Fair play to Villa who are still fighting despite knowing that the game's beyond them at this point. Kodjia has made a big difference since coming on - he's given Villa much more fight up top and has put the Saints centre-backs under pressure time and time again.
90'
We're into four minutes of added time.
87'
C. Adams enters the game and replaces D. Ings.
J. Kodjia gets yellow.
Three shots, two goals and a job well done for Ings today who takes his league tally to 11! He's taken off for Adams with a few minutes to go.
Kodjia gets frustrated and lashes out at Bednarak, receiving a yellow card for his troubles.
86'
Luiz gets a sight of goal from distance and tries his luck, but he's well off-balance and his effort is high and wide.
84'
Villa aren't giving up without a fight and Trezeguet manages to whip a low cross into the box for Wesley to attack, but he can't get the ball out from under his feet for a shot.
82'
M. Obafemi enters the game and replaces S. Long.
Saints now in possession, but Ings loses out and gives away a free-kick. A chance for Villa to get the ball forward again.
Long has put in a good shift up top and it was his shot that led to the opening goal, but he's taken off for Obafemi.
80'
Grealish wins another free-kick! Villa can sense something here. They're two goals down, but Southampton are just losing their confidence and allowing the hosts back into the game.
It's Trezeguet to take this set piece and he goes for goal himself, but it takes a touch off the wall on its way through and makes it easy for McCarthy to save.
79'
This is promising - Villa have a free-kick in a good position to the left of the goal. What can Grealish do here? He lays it off to Trezeguet for a shot, but it's into the wall.
76'
Oriol Romeu enters the game and replaces S. Armstrong.
Looking to hold onto their lead, Hasenhuttl sacrifices a more attacking threat in Armstrong for defensive midfielder Romeu.
Minute
Description
75'
J. Grealish has scored a goal for Aston Villa!
GOAL! GREALISH MAKES IT 3-1! Captain Jack takes matters into his own hands and it's a beauty from outside the box! Southampton clear the corner only as far as Grealish at the edge of the box and he chests it down superbly, lets it bounce then rifles his effort into the top-right corner.
74'
Often it's been the final ball letting Villa down. Case in point just now as Villa break and get into a threatening position after some good hold-up play from Kodjia, but Trezeguet then decides to ignore Guilbert on the overlap and instead float a cross into a crowded box that's easily defended.
72'
Luiz gives away yet another free-kick in a dangerous position inside the Villa half. It's Bertrand this time, but Engels heads it away.
68'
Trézéguet enters the game and replaces A. El Ghazi.
A yellow card proves to be El Ghazi's final contribution on a day where he's failed to deliver - he comes off for Trezeguet.
67'
A. El Ghazi gets yellow.
El Ghazi goes into Craig Pawson's book for giving Ings a shove to end a counter-attack.
66'
Villa are doing well to maintain pressure for the time being, but there's a lot of lateral passing going on and not much movement ahead of the ball. It's making it hard for Grealish, who's tending to drop deep to make things happen.
64'
Grealish now, inside to Luiz, who helps it on to El Ghazi, but his cross is blocked for a Villa corner.
62'
CHANCE! Redmond comes close to doing just that! He gets in behind the defence, takes a touch to get space for the shot and hits the side-netting from a tight angle!
58'
Kodjia's pressure results in Southampton giving the ball away and it's a chance now for Grealish to weave his way into a shooting position, but he loses out as Saints launch a counter of their own.
56'
J. Kodjia enters the game and replaces C. Hourihane.
An attacking change from Smith as he brings on Kodjia for Hourihane.
55'
This could get even messier than it already is. Southampton's football is oozing confidence against a Villa side whose defending is erratic at best.
51'
D. Ings has scored a goal for Southampton!
GOAAAL! A BRACE FOR INGS! He makes it 3-0 Southampton with a powerful finish at the near post. Hojbjerg starts the move with a great pass wide to Redmond, and his cross is poorly defended by Nakamba and Ings is in the right place again to shoot past Heaton.
49'
Fabulous football from Saints to play their way out of pressure at the back, but a free-flowing move eventually breaks down when Ings tries to switch play wide.
47'
Villa are on the front foot immediately and Targett wins a corner. Grealish takes high to the back post and it's defended. Grealish gets it back though and feeds Wesley, but he can't find an angle for a shot.
46'
KICK-OFF! We're back underway at Villa Park with the hosts in a perilous position.
45' +5
HALF-TIME: ASTON VILLA 0-2 SOUTHAMPTON.
45' +2
Is there a chance here for Villa? Grealish picks out Guilbert on the right and he hits one from range that McCarthy has to tip over the bar for a corner.
45'
Four minutes of time will be added on.
44'
J. Ward-Prowse gets yellow.
Ward-Prowse picks up the first yellow card of the game for catching Grealish from behind - free-kick for Villa coming up.
43'
Southampton win another corner - their fourth of the game - but it's cleared only as far as Hojbjerg at the egde of the box for a volley that goes well over the bar.
41'
Another corner for Southampton and it's Ward-Prowse again to take, but Hause this time clears.
35'
Where's the energy from Aston Villa? They're making it too easy for Southampton in possession - there's no desire to close attackers down, nor is there much coherence to their shape when they stand off.
31'
J. Stephens has scored a goal for Southampton! Assist by J. Ward-Prowse.
GOAAL! 2-0 SAINTS! Villa's heads are dropping as Stephens heads in a Ward-Prowse corner. He gets in front of El Ghazi and leaps to meet the delivery at the near post, heading across Heaton and into the right of the goal.
Fantastic ball, too, from Ward-Prowse - he's developing a reputation as something of a set piece specialist and he doesn't disappoint today.
30'
Villa are on the attack though, but Guilbert's cross is floated high into the box and it's easy for McCarthy to claim.
28'
Southampton are playing very well this half. They're strong in possession and offer a counter-attacking threat when off the ball, with the combination of both forms of attack proving difficult for Villa to deal with at the moment.
26'
Hause comes close to turning it into his own net! Redmond crosses for Long to head back across goal, and Hause then decides to chest it into Heaton, but the Villa keeper isn't expecting it and has to drop quickly to smother the ball before it crosses the line.
25'
Southampton keep the pressure up with a cross from Redmond needing a header to get it clear, but it's only as far as Cedric on the other flank to send the ball back into the box.
21'
D. Ings has scored a goal for Southampton!
GOAAAL! 1-0 SAINTS! Ings keeps his excellent run of form going! He's in the right place at the right time to get on the end of Long's effort. Long initially spun in behind the Villa defence to get on the end of Redmond's pass and drew a good save from Heaton, but Ings is on hand to convert the rebound.
19'
It's end-to-end at the moment as El Ghazi runs with the ball into the Villa final third and whips a low ball into the danger area, but Wesley's first-time shot is well wide.
18'
Southampton's turn to try and test Heaton now and Redmond does well to feed Bertrand on the underlap, but Long heads the cross over! That's a great chance to take the lead.
16'
Luiz isn't happy at all! He thinks Redmond's fouled him, but the Saints winger protests his innocence! Nothing given, but the two square up and Craig Pawson has to give them both a warning to calm down.
12'
What's the strategy here? Hause receives the ball at the back under no pressure and boots it out for a Saints goal-kick! It looks as though he was trying to pick out Grealish, but the Villa captain just wasn't on the same wavelength.
10'
Villa are on the ball for their first real spell of possession, but El Ghazi - trying to switch the point of attack - ends up hoofing the ball out for a Saints throw.
8'
M. Nakamba enters the game and replaces J. McGinn.
McGinn's game comes to an unfortunate early end as he's taken off for Nakamba. Dean Smith will be hoping he's not out for too long with the games coming thick and fast this Christmas.
4'
Southampton have another free-kick as El Ghazi is penalised for handball. Ward-Prowse again stands over the ball and his effort is on target, but Heaton catches relatively easily.
2'
Great start for Saints here and they're on the attack early on, winning a free-kick inside the Villa half. Ward-Prowse to deliver, but Armstrong makes a solid defensive header.

KICK-OFF! We're underway at Villa Park.
Hello and welcome to live coverage of Aston Villa against Southampton at Villa Park.
As we approach Christmas, is there a better gift than a massive three points for either of these two? Villa have lost three on the bounce and sit above the relegation zone on goal difference - they’re looking to avoid losing four in a row for the first time since February 2017. A home win would be vital in creating a bit of breathing room between themselves and Southampton, who are 18th. A relegation six-pointer in every sense of the phrase then.
ASTON VILLA XI (4-3-3): Tom Heaton: Frederic Guilbert, Bjorn Engels, Kortney Hause, Matt Targett; John McGinn, Douglas Luiz, Conor Hourihane; Anwar El Ghazi, Wesley, Jack Grealish.
SUBS: Jonathan Kodjia, Marvelous Nakamba, Henri Lansbury, Ahmed Elmohamady, Ezri Konsa, Orjan Nyland, Trezeguet.
SOUTHAMPTON XI (4-4-2): Alex McCarthy; Cedric Soares, Jack Stephens, Jan Bednarak, Ryan Bertrand; Stuart Armstrong, James Ward-Prowse, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Nathan Redmond; Shane Long, Danny Ings.
SUBS: Maya Yoshida, Sofiane Boufal, Angus Gunn, Michael Obafemi, Che Adams, Jannik Vestergaard, Oriol Romeu.
Don’t go anywhere because the teams are out and kick-off is on the way!
This has been a poor performance from Villa. They've had more of the ball, but struggled to turn it into something subtantial, forcing just two saves from McCarthy - once from El Ghazi in the 14th minute then from Guilbert in added time. Grealish, too, has been relatively quiet - three key passes, but no shots from the key man.
That's all from us for Southampton's 3-1 away win over Aston Villa. Thanks for staying with us and goodbye for now!
What a win for Southampton! It means they're up to 17th and out of the relegation zone on Christmas Day, with a three-point cushion between themselves and Villa, who drop to 18th with four defeats in a row - their worst run for over two years. Up next, it's Chelsea away for Saints and another relegation six-pointer against Norwich at home for Villa.
