We're under way here at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Girona are a side with very different ambitions to Madrid. They've just been promoted from Segunda and are focused on trying to avoid relegation at the first time of asking. The Catalan side are currently second from bottom in 19th having taken nine points from their opening eleven games. Should they secure an unlikely away victory at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, or even take a point, they'll climb out of the bottom three and climb as high as 16th.
Madrid have made two changes from the side that beat Sevilla 3-1 last weekend. Rudiger has replaced Militao in defence and Camavinga has come in for Tchouameni in midfield.
Hello and welcome to the live text commentary for Real Madrid's LaLiga clash with Girona at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Madrid are in the midst of a good moment. They're currently second in La Liga having taken 31 points from their opening 11 fixtures. Barcelona are currently ahead of them on goal difference - but they've played a game more than their great rivals from the Spanish capital. Madrid will regain first place should they win or draw against Girona.
Girona have made three changes from the side that drew 1-1 with Osasuna last weekend. Gutierrez has replaced Hernandez in defence, Martinez has come in for Vallejo to accommodate a formation change and drop to centre-back, while Fernandez starts in place of Villa on the left.
The atmosphere at the Santiago Bernabeu is flat, as it tends to be for afternoon kick-offs against smaller clubs. Madrid need to step things up a gear in the second half in order to liven the crowd up and increase the intensity in what's been a rather uninspiring encounter so far.
Girona earn a deserved point at the Santiago Bernabeu. It was Madrid who took the lead through Vinicius in the second half only for the visitors to equalise through Stuani from the spot inside the final ten minutes. The result helps Girona climb out of the bottom three, into 16th, and sees Madrid leap-frog Barcelona and regain the leadership of La Liga.
Thank you for joining us for the live text commentary for this match. Until next time, goodbye.
Madrid host Celtic in the Champions League on Wednesday before travelling to Rayo Vallecano in La Liga next Monday evening. Girona welcome Athletic Bilbao to their corner of Catalonia on Friday night.
