Liverpool will be aiming to keep the pressure on Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table following their unbeaten start to the campaign. Everton, meanwhile, have enjoyed a bright start to this Premier League season and three points this afternoon could see them maintain their push for a top five spot.
The teams are out and kick-off will soon be upon us here at Anfield.
Somehow this Merseyside derby remains level at half time despite a number of glorious chances. Mane had a wonderful chance to give the hosts the lead after 13 minutes, but his volley sailed high over the bar. Gomes then had the visitors’ best chance after 21 minutes but failed to turn home his header from a matter of yards. Pickford was on hand to deny Shaqiri when one-on-one after 35 minutes to ensure that the score remained level at the break.
The hosts will look to continue in the same fashion in the second half. Shaqiri was integral to everything positive that Liverpool did in the opening half and he will be key as they look for the opening goal. Everton, meanwhile, looked a real threat through Bernard down the left wing and they could get some joy down the flanks in the upcoming half if Liverpool look to push on.
Liverpool travel to Burnley next time out as they look to maintain their unbeaten start to the season. Everton, meanwhile, host Newcastle at Goodison Park as they hope to bounce back from tonight’s defeat.
That brings an end to our coverage of the Premier League fixture between Liverpool and Everton at Anfield. Thank you very much for joining us. Goodbye!
