After a big build-up, Asensio blasts a wild free-kick far over the top from close to the edge of the box. What a waste! Is that Real Madrid's last chance gone?
90' +5
It's all Madrid now, as Los Blancos surge forward in search of a late leveller. Another direct run from Vinicius forces Moreno into a foul on the edge of Villarreal's area.

After Rodrygo's 20-yard free-kick is deflected over for a corner, Modric lets fly with a shot following the set-piece and sends it well wide of the right-hand post.

J. Mojica enters the game and replaces Álex Baena.
Kiko Femenía enters the game and replaces S. Chukwueze.
Baena went close with several attempts without scoring today, and he is now replaced by Mojica as Quique Setien seeks to secure a famous victory for Villarreal.
Perhaps set to be the match-winning hero, Chukwueze makes way for Femenia to come on.
90'
An ill-advised strike at goal by Nacho from outside the area clears the crossbar, as seven minutes of stoppage time are indicated by the fourth official.
88'
A remarkable match is not finished just yet, as both sides pass the ball urgently into the acres of space ceded by their opponents. It's so wide open, but can Villarreal close this result out now?
80'
S. Chukwueze has scored a goal for Villarreal! Assist by Álex Baena.
CHUKWUEZE STRIKES AGAIN! A brilliant curling effort from the edge of the box puts Villarreal ahead! Having exchanged the ball with Baena on the right, he dips his shoulder and opens up space before picking out the far corner and leaving Courtois well beaten! It's 3-2 to the Yellow Submarine, and have they sunk mighty Madrid here?
Baena plays a give-and-go with Chukwueze, setting up the chance for his colleague to run in from the right and score a spectacular goal.
75'
E. Camavinga enters the game and replaces Dani Ceballos.
Camavinga is now introduced in the Madrid midfield, with Ceballos withdrawn to make way.

72'
L. Modrić enters the game and replaces A. Tchouaméni.
Ancelotti calls on the experience of Modric to steady the ship, as Tchouameni makes way in midfield.
70'
José Luis Morales has scored a goal for Villarreal!
VILLARREAL LEVEL AGAIN! After it was initially ruled out by the referee, the visitors' second equaliser now stands! Chukwueze broke through on the right side of the box, then when it broke for Morales in the centre, at the second attempt the substitute turned it past Courtois from close range! The VAR corrects the decision and it's 2-2 at Bernabeu!
69'
J. Foyth gets yellow.
For his latest foul on Vinicius - this time a slight tug on the Brazilian's shirt - Foyth is shown a yellow card for repeat offending.
67'
Alberto Moreno enters the game and replaces Yeremy Pino.
José Luis Morales enters the game and replaces G. Lo Celso.
Pino is also withdrawn, with Moreno coming on in the young winger's place.
Quique Setien switches around his attacking lineup, as Lo Celso makes way for Morales.
61'
With Asensio driving through the centre and towards the Villarreal box, Baena decides to bring his opponent down with a trip and concedes a free-kick. From the set-piece, Militao can't control his back-post volley on the stretch.
59'
F. Valverde enters the game and replaces K. Benzema.
As Benzema is rested ahead of next week's Champions League tie, Valverde comes on for Madrid.
57'
Following a challenge on Chukwueze deep inside his own half, Nacho has pulled up with an injury. It seems that he was caught by the forward's studs. He'll continue for now, though.
55'
After a shaky start to the second half, Villarreal now carve open Madrid again. Chukwueze bundles the ball through for Pino on the left byline, before Nacho intervenes with a desperate clearance.
51'
From 20 yards out, Lo Celso beats the defensive wall with a dipping free-kick, but his shot tamely finds the gloves of Courtois by the right-hand post.
48'
Vinícius Júnior has scored a goal for Real Madrid! Assist by Dani Ceballos.
REAL BACK IN FRONT! Not long after the interval, the hosts go 2-1 up! After taking the ball from Ceballos and driving into the box before powering past Mandi and Chukwueze, a composed Vinicius finishes the move by placing the ball past Reina from close range!
Slipping the ball through the eye of a needle on the right side of the area, Ceballos picks out goalscorer Vinicius.
46'
Éder Militão enters the game and replaces D. Alaba.
Not emerging for the second half, Alaba is withdrawn from the Real Madrid defence; Militao has been sent on in his place.
Villarreal kick off, and we are back under way in Madrid, where the hosts have made a half-time change.
45' +3
HALF-TIME: REAL MADRID 1-1 VILLARREAL
Foyth is lured into a challenge on Vinicius 20 yards out on the left of Villarreal's area and concedes a free-kick. From the set-piece, the ball is recycled and Nacho plants a header wide of the right-hand post from close range.
41'
Still, Villarreal are not satisifed. They have deservedly hauled themselves level, now they build again in search of a second goal. Ancelotti is clearly unhappy on the sidelines.
39'
S. Chukwueze has scored a goal for Villarreal! Assist by G. Lo Celso.
A typically subtle short pass through the centre by Lo Celso sets up Chukwueze for the game's second goal.
VILLARREAL PULL LEVEL! Rewarded for their attacking endeavour, the visitors equalise! Chukwueze receives a clever throughball from Lo Celso, then dances past Nacho with ease before picking out the bottom-left corner! It's 1-1 at Bernabeu, and there's surely more goals to come!
38'
On the stretch, Pedraza's cross from the left byline almost picks out Lo Celso in the centre, but Alaba intervenes with a last-gasp block for Madrid.
35'
Alfonso Pedraza gets yellow.
For clipping Asensio deep inside his own half, Pedraza is perhaps rather harshly booked by the referee.
The visitors continue to fly forward, as Baena drives another attempt over the bar before Chukwueze tests Courtois with a low shot which is placed too centrally to beat the big Belgian.
33'
Manu Trigueros enters the game and replaces Ramon Terrats.
An early tactical switch from Quique Setien sees Trigueros brought on to replace Terrats in midfield. The latter is not happy at his withdrawal and walks straight down the tunnel.
31'
Madrid are probing patiently around the edge of Villarreal's box, eagerly seeking another opening. They are really attacking with freedom today, making for an entertaining game so far.
25'
Yeremy Pino gets yellow.
A late lunge on Rudiger brings the big defender down and earns Pino the game's first yellow card.
22'
An ambitious raking ball up from the back by Alaba almost picks out Benzema in the centre, but it just skips away from the French striker and into the gloves of Reina.
18'
After both Rudiger and Alaba fail to get the ball clear with headers inside the Madrid area, Baena mishits a shot into the ground, allowing Courtois to make a simple save in the centre of his goal.
16'
Pau Torres is unfortunate, scores an own goal!
MADRID LEAD! Having created an opening by storming through the centre and laying the ball off to Vinicius on the right byline, Asensio pulls it across goal from the latter's cutback and Torres then bundles it past his own goalkeeper! An own goal opens the scoring, but Asensio was the architect: 1-0 Madrid!
13'
Racing back into position, Mandi dives in to make an important block on Nacho's cutback from the left side of the area, snuffing out the danger.
12'
Alaba concedes a free-kick for an over-eager attempt to steal the ball from Parejo in the centre circle, but Villarreal then lose the ball when Pedraza goes down easily on the left flank.
8'
It's still all Villarreal, even if the visitors can't quite work any openings. They have started boldly and will not make it easy for a much-changed Madrid today.
6'
Villarreal are enjoying some sustained possession just inside the Madrid half, as they outnumber their opponents in the centre due to playing without a recognised centre-forward.
4'
A second successive corner from the right finds the head of Rudiger in the centre of the area, and Reina is called upon to turn away the defender's powerful effort. The flag then goes up for offside in any case.
3'
An attempted cross from the right wing is blocked behind by the outstretched boot of Pino, and Madrid have the game's first corner-kick.

The home side kick off, and we are under way in Madrid!
Hello and welcome to live coverage of today's La Liga clash between Real Madrid and Villarreal at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu!
Though they stormed to a 4-0 victory over Barcelona in the second leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final on Wednesday, Real Madrid trail their Catalan counterparts by 11 points in the La Liga table and look set to come up short in the defence of their title. Carlo Ancelotti's side enter today's match having won just three times in their last 11 league meetings with Villarreal - and none of their last three. Los Blancos suffered a 2-1 loss in the reverse fixture earlier this year but are unbeaten in their last 17 league games at Bernabeu.
Villarreal have won just one of 22 previous La Liga away games against Real Madrid, but following a 2-1 victory at La Ceramica in January they have the chance to record back-to-back wins over Los Blancos for the very first time. After four straight defeats at the start of 2023, Quique Setien's side have gone unbeaten through their last five league matches, winning both of the last two without conceding - the most recent being a 2-0 home success against Real Sociedad last weekend. They sit sixth in the standings, some seven points shy of fourth spot in the race for Champions League qualification.
REAL MADRID (4-3-3): Thibaut Courtois; Lucas Vazquez, Antonio Rudiger, David Alaba, Nacho; Marco Asensio, Aurelien Tchouameni, Dani Ceballos; Rodrygo, Karim Benzema, Vinicius Junior.
SUBS: Andriy Lunin, Luis Lopez, Eduardo Camavinga, Daniel Carvajal, Mariano Diaz, Jesus Vallejo, Alvaro Odriozola, Eder Militao, Luka Modric, Federico Valverde, Eden Hazard, Toni Kroos.
VILLARREAL (4-3-3): Pepe Reina; Juan Foyth, Aissa Mandi, Pau Torres, Alfonso Pedraza; Ramon Terrats, Dani Parejo, Giovani Lo Celso; Samuel Chukwueze, Yeremi Pino, Alex Baena.
SUBS: Filip Jorgensen, Jorge Cuenca, Haissem Hassan, Kiko Femenia, Carlo Adriano, Manu Trigueros, Alberto Moreno, Johan Mojica, Jose Luis Morales.
The players are all out on the pitch at a floodlit Bernabeu, and kick-off is now just moments away!
Before Nacho nodded wide just before half-time, Villarreal had attempted the last eight shots in the game. They truly were in the ascendancy as the first half wore on, but can they recapture such momentum after the break and post back-to-back La Liga wins over Madrid for the first time ever?
That's all from Madrid today, so thank you for joining us and goodbye!
Next up for Madrid is a quarter-final first-leg clash with Chelsea at Bernabeu - the fixture which prompted so many changes from Ancelotti today - and Villarreal will seek a fourth victory on the bounce when they host Valladolid next weekend.
