We're underway at the Wanda Metropolitano.
It's the first Madrid derby of the season and it presents a huge opportunity to make a statement for Atletico. Diego Simeone's men had made a strong start to the campaign, but they have pegged back in recent weeks, suffering a defeat at the hands of Real Sociedad and they were held last time out by Celta Vigo. Los Rojiblancos need to get back to winning ways to regain their momentum and taking down their arch rivals, who have crept ahead of them in the table would be a massive boost.
Good evening and welcome to the live commentary of the LaLiga clash between Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano.
Real have rounded into form in LaLiga over the last few weeks, beginning with their narrow 3-2 triumph over Levante. That performance had flaws despite the victory, and Zinedine Zidane appears to have got a response from his team particularly at the back. They've kept back-to-back clean sheets in their victories over Sevilla and Osasuna. However, they face a test this evening in a hostile atmosphere.
ATLETICO MADRID (4-4-2): Jan Oblak; Kieran Trippier, Stefan Savic, Jose Gimenez, Renan Lodi; Vitolo, Saul Niguez, Koke, Thomas Partey; Joao Felix, Diego Costa.
ATLETICO MADRID SUBS: Antonio Adan, Santiago Arias, Angel Correa, Thomas Lemar, Marcos Llorente, Hector Herrera, Felipe.
REAL MADRID (4-3-3): Thibaut Courtois; Daniel Carvajal, Sergio Ramos, Raphael Varane, Nacho Fernandez; Toni Kroos, Casemiro, Federico Valverde; Eden Hazard, Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema.
REAL MADRID SUBS: Alphonse Areola, Eder Militao, Luka Modric, James Rodriguez, Lucas Vazquez, Luka Jovic, Vinicius Junior.
Zinedine Zidane will be the happier of the two managers at the break. There has not been a lot of quality on the pitch, especially in the final third. The Frenchman will be pleased to see that his side have continued to operate with solidity at the back, carrying their recent good form in the league. A crucial 45 minutes awaits in what could be a statement game for both teams.
Atletico return to Champions League action during the week against Lokomotiv Moscow on the road, while Real Madrid play Club Brugge at the Bernabeu.
Thanks for joining our commentary this evening. Until next time, goodbye.
