L. Ocampos enters the game and replaces Y. Carrasco.
90' +2
Late sub for Monaco as the heroic Ferreira-Carrasco departs. He really turned it on in the second half and was vital in the home side's victory. On comes Ocampos for the final stretch.
90'
Bernardo Silva enters the game and replaces N. Dirar.
Well, Monaco double their goals tally for the entire group stage in one half of football. That will wrap it up for them, as they are now assured of a place in the knockout stages baring an impossible Zenit comeback.
89'
Fabinho has scored a goal for Monaco! Assist by João Moutinho.
THAT WILL DO IT! Fabinho makes a really determined run forward, and after swapping passes with Moutinho, sneaks in a gap between two men and fires home with aplomb!
87'
Time may be just running out for Zenit now and they come close to being carved apart again. Raggi and Martial exchange passes near the edge of the box, with the former just overplaying the final touch.
85'
Garcia is surely living on borrowed time now, as Ferreira-Carrasco slips by him once again only to be denied by another ugly foul. Bizarrely, the referee has kept his card in his pocket.
83'
Was that a penalty for Ferreira-Carrasco? The winger, who has already provided the all-important assist, has the beating of Garcia in the box but is brought down by the former Manchester City man. However, the referee waves play on when there was perhaps a legit case for a spot kick!
81'
J. Toulalan gets yellow.
80'
Monaco are looking good heading into the final 10 minutes. The hosts have seen a few gaps on the counter now with all hands to the pump in the final third for Zenit. Their approach, so tedious during the first half, seems to have paid off spectacularly.
79'
A. Ryazantsev enters the game and replaces I. Smolnikov.
Minute
Description
77'
Now Lombaerts has to react to stop Dirar from nipping in behind him. Zenit’s desperation to get back in this game, and in the Champions League, has seen more space open up at both ends, with the Russians’ now lopsided attack.
75'
Abdennour has scored the goal that looks like winning this game and the Monaco man comes up with the goods at the other end, sliding in at the last minute to deny Danny a great shooting chance against Subasic. Wonderful stuff!
73'
Lodygin is caught off his line as Monaco win possession in the Zenit half. The keeper is forced to scramble back in a haste, and is lucky that the eventual effort to catch him out goes just wide!
71'
NOT TOO FAR OFF! Hulk goes for goal from yet another long-range set piece. From about 30 yards out, he aims for the top corner but misses the target by inches! That would have been special!
69'
O. Shatov enters the game and replaces V. Fayzulin.
Fayzulin is hauled off for Shatov as Villas-Boas suddenly faces a desperate situation. His side were the better outfit for the majority of this game, but it's still been a poor display all around.
67'
RULED OUT! Ferreira-Carrasco's deliveries are all of a sudden causing problems, and Raggi has the ball in the back of the net. However, the officials are correct in chalking off the goal for an offside!
65'
Not a surprise to see that goal come from a dead ball, given that Monaco have created absolutely nothing from open play. Now Zenit are in real trouble - they need two goals now!
63'
A. Abdennour has scored a goal for Monaco! Assist by Y. Carrasco.
MONACO HAVE A PRICELESS OPENER! And so typical that it came from a set piece. Ferreira-Carrasco launches a really enticing ball into the area, and it's attacked by Abdennour, who heads home!
62'
V. Fayzulin gets yellow.
Moutinho has drawn a few crucial fouls today, and he's taken out by Fayzulin again. The Zenit midfielder gets booked, the second yellow card to come off a foul on the Portuguese midfielder.
60'
So one hour gone and half an hour left to play. Monaco are still on pace to qualify for the knockout stages with only two total goals scored in the group stages. Can Zenit put a stop to that?
58'
Early action for the substitute Martial, who picks out Dirar on the wing. He then tries to angle a cross into the area, but there's no one in red and white in position to attack that ball.
56'
A. Martial enters the game and replaces D. Berbatov.
Berbatov has been a ghost in this game, and it's no surprise to see him depart the field of play. Martial, who was dropped from the XI for this match, will replace him, providing a more mobile alternative.
54'
MONACO'S TURN! Finally a good chance for the home side. Toulalan hoists a typically great deep pass to find the run of Ferreira-Carrasco, and the winger sees his effort from an angle deflected narrowly off target!
52'
Close call there for a scrambling Monaco defence. A Hulk free kick causes all sorts of problems, before it's missed by a gaggle of Zenit players at the post, going out for a goal kick.
50'
The half-time team talks don't seem to have altered much as far as the tempo of this game goes. Both sides are still playing possum, but Zenit must be taking quiet encouragement from the fact that they are only a goal away.
48'
Abdennour intercepts to stop a promising Zenit attack, moments before Ferreira-Carrasco hashes a solid delivery from Dirar. Decent back-and-forth tempo to start the second half.
46'
We're back!
45'
Good header from Garay to take a Moutinho corner off the head of Berbatov. Zenit's own defensive job cannot be understated, they've been quick to get back after every failed attack.
43'
A very long free kick is whipped into the area by Hulk. but it bounces all the way to Subasic. Zenit have improved as this half has gone on and should their upwards trajectory continue into the second half, they may well get the goal that they need.
41'
Danny pings a corner to the far post and Lombaerts gets his head onto the ball, but Subasic makes a comfortable save. Looks to be a safe pair of hands in this game, the Monaco keeper.
39'
Zenit try to counter with a long and accurate diagonal out of their own half out to Rondon, but he fails to control. Had the Venezuelan leashed that pass, then he would have had only one man between him and Subasic.
37'
Toulalan, usually so content with patrolling in front of the back four, ventures forward with a jinking run that takes him past a pair of players. He lets fly from range, but misses his mark badly.
35'
Zenit have been launching a few early balls in from the flanks, but so far it's not going anywhere. You can see the visitors trying to make something happen but credit to the Monaco defence - they're denying everything.
33'
Monaco have been so drab whenever they get the ball into the final third. All the passing is to feet, with no movement or no trickery to even make the defence think. They're boring their fans to tears!
31'
The balance in this match slowly continues to tip in Monaco's favour. More and more of their possession sequences are finding small gaps. Could the visitors be on the verge of something special?
29'
That's a bit better. From the resulting free kick, Hulk, shockingly, decides to smash it towards goal. However, Subasic is on hand to punch the ball clear. The keeper has made no mistakes with the routine tasks so far.
27'
Another booking now and it's a Zenit man this time who gets his name taken. Raggi left his leg trailing in an attempt to win the ball against Smolnikov, and it's no surprise to see the card come out.
26'
A. Raggi gets yellow.
25'
Subasic rises highest to pluck a free kick out of the air before it enters the mosh pot in the box. The home side continue to play very defensively - will it come back to haunt them?
23'
A few fouls break up play even further in the middle of the park. Garcia, the latest to commit an infraction, is perhaps a little lucky that the referee did not have a good view of his challenge against Dirar.
21'
As this game wears on, it's clear that Zenit have the upper hand. That's not to say that they've created chances - far from it. But the Russian side simply are able to keep a hold of the ball in the opposition half for longer.
19'
Zenit, and Villas-Boas sides in general, traditionally play with a high defensive line. It's working a treat against Monaco, as Berbatov is not being allowed time on the ball, and the wingers have been unable to get in behind.
17'
Continues to be scraps, crumbs and spare change here. Berbatov is flagged for an offside after attempting to bring down a high ball, moments before Monaco are forced to clear their own lines from a bobbling ball in the box.
15'
Defences continue to dominate as we finish the first quarter-hour of this game. Zenit have generally been the side to show more purpose, and you would expect them to, given that they need all three points tonight.
13'
Zenit manage to get a cross in from the flanks via Danny, but Wallace is in position to block Rondon's attempted finish. That's about as good as it's gotten in a drab opening spell so far.
11'
Silly booking for Lombaerts to pick up this early in the game, as he yanked at Moutinho's shirt in a position where the Portuguese midfielder was going absolutely nowhere. Tightrope for him to walk now.
10'
N. Lombaerts gets yellow.
9'
Ferreira-Carrasco tries to do it all on hos own down the flank, but there's no one in support. He makes it almost to the byline before he's robbed of the ball. He needed help from his teammates there.
7'
You would be forgiven for thinking that Leonardo Jardim set his team out to go for that lowest goals scored record from the very first whistle! Some uninspiring football on show here in the principality.
5'
Slow-paced start to this one, with both teams appearing to lack the drive to create ideas in the final third. Hulk tries to get himself involved, but ends up over-running it and is robbed of possession.
3'
Some over-hit passes dominate the opening exchanges as both sides seek to lump early balls forwards to catch the defences unawares. Nothing doing so far though.
1'
We're off!
Hello and welcome to this do-or-die Champions League clash between Monaco and Zenit. A draw for the French hosts will see them through, while a win is needed for the Russian visitors to progress to the Round of 16. I'm Keeghann Sinanan, your guide for all the action.
Zenit have only ever won once on French soil, but you won't expect that to faze Andre Villas-Boas and his men tonight. Coming off a clutch 1-0 win over Benfica on the previous matchday, the Russian side will be expected to attack right from the off to get the three points that they need. Europa League simply won't do for this expensively assembled side!
Monaco stunned Group C leaders Bayer Leverkusen with a 1-0 victory at the BayArena last time out in Europe. That keeps them right in the hunt for a qualification place. In fact, they could top the group if the concurrent Levekusen-Benfica result goes their way, given that they sit only one point behind the Germans and have the head-to-head tiebreaker. Meanwhile, a Zenit win coupled with a Leverkusen loss will see AVB's boys finish first.
Monaco are also on point for an unlikely Champions League record. A 0-0 draw tonight will be enough for them to qualify with only two goals scored in the group stages. That will be the lowest ever total for any side who has made the Round of 16 in Champions League history. They could even top the group on that pair of goals should Leverkusen lose to Benfica.
Zenit Subs: Malafeev, Anyukov, Luis Neto, Ryazantsev, Shatov, Tymoshchuk, Arshavin.
Anthony Martial is dropped for Nabil Dirar, who starts on the right side of the hosts' front three. Dimitar Berbatov will lead the line and with Geoffrey Kondogbia out until the new year, Tiemoune Bakayoko will line up in midfield alongside regulars Joao Moutinho and Jeremy Toulalan.
Javi Garcia returns to the Zenit XI, replacing Anatoliy Tymoshchuk in midfield. Domenico Criscito also comes in at full back for the experienced Alexander Anyukov in the secondchange made by Villas-Boas following his side's 4-0 win over Krasnodar during the weekend.
The end of a forgettable first half. Goalless at the break here at the Stade Louis II. I won't pretend that's it's been a treat for us neutrals, but it's still as tight and tense as anything for both Monaco and Zenit. As it stands, the French side will progress but one goal - and it looks like one goal will be enough to win this game - will change so much. Stay tuned for the restart in just a bit.
That's all from Stade Louis II! Monaco have won the match and what's more, with Leverkusen's goalless draw against Benfica, they will tip the group too! A priceless result for Jardim's men now as they could avoid one of the big guns in the draw for the next round. Zenit will have to be content with Europa League football now.
That's all from me, I've been Keeghann Sinanan and it's been a pleasure!
