A poor cross from Alonso is the final action of the afternoon as the referee blows the full-time whistle to confirm Hull's victory. Headed goals from the away side's new strike partnership sealed all three points as Hull moved closer to the top half of the Premier League.
90' +1
We're a minute into three added minutes and Hull are keeping the ball deep inside Sunderland's half. Jack Colback gives away a free-kick and apologises to the fans near him.
89'
R. Brady enters the game and replaces S. Long.
Shane Long led the line well today, offering support out wide as well as through the middle. He fully deserved his goal and set up a brilliant win with his first half header. The Sunderland fans are streaming out of the stadium now.
Hull are toying with Sunderland now with some impressive passing play. One-twos and quick movement is too much for the home side to handle as Hull earn a free-kick to waste some time. Long is replaced by Robbie Brady as we head towards injury time.
85'
Connor Wickham receives the ball 30 yards from goal and turns with his first touch. Curtis Davies was too slow and trips him up, giving the home side a free-kick. Gardner stands over it but wastes the opportunity with a terrible shot into the wall. The stands are looking extremely empty right now.
83'
This is so easy for Hull right now. Sunderland are offering little in attack and look beaten already. Aluko sends another shot in but this one flies well wide.
81'
Livermore wins the ball back for Hull and starts a quick counter attack by sending the ball up to Shane Long, who nods it down to Aluko. The substitute strides forward and sends a bouncing shot towards Mannone who tips it wide.
80'
England manager Roy Hodgson is in the stands today, presumably to watch Adam Johnson who's had the odd glimpse of quality but has struggled overall. Not the best time to have an off day.
78'
S. Aluko enters the game and replaces N. Jelavić.
Hull's second goal-scorer, Nikica Jelavic has made way for Sone Aluko to make his first league appearance since October.
76'
C. Wickham enters the game and replaces L. Bridcutt.
73'
Hull are effortlessly stroking the ball around the field. Elmohamady even played a long ball across the pitch to perfection. Their passing phases are being spoiled by a poor final pass, though.
Minute
Description
71'
Jelavic is causing trouble in the Sunderland penalty area. Long swings a low ball in that the Croatian latches onto. He takes two stabs at the ball but it's cleared.
70'
C. Gardner enters the game and replaces Ki Sung-Yueng.
68'
Gardner is ready come on for Sunderland as Poyet throws another roll of the dice. Hull are strolling here so the home side need Gardner's energy and quality to change things around.
65'
This is the perfect away performance by Hull so far. They've dominated throughout and have had 54% possession. Sunderland really struggling this afternoon.
63'
Jelavic was signed for a lot of money by Steve Bruce who clearly holds a lot of faith in the Croatian striker after a poor year in front of goal. Is he starting to repay the faith and transfer fee?
62'
N. Jelavić has scored a goal for Hull City!
JELAVIC SCORES HIS FIRST HULL GOAL! Maynor Figueroa strides forward, hits a shot that's deflected up into the air and right to Jelavic who nods a looping header into Sunderland's goal. This looks over now. Fantastic header.
61'
N. Jelavić gets yellow.
59'
Bridcutt is shielding Sunderland's defence well. He's been stopping attacks left, right and centre. Just now, he slid to block a through ball to Long who would have been clean through on goal.
58'
The game is swaying back and forth at the minute. One bad attack leads to another poor one. Both defences doing well here.
54'
Wow. Altidore just pushed two players away, found some space and sent a wonderful pass across the pitch to Bardsley. It sets up an attack that leads to Harper diving low to his right to save from Bridcutt.
52'
Elmohamady is having a great game down Hull's right wing. He's given plenty of support in attack with marauding runs, giving Alonso plenty of trouble.
48'
An early free kick in this second half comes to nothing as Hull's control is exerted over Sunderland once again. Another poor start for the home side. Hull attack again down the right and earn another corner.
46'
R. Koren enters the game and replaces L. Rosenior.
The player are back out for the second half to loud cheers and a rousing reception from the home fans. Robert Koren has replaced Liam Rosenior just as the second half begins.
45' +2
L. Bridcutt gets yellow.
45' +1
One last attack for Sunderland in the half as Mannone launches a bal forward. Hull break, though, with Jelavic playing the ball to Livermore who is brought down. They take a quick free-kick that comes to nothing in the end. And with that, we go in for half time.
44'
We're approaching half time here and Johnson has a stunning shot that's saved well by Harper. A looping ball fell to him 25 yards out allowing him to wind up a fantastic volley. That was very nearly 1-1. Two minutes added on at the end of the half.
41'
J. Livermore gets yellow.
40'
Bardsley is putting a real shift in down the right-hand side to try and make amends for his poor pass that led to Brown's dismissal.
37'
Sunderland have increase the pressure here and now look a part of this game. A goal before half time will be just what the doctor orderd here.
34'
Sunderland have won five of the last six meetings between the two clubs. That winning record looks like it may end today, though, as Hull are in complete control.
33'
And now at the other end, Johnson threatens to score for the home side. A goal-bound shot is cleared by Rosenior and Sunderland look to increase the pressure here.
32'
Long's at it again! A fantastic shot smashes against the woodwork. That was so close to 2-0. The Irishman swerved onto his left-foot and rattled the post with a wonderful strike.
30'
With Sunderland needing a goal, they've got all 10 men behind the ball inside their own half. It doesn't look like they'll be scoring anytime soon. Hull are extremely comfortable here.
27'
Sunderland's passing in the final third has been pretty much non-existent so far. This is really poor from the home side so far.
25'
We've lost some of the tempo in the match now. Sunderland are trying to calm things down as Hull attempt to extend their lead. Poyet will be wanting much more from his players here.
22'
Sunderland can't get out of their own half here and we're only 22 minutes in. This could be a long old day for the Black Cats.
19'
Hull City are on track for their first away win in the league since September if they keep this up. Impressive so far and have another corner.
18'
Things have gone from bad to worse for Gus Poyet here. An early red card for Brown has been compounded with Long's second goal in the league for Hull.
16'
S. Long has scored a goal for Hull City! Assist by J. Livermore.
GOAL FOR LONG! Jake Livermore tests Mannone with a fierce strike from inside the penalty area. The corner for Hull is taken by Huddlestone and Shane Long heads in from close range after a lovely chipped ball back in towards goal.
13'
A few long balls being exchanged between the two sides here but Sunderland seem to be controlling the play a little better despite being down to 10 men.
12'
S. Vergini enters the game and replaces F. Borini.
Fabio Borini is the fall guy as Poyet makes his first substitution to make up for Brown's dismissal. Santiago Vergini comes on in his place. The Italian doesn't look pleased to be coming off.
11'
L. Rosenior gets yellow.
10'
Poyet is preparing an early substitution here after Wes Brown's sending off in the fourth minute. The home crowd have gone a bit quiet now.
7'
Sunderland shaken after that terrible start. They were hoping to continue their good form, but that could be a difficult job now.
4'
W. Brown goes off after a red card!
RED CARD! Shane Long races through on Sunderland's goal from a terrible Phil Bardsley back pass. Wes Brown pulls him down right on the edge of the penalty area. That's his third red card this season. Just three minutes gone here!
Tom Huddlestone steps up to take the free-kick but Vito Mannone keeps tight hold of his low effort.
3'
Liam Briducutt is making his full home debut for Sunderland today. He'll be hoping to restrict any threat on his back four. He did it well under Poyet at Brighton so he'll be hoping to continue that here.
2'
Sunderland are stroking the ball around the back four at the start here. Hull full of energy, though, as the midfield and two forwards press with ferocity.
1'
And we're off! Hull City get us started, kicking from right to left and wearing their blue and red away strip.
Hello and welcome to the Stadium of Light as Sunderland host Hull City. The Black Cats have been in superb form lately and recorded another stunning derby win over Newcastle United last week. Steve Bruce's side are in contrasting form as they've not won a game in the Premier League since their 6-0 win over Fulham at the end of December. They'll be hoping to turn that around today.
The teams are in! Gus Poyet has kept his two most in-form players in his team. Sunderland (4-4-2): Mannone; Bardsley, Brown, O'Shea, Alonso; Johnson, Ki, Bridcutt, Colback; Borini, Altidore.
Bruce has gone with an adventurous line-up of three at the back and his two new goal-scorers up-front. Hull City (3-5-2): Harper; Rosenior, Davies, McShane; Elmohamady, Figueroa, Livermore, Huddlestone, Meyler; Jelavic, Long.
It could be an incredibly difficult afternoon for Bruce and his side who have failed to win an away game in the Premier League since beating Newcastle 3-2 in September. They've lost seven of their last 9 away games.
Bruce could benefit from his wing-backs, Elmohamady and Figueroa dropping deep to form a five-man defence. It could be needed with the form Adam Johnson is in.
Sunderland, though, have won just one of their last six games at home in the Premier League. They've been on the end of some brilliant results in the past month so their home form could be improved massively today.
Well that was definitely not what the Sunderland players or fans were expecting today. With Hull on such a bad away run, the home side were looking forward to another win but Brown's early red card made their task even more difficult. Long pounced to head them into a lead at half time.
That goal from Shane Long was Hull's first away from home in almost six hours. Well worth the wait, I'm sure.
If it stays like this, Hull will move up to 11th on 27 points, just one short of the top half. Meanwhile, Sunderland won't want to lose, as they'll be just one point ahead of the bottom three. Complete contrast in terms of league position.
As the second half moves closer, Poyet will be demanding much more from his players to pull a goal back. An early goal for Hull, which is what Bruce will surely be asking, will seal the three points here.
It's full-time at the Stadium of Light and Sunderland have been beaten again. The afternoon started terribly with a red card to Wes Brown after just four minutes. Long and Jelavic scored the goals in either half to inflict another defeat on the Black Cats as they are now hovering just above the relegation zone.
Sunderland had just three shots on target, compared to Hull's 9. The home side also only managed 44% possession. Steve Bruce will be extremely pleased with how that went but his opponent, Gus Poyet, will be furious. An awful afternoon for Sunderland.
That win moves Hull up to 10th in the table, just ahead of Aston Villa on goal difference while Sunderland sit precariously just above the drop zone on 23 points. The Black Cats has Manchester City, Southampton and Arsenal in their next three matches so they could be in trouble now.
Hull now head into the match with Southampton in full flow and good form. They were solid at the back, controlling in the middle and clinical in front of goal today. Very impressive.
Thanks for staying with us here to see Hull totally outclass a poor Sunderland side. They'll be looking for a much better set of results before they face Manchester City in the Capital One Cup final.
