We're under way in Saint Petersburg.
Good afternoon and welcome to the live commentary of the Euro 2020 Group E clash between Poland and Slovakia in Saint Petersburg.
Slovakia reached the Euros at the expense of Northern Ireland in their playoff clash courtesy of a Michal Duris' winner in extra-time. Stefan Tarkovic's men were in the competition five years ago and reached the round of 16 where they were soundly beaten by Germany. It was a learning experience for Slovakia and they will have been richer for it. They carry a five-match unbeaten run into the Euros, although one of those was a victory which came against Russia in a World Cup qualifier in March. Slovakia need to be flawless today.
POLAND (4-3-3): Wojciech Szczesny; Bartosz Bereszynski, Kamil Glik, Jan Bednarek, Maciej Rybus; Karol Linetty, Grzegorz Krychowiak, Mateusz Klich; Kamil Jozwiak, Robert Lewandowski, Piotr Zielinski.
POLAND SUBS: Pawel Dawidowicz, Tomasz Kedziora, Kacper Kozlowski, Karol Swiderski, Lukasz Skorupski, Jakub Moder, Przemyslaw Placheta, Przemyslaw Frankowski, Lukasz Fabianski, Jakub Swierczok, Michal Helik, Tymoteusz Puchacz.
SLOVAKIA SUBS: Denis Varo, Jan Gregus, Vladimir Weiss, Tomas Suslov, Laszlo Benes, Dusan Kuciak, Patrik Hrosovsky, David Hancko, Michal Duris, Stanislav Lobotka, Marek Rodak, Martin Koscelnik.
Poland have been underwhelming in the first half and easily exposed by Slovakia on the break. Paulo Sousa has a big team-talk ahead of him to get a response out of his players for the second half.
SLOVAKIA (4-2-3-1): Martin Dubravka; Peter Pekarik, Lubomir Satka, Milan Skriniar, Tomas Hubocan; Juraj Kucka, Jakub Hromada; Lukas Haraslin, Marek Hamsik, Robert Mak; Ondrej Duda.
Poland are not in great form entering the competition, winning only one of their last seven games. They drew against Russia and Iceland in their warm-up matches, while their last competitive action resulted in a 2-1 defeat to England in a World Cup qualifier. Tournament football tends to throw the form book out of the window and Poland will be determined to make a similar run to their last experience at the Euros where they reached the quarter-finals. However, Paulo Sousa and his men need a good start this evening in a competitive group.
Slovakia are next in action against Sweden in Saint Petersburg on Friday, while Poland travel to Seville to take on Spain on Saturday.
Thanks for joining our commentary this evening. Until next time, goodbye.
