do very little with the free-kick.
45' +2
James comes back to help out Young by their corner flag and plays the ball off Soares for a goal kick. That should be it for now.
HALF-TIME: SOUTHAMPTON 0-1 MANCHESTER UNITED
45'
There'll be two more minutes in this half. Good fun, this. Soares crosses from deep and it's headed out by Lindelof. Ward-Prowse tries again from the right and wins a throw.
44'
Ings cleverly rolls the ball into the left of United's box for Adams to run onto. The striker can't decide whether to cross or shoot from a tight angle, though, and ends up failing at both.
43'
Southampton manage to pin United into their box briefly but can't get a good ball in. The cross is cleared and Rashford looks to counter down the left flank but can't keep the ball in play.
41'
Maguire and Adams are at it again seconds later, as Adams turns Maguire and goes down trying to get past him. Maguire waves an imaginary card, hinting the Southampton man has dived to get him sent off. The ref isn't interested.
40'
H. Maguire gets yellow.
Maguire goes into the referee's book for treading on Adams' ankle as the pair challenge for a ball.
37'
This time it's Boufal's turn to have a shot blocked after he takes down Ings' high cross from the right. The Moroccan had time in United's box but maybe took one touch too many.
35'
United look most vulnerable when they're trying to pass the ball out of defence as Southampton are pressing high. Another sloppy pass out gives Romeu the chance to shoot. It's blocked by Lindelof.
33'
Mata finds himself some space in front of goal and drags an effort wide. Down the other end, Ings takes the ball down on the edge of United's box. It bounces safely wide of De Gea's goal.
32'
Boufal dances towards goal and decides to take on Wan-Bissaka to the left of United's box. The United right-back uses his go-go-gadget legs to intercept and clear it away.
30'
Southampton win a throw down their left. Danso hurls it into the danger area and Ward-Prowse tries to beat Young to the clearance, but he gives away a free-kick for nudging the ball down with his shoulder. Hasenhuttl isn't happy with that decision.
27'
Mata lofts a ball over the top to find Rashford racing down the right channel. Rashford fizzes a low cross across goal and Ward-Prowse puts it out to concede a corner.
26'
United are on the attack again. McTominay floats the ball towards the far post. Danso heads it away. Boufal nips in to beat Pereira to a high ball but sees his progress blocked by the winger. Southampton free-kick.
25'
Southampton look to bypass United's press and find Adams with a ball over the top. The striker can't keep the ball in under pressure from Lindelof and concedes a throw near United's corner flag.
24'
Young is penalised for a foul on Hojbjerg. Southampton can't get out of their half at the moment.
22'
James tests Gunn again with a shot from outside the box! It's right down the young English keeper's throat, and he pushes it up and out of harm's way.
21'
Pereira successfully gives Danso the slip and feeds Wan-Bissaka. Southampton manage to clear the full-back's cross away.
19'
K. Danso gets yellow.
Danso sees yellow for taking out Pereira. No complaints there.
18'
Wan-Bissaka unleashes a venomous shot on the volley when the ball's cut back and crossed to him at the far post. Fortunately for Southampton it's always rising.
16'
United camp for a while in Southampton's half until the home side win the ball back. Hojbjerg gallops upfield and tries a one-two with Danso but the Austrian can't find the Dane. Wan-Bissaka intercepts.
14'
James almost gets a second as Mata successfully finds him again. This time James' shot from outside the box is saved by Gunn.
10'
D. James has scored a goal for Manchester United! Assist by S. McTominay.
GOAL! 1-0 UNITED! McTominay goes on a run through midfield and feeds James wide left. Mata offers James the overlap but the winger doesn't need him as he cuts in and swerves a shot into the far top corner.
That was a swashbuckling run by McTominay who found himself with plenty of space behind the Saints' midfield. That goal could be the first of many in this game.
9'
This game is already looking open. Mata slides the ball to Pereira, whose shot deflects off a Southampton defender and bobbles up at a nice height for Gunn.
6'
Southampton's midfield is rather narrow, making it hard for United to pass out from the back. United win a throw when Ward-Prowse nicks the ball off Young.
4'
Pogba goes down after being hounded by Hojbjerg. United free-kick. They take it quickly, setting James free down the left. James looks for Rashford but the striker's touch fails him. The ball eventually comes to McTominay, who balloons a shot over the bar.
2'
Southampton have started brightly. Danso finds himself in space down the left and crosses low but Lindelof is there to clear.
1'
And we're off!
Hello and welcome to our live text commentary of this Premier League match between Southampton and Manchester United at St Mary's Stadium, Southampton.
Southampton's Premier League campaign is up and running after their win at Brighton last week. The Saints' opponents today are Manchester United, who are winless since their thumping of Chelsea on the opening weekend.
Southampton tend to score regularly at home and United have been leaky on the road lately, but then United love playing away at St. Mary's. This ground has seen its fair share of corkers between these two sides in past years. Let's hope this is another!
SOUTHAMPTON (4-2-2-2): Angus Gunn; Cedric Soares, Jannik Vestergaard, Jan Bednarek, Kevin Danso; Oriel Romeu, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (c); Sofiane Boufal, James Ward-Prowse; Che Adams, Danny Ings.
SUBS: Shane Long, Stuart Armstrong, Yan Valery, Alex McCarthy, Daniel N'Lundulu, Jack Stephens, Maya Yoshida.
MANCHESTER UNITED (4-2-3-1): David de Gea; Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire, Ashley Young (c); Scott McTominay, Paul Pogba; Daniel James, Juan Mata, Andreas Pereira; Marcus Rashford.
The two sides are on the St. Mary's pitch now! Southampton are in their usual red and white striped shirts and black shorts. United are wearing their black away shirt with white shorts.
That draw leaves Man Utd fourth in the Premier League on five points. Southampton lie 13th, a point behind in an incredibly tight early-season mid-table.
Southampton can take confidence from this result as they continue to improve under Hasenhuttl, while Man Utd need to be patient. It'll take more than just a few games for Solskjaer to turn their fortunes around. That's all for now. Goodbye!
