SAVE! Toivonen's free-kick is bound for the top-right corner, but Sommer beats it away superbly! It won't matter though, as that was the last kick of the game! The referee blows his whistle for full-time!
90' +4
M. Lang goes off after a red card!
Lang is sent off as he was the last man when he made the foul. He trudges off, head in his hands.
90' +3
PENALTY! Sweden break quickly as Switzerland have everyone forward, and Olsson is slipped through into the box and is pushed over by Lang in the box! The referee points to the spot, but is called over by VAR to review the decision.
90' +1
I. Kiese Thelin enters the game and replaces M. Berg.
SAVE! The ball is worked down the line to Rodriguez on the left, who whips in a cross with great pace onto the head of Seferovic at the near post, but his header is saved superbly by Olsen! That could be the save that knocks Switzerland out of the competition!
90'
Berg is replaced by Thelin up front for the last few minutes here.
88'
Sweden use up a few precious seconds with a short corner, but they can't force another and give away a goal-kick. Sommer urges his team forward as he prepares to knock it long.
86'
BLOCK! The ball falls for Drmic, but his firm, low strike hits a wall of yellow shirts. Shaqiri then tries a cross from the inside-right channel, but again gets a little too much on the pass.
85'
Rodriguez does excellently to wriggle out of a tight spot and dig out a cross towards the back post that has to be turned behind for a corner! Switzerland ramping up the pressure here.
84'
Embolo is having a real impact on this game since coming off the bench, running at players and causing problems, but he hasn't found a way to unlock the door and haul his side back on level terms yet.
Minute
Description
82'
E. Krafth enters the game and replaces M. Lustig.
M. Olsson enters the game and replaces E. Forsberg.
Forsberg goes off for Swansea left-back Olsson, who will play with Augustinsson on the left flank. Andersson looking to shut up shop here.
Lustig looks as though he's struggling with cramp, and is replaced by Krafth.
81'
Shaqiri whips a very dangerous cross in from the right, but it's just an inch too high and Olsen clings on!
80'
OFF THE LINE! Embolo meets the corner and glances it towards the bottom-left corner, but Granqvist clears it off the line! Olsen may have had it covered behind him, but the captain was taking no chances there!
79'
Switzerland have piled men forward and pinned Sweden back. The ball comes into the box and is just behind several red shirts, before Lang wins a corner at the back post. .
77'
Embolo has his first real involvement as he surges down the left and wins a corner. Good, direct running from the substitute there.
75'
NO PENALTY! Claesson cuts back inside the box and goes over in a heap, but the referee waves away his appeals! On closer inspection, the Sweden player has gone down under no contact whatsoever, and is very lucky to escape a booking for simulation.
73'
B. Embolo enters the game and replaces S. Zuber.
H. Seferović enters the game and replaces B. Džemaili.
Petkovic makes a double-change to try and haul his team back into the game. Embolo is the first to come on, replacing Zuber on the left. The Schalke forward offers a little more pace than his counterpart.
Dzemaili, who wasted Switzerland's best chance of the first half, also comes off to be replaced by striker Seferovic, who goes up alongside Drmic in a 4-4-2.
71'
CHANCE! A cross is only half-cleared, and Shaqiri smashes a left-footed effort off a defender and wide of the near post! Switzerland nearly grabbed a deflected goal of their own there!
68'
G. Xhaka gets yellow.
Xhaka shows his frustration and picks up a yellow card as Switzerland swarm forward. It's all or nothing now.
66'
E. Forsberg has scored a goal for Sweden! Assist by O. Toivonen.
Toivonen picked up the ball and squared calmly to Forsberg, whose movement was good to find space, and his feint worked him a yard to shoot, but Akanji's stray boot has to take much of the credit for the ball finding the back of the net.
GOAL! FORSBERG BREAKS THE DEADLOCK! It's 1-0 to Sweden as Forsberg lashes an effort into the top corner via a massive deflection off the foot of Akanji! Lindelof's driving run from deep sparked a dangerous attack as the ball was worked out to Toivonen on the left, who squared for Forsberg to lash at goal, but it was low and straight at the keeper until the deflection wrong-footed Sommer! Game on!
64'
The cross is fired straight into the two-man wall, before Forsberg runs it out of play as he tries to work a yard to cross, instead slipping and playing it against his own foot. Really poor.
63'
Behrami then bundles Forsberg over on the very edge of the box on the left, and the RB Leipzig man stands over it. Very dangerous position here.
61'
V. Behrami gets yellow.
Behrami picks up a stupid yellow card for dissent, which sees him ruled out of the quarter-final should his side get there. A really poor way to pick a suspension, that.
60'
Xhaka miscues his attempt at a first-time shot from the edge of the box, sending it skewing to his left. What a waste of a great position.
58'
The scrappiest period of the game so far continues as both teams sit off each other a little. Both back lines have time on the ball, but there's no clear passing route to goal.
56'
Neither side able to carve out a clear opening in the last few minutes, as the game gets bogged down in the middle third of the pitch.
54'
Shaqiri's attempted Cruyff turn doesn't come off as Forsberg pinches the ball from him and surges down the line. He's then fouled by the Swiss winger, but the referee gives nothing and waves play on!
52'
Great play from Switzerland, who works the ball down the left for Rodriguez to cross, and a succession of corners and crosses follow as they pepper the Sweden box, but they can't quite find a way through.
50'
CHANCE! The ball drops invitingly for Shaqiri inside the box, but a messy combination of defenders and goalkeeper somehow keep him from taking the shot and scramble the ball clear!
49'
MISS! Forsberg shows great feet to avoid two Swiss players and the referee before driving down the left and working a chance for Toivonen, who snatches at his chance and blazes the ball over the bar!
46'
And we're back underway, as Switzerland get the second half going!
45' +1
HALF-TIME: SWEDEN 0-0 SWITZERLAND
Shaqiri drifts into the middle and works it wide for Rodriguez, whose cross is punched clear by Olsen. There goes the half-time whistle!
45'
Just one minute to be added on at the end of the first half here.
43'
Shaqiri pops up on the left and drives to the byline before fizzing a low ball across the face of goal, but nobody in red can get a touch on it. It's end-to-end at the moment!
42'
MISS! INCREDIBLE! Sweden have their best chance of the game so far and squander it as well! A Lustig cross falls perfectly to Ekdal at the back post, but somehow he spoons it over the bar on the volley from just a few yards out! It looked easier to score!
40'
MISS! Forsberg lines up a free-kick from a fair distance out, and it takes a wicked deflection off Dzemaili in the wall that sends it spinning just past the far post! Sommer was scrambling there.
38'
MISS! WHAT A MISS! Best chance of the game so far! A second Switzerland corner is worked short, and some fantastic one-touch passing carves open the Swedish defence down the left before Zuber cuts it back to Dzemaili, who blasts over from inside the box!! He had to hit the target there.
36'
Sweden have everybody back to defend a corner, which is whipped in by Rodriguez. It's a little too deep, but the headed clearance is weak and falls for Shaqiri, who smashes a shot into a yellow shirt from just outside the corner of the area.
34'
MISS! Xhaka, who likes a long-range strike, tries to pick out the top corner from some distance, but it's always rising and flies over the top of the crossbar.
32'
Rodriguez - famed for his quality delivery - produces an appalling free-kick that trickles low and straight to the keeper. What a waste of a threatening position.
31'
M. Lustig gets yellow.
Lustig picks up a silly yellow card for hauling his man down, and he will now miss the quarter-final if Sweden qualify.
28'
SAVE! Wonderful save by Sommer, who has had nothing to do so far, as Toivonen strikes a wicked half-volley towards the bottom-left corner, only for Sommer to deny him with an exceptional diving save! The flag then goes up for offside.
26'
Neither side have quite settled into this game as of yet, with chances at both ends so far. This game is still waiting for someone to take it by the scruff of the neck.
24'
MISS! After good work from Berg for Sweden, the attack breaks down and Switzerland fly down the other end and work the ball wide, before Zuber heads Shaqiri's cross over the top of the bar! That was a very quick counter, but they just couldn't find the end product to match!
22'
Shaqiri's burst of pace takes him away from one defender but straight into another, and it's played to Forsberg to lead the break, but Behrami hauls him down in midfield.
20'
Switzerland look most dangerous down the right, with Shaqiri and Lang combining well, although the latter just can't find the former with his pass on this occasion. The Stoke City winger is being closely watched so far.
18'
Switzerland get forward in possession and drive Sweden back, but there's no space between the lines and they just can't pick their way through a wall of yellow shirts.
16'
Switzerland's attempts to play out from the back have not been overly successful so far, with Sweden pressing high up the field and denying them time and space, and often the ball has to be played back for Sommer to punt long.
14'
Shaqiri gets forward down the right and whips a superb, dipping cross into the box for Drmic, but it's just over the striker's head!
13'
Switzerland find themselves under a bit of pressure as Djourou is forced to head unconvincingly away and Shaqiri then miscues the follow-up, but they eventually get it clear.
11'
Dzemaili thinks he's in as he races towards a ball over the top and into the box, but it skips off the turf with a little too much pace and Olsen clings on gratefully.
9'
BLOCK! Sommer's goal-kick is needlessly risky and he gifts possession to Sweden in a dangerous position, but Berg's effort is blocked superbly by Akanji to spare his goalkeeper's blushes!
8'
MISS! What a miss! Berg beats the offside trap and charges in behind, but his shot is sliced miles wide when one-on-one with the goalkeeper! How on earth did he miss the target?
7'
SAVE! Zuber cuts inside from the left and curls a shot at goal, but it's straight into the midriff of Olsen.
6'
Shaqiri has been given a free role off the right for Switzerland, and he pops up in the centre to receive the ball and switches it out to Lang, who has shown good adventure early on, but the full-back's whipped delivery is deflected away from the danger zone.
4'
Xhaka then switches the play wide to Lang on the right, who had made a driving run forward into space. The right-back drops the ball back to Shaqiri, who tries to swing a cross in, but it's headed clear.
2'
Augustinsson then lofts a very dangerous ball in from a free-kick on the right, but Xhaka recovers well to hook the ball clear! That delivery had the Swiss turned around, but it was cleared well by the Arsenal midfielder.
1'
And we're off! Sweden get the game underway!
MISS! An early slip by a Swedish defender gifts the ball to Switzerland high up the field, and it's switched to Shaqiri who blasts an ambitious effort from distance wide of the near post. He will surely by a key figure today.
Hello and welcome to this live text commentary of the World Cup last-16 match between Sweden and Switzerland in Russia.
The line-ups have been announced, and we'll start with Sweden.
Sweden XI (4-4-2): Robin Olsen; Ludwig Augustinsson, Andreas Granqvist, Victor Lindelof, Mikael Lustig; Emil Forsberg, Albin Ekdal, Gustav Svensson, Viktor Claesson; Ola Toivonen, Marcus Berg
Sweden substitutes: Marcus Rohden, Martin Olsson, Emil Krafth, John Guidetti, Pontus Jansson, Filip Helander, Karl-Johan Johnsson, Jimmy Durmaz, Isaac Thelin, Oscar Hiljemark, Kristoffer Nordfeldt
Switzerland XI (4-2-3-1): Yann Sommer; Ricardo Rodriguez, Manuel Akanji, Johan Djourou, Michael Lang; Granit Xhaka, Valon Behrami; Steven Zuber, Blerim Dzemaili, Xherdan Shaqiri; Josip Drmic
Switzerland substitutes: Francois Moubandje, Haris Seferovic, Breel Embolo, Roman Burki, Yvon Mvogo, Mario Gavranovic, Remo Freuler, Gelson Fernandes, Nico Elvedi, Denis Zakaria
Sweden head coach Jan Olof Andersson makes just one enforced change to the team that beat Mexico comprehensively in their final group stage game. Former Sunderland midfielder Sebastian Larsson misses out due to suspension, and is replaced by Svensson.
Vladimir Petkovic makes four changes, however, to the Switzerland side that drew 2-2 against Costa Rica in their last game. Captain Stephan Lichtsteiner and Fabian Schar are both suspended, meaning former Arsenal defender Djourou and Lang come into the side. Forward Gavranovic is replaced by Drmic, who makes his first start of the tournament, while Zuber - who scored the equaliser against Brazil - comes in for Embolo out wide.
Without star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Sweden were hardly expected to qualify for the competition, but they have surprised their critics and topped their group against the odds, and now face a golden chance to make the quarter-finals, having managed to avoid Brazil at this stage.
Both these sides will likely be licking their lips at the chance to progress to the last eight here. Sweden surprisingly topped Group F following Germany's implosion and Mexico's late collapse, while Switzerland ground their way to a solid second-placed finish behind tournament favourites Brazil. The winner here will face either Colombia or England in the next round.
It's been a tight first half so far, but both sides have spurned glorious chances to open the scoring. Berg had two great chances early on in the half, but sliced his first effort miles wide and had his second blocked by Akanji. Dzemaili then blazed over following a wonderful passing move, before Ekdal spooned over at the back post with the goal at his mercy!
Both sides will be looking to improve on their finishing ahead of the second half, but they are at least creating chances. Switzerland's passing out from the back looks likely to make or break their game, with Sweden looking to press them high and force errors. The Swedes may tire in the latter stages, however, if they are unable to take the advantage.
It's an outstanding result for Sweden, who continue to defy expectations despite being without Ibrahimovic, and their fortuitous, deflected goal was somewhat fitting considering their style of play. They ground out a result here against a Switzerland side who will be bitterly disappointed to go out to a side they will have felt they had the beating of. However, Shaqiri just couldn't work his magic, and Sweden arguably had the better chances, particularly in the first half. It finishes 1-0 to Sweden here, and they go on to the quarter finals in a World Cup that keeps on surprising!
And there it is! Sweden progress from this round of the competition for the first time since 1994, while Switzerland maintain an unfortunate run of being knocked out at this stage without scoring for the fourth time in succession (1994, 2006, 2014). They will now eagerly await the result of tonight's game to see who their opponents will be - England or Colombia.
