R. Lewandowski has scored a goal for Bayern Munich!
GOOALLLL! LEWANDOWSKI SCORES LATE ON TO PULL ONE BACK! Hack gets an unchallenged headed clearance all wrong, flicking backward for Zentner but instead finding Lewandowski. The Polish forward takes one touch into the area before coolly slotting into the bottom right corner to pull one back and make it 2-1 late on.
90' +3
Muller pushes backwards into Zentner and the goalkeeper ends up down on the ground. The hosts exchange a few words with Bayern's forward but Osmers intervenes, removing any arguments as he awards the home side a free-kick inside their own area.
90' +2
Every Mainz player is inside their own half as Kohr smashes a clearance to Neuer, the only man inside Bayern's half. Svensson and his coaching staff applaud as they approach a memorable victory over the Bavarians.
90' +1
There will be four minutes of added time as Muller carelessly loses possession in the left-hand channel.
90'
D. Kohr enters the game and replaces L. Barreiro.
At the same time as Brosinski's introduction, Kohr also replaces Barreiro.
89'
D. Brosinski enters the game and replaces D. da Costa.
Da Costa wanders off the pitch, greeted by the hug of Svensson and Brosinski is the man who comes on.
88'
Pavard floats another cross into the area but once again Muller can only flick a header well wide of Zentner's target. Down the other end, Mwene does excellently to win the hosts a corner and a well-deserved breather.
87'
D. da Costa gets yellow.
Davies dances around Barreiro before being hacked down by da Costa. The right wing-back's sliding tackle looks to have caught more the ball than the man but referee Osmers shows the yellow card to da Costa nevertheless.
86'
Davies chips a cross to the far post, where Hack outjumps Muller to head away. On the opposite flank, Pavard stands up a cross towards Lewandowski but Zentner claims with real authority above the Polish forward, much to the delight of the Mainz bench.
Minute
Description
84'
Boateng clips over the top for Lewandowski and the Polish forward taps around Zentner before going down. Bayern barely appeal for a penalty, however, Lewandowski throws his arms in the air as if to suggest some form of frustration with Osmers' decision.
83'
Gnabry drifts inside and looks for Muller at the near post with a deep, left-footed cross from the right flank. Muller tries but fails to get onto the cross as Zentner gratefully grabs the ball inside the six-yard area.
80'
R. Glatzel enters the game and replaces K. Onisiwo.
Another change comes for the hosts as Glatzel comes on for Onisiwo.
79'
Svensson's men are heading towards seven games unbeaten, a victory which would take them five points clear of the relegation zone. Svensson, however, doesn't look bothered about that as he argues with the fourth official and prepares another substitution.
78'
Onisiwo thinks he has a chance to drive through the middle, however, Davies shows his remarkable speed to race back and intercept before Neuer is called upon. While the hosts haven't created much at the other end, Zentner hasn't been required to do too much in the home side's defensive third.
75'
Choupo-Moting feeds Lewandowski, who pokes into the area for the run of Muller. The German looks set to test Zentner but he can't sort his feet quickly enough and St. Juste intervenes with a right-footed clearance.
74'
Musiala gestures to the referee that Boetius has dived but Osmers sees it differently as he awards Mainz a free-kick. Bayern are pressing high still, however, as of yet the hosts look comfortable and are defending their two-goal advantage with real confidence.
72'
R. Lewandowski gets yellow.
Oztunali thinks he has been released to the right of goal, however, the assistant on the near side has their flag up for offside. The Bavarians rush to take the free-kick and have just over 20 minutes to find a way back into this game.
Lewandowski again catches Barreiro with a loose arm to the face and this time referee Osmers cautions the Polish forward.
70'
S. Gnabry enters the game and replaces D. Alaba.
Flick, with no choice but to attack, sends on Gnabry for Alaba.
68'
J. Boëtius enters the game and replaces R. Quaison.
Quaison, who powered home a first-half header to double the hosts' lead, makes his way off and Boetius is the man to replace him.
66'
Oztunali and Boateng go against one another for a loose ball in the left-hand channel. Both of them look pretty high with their challenges but the referee awards a free-kick to the visitors, without feeling the need to take any further action.
65'
Davies carries the ball half the pitch down the left, eventually playing to Choupo-Moting, who flicks behind him for Kimmich. The German midfielder, strangely, opts to hit a first-time strike from 25 yards out and his effort sails over the crossbar.
63'
Kouassi fires a wayward pass nowhere near any of his team-mates after looking for Pavard on the right. Flick cuts a frustrated figure on the touchline and could he soon look to Gnabry to get the visitors back in the game?
61'
Oztunali has the chance to drive down the right-hand channel but Boateng shows his pace to race back before playing to Neuer. Chances will continue to fall to Mainz on the counter-attack, it is just whether the hosts can capitalise on them or not in the second half.
59'
J. St. Juste gets yellow.
St. Juste clatters into the back of Lewandowski in the air. The Bayern staff suggest an elbow, while Svensson protests his centre-back's innocence. Referee Osmers dishes out his second Mainz yellow card in as many minutes to the defender.
58'
P. Mwene gets yellow.
Mwene becomes the first Mainz man in Osmers' book for a late tackle on Pavard on the left-hand touchline.
53'
Da Costa falters in possession as Davies sprints up to press him. It has been a better second-half start by the visitors, who struggled to get to grips with Mainz's energy in the first half.
52'
Pavard rushes around Musiala on the overlap and the youngster plays in his right-back. Lewandowski looks to latch onto the Frenchman's cross towards the near post but the Pole can only turn well wide of the target.
51'
Hack and Zentner appear confused after a Pavard cross from the right gets in between the pair. The centre-back, however, takes charge as he flicks away a clearance with Choupo-Moting ready and waiting at the back post.
50'
Mwene drives down the line, however, his attacking efforts come to an end as Pavard intervenes. On the opposite flank, Davies races inwards before sensibly play back to Boateng as the visitors look to patiently carve out an opening.
48'
Musiala progresses down the right-hand channel but his cross fails to find Lewandowski at the near post. Due to Svensson's half-time substitution, it looks like a change of shape for Mainz, with Oztunali sitting a little deeper and moving back into midfield for the hosts.
46'
L. Öztunalı enters the game and replaces J. Burkardt.
E. Choupo-Moting enters the game and replaces L. Sané.
J. Musiala enters the game and replaces K. Coman.
T. Nianzou enters the game and replaces L. Goretzka.
Kouassi also comes on for Goretzka.
Svensson, perhaps an enforced decision by the medical team, brings on Oztunali for Burkardt at half-time.
Referee Osmers gets the second half underway!
Flick doesn't hang about as he makes a triple change at half-time. The first of which sees Choupo-Moting replace Sane.
Musiala makes his way on at half-time and Coman is the man to make way.
45' +3
HALF-TIME: MAINZ 2-0 BAYERN MUNICH
45' +2
Kimmich finds the forward run of Goretzka into the area but the German midfielder can't lift a strike over Zentner. On the side of the pitch, Onisiwo is down clutching his wrist but Bayern take the corner still, which gets cleared comfortably.
45' +1
Sane drifts past Mwene, reaching the byline before attempting a low, right-footed cross towards the near post. Lewandowski looks interested but St. Juste has different ideas as he clears long.
44'
Flick and his men need half-time to regroup after a remarkable start by the hosts. Barring Lewandowski's chance, the visitors have rarely tested Zentner as they continue to struggle to get to grips with Mainz's high intensity pressing game.
42'
D. Alaba gets yellow.
The hosts' anger carries on as da Costa gets brought down in the middle of the park. Mainz's players gather around referee Osmers and the official shows a yellow card to Alaba, taking Bayern's yellow card tally to three for the first half.
41'
L. Goretzka gets yellow.
Goretzka races through the middle to hack down Burkardt with a strong, sliding tackle. He becomes the second Bayern player in the book but Mainz's players rush towards referee Osmers as they feel the challenge was reckless. He disagrees and sticks with his yellow card decision.
37'
R. Quaison has scored a goal for Mainz! Assist by P. Mwene.
GOOOALLLLLL!! 2-0 MAINZ! Boateng’s mistake leads to a free-kick wide on the left. Mwene whips in the set-piece, finding Quaison, who won the free-kick, inside the six-yard area and the forward powers a header past Neuer from close range.
After Quaison wins a free-kick in the left-hand channel, Mwene delivers an inviting cross towards the six-yard area. Quaison drifts in between two defenders to head past Neuer from close range to double Mainz's lead.
36'
J. Boateng gets yellow.
Boateng brings down Quaison in the left-hand channel as the centre-back was perhaps unaware of the forward's presence behind him. The German defender becomes the first name in the book and the hosts have a free-kick in the left-hand channel.
34'
Da Costa spins and turns but he can't evade the attentions of Davies in the left-hand channel. Mainz press incredibly high, however, Bayern show their quality as they play around their opposition with ease. For now, the hosts remain 1-0 up, courtesy of Burkardt's volleyed opener.
28'
Boateng whips a hopeful pass for Muller into the area and the German does well to hook a right-footed attempt back towards the left-hand corner. Zentner, however, remains unmoved as he watches Muller's effort drift wide of the target and out of play.
26'
Alaba stands up a pass over the left of the hosts' defence for the run of Davies but the Canadian can't get to it as St. Juste ushers the ball out of play. Svensson's men remain insistent on playing out from the back, however, they lose possession through Quaison's wayward pass.
25'
Sane beats Quaison, coasting inside before drilling a tame effort into the hands of Zentner. Flick's men are growing into this game as they now appear to be getting to grips with Mainz's fast-paced start.
23'
Another Bayern corner comes as Kimmich finds the head of Goretzka inside the area. The German midfielder touches down for Sane, however, after a little scramble, Quaison manages to take charge and clear long.
22'
Zentner, who has largely been a spectator in the first 20 minutes of this game, is called upon as he rises high above Lewandowski and Muller to collect Pavard's deep cross. The visitors then go down the left before Zentner is required to punch away Kimmich's cross.
21'
Quaison nearly goes through one-on-one with Neuer, however, his first touch lets him down and the German goalkeeper rushes out to intervene. Down the other end, Coman wins the away side's first corner of the game, which gets comfortably headed away at the near post.
19'
Despite the reigning German champions being 10 points clear and set for another Bundesliga title, it is unclear at the minute which of the two sides are the dominant force in German football. Mainz are pressing high, giving Bayern no chance to think, while Flick's men look lethargic in possession.
14'
Bayern, as they have done all season, look to play out from the back but Mainz refuse to let them do so. Onisiwo races forward in pressure, forcing Neuer to slam a clearance into the forward before the ball cannons out for a goal-kick.
12'
Onisiwo powers down the left-hand channel, reaching the byline before looking to cut back towards the penalty spot. Goretzka is on hand to intercept and remove any opportunity, however, the visitors still appear slow and shocked as they struggle to get to grips with Mainz's fast-paced start.
8'
Coman has the chance to run at da Costa but opts to pass for the overlapping run of Davies, who sees his cross headed away at the front post. Mainz then have the opportunity to counter before Alaba cynically intervenes in the middle of the park.
6'
A long pass gets knocked over the head of Davies, who from inside his own area, volleys back to Neuer. While the intervention appears accidental, the Mainz bench appeal for a pass back but referee Olmers allows play to go on.
5'
Mainz, encouraged by Burkardt's early goal, are moving possession about with real authority in the early stages. Svensson's team are getting high up the pitch and into the faces of the visitors, who appear slightly shocked by the hosts' positive start.
3'
J. Burkardt has scored a goal for Mainz!
GOALLLLL!!! 1-0 MAINZ! Mwene drives down the left, progressing past Bayern’s midfield before clipping over the top for the run of Burkardt. Boateng gets in the way of Davies, flicking a header over Davies and into the patch of Burkardt, who powerfully volleys from the edge of the area. Neuer should save the strike but he can only push the forward’s effort into the back of his own net to give Mainz a surprising early lead!
1'
Referee Harm Osmers blows his whistle to get this game underway!
Hello and welcome to live coverage of the Bundesliga fixture between Mainz and Bayern Munich.
While Bayern’s Champions League hopes were crushed by Paris Saint-Germain, the visitors bounced back with a routine 2-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday. With RB Leipzig faltering, Hans-Dieter Flick’s men are now ten points clear at the top of the Bundesliga and, with four games remaining, victory here would confirm their ninth successive top-flight title.
BAYERN MUNICH (4-2-3-1): Manuel Neuer; Benjamin Pavard, Jerome Boateng, David Alaba, Alphonso Davies; Joshua Kimmich, Leon Goretzka; Kingsley Coman, Thomas Muller, Leroy Sane; Robert Lewandowski.
SUBS: Alexander Nubel, Jamal Musiala, Bouna Sarr, Tanguy Kouassi, Serge Gnabry, Marc Roca, Tiago Dantas, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, Javi Martinez.
SUBS: Kevin Stoger, Stefan Bell, Levin Oztunali, Adam Szalai, Finn Dahmen, Jean-Paul Boetius, Daniel Brosinski, Robert Glatzel, Dominik Kohr.
After a disappointing start to the season, in which the hosts lost their first six matches and picked up only six points from their first 13 games, Mainz have recovered in recent weeks. Bo Svensson’s men are unbeaten in their last six games, lifting them two points clear of the relegation zone and most recently scraped past Werder Bremen 1-0.
Flick may look to make changes, such as Musiala or Gnabry, at half-time to inject some intensity into Bayern's play, given their lethargic first-half start. The Bavarians, however, will not worry as they came back from a similar position to win 5-2 in the reverse fixture this season. Svensson, in contrast, will be delighted with his side's hard work and will simply be asking for more of the same in the next half.
MAINZ (3-4-1-2): Robin Zentner; Moussa Niakhate, Alexander Hack, Jeremiah St. Juste; Danny da Costa, Danny Latz, Leandro Barreiro Martins, Philipp Mwene; Robin Quaison; Karim Onisiwo, Jonathan Burkardt.
That is all from this Bundesliga fixture, until next time!
Flick's side could be Bundesliga champions by their next game, in which they host Borussia Monchengladbach, if second-placed RB Leipzig fall to defeat against Stuttgart tomorrow. Mainz, who are now seven unbeaten, jump up to 12th, five points clear of the relegation zone with the added bonus of a game in hand. They next face Hertha Berlin a week on Monday.
