Hello and welcome to the live commentary of the LaLiga clash between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.
Real’s confidence will be sky-high at the moment following a huge 5-2 victory at Anfield during the week. A win over their local rivals will close to gap to Barcelona at the top of the table to just five points before the Catalan side play tomorrow. Carlo Ancelotti has relieved a lot of pressure off himself after winning five consecutive games in all competitions, including their success in the Club World Cup.
Atletico also come into this game in fine form as they are unbeaten in their last four games. Diego Simeone’s side will be looking to move into third place but also avenge their defeat in the Copa del Rey after Los Blancos dumped them out of the competition last month. Atletico have found their defensive class again in recent games, conceding just once in their last six league games. If anyone will be able to keep out the league’s top scorers, it will be them.
Real Madrid (4-3-3): Thibaut Courtois; Daniel Carvajal, Eder Militao, Antonio Rudiger, Nacho Fernandez; Federico Valverde, Toni Kroos, Dani Ceballos; Marco Asensio, Karim Benzema, Vinicius Junior.
SUBS: Andriy Lunin, Luis Lopez, Jesus Vallejo, Eden Hazard, Luka Modric, Eduardo Camavinga, Alvaro Odriozola, Lucas Vazquez, Aurelien Tchouameni, Mariano Diaz, Alvaro Rodriguez.
Atletico Madrid (4-4-2): Jan Oblak; Nahuel Molina, Stefan Savic, Mario Hermoso, Reinildo Mandava; Marcos Llorente, Pablo Barrios, Koke, Saul Niguez; Antoine Griezmann, Yannick Carassco.
SUBS: Ivo Grbic, Jose Gimenez, Memphis Depay, Angel Correa, Thomas Lemar, Matt Doherty, Alvaro Morata, Axel Witsel.
The players are making their way out of the tunnel and onto the pitch!
As the game goes on in the second half, Real will have to take more risks as they have more on the line in this game. If Los Blancos drop points again, retaining the title could be beyond them. Atletico will want the hosts to attack with more players so they can hit them on the counter-attack.
The draw for Real could be a devasting blow in their title hopes. If Barcelona win tomorrow, they will go 10 points clear at the top of LaLiga. Atletico remain in fourth but put up a valiant performance with just 10 men and a few injuries. Real face Barcelona in the Copa del Rey next before traveling to Betis in the league. Atletico host Sevilla in their next game.
