Hello, and welcome to our live coverage of this Champions League clash between Shakhtar Donetsk and Manchester City!
Now, let's take a look at the players that wil be involved today!
Manchester City (3-4-3): Ederson; John Stones, Nicolas Otamendi, Aymeric Laporte; Fernandinho, Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva, Benjamin Mendy; Riyad Mahrez, Gabriel Jesus, Raheem Sterling.
Manchester City subs: Bernardo Silva, Leroy Sane, Kyle Walker, Vincent Kompany, Arijanet Muric, Sergio Aguero, Phil Foden.
Considering the teams on display today, we should be in for plenty of goals as both sides rank in the top ten in touches in the box in the Champions League thus far!
The hosts will obviously be disappointed to find themselves two goals down at home, but they're honestly lucky to have not conceded more. Shakhtar's midfield is partially to blame as they have largely been bypassed, having held onto the ball for just 36.2 per cent of the match. The attack started looking better later in the half, and things would get very interesting if they could score the next goal, but it'll take some doing for them to even manage a draw today.
Manager Paulo Fonseca will surely disappointed in that performance. Save for about 10 minutes, they were played off the pitch by Manchester City and could not even mildly argue that they deserved a result today. Moraes did what he could up front but was not consistently provided with meaningful service and often seemed a lonely figure up front. While credit is certainly owed to the opposing attack, Shakhtar's defence has done the club no favours and will certainly be to blame if they fail to make it out of the group stages.
That was a comprehensive performance from Manchester City, as they easily swept Shakhtar aside. The most surprising thing from today's match was that City somehow only scored three goals despite being able to attack whenever and however they wanted. That having been said though, Aguero and Sane were able to rest for the entire match which is key as rotation is the best way for the Manchester side to contend for the title in every competition they're in this season.
That will do it for our live coverage of this Champions League match between Shakhtar Donetsk and Manchester City! Thanks for following along and we hope you will join us again soon!
Manchester City dominated the first half yet Pep Guardiola probably focused on the lack of finishing in the team talk rather than focusing on the many, many things that went well. Kevin De Bruyne has looked back and at his best while David Silva has been popping up rather far up the pitch, as evidenced by his three shots and five key passes. The defence deserve credit as well having held their opponents to a whopping zero shots on target. Barring anything too crazy, City should coast to a win here in the second half.
