Still Milan hold on, keeping Carpi camped in their own half. It hasn't been vintage, but Mihajlovic certainly won't mind if they can hang on.
90' +1
There will be three minutes added on here.
90'
Milan keep the ball in by the corner flag after the throw-in, with Antonelli, doing well. Bonaventura then lures Marrone into a cheap foul.
89'
Boateng has been a calming presence on the ball and he does well this time, holding it up and then releasing Bonaventura, who shields the ball and wins an advanced throw-in.
87'
Brilliant play by Bacca, who receives a pass just inside the visitors' half and leaves his marker for dead with his first touch. He goes charging towards the area and eventually goes down under pressure from Letizia, but again the referee say no penalty.
86'
Milan have done well to keep Carpi quiet as an attacking threat in the last 20 minutes or so, but that could all be for nothing yet if they do not keep their concentration.
84'
CARPI ESCAPE! Antonelli does brilliantly as he races on to a loose ball on the edge of the area and then clips it into the box, collecting it in a dangerous position. He belts the ball into the goalmouth, only for Honda's eventual effort to be deflected just wide.
82'
Honda and Bonaventura both stand over it... It's the latter who strikes, bending a decent-looking effort over the wall. However, his attempt also flies just over the crossbar.
81'
Excellent hold-up play by Bacca, as the Colombian receives a pass in to feet with two defenders snapping at him. He turns one and then wins a free-kick about 25 yards from goal.
Minute
Description
79'
The resulting free-kick is played in very close to Abbiati, who fumbles it initially, before then pouncing upon it and gratefully clutching it to his chest.
78'
Raphael Martinho enters the game and replaces L. Lollo.
Final change for Carpi now, as Martinho relieves Lollo.
77'
R. Montolivo gets yellow.
Lasagna is the dangerman again for Carpi, seizing on a forward pass from Marrone and then getting a shot away from 20 yards, which Abbiati gets behind, though his stop was by no means convincing.
Wild tackle from Montolivo there, as the midfielder goes flying in and catches Pasciuti. The Milan man gets a booking for his efforts.
76'
The home side are playing a very risky game here. Abbiati dawdles with his clearance and ends up slicing the ball up into the air. It lands on the edge of the box and Antonelli just about deals with it, hacking clear.
74'
Milan have seemingly been able to ride Carpi's pressure and are beginning to look a little more in control and now win a corner, as Honda's 25-yard effort is deflected behind. Nevertheless, they do not look convincing at the back.
72'
Another Milan switch now, as Kucka - who has had a good game - makes way for Bertolacci.
70'
A. Bertolacci enters the game and replaces J. Kucka.
Audacious effort! Milan combine well up the right with Di Sciglio and Kucka, who is released into the final third and slams a powerful effort into the danger area. It's not clear if it's a cross or a shot, but Brkic is forced to back-track and punch it out from under the crossbar.
68'
Good move by the visitors as they get numbers forward and cause Milan problems again, but luckily for the home side Mancosu's effort from 20 yards is wild and goes well over.
66'
K. Boateng gets yellow.
Boateng is the latest Milan player to direct his anger towards the referee, as the Germany-born midfielder appears to be harshly penalised for nudging Marrone off the ball.
Boateng doesn't escape a booking this time, though, as he again fouls in the midfield, this time knocking Pasciuti over.
64'
Tentative Milan penalty claims turned down as Antonelli plays a good give-and-go with Bonaventura and is then barged in the back by Crimi. Nothing is given by the referee, though.
62'
WHAT A CHANCE! Great play intially by Kucka, who charges into the area, riding two challenges and then shoots from a tight angle, completely missing the target. In a prime position in the goalmouth was Bacca, who is furious.
60'
Carpi are defending a lot deeper in the second half, thus giving Milan little opportunity to break in behind so far. Bacca has been starved of service since the break.
58'
First switch for Milan now sees Niang - who has been very quiet since the break - replaced by Boateng, who will no doubt add a little more steel to the Milan midfield.
56'
K. Boateng enters the game and replaces M. Niang.
That's a bit better from the hosts, as Antonelli brings the ball forward from left-back, links with Bonaventura and then sees the move die out due to a lack of support. Carpi instantly attempt to exploit the defender's venture forward, but Montolivo covers well.
54'
Good play again from the visitors, as Lasagna runs at Milan and clips a delivery into the area, only for it to be deflected behind. The home side look really rattled at the moment.
52'
Milan are all over the place at the moment. Carpi are managing to stretch the game and suddenly they appear a different proposition in the final third with some pace.
50'
M. Mancosu has scored a goal for Carpi! Assist by K. Lasagna.
Brilliant run by the forward, showcasing great pace and fine awareness to find Mancosu. Nightmare start to the second half for Milan.
GOAL!!! MANCOSU MAKES AN INSTANT IMPACT! Lasagna does brilliantly on the right, as he charges into the Milan half with immense speeds, surging away from Romagnoli and then eventually squaring into the area for his team-mate, who is left with an easy finish. Game on!
49'
Decent opportunity there for Milan! Niang's corner delivery is good and is met by Antonelli's head, flicking it on and the near post. Unfortunately for the hosts, though, it hits a defender before it can drop at the back post and then Carpi clear.
Better from Carpi now, as Gabriel races in from the left, taking on a couple of defenders and then teeing up Crimi on the edge of the area, forcing Abbiati into a save.
48'
Good play by Bacca, as the striker receives a neat pass from Honda, charges out towards the right and then sees a cross knocked behind for a corner.
46'
Gabriel Silva gets yellow.
M. Crimi enters the game and replaces C. Zaccardo.
M. Mancosu enters the game and replaces R. Bianco.
And Crimi is the second to enter proceedings, taking the place of Bianco in midfield.
Gabriel goes into the referee's book now, cynically dragging Honda to the floor and losing possession.
Off we go for the second half in Milan. The visitors have made a couple of change at the break, the first is Mancosu for Zaccardo.
45' +1
HALF-TIME!
45'
The Carpi corner is promising and lands kindly for Lasagna, but the striker's effort is sent well wide of the goal. That was fired through a crowd of players, so they are unlucky it didn't strike one and cause Abbiati problems.
43'
Bianco quickly switches the ball to the right after robbing Niang and Carpi ultimately win a corner, somewhat fortunately, as Zaccardo gives Antonelli a nudge, steals the ball and then crosses low into the area, forcing a sliced clearance from Romagnoli.
42'
Niang's footing has been an issue for the Frenchman at times to day and not for the first time he slips in a potentially decent position out on the right, allowing Bianco to steal in and steal the ball.
40'
Milan have done well to take the sting out of Carpi at every single opportunity so far, and now they are calmly stroking the ball around in midfield after halting a potentially promising move in its infancy.
38'
A brief opportunity to cause Milan problems opens up for Carpi, as Bianco finds space on the left flank behind Di Sciglio, but his eventual cross goes over everyone and then out for a goal-kick. A bit of a waste.
36'
Niang is proving a nuisance but his final pass has rarely found its mark so far. This time he pounces on a loose ball about 30 yards from the Carpi goal, shimmies past a defender and then looks for the ball out to the left for Bonaventura, only for his effort to go straight to Zaccardo.
34'
This time it is Bianco guilty of surrendering possession in the middle for the away side, giving it straight back to Montolivo. Luckily for the visitors, though, Milan are content to just bide their time and stamp a little patience on things.
32'
Another excellent breakaway from the home side. Honda rides a 50/50 challenge in the midfield and subsequently takes over. He then releases Honda who charges into the final third and attempts a low cross into the area, but Marrone cover well to clear.
30'
Carpi are straight back on the attack and on the hunt for a way back into this. Gabriel Silva lofts the ball into the area and a Lasagna effort is deflected behind for a corner, though nothing comes of the set-piece, as Milan defend well.
28'
M. Niang has scored a goal for AC Milan! Assist by C. Bacca.
Bacca gets the assist, as he surges up the flank showing immense pace and then exquisite precision with his outside-of-the-boot cross.
GOAL!!! MILAN DOUBLE THEIR LEAD! Fantastic counter by the hosts! Carlos Bacca has done briliantly there, as the Colombian races up the left flank, leaving his man for dead and then crossing with the outside of his right foot for Niang, who takes it in his stride and prods past Brkic. Wonderful goal.
27'
Zapata must do better! Honda's delivery picks out the Colombia centre-back and he meets it with a header, unchallenged at the back post. However, he nods the ball into the ground which takes the sting off it and Brkic collects with ease.
26'
Bonaventura clips a decent delivery into the area, only for it to be punched clear by Brkic just ahead of Bacca. However, Carpi remain under pressure as Letizia fouls Di Sciglio right on the line of the area on the right flank.
25'
Clumsy tackle by Bianco, as the midfielder goes flying in on Honda, who cleverly turns away and then finds himself hauled down. Bonaventura heads over to take the kick about 30 yards from goal.
23'
Better defending from Carpi's Romagnoli. A clever interchange out wide sees Honda release Niang and he bursts towards goal, with the visitors' numbers looking thin at the back. He attempts to take his man on down the outside, but he produces a perfectly timed tackle.
22'
L. Lollo gets yellow.
And there is the game's first yellow card for Lollo, as the forward cynically takes out Niang on the flank, with the Frenchman causing plenty of problems at the moment.
21'
M. Niang gets yellow.
20'
CARPI ESCAPE! The away side are all over the place at the back and Kucka manages to march into space on the edge of the area. With only Gagliolo to beat, he surges into the box and gets a shot away, only to be denied by a fine Brkic save and then Zaccardo is on hand to clear.
18'
Carpi enjoy a sustained period in possession, but the home side hold their line well at the back and ultimately the attack comes to nothing, as a Lollo effort is blocked on the edge of the area.
16'
That was just the tonic Mihajlovic was after. Milan have started the game pretty well and that Bacca goal was arguably exactly what they deserved. Carpi are yet to threaten and the hosts look in control in midfield.
14'
C. Bacca has scored a goal for AC Milan! Assist by K. Honda.
SAVE! Honda steps up to the free-kick and curls a lovely left-footed effort over the wall, but Brkic palms it away down to his left. The Milan pressure is being ramped up here.
Honda slips the ball into the area behind the defence and Bacca finds the net in confident fashion.
GOAL!!! MILAN HAVE THE LEAD! Carpi fail to react to Honda's slick pass and Bacca gets in behind the defence, rides the challenge of the goalkeeper and then puts the ball into the open goal with a cheeky 'rabona' shot.
12'
Carpi have been too careless in the middle several times already. They are yet again now and Milan breakaway quickly through the centre, as Montolivo releases Niang and the forward charges into the opposing half. He finds the run of Honda down the right. The Japanese slows the play down but then finds Montolivo, who is caught on the edge of the area. Free-kick.
10'
Another encouraging move from the home side, this time through the middle and on the break, as a Carpi pass is intercepted in the midfield. Kucka knocks it forward quickly and Bacca lays it off to Honda. The Japan international races forward and opts to look for Di Sciglio out to his right, but Gabriel Silva is able to clear up. That was the wrong pass.
8'
ALMOST THE OPENER! The corner is whipped in well by Honda, who manages to get plenty of power on it. Zapata meets it with a glancing header which is always going just wide, but Di Sciglio was so close to getting a foot on it. Carpi escape.
7'
Corner now for Milan, almost out of nothing, as Honda plays a ball forward up the right towards Niang, and Gagliolo gets a slight flick on it to divert it behind the goal. This is a good opportunity for the hosts.
5'
Confident, albeit risky, defending there from Carpi. Niang races on to a headed flick-on by Bacca and the Frenchman takes it in his stride, before knocking it over the head of Zaccardo. He attempts to collect the ball again, but Letizia covers well and coolly turns on the ball just outside his area, beating the Milan striker in the process.
3'
There's the first attack of the match and it is a positive moment for the hosts up the right. Bacca's pass takes a hefty ricochet and lands in the patch of Bonaventura, who races up the flank and delivers a low cross, though it is ultimately a little too close to Brkic in the visitors' goal.
1'
Off we go in San Siro! Milan get us underway.
Hello and welcome to the LIVE coverage of the Coppa Italia quarter-final clash between AC Milan and Carpi. I will be describing the action for you today, as these two sides go head-to-head for a place in the final four, with the home side in desperate need of a positive result in order to ease the pressure on coach Sinisa Mihajlovic.
TEAM NEWS:
Milan substitutes: Donnarumma, Livieri, Abate, Alex, Calabria, Simic, Bertolacci, De Jong, Josè Mauri, Balotelli, Poli, Boateng
Milan starting XI (4-4-2): Abbiati; De Sciglio, Zapata, Romagnoli, Antonelli; Honda, Kucka, Montolivo, Bonaventura; Niang, Bacca.
Carpi starting XI (4-4-1-1): Brkic; Zaccardo, Romagnoli, Gagliolo, Letizia; Pasciuti, Marrone, Bianco, Gabriel Silva; Lollo; Lasagna
Much of the focus in the build-up to today's clash has revolved around the uncertain future of Milan boss Mihajlovic. The Serbian is under intense pressure at the moment, with Milan only as high as eighth in the Serie A table, some 10 points behind bitter rivals Inter. According to some reports Mihajlovic has been given an ultimatum by the club; win or get sacked. If such suggestions are true, it doesn't come as a huge surprise to see the coach name an attacking line-up today.
Mihajlovic has opted to start both Carlos Bacca and Mbaye Niang in attack, while his midfield should provide plenty of support going forward, with Montolivo, Bonaventura and Honda all likely to spend plenty of time in the opposition half. Mario Balotelli gets a place on the bench alongside new signing Kevin-Prince Boateng, with the Italy international set to return from three months out. There is no place in the squad for Luiz Adriano, whose short stay at the club appears to be all but over, with a €14m move to China mooted.
Milan's start to 2016 has done little to alleviate the heat on Mihajlovic, with a home defeat to Bologna followed by a 1-1 draw at Roma. Further denting Mihajlovic's cause is the rumour that Italian World Cup-winning coach Marcello Lippi is being lined up as his replacement, should he fail to oversee a win today. If ever there was the opportunity for a cup upset, this is surely it.
Carpi themselves will be looking to crowd out the midfield in their quest to reach the semis. Lasagna will lead the line and receive support from Lollo, but the latter will also be expected to do plenty of legwork in midfield. Gabriel Silva will look to provide a threat out on the left and will need to be watched carefully by Di Sciglio, with the pair looking set for an interesting duel. Ex-Milan defender Zaccardo starts at right-back for the visitors.
The players are now out on the pitch as kick-off approaches.
Well, as it stands, Lippi may well have to wait a little longer for the Milan job. Mihajlovic's supposed final game in charge of the club is going rather well so far, with Bacca at the heart of both of their goals, cheekily scoring the first and then brilliantly setting up the second. There's plenty more to play for here and Carpi have shown a little promise, but the hosts are well in charge and could get even more if the visitors continue to defender as they did before the break.
Milan hold on to the win, securing a place in the Coppa semi-finals. They made it difficult for themselves at times, but they deserved the triumph which was inspired by Bacca, who scored and set up the winner. Carpi gave a good account of themselves but ultimately did not have enough quality in midfield to make a telling go of it. Mihajlovic continues to hang on as a result and Milan progress.
