And we're off! Hoffenheim get us underway, attacking from right to left.
Good evening and welcome to our live text commentary of today’s Bundesliga clash between Hoffenheim and Borussia Dortmund. My name is Ben Cullimore and I will be keeping you up to date with all of the action from the Rhein-Neckar Arena.
Dortmund have enjoyed a truly spectacular start to the new Bundesliga season, and as a result they are yet to drop a single point under the guidance of new manager Thomas Tuchel. The former Mainz boss has reinvigorated a side that were stuttering under Jurgen Klopp, and they have now won their last 11 consecutive games in a row thanks to Sunday’s comfortable 3-0 victory at home to Bayer Leverkusen. That could, and should, be extended to 12 this evening, as, in stark contrast to Die Borussen, their opponents have suffered a disappointing start to the campaign.
After finishing in an impressive eighth place last season - their highest finish since 2009 - Hoffenheim have struggled in their opening games this time round, and they head into what will surely be a very tough clash without a win from any of their first five league encounters and with just one point under their belts, which came at home to newly-promoted Darmstadt in a lacklustre draw three weeks ago. As a result, they start the evening just outside of the relegation zone in 15th place and absolutely desperate for a victory to finally kick-start their campaign.
There’s just over 15 minutes left to go until until kick-off, so let’s have a look at how the two teams will be lining up this evening…
Markus Gisdol has decided to make just two changes to the Hoffenheim side that started the 3-1 defeat against Mainz on the weekend, with defenders Fabian Schar and Jin-Su Kim making way for Ermin Bicakcic and Jeremy Toljan, respectively.
Meanwhile, Dortmund boss Thomas Tuchel has also made two alterations to the side that beat Leverkusen on Sunday, with Ilkay Gundogan and Henrikh Mkhitaryan making way for Gonzalo Castro and Marco Reus, the latter of whom returns to the starting line-up after missing his side’s last three games with a toe injury.
The two sides are making their way out onto the pitch, with just a few minutes to go until kick-off.
HALF-TIME: HOFFENHEIM 1-0 BORUSSIA DORTMUND
After suffering a slow start, Hoffenheim fully deserve to head into the half-time break with a one-goal lead after putting in an excellent performance against a Dortmund side that look bereft of ideas whenever they push forward. The hosts have hit the visitors hard on the break and the second-place side have found it difficult to deal with their pace and energy, which on several occasions left them in sixes and sevens at the back.
The two teams are making their way back out onto the pitch ahead of the start of the second half.
FULL-TIME: HOFFENHEIM 1-1 BORUSSIA DORTMUND
For the first time under Thomas Tuchel, Dortmund have failed to win a competitive game, and they can have few complaints after a rather flat performance. They looked far better in the second half, particularly after the introduction of Gundogan and Mkhitaryan, but still found it difficult to impress against the Hoffenheim defence, that looked compact and well-organised from start to finish.
Hoffenheim's well-earned draw will fill them full of confidence ahead of Saturday's trip away to Augsburg, whilst Dortmund, who now sit two points behind Bayern Munich, play host to newly-promoted Darmstadt in their next Bundesliga game.
My name is Ben Cullimore and it's been an absolute pleasure describing all of the action to you today. Until next time, goodbye!
